Abstract
A green process for the direct C(sp2)-H decarboxylative alkylsulfonylation of enamides under metal- and additive-free conditions is reported. This reaction employs phenyliodine(III) dicarboxylates as the alkyl radical precursors and DABCO·(SO2)2 as the sulfur dioxide surrogate. Diverse (E)-alkylsulfonyl enamides are generated in moderate to good yields with high stereoselectivity under extremely mild conditions via a radical process. A broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance are presented. Moreover, a cascade alkylsulfonylation/cyclization reaction of N-methacryloyl enamides occurs smoothly, giving rise to various alkylsulfonylated pyrrolidones.

Abstract
A benign electrochemical method to access 6-methylphenanthridines from 2-isocyanobiaryls using N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as a methyl source is reported. The protocol operates at ambient temperature without the need for harmful methylating reagents. Mechanistic studies suggested that DMF delivered a methylene synthon, followed by reduction at the cathode and tautomerization. The method offers environmental benefits by avoiding metal-based reagents and harsh conditions.

Abstract
This study reports a metal- and light-free decarboxylative C-H alkylation of heteroarenes at room temperature. The reaction generates various primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl radicals and functionalizes seven different privileged scaffolds widely present in bioactive molecules. During this process, one equivalent of hypervalent iodine(III) carboxylates (HICs) plays dual roles as an alkyl radical precursor and an oxidant.

Abstract
A tetramethylammonium iodide (TBAI)-mediated cyclization and methylsulfonylation of propargylic amides enabled by dimethyl sulfite as a SO2 surrogate and methyl source have been developed. The transition metal-free and oxidant-free reaction provides a practical and efficient approach for the selective synthesis of methylsulfonyl oxazoles in moderate to excellent yields with good functional group compatibility.

Abstract
Ni-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions are becoming efficient routes to access a variety of functionalized arenes, yet the mechanisms of these catalytic C-C coupling reactions are not well understood. Here, we report the catalytic and stoichiometric arylation reactions of a nickel(II) metallacycle. Treatment of this species with silver(I)-aryl complexes results in facile arylation, consistent with a redox transmetalation step. Additionally, treatment with electrophilic coupling partners generates C-C and C-S bonds. We anticipate that this redox transmetalation step may be relevant to other coupling reactions that employ silver salts as additives.

Abstract
A direct one-pot alkylation-aminoxidation of styrene derivatives was achieved using in situ-generated alkyl and N-oxyl radicals. The corresponding O-alkylated hydroxylamine derivatives were obtained in moderate to good yields. The reaction features the generation of the alkyl radicals from phenyliodine(III) dicarboxylates via an organocatalytic process, the use of phenyliodine(III) dicarboxylates as the source of the alkyl radicals and oxidants for the generation of N-oxyl radicals, and the first generation of the β-enaminyl radicals via a HAT process and their use as single-electron donors.

Abstract
In the field of medicinal chemistry, the precise installation of a trideuteromethyl group is gaining ever-increasing attention. Site-selective incorporation of the deuterated "magic methyl" group can provide profound pharmacological benefits and can be considered an important tool for drug optimization and development. This review provides a structured overview, according to trideuteromethylation reagent, of currently established methods for site-selective trideuteromethylation of carbon atoms. In addition to CD3 , the selective introduction of CD2 H and CDH2 groups is also considered. For all methods, the corresponding mechanism and scope are discussed whenever reported. As such, this review can be a starting point for synthetic chemists to further advance trideuteromethylation methodologies. At the same time, this review aims to be a guide for medicinal chemists, offering them the available C-CD3 formation strategies for the preparation of new or modified drugs.

Abstract
Phenanthridine and its derivatives are important structural motifs that exist in natural products, biologically active compounds, and functional materials. Here, we report a mild, one-pot synthesis of 6-arylphenanthridine derivatives by a sequential cascade Pictet-Spengler-dehydrogenative aromatization reaction mediated by oxovanadium(V) complexes under aerobic conditions. The reaction of 2-(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)aniline with a range of commercially available aryl aldehydes provided the desired phenanthridine derivatives in up to 96% yield. The ability of vanadium(V) complexes to function as efficient redox and Lewis acid catalysts enables the sequential reaction to occur under mild conditions.

Abstract
An acid, transition-metal, and chromatography-free radical nitration/cyclisation of 2-alkynylthioanisoles or -selenoanisoles has been developed. This is the first example of the use of highly unstable 2-nitrovinyl radicals for C–S bond formation. This facile route efficiently produces 3-nitrobenzothiophenes and benzoselenophenes, which are difficult to access via classical methods. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to probe the reaction mechanism. The resulting products were tested for their in vitro anti-tuberculosis activity, and compounds 2d and 2l showed significant activities against sensitive and drug-resistant strains. This is the first example of highly unstable 2-nitrovinyl radicals for C–S bond formation. The facile route efficiently functionalizes 3-nitrobenzothiophenes and benzoselenophenes, which are difficult to obtain by classical methods.![]()

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed three-component reaction of acrylamides, sulfur dioxide and phenyliodine(iii) dicarboxylates is developed. The conversion using phenyliodine dicarboxylates as alkyl radical precursors provides diverse (Z)-β-alkenyl alkylsulfones.

Abstract
Background:
α-Aryl substituted nitroalkanes are important synthetic intermediates
for the preparation of pharmaceutical molecules, natural products, and functional
materials. Due to their scare existence in Nature, synthesis of these compounds has attracted
the attention of synthetic and medicinal chemists, rendering α-arylation of nitroalkanes
of an important research topic. This article summarizes the important advances of α-
arylation of nitroalkanes since 1963.
Results:
After a brief introduction of the synthetic application and the reactions of nitroalkanes,
this article reviewed the synthetic methods for the α-arylated aliphatic nitro compound.
The amount of research on α-arylation of nitroalkanes using various arylation reagents
and the discovery of elegant synthetic approaches towards such skeleton have been
discussed. This review described these advances in two sections. One is the arylation of non-activated nitroalkanes,
with an emphasis on the application of diverse arylation reagents; the other focuses on the arylation of
activated nitroalkanes, including dinitroalkanes, trinitroalkanes, α-nitrosulfones, α-nitroesters, α-nitrotoluenes,
and α-nitroketones. The synthetic application of these methods has also been presented in some cases.
Conclusion:
In this review, we described the progress of α-arylation of nitroalkanes. Although the immense
amount of research on α-arylation of aliphatic nitro compounds has been achieved, many potential issues still
need to be addressed, especially the asymmetric transformation and its wide application in organic synthesis.
