Abstract
The membrane lipid compositions of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells are inherently different in many aspects, although some similarities exist in their structure and composition. Therefore, selective targeting of membrane lipids with a compound of therapeutic value, such as an antibacterial copolymer, is often challenging. Hence, developing an ideal copolymer with antibacterial properties demands hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity balance with a high biosafety profile. To integrate hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance and cationic charge in an alternating antibacterial copolymer with enzyme and pH-responsiveness, a lysine appended styrenic monomer was copolymerized with a fatty acid (octanoic acid (OA) or myristic acid (MA)) tethered maleimide monomer via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. A range of microscopic analyses, including dynamic light scattering (DLS), confirmed the formation of nanoaggregates (size ∼30-40 nm) by these polymers in aqueous solution with positive zeta potential (cationic surface charge). Hydrophobic Nile red (NR) dye was successfully encapsulated in the nanoaggregates, and the in vitro release kinetics of the NR dye were monitored at different pHs and in the presence or absence of esterase/lipase. The in vitro release kinetics of NR revealed ∼85% dye release in the presence of pH 5.5 and lipase, suggesting their suitability for pH/enzyme-triggered therapeutic payload delivery. The standard broth microdilution assay showed significant bactericidal activity against both Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria with an MIC50 value <30 μg mL-1. The effect of polymeric nanoaggregates on bacterial morphology and in vitro survival was further confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), agar gel disk diffusion assay, and bacterial live/dead cell count. The significantly low hemolytic activity against red blood cells (RBCs) (HC50 >103 μg mL-1) and nontoxic effect on human intestinal epithelial cells (INT 407) (EC50 >500 μg mL-1) ensure that the polymer nanoaggregates are safe for in vivo use and can serve as a potent antibacterial polymer.

Abstract
A series of dual stimuli-responsive block copolymers comprising temperature-responsive poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) and biodegradable pH-responsive poly(l-lysine) (PLL) of varying chain length were synthesized by a combination of free radical polymerization and ring opening polymerization. The block copolymers formed micelles and vesicles (polymersomes) in response to temperature and pH, respectively, in aqueous solution. The nanoassemblies were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering techniques. Encapsulation of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic dyes in the polymersomes was shown. Doxorubicin (DOX) was loaded in the polymersomes and its controlled release in response to the two stimuli, independently and jointly, was studied. The drug was found to be released due to stimuli-induced increased permeability without disassembly of the polymersomes. A significant increase in the cellular uptake of the drug-loaded polymersomes at hyperthermia conditions was demonstrated at 41 °C and release of the drug upon localization in lysosomes was observed. Cellular internalization pathway of the polymersomes was investigated by competitive inhibition assay and a combination of endocytic pathways dominated by caveolae-mediated mechanism was found to be operative.

Temperature- and pH-Responsive Schizophrenic Copolymer Brush Coatings with Enhanced Temperature Response in Pure Water. ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES 2023; 15:8676-8690. Abstract
Novel brush coatings were fabricated with glass surface-grafted chains copolymerized using surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) from 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl methacrylate (OEGMA188) and acrylamide (AAm), taken in different proportions. P(OEGMA188-co-AAm) brushes with AAm mole fraction >44% (determined with XPS and TOF-SIMS spectroscopy) and nearly constant with the depth copolymer composition (TOF-SIMS profiling) exhibit unusual temperature-induced transformations: The contact angle of water droplets on P(OEGMA188-co-AAm) coatings increases by ∼45° with temperature, compared to 17-18° for POEGMA188 and PAAm. The thickness of coatings immersed in water and the morphology of coatings imaged in air show a temperature response for POEGMA188 (using reflectance spectroscopy and AFM, respectively), but this response is weak for P(OEGMA188-co-AAm) and absent for PAAm. This suggests mechanisms more complex than a simple transition between hydrated loose coils and hydrophobic collapsed chains. For POEGMA188, the hydrogen bonds between the ether oxygens of poly(ethylene glycol) and water hydrogens are formed below the transition temperature Tc and disrupted above Tc when polymer-polymer interactions are favored. Different hydrogen bond structures of PAAm include free amide groups, cis-trans-multimers, and trans-multimers of amide groups. Here, hydrogen bonds between free amide groups and water dominate at T < Tc but structures favored at T > Tc, such as cis-trans-multimers and trans-multimers of amide groups, can still be hydrated. The enhanced temperature-dependent response of wettability for P(OEGMA188-co-AAm) with a high mole fraction of AAm suggests the formation at Tc of more hydrophobic structures, realized by hydrogen bonding between the ether oxygens of OEGMA188 and the amide fragments of AAm, where water molecules are caged. Furthermore, P(OEGMA188-co-AAm) coatings immersed in pH buffer solutions exhibit a 'schizophrenic' behavior in wettability, with transitions that mimic LCST and UCST for pH = 3, LCST for pH = 5 and 7, and any transition blocked for pH = 9.

Abstract
Functionalized materials with reversible color switching are highly attractive in many application fields, especially as rewritable media for information storage. It is critical yet challenging to develop a cost-effective strategy for the fabrication of stimulus-responsive chromogenic systems. Herein, we present a versatile dip-coating approach to fabricate robust smart textile with acid/base-driven chromotropic capability. Owing to the introduction of novel maleimide-based copolymers bearing azobenzene derivative moieties, smart textiles possess rapid color switching between yellow and orange-red, which is triggered by acid-base stimulations with the resulting reversible protonation/deprotonation of maleimide moieties. As a proof of concept of the application of the smart textile for high-performance rewritable media, various rewritable elaborate patterns can be fast trifluoroacetic acid-printed/triethylamine-erased (within 20 s) with excellent cycling stability and long legible duration (>30 days). Meanwhile, the smart textile can be employed as a visual sensor for the detection of hydrogen fluoride gas leakage. It is highlighted that the as-prepared robust smart textiles with superhydrophobic surfaces have excellent antifouling properties and chemical/mechanical stabilities, which can tolerate harsh environmental conditions and repetitive mechanical deformation. The robust smart textiles with simple low-cost large-scale production may find more advanced potential applications besides information storage and sensors demonstrated.

Abstract
Multicomponent hydrogels offer a tremendous opportunity for preparing useful and exciting materials that cannot be accessed using a single component. Here, we describe an unusual multi‐component low‐molecular weight gelling system that exhibits pH‐responsive behavior involving cooperative hydrogen bonding between the components, allowing it to maintain a gel phase across a wide pH range. Unlike traditional acid‐triggered gels, our system undergoes a change in the underlying molecular packing and maintains the β‐sheet structure both at acidic and basic pH. We further establish that autonomous programming between these two gel states is possible by an enzymatic reaction which allows us to prepare gels with improved mechanical properties.

Abstract
Surfactant, either natural or synthetic, forms a different type of aggregates among which 'Micelle' is truly an important dynamic surfactant aggregate, having a different region to interact with several organic, inorganic, and biomolecules; therefore the practical use of micelle is rapidly growing day-to-day. Surfactant-micelle, looks like a reactor of nano-dimension, govern a variety of reactions in aqueous media extensively. Oxidation is one of the vital reaction, take a part in the course of several organic transformations which are not very easy to execute in water media alone due to the solubility problem. Moreover, in order to achieve a quick transformation overcoming several difficulties the utility of micellar media became an excellent innovation, that's why nowadays, the surfactant and its aggregates are a focus of interest to the researcher of synthetic field and thus its practical applicability has been tremendously cultivated over the few decades. It is, therefore, useful to introduce some basic concepts regarding the aggregation of surfactants. Subsequently, we emphasize the importance of micellar media on the kinetics of oxidation reactions mediated by several metal ions with a special emphasis on their catalytic role.
