Abstract
We investigate intramolecular singlet fission (iSF) of spiro-linked azaacene heterodimers by time-resolved spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Combining two different azaacenes through a nonconjugated linker using condensation chemistry furnishes azaacene heterodimers. Compared to their homodimers, iSF quantum yields are improved at an extended absorption range. The driving force of iSF, the energy difference ΔEiSF between the S1 state and the correlated triplet pair 1(TT), is tuned by the nature of the heterodimers. iSF is exothermic in all of the herein studied molecules. The overall quantum yield for triplet exciton formation reaches approximately 174%. This novel concept exploits large energy differences between singlet electronic states in combination with spatially fixed chromophores, which achieves efficient heterogeneous iSF, if the through-space interaction between the chromophores is minimal.

Abstract
Bay-annulated indigo (BAI) is a new potential SF-active building block, which has aroused great interest in the design of highly stable singlet fission materials. However, singlet fission of unfunctionalized BAI is inactive due to the inappropriate energy levels. Herein, we seek to develop a new design strategy by introducing the charge transfer interaction to tune the exciton dynamics of BAI derivatives. A new donor-acceptor molecule (TPA-2BAI) and two control molecules (TPA-BAI and 2TPA-BAI) were designed and synthesized to unravel the veil of CT states in tuning the excited-state dynamics of BAI derivatives. Transient absorption spectroscopy studies show that CT states are generated immediately following the excitation. However, the low-lying CT states induced by strong donor-acceptor interactions result in them acting as trap states and inhibiting the SF process. These results show that the low-lying CT state is detrimental to SF and provide insight into the design of CT-mediated BAI-based SF materials.

Abstract
Singlet fission is a process by which an organic semiconductor is able to generate two triplet excitons from a single photon. If charges from the triplets can be successfully harvested without heavy losses in energy, then this process can enable a single-junction solar cell to surpass the Shockley-Queisser limit. While singlet fission processes are commonly observed in several materials, harvesting the resulting triplets is difficult and has been demonstrated with only a few transport materials. Here, transient absorption spectroscopy is used to investigate singlet fission and carrier transfer processes at the AgBiS2 /pentacene (AgBiS2 /Pc) heterojunction. The successful transfer of triplets from pentacene to AgBiS2 and the transfer of holes from AgBiS2 to pentacene is observed. Further singlet fission in pentacene by modifying the crystallinity of the pentacene layer and have fabricated the first singlet fission AgBiS2 /Pc solar cell is enhanced. Singlet fission devices exhibit higher external quantum efficiency compared with the control devices, and thus demonstrating the significant contribution of charges from the singlet fission process.

Abstract
Understanding the structure-property relationships in organic semiconductors is crucial for controlling their photophysical properties and developing new optoelectronic materials. Quadrupolar molecules, donor-acceptor-donor (DAD), have attracted extensive attention in various optoelectronic applications. However, the systematic studies on the differences on photophysical properties between DAD and simple donor-acceptor (DA) chromophores are rarely reported. Herein we present a comparative study on the excited state dynamics of DA and DAD fluorescence systems using theoretical calculation and transient absorption spectroscopy. Results show that DA and DAD molecules exhibit similar excited state dynamics, which are attributed to the distinctive excited-state symmetry breaking (ESSB) phenomenon observed in a DAD system. The strong photoluminescence (PL) and ultrafast charge separation (CS) from an ESSB-induced partial charge transfer (CT) state were clearly detected in different solvent environments. These results not only offer insight into the excited state dynamics of the DAD fluorescence system but also provide some basic guidelines for designing new optoelectronic materials.

Abstract
Through the combination of transient spectroscopy and theoretical simulations, an accelerated singlet fission (SF) process was evidently observed in the strongly coupled H-type-like aggregation thin films of a dipyrrolonaphthyridinedione skeleton. Results elucidate that in this H-type-like aggregation, the substantially stabilized charge transfer (CT) state is close in energy with singlet and excimer states, resulting in a CT/excimer mixed state, which could drive excited-state population escaping from excimer trap and promote an ultrafast and highly efficient SF process. Our results not only enrich the limited capacity of SF materials but also contribute to an in-depth understanding of SF dynamics in H-type aggregation, which is of fundamental importance for designing new SF sensitizers and implementing practical SF applications.

Abstract
Separation of triplet excitons produced by singlet fission is crucial for efficient application of singlet fission materials. While earlier works explored the first step of singlet fission, the formation of the correlated triplet pair state, the focus of recent studies has been on understanding the second step of singlet fission, the formation of independent triplets from the correlated pair state. We present the synthesis and excited-state dynamics of meta- and para-bis(ethynyltetracenyl)benzene dimers that are analogues to the ortho-bis(ethynyltetracenyl)benzene dimer reported by our groups previously. A comparison of the excited-state properties of these dimers allows us to investigate the effects of electronic conjugation and coupling on singlet fission between the ethynyltetracene units within a dimer. In the para isomer, in which the two chromophores are conjugated, the singlet exciton yields the correlated triplet pair state, from which the triplet excitons can decouple via molecular rotations. In contrast, the meta isomer in which the two chromophores are cross-coupled predominantly relaxes via radiative decay. We also report the synthesis and excited-state dynamics of two para dimers with different bridging units joining the ethynyltetracenes. The rate of singlet fission is found to be faster in the dimer with the bridging unit that has orbitals closer in energy to that of the ethynyltetracene chromophores.

Abstract
Three isomers were prepared by covalently grafting carbazole (Cz) onto spiro[fluorene-9,9'-xanthene] (SFX) at different positions. Due to the complicated and variable roles of molecular segments, an evolution of the corresponding molecular packing mode was realized, accompanied by the change of nanocrystal morphology and photoluminescence properties.
