Abstract
Recently, the chain-walking ethylene polymerization strategy has garnered widespread attention as an efficient and straightforward method for preparing polyolefin elastomers. In this study, a series of 2,4,8-triarylnaphthyl iminopyridyl nickel catalysts were synthesized and used in ethylene polymerization. These catalysts demonstrated moderate catalytic activity (105 g mol-1 h-1), producing high-molecular-weight (up to 145.5 kg/mol) polyethylene materials with high branching degrees (75-95/1000C) and correspondingly low melting points. Detailed analysis using 13C NMR spectroscopy revealed that the polyethylenes primarily featured methyl and long-chain branches. Mechanical testing of the polyethylene samples obtained from catalysts Ni1-Ni3 exhibited moderate stress at break (4.64-6.97 MPa) coupled with a very high strain at break (1650-3752%), indicating their very good ductility. Furthermore, these polyethylenes showcased great elastic recovery abilities, with strain recovery values ranging from 72% to 85%. In contrast, the polyethylene produced by Ni4 displayed notably inferior tensile strength (0.16 MPa) and tensile recovery (43%). To the best of our knowledge, this study represents the inaugural utilization of a nickel iminopyridyl catalyst in the preparation of a polyethylene thermoplastic elastomer.

Abstract
In α-diimine nickel catalyst-mediated ethylene polymerization, adjusting catalytic parameters such as steric and electronic factors, as well as spectator ligands, offers an intriguing approach for tailoring the thermal and physical properties of the resulting products. This study explores two sets of C2-symmetric α-diimine nickel complexes-nickel bromide and nickel chloride-where ortho-steric and electronic substituents, as well as nickel halide, were varied to regulate simultaneously chain walking, chain transfer, and the properties of the polymers produced. These complexes were activated in situ with Et2AlCl, resulting in exceptionally high catalytic activities (in the level of 106-107 g (PE) mol-1 (Ni) h-1) under all reaction conditions. Nickel bromide complexes, with higher ortho-steric hindrance, exhibited superior catalytic activity compared to their less hindered counterparts, whereas the reverse was observed for complexes containing chloride. Increased steric hindrance in both sets of complexes facilitated higher polymer molecular weights and promoted chain walking reactions at lower reaction temperature (40 °C), while the effect became less pronounced at higher temperature (100 °C). However, the electron-withdrawing effect of ortho-substituents hindered the rate of monomer insertion, chain propagation, and chain walking reactions, leading to the synthesis of semi-crystalline polyethylene with an exceptionally high melt temperature of 134.6 °C and a high crystallinity of up to 31.9%. Most importantly, nickel bromide complexes demonstrated significantly higher activity compared to their chloride counterparts, while the latter yielded polymers with higher molecular weights and increased melt temperatures. These high molecular weights, coupled with controlled branching degrees, resulted in polyethylenes with excellent tensile strength (up to 13.9 MPa) and excellent elastic properties (up to 81%), making them suitable for a broad range of applications.

Abstract
The development of homogeneous metal catalysts with both high activity and exceptional thermal stability is crucial for the efficient synthesis of polyolefin elastomers (POEs) through solution-phase olefin polymerization. In this study, a series of Hf (Hf1-Hf5), Zr (Zr1), and Ti (Ti1) complexes featuring thioether-amido ligands were synthesized and carefully characterized using advanced techniques such as 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for Hf4 and Hf5. The results revealed that the catalytic activity and 1-octene incorporation efficiency of these metal complexes followed the trend Hf > Zr > Ti, underscoring the significant impact of the metal center on catalytic performance. Furthermore, the choice of ligands was found to play a critical role in dictating the catalytic properties, with ligands bearing less steric hindrance on the sulfur atom proving to be more favorable for copolymerization reactions. Notably, the Hf complex Hf1, featuring a methyl group on the sulfur atom, displayed exceptional catalytic activity as high as 21,060 kg(polymer)·mol-1(Hf)·h-1 toward ethylene/1-octene copolymerization at 120 °C and produced POE with a high molecular weight (Mw = 6.3 × 104 g·mol-1), relatively narrow distribution (Đ = 2.4), and high incorporation of 1-octene (34.1 mol %). This study demonstrates the potential of tailored ligand design in developing efficient metal catalysts for the production of high-value-added POEs.

Abstract
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylenes (UHMWPEs) are significant engineering plastics for their unique properties, such as high impact resistance, abrasion resistance, weatherability, lubricity, and chemical resistance. Consequently, developing a suitable catalyst is vital in facilitating the preparation of UHMWPE. The late transition metal catalysts have emerged as effective catalysts in producing UHMWPE due to their availability, enhanced tolerance to heteroatom groups, active polymerization characteristics, and good copolymerization ability with polar monomers. In this review, we mainly focus on the late transition metal catalysts, summarizing advancements in their application over the past decade. Four key metals (Ni, Pd, Fe, Co) for generating linear or branched UHMWPE will be primarily explored in this manuscript.

The Effect of Feeding Sequence on the Structure and Properties of the Ethylene/1-Octene Copolymer in the Semi-Continuous Polymerization Reaction System. Polymers (Basel) 2024; 16:526. Abstract
The performance of ethylene/1-octene copolymer primarily depends on the microstructure of the polymer chain. This study employed a new method to control the inter-distribution of hexyl chain branches directly on the backbone of the ethylene/1-octene copolymer. Three ethylene/1-octene copolymers with different inter-distributions of hexyl chain branches were synthesized using [Me2Si(C5Me4) (NtBu)] TiCl2 (Ti-CGC) by different feeding sequences in the semi-continuous polymerization reaction system. The three copolymers were named according to the feeding sequence of the materials: ethylene/1-octene/Ti-CGC (EOC), 1-octene/Ti-CGC/ethylene (OCE), and ethylene/Ti-CGC/1-octene (ECO), respectively. The structure and properties of the copolymers were characterized using HT-GPC, 13C-NMR, DSC, WAXD, DMA, MI, and Uniaxial Tension Test. The results showed that the feeding sequence greatly affected the comonomer distribution of the molecular chains, molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and chemical composition of the copolymers, consequently influencing their thermal performance and mechanical properties. Thus, it is probable that one could obtain an ethylene/1-octene copolymer with designed properties by controlling the feeding sequence during the ethylene/1-octene semi-continuous copolymerization process.

Abstract
Using a highly active supported permethylindenyl-phenoxy (PHENI*) titanium catalyst, high molecular weight ethylene-propylene (EPM) and ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM) elastomers are prepared using slurry-phase catalysis. Final copolymer composition was found to reflect the monomer feed ratio in a linear fashion, to access a continuum of material properties with a single catalyst. Post-polymerisation crosslinking of EPDM was also demonstrated in a model sulfur vulcanisation system.

Abstract
The introduction of a secondary interaction is an efficient strategy to modulate transition-metal-catalyzed ethylene (co)polymerization. In this contribution, O-donor groups were suspended on amine-imine ligands to synthesize a series of nickel complexes. By adjusting the interaction between the nickel metal center and the O-donor group on the ligands, these nickel complexes exhibited high activities for ethylene polymerization (up to 3.48 × 106 gPE·molNi-1·h-1) with high molecular weight up to 5.59 × 105 g·mol-1 and produced good polyethylene elastomers (strain recovery (SR) = 69-81%). In addition, these nickel complexes can catalyze the copolymerization of ethylene with vinyl acetic acid, 6-chloro-1-hexene, 10-undecylenic, 10-undecenoic acid, and 10-undecylenic alcohol to prepare the functionalized polyolefins.

Abstract
Recently, polyolefin thermoplastic elastomers can be obtained directly using ethylene as a single feedstock via α-diimine nickel-catalyzed ethylene chain walking polymerization. Here, a new range of bulky acenaphthene-based α-diimine nickel complexes with hybrid o-phenyl and -diarylmethyl anilines were constructed and applied to ethylene polymerization. All the nickel complexes under the activation of excess Et2AlCl exhibited good activity (level of 106 g mol-1 h-1) and produced polyethylene with high molecular weight (75.6-352.4 kg/mol) as well as proper branching densities (55-77/1000C). All the branched polyethylenes obtained exhibited high strain (704-1097%) and moderate to high stress (7-25 MPa) at break values. Most interestingly, the polyethylene produced by the methoxy-substituted nickel complex exhibited significantly lower molecular weights and branching densities, as well as significantly poorer strain recovery values (48% vs. 78-80%) than those by the other two complexes under the same conditions.

Abstract
Polyolefins are the most consumed polymeric materials extensively used in our daily life and are usually generated by coordination polymerization in the polyolefin industry. Olefin polymerization catalysts containing transition metal–organic compound combinations are undoubtedly crucial for the development of the polyolefin industry. The nitrogen donor atom has attracted considerable interest and is widely used in combination with the transition metal for the fine-tuning of the chemical environment around the metal center. In addition to widely reported olefin polymerization catalysts with imine and amide donors (sp2 hybrid N), late transition metal catalysts with chelating amine donors (sp3 hybrid N) for olefin polymerization have never been reviewed. In this review paper, we focus on late transition metal (Ni, Pd, Fe, and Co) catalysts with chelating amines for olefin polymerization. A variety of late transition metal catalysts bearing different neutral amine donors are surveyed for olefin polymerization, including amine–imine, amine–pyridine, α-diamine, and [N, N, N] tridentate ligands with amine donors. The relationship between catalyst structure and catalytic performance is also encompassed. This review aims to promote the design of late transition metal catalysts with unique chelating amine donors for the development of high-performance polyolefin materials.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to prepare activated carbon materials with different porous structures. For this purpose, the biomass precursor, beech wood, was carbonized in an inert atmosphere, and the obtained charcoal was physically activated using carbon dioxide at 1273 K. Different porous structures were obtained by controlling the time of the activation process. Prepared materials were characterized in terms of textural (N2 sorption at 77 K), structural (XRD), and sorption properties (CO2, C2H4, C4H10). The shortest activation time resulted in a mostly microporous structure, which provided a high sorption of CO2. Increasing the activation time led to an increasing of the pores’ diameters. Therefore, the highest ethene uptake was obtained for the material with an intermediate activation time, while the highest butane uptake was obtained for the material with the highest activation time.

Abstract
Herein, we report copolymerizations of ethylene (E) and ortho-/meta-/para-fluorostyrenes (SF =oFS/mFS/pFS) by using quinolyl methylene fluorenyl scandium complex (Flu-CH2 -Qu)Sc(CH2 SiMe3 )2 . The copolymerizations proceed in a controlled fashion to afford copolymers composed of "soft" ethylene-fluorostyurene (E-SF ) random segments (Tg =-22.2-5.1 °C) and "hard" crystalline ethylene-ethylene (E-E) segments (Tm =42.3-130.2 °C). The copolymers behave like thermoplastic elastomers at room temperature by showing high stress values up to 39.5 MPa under elongation-at-break above 774 % with elastic recovery over 75 %. The excellent mechanical properties are mainly attributed to the microphase separation of the nanoscale crystalline E-E domain from the amorphous E-SF copolymer matrix proved by AFM, WAXD and SAXS. The mechanism investigation by the density functional theory (DFT) simulation reveals that the steric bulky and electron-withdrawing ligand of the catalytic precursor prefers E propagation to generate long E-E segments, while the incorporation of SF is thermodynamic control.

Abstract
The introduction of m-xylyl substituents to α-diimine Pd(II) catalyst promotes living ethylene polymerization at room temperature and low pressure to yield high molecular weight polyethylene (PE) with low branching (<17/1000C). m-Xylyl groups provide a highly effective blockage to the axial sites of the catalytic center and form a distorted sandwich geometry. The shielding prevents chain-transfer and easy accessibility of polar monomers, leading to a living polymerization. Conducting a light irradiation as part of the one-step metal-organic insertion light initiated radical (MILRad) process leads to diblock copolymers of ethylene and acrylates. Incorporation of different acrylate block sequences can significantly modify the mechanical and chemical properties of block copolymers which can be modulated to be a hard plastic, elastomer, or semi-amorphous polymer.

Abstract
In this contribution, we install an azobenzene functionality in olefin polymerization catalysts and use light to modulate their properties via photoinduced trans-cis isomerization of the azobenzene moiety. The initially targeted azobenzene-functionalized α-diimine palladium and nickel catalysts are not photoresponsive. To address this issue, an imine-amine system bearing interrupted conjugation with the metal center, and a sandwich-type α-diimine system bearing an azobenzene unit at a position covalently far from the metal center were prepared and studied. We demonstrate that light can be used to tune their properties in ethylene polymerization and copolymerization with polar comonomers, enabling light-induced control of the polymerization processes, polymer microstructures and polymer properties. More interestingly, the light-mediated property changes were attributed to ligand electronic effects in one system and ligand steric effects in the other.

Abstract
In recent years, polyolefin elastomers play an increasingly important role in industry.
The late transition metal complex catalysts, especially α-diimine Ni(II) and α-diimine
Pd(II) complex catalysts, are popular “chain-walking” catalysts. They can prepare polyolefin
with various structures, ranging from linear configuration to highly branched configuration.
Combining the “chain-walking” characteristic with different polymerization strategies, polyolefins
with good elasticity can be obtained. Among them, olefin copolymer is a common
way to produce polyolefin elastomers. For instance, strictly defined diblock or triblock copolymers
with excellent elastic properties were synthesized by adding ethylene and α-olefin
in sequence. As well as the incorporation of polar monomers may lead to some unexpected
improvement. Chain shuttling polymerization can generate multiblock copolymers in one pot
due to the interaction of the catalysts with chain shuttling agent. Furthermore, when regarding ethylene as the sole
feedstock, owing to the “oscillation” of the ligands of the asymmetric catalysts, polymers with stereo-block structures
can be generated. Generally, the elasticity of these polyolefins mainly comes from the alternately crystallineamorphous
block structures, which is closely related to the characteristic of the catalytic system. To improve performance
of the catalysts and develop excellent polyolefin elastomers, research on the catalytic mechanism is of great
significance. Electron spin resonance (ESR), as a precise method to detect unpaired electron, can be applied to study
transition metal active center. Therefore, the progress on the exploration of the valence and the proposed configuration
of catalyst active center in the catalytic process by ESR is also reviewed.

Abstract
Homo- and copolymers of propylene and 1-decene were synthesized by controlled chain-walking (co)polymerization using phenyl substituted α-diimine nickel complexes activated with modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO). This catalytic system was found to polymerize propylene in a living fashion to furnish high molecular weight ethylene-propylene (EP) copolymers. The copolymerizations proceeded to give high molecular weight P/1-decene copolymers with narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn ≈ 1.2), which indicated a living nature of copolymerization at room temperature. The random copolymerization results indicated the possibility of precise branched structure control, depending on the polymerization temperature and time.
