Abstract
New reactions of benzyl phosphine oxide/sulfide with oxalyl chloride are presented. The resulting reactive intermediates, acyl chloride-substituted chlorophosphonium ylides, are capable of undergoing esterification and Friedel-Crafts acylation reactions, ultimately yielding either methyl 2-(2-bromophenyl)-2-(diphenylphosphoryl)acetate or β-carbonyl-diarylphosphine oxide derivatives. Additionally, when an alkynyl group is contained in the acyl chloride-substituted chlorophosphonium ylide, intramolecular cyclization occurs, leading to the formation of a pair of trans- and cis-dichlorophosphonyl benzofulvene isomers. The generation process of acyl chloride-substituted chlorophosphonium ylide was carefully monitored by using 31P{1H} NMR spectroscopy, and a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed.

Abstract
Herein, a transition-metal-free phosphorylation of benzyl fluorides with P(O)-H compounds is disclosed. In the presence of tBuOK, various benzyl fluorides react with P(O)-H compounds to produce the corresponding benzyl phosphine oxides, phosphinates, and phosphonates in good to high yields. This base-promoted phosphorylation reaction offers a facile and general strategy for the construction of a C(sp3)-P bond.

Abstract
The simple synthetic procedure for preparation of α-aryl-α-diazophosphonates via a diazo transfer reaction is proposed. Benzylphosphonates reacted with tosyl azide (TsN3) in the presence of potassium tert-butoxide (KOtBu) to afford diazophosphonates in a yield up to 79%. The proposed method is general. The reaction uses easily available starting materials, tolerates various functional groups, and may be applied for multi-gram scale synthesis.

Abstract
Energy transfer plays a special role in photocatalysis by utilizing the potential energy of the excited state through indirect excitation, in which a photosensitizer determines the thermodynamic feasibility of the reaction. Bioinspired by the energy-transfer ability of natural product cercosporin, here we developed a green and highly efficient organic photosensitizer HiBRCP (hexaisobutyryl reduced cercosporin) through structural modification of cercosporin. After structural manipulation, its triplet energy was greatly improved, and then, it could markedly promote the efficient geometrical isomerization of alkenes from the E-isomer to the Z-isomer. Moreover, it was also effective for energy-transfer-mediated organometallic catalysis, which allowed realization of the cross-coupling of aryl bromides and carboxylic acids through efficient energy transfer from HiBRCP to nickel complexes. Thus, the study on the relationship between structural manipulation and their photophysical properties provided guidance for further modification of cercosporin, which could be applied to more meaningful and challenging energy-transfer reactions.

Abstract
Here, we report straightforward and selective synthetic procedures for mono- and diesterification of phosphonic acids. A series of alkoxy group donors were studied and triethyl orthoacetate was found to be the best reagent as well as a solvent for the performed transformations. An important temperature effect on the reaction course was discovered. Depending on the reaction temperature, mono- or diethyl esters of phosphonic acid were obtained exclusively with decent yields. The substrate scope of the proposed methodology was verified on aromatic as well as aliphatic phosphonic acids. The designed method can be successfully applied for small- and large-scale experiments without significant loss of selectivity or reaction yield. Several devoted experiments were performed to give insight into the reaction mechanism. At 30 °C, monoesters are formed via an intermediate (1,1-diethoxyethyl ester of phosphonic acid). At higher temperatures, similar intermediate forms give diesters or stable and detectable pyrophosphonates which were also consumed to give diesters. 31P NMR spectroscopy was used to assign the structure of pyrophosphonate as well as to monitor the reaction course. No need for additional reagents and good accessibility and straightforward purification are the important aspects of the developed protocols.

Abstract
AbstractThe Sonogashira coupling of 1,3,6,8-tetrabromopyrene with 4-[(–)-β-citronellyloxy]phenylethyne was employed to synthesize 1,3,6,8-tetra[4-(citronellyloxy)phenylethynyl]pyrene. The pyrene derivative catalyzed the reductive desulfonylation of ethenyl sulfones via visible-light irradiation (514 nm green light-emitting diodes) in the presence of i-Pr2NEt. The β-citronellyloxy groups provided the sufficient solubility to the highly π-expanded pyrene catalyst, and their polar oxygen functionalities enabled the easy separation of the catalyst from the products via column chromatography.

Abstract
The development of new catalytic processes based on abundantly available starting materials by cheap metals is always a fascinating task and marks an important transition in the chemical industry. Herein, a nickel-catalyzed acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling of alcohols with nitriles followed by decyanation of nitriles to access diversely substituted olefins is reported. This unprecedented C═C bond-forming methodology takes place in a tandem manner with the formation of formamide as a sole byproduct. The significant advantages of this strategy are the low-cost nickel catalyst, good functional group compatibility (ether, thioether, halo, cyano, ester, amino, N/O/S heterocycles; 43 examples), synthetic convenience, and high reaction selectivity and efficiency.

Abstract
The two-step acidic hydrolysis of α-hydroxybenzylphosphonates and a few related derivatives was monitored in order to determine the kinetics and to map the reactivity of the differently substituted phosphonates in hydrolysis. Electron-withdrawing substituents increased the rate, while electron-releasing ones slowed down the reaction. Both hydrolysis steps were characterized by pseudo-first-order rate constants. The fission of the second P-O-C bond was found to be the rate-determining step.

Abstract
A new type of three-component reaction was developed consisting of aldehydes, electron-rich (hetero)arenes, and trialkyl phosphite, which provided facile access to a wide range of diarylmethylphosphonates under mild reaction conditions. Simple one- or two-step synthetic manipulation of the resulting compounds enabled us to reach several polycyclic (hetero)aromatic systems efficiently.
