Abstract
The self-assembled structure has a significant impact on the performance of ion conductors. We prepared a new type of electrolyte with self-assembled structures from an azobenzene-based liquid crystalline (LC) monomer and its corresponding polymer. By doping different amounts of monomers and lithium salt LiTFSI, the self-assembled nanostructure of the electrolyte was changed from lamellae to double gyroid. The ionic conductivity of the azobenzene-based electrolytes with the double gyroid structure was 1.64 × 10-4 S cm-1, higher than most PEO-based polymer electrolytes. The azobenzene-based system provides a new strategy to design solid electrolytes with self-assembled structures that may be potentially used in solid-state lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract
Block copolymer (BCP) grain structure affects the mechanical, optical, and electrical properties of BCP materials, making the accurate characterization of this grain structure an important goal. In this study, improved BCP grain parameters were obtained by employing an exponentially decaying correlation function within the ellipsoidal grain model, instead of the Gaussian correlation function that was used in previous work. The exponential correlation function provides a better fit to the experimental depolarized light scattering data, which outweighs the disadvantage that it requires numerical integration to obtain the model scattered intensity.

Abstract
We present an approach to photocrosslink bicontinuous microemulsions derived from ternary blends of poly(methoxyethyl acrylate) (PM, Mn = 4200 g/mol), poly(hexyl methacrylate-co-coumarin methacrylate) (PHC, Mn = 6800 g/mol), and PM-b-PHC diblock polymer (Mn = 19,400 g/mol) in a phase-selective manner, enabling structural characterization at an unprecedented level of detail. This strategy utilizes the [2 + 2] photodimerization reaction of coumarin derivatives to covalently crosslink blends without the use of harsh reagents or disruptive thermal treatment, thus preserving the intricate network structure throughout curing. The resulting crosslinked bicontinuous microemulsions exhibited rubbery behavior at elevated temperatures, achieving an elastic shear modulus of nearly 1 MPa at 70 °C, owing to the presence of the three-dimensional co-continuous network morphology. The dimensional stabilization afforded by crosslinking further allowed the microstructure to be directly imaged by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Contrary to recent theoretical findings, the BμE appears in a wide temperature and compositional window, suggesting that it is a robust feature of these blends. As a proof of concept demonstrating both the utility of bicontinuous microemulsion-derived materials and versatility of this strategy toward broader applications in energy storage and transport, the uncrosslinked portion of a cured blend was extracted by washing and replaced with an ionic liquid; the resultant heterogeneous solid electrolyte exhibited a room-temperature conductivity of 2 mS/cm, approximately one-quarter that of the pure ionic liquid.

Abstract
In this work, the question of the influence of the counterion size on the self-assembly in melts of diblock copolymers with one charged block was studied using coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations. It was assumed that the blocks were fully compatible, i.e., the Flory-Huggins parameter χ between them was equal to 0. Due to the presence of correlation attraction (electrostatic cohesion) between the charged species, the systems with all types of counterions underwent transitions to ordered states, forming various morphologies, including lamellae, perforated lamellae, and hexagonally packed cylinders. Phase diagrams were constructed by varying the chain composition fc and locating the order-disorder transition positions in terms of the electrostatic strength parameter λ (dimensionless Bjerrum length). Despite having a rather large ion size mismatch, the systems with smaller counterions demonstrated an even better tendency to form microphase separated states than the systems with larger ones. It was found that the differences between the phase diagrams of the systems with different counterions can be roughly rationalized by using coordinates (volume fraction of the charged block φc-modified interaction parameter λ*). The latter parameter assumes that the electrostatic energy is simply inversely proportional to the characteristic distance between the ions of different signs. Such an approach appeared to be rather effective and allowed the diagrams obtained for different counterion sizes to almost coincide. The results of this work suggest that the counterion size can be used as a tool to control the system morphology as well as the effective incompatibility between the blocks.

Abstract
In this work using dissipative particle dynamics simulations with explicit treatment of polar species we demonstrate that the molecular nature of dielectric media has a significant impact on swelling and collapse of a polyelectrolyte chain in a dilute solution. We show that the small-scale effects related to the presence of polar species lead to the intensification of the electrostatic interactions when the charges are close to each other and/or their density is high enough. As a result, the electrostatic strength , usually regarded as the main parameter governing the polyelectrolyte chain collapse, does not have a universal meaning: the value of λ at which the coil-to-globule transition occurs is found to be dependent on the specific fixed value of the solvent bulk permittivity ε while varying the monomer unit charge Q and vice versa. This effect is observed even when the backbone and the counterions have the same polarity as the solvent beads, i.e. no dielectric mismatch is present. The reason for such behavior is rationalized in terms of the "effective" dielectric permittivity εeff which depends on the volume fraction φ of charged units inside the polymer chain volume; using εeff instead of ε collapses all data onto one master curve describing the chain shrinking with λ. Furthermore, it is shown that a polar chain adopts less swollen conformations in the polyelectrolyte regime and collapses more easily compared to a non-polar chain.

Abstract
Solution-processable semiconducting materials are complex materials with a wide range of applications. Despite their extensive study and utility, their molecular interactions as manifested, for example, in phase behavior are poorly understood. Here, we aim to understand the phase behavior of conjugated systems by determining phase diagrams spanning extensive temperature ranges for various combinations of the highly disordered semiconducting polymer (PTB7-Th) with crystallizable (IT-M and PC61BM) and noncrystallizable (di-PDI) small molecule acceptors (SMAs), with polystyrene as an amorphous control, a nonsemiconducting commodity polymer. We discover that the apparent binodal of the studied blends frequently consists of an upper critical solution temperature (UCST) and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) branch, exhibiting a sharp kink where the branches join. Our work suggests that phase diagrams might be a probe in combination with sophisticated models to understand the complexity of semiconducting materials, including microstructure and molecular interactions.

Abstract
In this work, we develop a method for simulating polar species in the dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) method. The main idea behind the method is to treat each bead as a dumb-bell, i.e., two sub-beads kept at a fixed distance, instead of a point-like particle. The relation between the bead dipole moment and the bulk dielectric permittivity was obtained. The interaction force of single charges in polar liquid showed that the effective dielectric permittivity is somewhat smaller than that obtained for the bulk case at large separation between the charges. In order to understand the reasons behind the observed drop in the dielectric permittivity, we calculate the electric field of an isolated charge in a polar liquid; no permittivity drop is observed for this case. We can assume that the behavior observed for the force is due to the fact that the probing point is always associated with the charged bead, which is a force center, which essentially leads to a non-homogeneous density distribution around it on average; this is not the case when the field is measured. The interaction of a single charge with an interface between two liquids with different permittivities was studied after that; the model is found to correctly reproduce the "mirror image" effects. Finally, we show why it is necessary to treat the polar species in DPD explicitly by investigating the behavior of a charged colloidal particle at a liquid-liquid interface.

Abstract
Lamellar structure is a prominent state in soft condensed matter. Swelling lamellar layers to highly asymmetric structures by a second component is a facile, cost-effective strategy to impart materials with adaptive size and tunable properties. One key question that remains unsolved is how defects form and affect the asymmetric lamellar order. This study unravels the role of defects by swelling a miktoarm block copolymer with a homopolymer. Ordered lamellae first lose translational order by a significant increase in the number of dislocations and then lose orientational order by the generation of disclinations. The homopolymers are not uniformly distributed in defective lamellae and primarily segregate in the vicinity of disclination cores. The free energy of defects is mainly contributed by molecular splay and significantly alleviated by an increased radius of local curvature. This study provides direct evidence to reveal the role of defects and lamellar order in block copolymer/homopolymer blends and also sheds light on understanding analogous structural transitions in other soft systems, including lyotropic liquid crystals, phospholipid membranes, and polymer nanocomposites.

Abstract
We describe the phase behavior of a partially charged ternary polymer blend model system, comprising a compositionally symmetric poly[(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate-co-oligo(ethylene glycol) propyl sodium sulfonate methacrylate)]-b-polystyrene (POEGMA23-PS) diblock polymer and the constituent POEGMA23 and PS homopolymers, along the volumetrically symmetric isopleth, where 23 denotes the percentage of charged monomers in the POEGMA chain. Small-angle neutron and X-ray scattering and dynamic mechanical spectroscopy measurements reveal morphological transitions from a layered superlattice to swollen lamellae to a bicontinuous microemulsion (BμE), followed by macroscopic phase separation, with increasing homopolymer content. The BμE channel occurs between 85 and 90% homopolymer addition, positioned approximately at the isotropic Lifshitz composition predicted by mean-field theory for neutral systems. The resulting BμE morphology exhibits a periodicity of 26 nm, yielding a mesoscopically structured but macroscopically disordered bicontinuous structure. That this structure can be achieved in a charged polymer system is surprising, given the huge asymmetries typically induced by adding charge to either diblock copolymers or binary polymer blends.

Abstract
Rapid early disease prevention or precise diagnosis is almost impossible in low-resource settings. Natural ordered structures in nature have great potential for the development of ultrasensitive biosensors. Here, motivated by the unique structures and extraordinary functionalities of ordered structures in nature, a biosensor based on butterfly wings is presented. In this study, a flexible Morpho menelaus (M. menelaus) based wearable sensor is integrated with a microfluidic system and electronic networks to facilitate the diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease (ND). In the microfluidic section, the structural characteristics of the M. menelaus wings up layer are combined with SiO2 nanoparticles to form a heterostructure. The fluorescent enhancement property of the heterostructure is used to increase the fluorescent intensity for multiplex detection of two proteins: IgG and AD7c-NTP. For the electronic section, conductive ink is blade-coated on the under layer of wings for measuring resistance change rate to obtain the frequency of static tremors of ND patients. The disposable M. menelaus based flexible microfluidic and electronic sensor enables biochemical-physiological hybrid monitoring of ND. The sensor is also amenable to a variety of applications, such as comprehensive personal healthcare and human-machine interaction.
