SiO 2-supported HClO 4 catalyzed synthesis of (Z)-thiazolylhydrazonoindolin-2-ones and their electrochemical properties. CHEMOSPHERE 2022; 309:136667. Abstract
In this paper, an environmentally benign silica-supported perchloric acid (HClO4-SiO2) catalyzed green FCDR strategy has been developed for the synthesis of (Z)-THIs (6) with high stereospecificity via an intramolecular hydrogen bond (IHB) directed approach, involving the reaction of methyl ketones (1), N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) (2), isatins (4) and thiosemicarbazide (5) in ethanol at reflux temperature for 45-60 min in one-pot. The reaction proceeds through the construction of C-Br (α-bromination), C-S & C-N (heterocyclization), and CN (condensation) bonds in one pot. The absolute structure of the compound (Z)-3-(2-(4-(4-bromophenyl)thiazol-2-yl)hydrazono)indolin-2-one (6e) has been confirmed by single-crystal XRD analysis. Further, the role of IHB on Z-configuration of the synthesized (Z)-THIs is proved by single-crystal XRD and 1H NMR studies. Wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, scalability, improved safety since the method circumvents the use of highly lachrymatric α-bromoketones as starting materials, high product yields (up to 98%), short reaction times, reusable solid Brønsted acid catalyst (HClO4-SiO2), and products that do not require column chromatography purification are all attractive features of this FCDR strategy. Electrochemical properties of THIs (6) are examined by cyclic voltammetry. The HOMO and LUMO energy level of THIs, 6a, 6c, 6d, 6j, 6o-6v, 6y, and 6aa are comparable with the reported ambipolar materials, and the HOMO levels of other THIs, 6b, 6e-6i, 6n, 6w, 6x, 6z and 6 ab-6ae are similar with the most commonly used hole transporting materials (HTMs).

Abstract
An efficient TfOH-catalyzed cascade C-H/N-H annulation of indole-2-carboxamides with benzoquinones has been developed for the synthesis of tetracyclic indolo[2,3-c]quinolinones. This reaction exhibits excellent chemo-/regioselectivity, achieving functionalization of the C-3 of indole and N-H of the amide moiety to form the new C-C and C-N bonds. Various expected products were synthesized from readily available starting materials in good to high yields with a wide substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. Among all synthetic products, 3d showed the most potent cytotoxicity toward the 4T1 cancer cell line with an IC50 value of 0.62 ± 0.05 μM. In vivo study demonstrated that 3d remarkably suppressed 4T1 xenograft tumor growth without body weight loss.

Abstract
The p-TsOH-catalyzed Diels–Alder reaction of 3-(indol-3-yl)maleimides with chalcone in toluene at 60 °C afforded two diastereoisomers of tetrahydropyrrolo[3,4-c]carbazoles, which can be dehydrogenated by DDQ oxidation in acetonitrile at room temperature to give the aromatized pyrrolo[3,4-c]carbazoles in high yields. On the other hand, the one-pot reaction of 3-(indol-3-yl)-1,3-diphenylpropan-1-ones with chalcones or benzylideneacetone in acetonitrile in the presence of p-TsOH and DDQ resulted in polyfunctionalized carbazoles in satisfactory yields. The reaction mechanism included the DDQ oxidative dehydrogenation of 3-(indol-3-yl)-1,3-diphenylpropan-1-ones to the corresponding 3-vinylindoles, their acid-catalyzed Diels–Alder reaction and sequential aromatization process.

Abstract
Functionalized spiro[carbazole-3,5'-pyrimidines] and spiro[carbazole-3,1'-cyclohexanes] were efficiently synthesized in satisfactory yields with high diastereoselectivity by CuSO4 catalyzed multicomponent reaction of indole-2-acetate, aromatic aldehyde and 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid or dimedone. The reaction was finished with sequential Diels-Alder reaction of both in situ generated indole-2,3-quinodimethane and a dienophile. Additionally, the initially formed spiro[carbazole-3,5'-pyrimidines] were converted to dehydrogenated spiro[carbazole-3,5'-pyrimidines] by DDQ oxidation. The initially formed spiro[carbazole-3,1'-cyclohexanes] were converted to δ-valerolactone-substituted carbazoles by a DDQ promoted Baeyer-Villiger oxidation process.

Abstract
p-TsOH catalyzed Diels-Alder reaction of 2-(1-alkylindol-3-yl)naphthalene-1,4-diones and 3-phenacylideneoxindoles showed fascinating diastereoselectivity. The reaction with the hydrated p-TsOH afforded trans-isomers of dihydrospiro[indoline-3,6'-naphtho[2,3-c]carbazoles] as major products. Alternatively, the reaction with anhydrous p-TsOH under a Dean and Stark apparatus predominately gave cis-isomer of dihydrospiro[indoline-3,6'-naphtho[2,3-c]carbazoles]. On the other hand, the similar p-TsOH catalyzed reaction of 2-(indol-3-yl)naphthalene-1,4-diones with 3-arylideneindolin-2-ones afforded cis/trans-isomers of dihydrospiro[indoline-3,6'-naphtho[2,3-c]carbazoles]. Additionally, the p-TsOH catalyzed reaction of 2-(indol-3-yl)naphthalene-1,4-diones with 2-arylidene-1,3-indanediones gave the expected spiro[indene-2,6'-naphtho[2,3-c]carbazoles] in satisfactory yields.

Abstract
The first example of metal-free-catalyzed multicomponent annulation reaction of [60]fullerene has been developed for concise and efficient construction of novel [60]fullerene-fused 1,2-tetrahydrocarbazoles. Using inexpensive and readily available I2 as a catalyst, [60]fullerene, ketones, and indoles undergo a formal [2+2+2] annulation process to conveniently assemble diverse 1,2-tetrahydrocarbazoles. Mechanistic studies indicate that this reaction proceeds through I2-promoted generation of a 3-vinylindole structure with the characteristics of a conjugated diene followed by cycloaddition to [60]fullerene.

Abstract
The acetic acid catalyzed three-component reaction of pyrrolidine, aromatic aldehydes, and 3-arylideneoxindolin-2-ones in refluxing toluene afforded functionalized 7'-arylidenespiro[indoline-3,1'-pyrrolizines] in good yields and with high diastereoselectivity. The similar three-component reaction with 2-arylidene-1,3-indanediones also gave 7'-arylidenespiro[indene-2,1'-pyrrolizines] in good yields. However, the reaction with 3-phenacylideneoxindoles resulted in a mixture of spiro[indoline-3,1'-pyrrolizines] and 7'-arylidene-substituted spirooxindoles in moderate yields. The reaction mechanism included generation of azomethine ylides, β-C-H functionalization of pyrrolidine, and sequential [3 + 2] cycloaddition. The obtained spirooxindole derivatives were investigated by in vitro evaluation against mouse colon cancer cells CT26 and human liver cancer cells HepG2 by MTT assay.

Abstract
An efficient and diastereoselective synthetic protocol for the construction of spiro[cyclohexane-1,3'-indolin]-3-en-2'-ones and spiro[cyclohexane-1,2'-inden]-3-ene-1',3'-diones was provided by HOAc-mediated domino reaction of pinacoles with typical dienophiles, such as 3-methyleneoxindolines and 2-arylideneindane-1,3-diones, in ionic liquid [Bmim]Br. This domino reaction involved the in situ generation of 1,3-dienes from acid-mediated dehydration of various pinacoles and the sequential Diels-Alder reaction.
