Abstract
The development of innovative triplet materials plays a significant role in various applications. Although effective tuning of triplet formation by intersystem crossing (ISC) has been well established in solution, the modulation of ISC processes in the solid state remains a challenge due to the presence of other exciton decay channels through intermolecular interactions. The cyclic structure of cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) offers a unique platform to tune the intermolecular packing, which leads to controllable exciton dynamics in the solid state. Herein, by integrating an electron deficient coronene diimide (CDI) unit into the CPP framework, a donor-acceptor type of conjugated macrocycle (CDI-CPP) featuring intramolecular charge-transfer (CT) interaction was designed and synthesized. Effective intermolecular CT interaction resulting from a slipped herringbone packing was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Transient spectroscopy studies showed that CDI-CPP undergoes ISC in both solution and the film state, with triplet generation time constants of 4.5 ns and 238 ps, respectively. The rapid triplet formation through ISC in the film state can be ascribed to the cooperation between intra- and intermolecular charge-transfer interactions. Our results highlight that intermolecular CT interaction has a pronounced effect on the ISC process in the solid state, and shed light on the use of the characteristic structure of CPPs to manipulate intermolecular CT interactions.

Abstract
Coronene diimide functionalized with 4-(2-nitrovinyl)phenyl (CDI 2) serves as a precursor for generating a stable radical anion (CDI 2˙-) using H2S as a reductant in 40% H2O-THF solution in the NIR region with stability up to >50 min. The optical, cyclic voltammetry (CV), current-voltage (I-V) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies revealed the formation of the radical anion (CDI 2˙-). The addition of a strong oxidant NOBF4 quenches the radical anion (CDI 2˙-). The aggregation studies revealed that CDI 2 exists in the aggregated state in 40% H2O-THF solution, which points to the possibility of stabilization of the radical anion in the aggregates. The radical anion (CDI 2˙-) was explored for the detection of 58.27 pM H2O2 in aqueous medium with the naked eye colour change from green to light yellow. The biochemical assay involving the radical anion (CDI 2˙-) and glucose oxidase (GOx) enzyme can be used for the detection of 16 pM (UV-vis method) and 82.4 pM (fluorescence method) glucose. The naked eye colour change from green to light yellow (daylight) and a colorless non-fluorescent solution to a green fluorescent solution (365 nm) allow the detection of 1 nM glucose.

Abstract
Substituted tetraazacoronene fluorophores have been obtained selectively by double Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling of symmetrically substituted 1,2-bis(pinacolatoboryl)alkenes with a bay-substituted octaazaperopyrenedioxide (OAPPDO). Subsequent Scholl reaction of the dimethoxyphenylated derivative allowed further π-extension of the azaperylene core, yielding a highly redox-active bis(phenanthro)tetraazacoronene.

Abstract
Incorporating two pyrrole subunits at the bay positions of perylene-diimide has been a long-pursued goal since 2009, but it has not been achieved due to high strain. Herein, via one step Buchwald-Hartwig reaction, PDI-2N was successfully generated with a bowl depth of 1.52 Å. Though with electron-rich pyrrole embedding, PDI-2N's radical anion and dianion were facilely prepared and were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Moreover, PDI-2N crystallized in different manners under distinct conditions, and it formed tubular crystals with infinite two-directional columnar stacking under DMF conditions. This finding develops a dream bowl-shaped PDI derivative that holds great promise in organoelectronics.

Abstract
The amplification of chiral absorbance and emission is a primary figure of merit for the design of chiral chromophores. However, for dyes to be practically relevant in chiroptical applications, they must also absorb and/or emit chiral light over broad wavelength ranges. We investigate the interplay between molecular symmetry and broad-band chiral absorbance in a series of [6]helicenes. We find that an asymmetric [6]helicene containing two distinct chromophores absorbs chiral light across a much wider wavelength range than the symmetric [6]helicenes investigated here. Chemically reducing the helicenes shifts the absorption edge of the ECD spectra into the near-infrared wavelength range while preserving broad chiral absorption, producing a [6]helicene that absorbs a single handedness of light across the entire visible wavelength range.

Abstract
The incorporation of nonhexagonal rings into graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) is an effective strategy for engineering localized electronic states, bandgaps, and magnetic properties. Here, we demonstrate the successful synthesis of nanoribbons having four-membered ring (cyclobutadienoid) linkages by using an on-surface synthesis approach involving direct contact transfer of coronene-type precursors followed by thermally assisted [2 + 2] cycloaddition. The resulting coronene-cyclobutadienoid nanoribbons feature a narrow 600-meV bandgap and novel electronic frontier states that can be interpreted as linear chains of effective px and py pseudo-atomic orbitals. We show that these states give rise to exceptional physical properties, such as a rigid indirect energy gap. This provides a previously unexplored strategy for constructing narrow gap GNRs via modification of precursor molecules whose function is to modulate the coupling between adjacent four-membered ring states.

Abstract
PAHs (polycyclic aromatics hydrocarbons), the compound group that contains perylene and its derivatives, including functionalized ones, have attracted a great deal of interest in many fields of science and modern technology. This review presents all of the research devoted to modifications of PAHs that are realized via the Diels–Alder (DA) cycloaddition of various dienophiles to the bay regions of PAHs, leading to the π-extension of the starting molecule. This type of annulative π-extension (APEX) strategy has emerged as a powerful and efficient synthetic method for the construction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their functionalized derivatives, nanographenes, and π-extended fused heteroarenes. Then, [4 + 2] cycloadditions of ethylenic dienophiles, -N=N-, i.e., diazo-dienophiles and acetylenic dienophiles, are presented. This subject is discussed from the organic synthesis point of view but supported by theoretical calculations. The possible applications of DA cycloaddition to PAH bay regions in various science and technology areas, and the prospects for the development of this synthetic method, are also discussed.

Abstract
A novel unsymmetrical five- and six-membered sulfur-annulated heterocyclic perylene diimides (PDI) derivative was obtained by a one-pot and catalyst-free synthesis in a high yield. The unsymmetrical PDI exhibits a noteworthy bathochromic shift absorption of up to 700 nm and a low-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level of -3.99 eV. The compound owns a complete planar structure and a high electron mobility of 4.8 × 10-3 cm2 V-1 s-1 in solution-processable top-gate/bottom-contact organic field-effect transistor device.
