Abstract
In α-diimine nickel catalyst-mediated ethylene polymerization, adjusting catalytic parameters such as steric and electronic factors, as well as spectator ligands, offers an intriguing approach for tailoring the thermal and physical properties of the resulting products. This study explores two sets of C2-symmetric α-diimine nickel complexes-nickel bromide and nickel chloride-where ortho-steric and electronic substituents, as well as nickel halide, were varied to regulate simultaneously chain walking, chain transfer, and the properties of the polymers produced. These complexes were activated in situ with Et2AlCl, resulting in exceptionally high catalytic activities (in the level of 106-107 g (PE) mol-1 (Ni) h-1) under all reaction conditions. Nickel bromide complexes, with higher ortho-steric hindrance, exhibited superior catalytic activity compared to their less hindered counterparts, whereas the reverse was observed for complexes containing chloride. Increased steric hindrance in both sets of complexes facilitated higher polymer molecular weights and promoted chain walking reactions at lower reaction temperature (40 °C), while the effect became less pronounced at higher temperature (100 °C). However, the electron-withdrawing effect of ortho-substituents hindered the rate of monomer insertion, chain propagation, and chain walking reactions, leading to the synthesis of semi-crystalline polyethylene with an exceptionally high melt temperature of 134.6 °C and a high crystallinity of up to 31.9%. Most importantly, nickel bromide complexes demonstrated significantly higher activity compared to their chloride counterparts, while the latter yielded polymers with higher molecular weights and increased melt temperatures. These high molecular weights, coupled with controlled branching degrees, resulted in polyethylenes with excellent tensile strength (up to 13.9 MPa) and excellent elastic properties (up to 81%), making them suitable for a broad range of applications.

Abstract
Inspired by the favorable impact of heteroatom-containing groups in phenoxy-imine titanium and late transition metal catalysts, a series of novel pyridylamido hafnium catalysts bearing ─OMe (Cat-OMe), ─CF3 (Cat-CF3), and ─C6F5 (Cat-C6F5) substituents are designed and synthesized. Together with the established hafnium catalysts Cat-H and Cat-iPr by Dow/Symyx, these catalysts are applied in the polymerization of α-olefins, including 1-hexene, 1-octene, and 4M1P, as well as in the copolymerization of these α-olefins with a specifically designed polar monomer. The enhancement of polymer molecular weight derived from catalyst modification and the incorporation of polar monomers is discussed in detail. Notably, the new catalysts are all highly active for α-olefins polymerization, with catalyst Cat-CF3 producing isotactic polymers with the highest molecular weight (Mw = 1649 kg mol-1); in copolymerization with polar monomers, catalyst Cat-OMe yields isotactic copolymer with the highest molecular weight (Mw = 2990 kg mol-1). Interestingly, catalyst Cat-C6F5 bearing a ─C6F5 group in the N-aryl moiety gives rise to poly(α-olefin) with reduced stereoselectivity. The findings of this study underscore the potential of heteroatom-containing groups in the development of early transition metal catalysts and the synthesis of polymer with novel structures.

Abstract
The performance of ethylene/1-octene copolymer primarily depends on the microstructure of the polymer chain. This study employed a new method to control the inter-distribution of hexyl chain branches directly on the backbone of the ethylene/1-octene copolymer. Three ethylene/1-octene copolymers with different inter-distributions of hexyl chain branches were synthesized using [Me2Si(C5Me4) (NtBu)] TiCl2 (Ti-CGC) by different feeding sequences in the semi-continuous polymerization reaction system. The three copolymers were named according to the feeding sequence of the materials: ethylene/1-octene/Ti-CGC (EOC), 1-octene/Ti-CGC/ethylene (OCE), and ethylene/Ti-CGC/1-octene (ECO), respectively. The structure and properties of the copolymers were characterized using HT-GPC, 13C-NMR, DSC, WAXD, DMA, MI, and Uniaxial Tension Test. The results showed that the feeding sequence greatly affected the comonomer distribution of the molecular chains, molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and chemical composition of the copolymers, consequently influencing their thermal performance and mechanical properties. Thus, it is probable that one could obtain an ethylene/1-octene copolymer with designed properties by controlling the feeding sequence during the ethylene/1-octene semi-continuous copolymerization process.

Abstract
Recently, polyolefin thermoplastic elastomers can be obtained directly using ethylene as a single feedstock via α-diimine nickel-catalyzed ethylene chain walking polymerization. Here, a new range of bulky acenaphthene-based α-diimine nickel complexes with hybrid o-phenyl and -diarylmethyl anilines were constructed and applied to ethylene polymerization. All the nickel complexes under the activation of excess Et2AlCl exhibited good activity (level of 106 g mol-1 h-1) and produced polyethylene with high molecular weight (75.6-352.4 kg/mol) as well as proper branching densities (55-77/1000C). All the branched polyethylenes obtained exhibited high strain (704-1097%) and moderate to high stress (7-25 MPa) at break values. Most interestingly, the polyethylene produced by the methoxy-substituted nickel complex exhibited significantly lower molecular weights and branching densities, as well as significantly poorer strain recovery values (48% vs. 78-80%) than those by the other two complexes under the same conditions.

Abstract
Herein, we report copolymerizations of ethylene (E) and ortho-/meta-/para-fluorostyrenes (SF =oFS/mFS/pFS) by using quinolyl methylene fluorenyl scandium complex (Flu-CH2 -Qu)Sc(CH2 SiMe3 )2 . The copolymerizations proceed in a controlled fashion to afford copolymers composed of "soft" ethylene-fluorostyurene (E-SF ) random segments (Tg =-22.2-5.1 °C) and "hard" crystalline ethylene-ethylene (E-E) segments (Tm =42.3-130.2 °C). The copolymers behave like thermoplastic elastomers at room temperature by showing high stress values up to 39.5 MPa under elongation-at-break above 774 % with elastic recovery over 75 %. The excellent mechanical properties are mainly attributed to the microphase separation of the nanoscale crystalline E-E domain from the amorphous E-SF copolymer matrix proved by AFM, WAXD and SAXS. The mechanism investigation by the density functional theory (DFT) simulation reveals that the steric bulky and electron-withdrawing ligand of the catalytic precursor prefers E propagation to generate long E-E segments, while the incorporation of SF is thermodynamic control.

Abstract
This work describes the first example of semicrystalline poly(thiocarbonate)s from carbon disulfide (CS2 ) and ethylene oxide (EO), two mass producible low-cost monomers. Lewis acid/base pairs (LPs) exhibit high activity (EO conversion up to >99%, 8 h) in catalyzing the copolymerization under low Lewis pair/monomer ratio of 1:1500. Oxygen-sulfur exchange reaction (O-S ER) during the copolymerization of CS2 and EO, the generation and mutual copolymerization with COS, CO2 , and episulfide, is harnessed to introduce crystallizable segments [SC(O)O and SC(S)S] in the copolymer. The type of Lewis base is found to have a great impact on the chain microstructure and the crystalline properties. The formed copolymers with melting point from 117.7 to 245.3 °C are obtained. The maximum crystallinity is estimated to be 78% based on the powder wide-angle X-ray diffraction pattern. This work provides a general method to prepare semicrystalline sulfur-containing polymers.

Abstract
The compatibilization of polyethylene (PE) and isotactic polypropylene (iPP) blends is of particular interest due to the challenges associated with recycling these plastics from mixed waste streams. Polyethylene-graft-iPP copolymers (PE-g-iPP) were prepared using a grafting-through strategy by copolymerization of ethylene with allyl-terminated iPP macromonomers in the presence of a hafnium pyridylamido catalyst. Graft copolymers with a variety of graft lengths (Mn = 6-28 kg/mol), graft numbers, and graft spacings were prepared. These graft copolymers were melt-blended with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and iPP (iPP/HDPE = 30/70 w/w), and the blend properties were evaluated by tensile testing. The blends showed enhanced tensile strength at 5 and 1 wt % loading, with higher tensile strength observed for larger block numbers and graft lengths. These results indicate that graft copolymers are efficient compatibilizers for blends of HDPE and iPP.

Abstract
In this contribution, we explored the copolymerization of propylene with higher α-olefins, including 1-octene (C8) 1-dodecene (C12), 1-hexadecene (C16) and 1-eicosene (C20), by using a dimethyl pyridylamidohafnium catalyst. A series of copolymers with varied comonomer incorporation, high molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution were obtained at mild conditions. The effects of the insertion of the comonomers on the microstructure, thermal and final mechanical properties were systemically studied by 13C NMR, wide-angle X-ray scattering, DSC and tensile test. Excellent mechanical performances were achieved by tuning the incorporation and chain length of the higher α-olefins. When the comonomer content reached above 12 mol.%, polypropylene-based elastomers were obtained with high ductility. A combination of excellent elastic recovery and flexibility was achieved for the P/C16 copolymers with about 20 mol.% monomer incorporation. The monomer incorporation and side chain length played a crucial role in determining the mechanical property of the outstanding polypropylene-based elastomers.

Abstract
The physical properties and end applications of polyolefin materials are defined by their chain architectures and topologies. These properties can, in part, be controlled by a judicious choice of the steric and electronic properties of the catalyst and, in particular, the ligand framework. One major achievement in this field is the discovery of thermoplastic polyolefin elastomers that combine the processing and recyclable characteristics of thermoplastics with the flexibility and ductility of elastomers. These polymers are highly sought after as alternative materials to thermoset elastomers. In this perspective, works in the literature related to the development of nickel catalysts as well as their implementations for the synthesis of polyolefin elastomers are summarized in detail. Throughout the perspective, attention has been focused on developing the relationship between catalyst structure and performance, on strategies for the synthesis of polyolefin elastomer using nickel catalysts, on properties of the resultant polyolefin, such as degree of branching and crystallinity, as well as on their effects on mechanical properties. The future perspective regarding the most recent developments in single-step production of polyethylene elastomers will also be presented.

Abstract
Triblock copolymers of polystyrene (PS) and a polyolefin (PO), e.g., PS-block-poly(ethylene-co-1-butene)-block-PS (SEBS), are attractive materials for use as thermoplastic elastomers and are produced commercially by a two-step process that involves the costly hydrogenation of PS-block-polybutadiene-block-PS. We herein report a one-pot strategy for attaching PS chains to both ends of PO chains to construct PS-block-PO-block-PS directly from olefin and styrene monomers. Dialkylzinc compound containing styrene moieties ((CH₂=CHC₆H₄CH₂CH₂)₂Zn) was prepared, from which poly(ethylene-co-propylene) chains were grown via "coordinative chain transfer polymerization" using the pyridylaminohafnium catalyst to afford di-end functional PO chains functionalized with styrene and Zn moieties. Subsequently, PS chains were attached at both ends of the PO chains by introduction of styrene monomers in addition to the anionic initiator Me₃SiCH₂Li·(pmdeta) (pmdeta = pentamethyldiethylenetriamine). We found that the fraction of the extracted PS homopolymer was low (~20%) and that molecular weights were evidently increased after the styrene polymerization (ΔMn = 27⁻54 kDa). Transmission electron microscopy showed spherical and wormlike PS domains measuring several tens of nm segregated within the PO matrix. Optimal tensile properties were observed for the sample containing a propylene mole fraction of 0.25 and a styrene content of 33%. Finally, in the cyclic tensile test, the prepared copolymers exhibited thermoplastic elastomeric properties with no breakage up over 10 cycles, which is comparable to the behavior of commercial-grade SEBS.

Abstract
It is challenging to develop healable elastomers with combined high mechanical strength and good elasticity. Herein, a simple strategy to develop high-performance elastomers that integrate high mechanical strength, enormous stretchability, good resilience, and healability is reported. Through simply complexing poly(acrylic acid) and poly(ethylene oxide) based on hydrogen-bonding interactions, transparent composite materials that perform as elastomers are generated. The as-prepared elastomers exhibit mechanical strength (true strength at break) and toughness (fracture energy) as high as 61 MPa and 22.9 kJ/m2, respectively, and they can be stretched to >35 times their initial length and are able to return to their original dimensions following the removal of stress. Further, the elastomers are capable of healing from physical cuts/damages in a humid environment because of reformation of the reversible hydrogen bonds between the polymer components. The high mechanical strength of the elastomers is ascribed to the high degree of polymer chain entanglements and multiple hydrogen-bonding interactions in the composites. The reversible hydrogen bonds, which act as cross-linkages, facilitate the unfolding and sliding of the polymer chains in the composites, thereby endowing the elastomers with good elasticity and healability. Furthermore, flexible conductors with water-enabled healability were developed by drop-casting Ag nanowires on top of the elastomers.

Abstract
We report here a series of novel spontaneously healable thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with a combination of improved mechanical and good autonomic self-healing performances. Hard-soft diblock and hard-soft-hard triblock copolymers with poly[exo-1,4,4a,9,9a,10-hexahydro-9,10(1',2')-benzeno-l,4-methanoanthracene] (PHBM) as the hard block and secondary amide group containing norbornene derivative polymer as the soft block were synthesized via living ring-opening metathesis copolymerization by use of Grubbs third-generation catalyst through sequential monomer addition. The microstructure, mechanical, self-healing, and surface morphologies of the block copolymers were thoroughly studied. Both excellent mechanical performance and self-healing capability were achieved for the block copolymers because of the interplayed physical cross-link of hard block and dynamic interaction formed by soft block in the self-assembled network. Under an optimized hard block (PHBM) weight ratio of 5%, a significant recovery of tensile strength (up to 100%) and strain at break (ca. 85%) was achieved at ambient temperature without any treatment even after complete rupture. Moreover, the simple reaction operations and well-designed monomers offer versatility in tuning the architectures and properties of the resulting block copolymers.
