A Simple-Structured Perovskite Wavelength Sensor for Full-Color Imaging Application

Filter-Less Color-Selective Photodetector Derived from Integration of Parallel Perovskite Photoelectric Response Units

Color-selective photodetectors (PDs) play an indispensable role in spectral recognition, image sensing, and other fields. Nevertheless, complex filters and delicate optical paths in such devices significantly increase their complexity and size, which subsequently impede their integration in smart optoelectronic chips for universal applications. This work demonstrates the successful fabrication of filter-less color-selective perovskite PDs by integrating three perovskite units with different photoresponse on a single chip. The variation in photoresponse is attributed to different quantities of SnO2 nanoparticles, synthesized through controlled ultrasonic treatment on the surface of the electron transportation layer SnS2, which selectively absorb short-wavelength light, thus increasing the relative transmittance of long-wavelength light and enhancing the photoresponse of the units to long wavelengths. By integrating any two units and deriving the formula for the wavelength to the responsivity ratio, a wavelength sensor is developed which can accurately identify incident light in the range of 400-700 nm with a minimum error <3 nm. Furthermore, the device integrating three units with different photoresponse can identify red, green and blue in polychromatic light to achieve color imaging with a relative error <6%. This work provides valuable insights into wavelength identification and color imaging of perovskite PDs.

Real-Time Ultraviolet Monitoring System with Low-Temperature Solution-Processed High-Transparent p-n Junction Photodiode with a Fast Responsive and High Rectification Ratio

We introduce an enhanced performance organic-inorganic hybrid p-n junction photodiode, utilizing poly[bis(4-phenyl) (2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine] (PTAA) and ZnO, fabricated through a solution-based process at a low temperature under 100 °C. Improved interfacial electronic structure, characterized by shallower Gaussian standard deviation of the density-of-state distribution and a larger interface dipole, has resulted in a remarkable fold increase of ∼102 in signal-to-noise ratio for the device. This photodiode exhibits a high specific detectivity (2.32 × 1011 Jones, cm × Hz × W - 1 ) and exceptional rectification ratio (5.47 × 104 at ±1 V). The primary light response, concentrated in the optimal thickness of the PTAA layer, contributes to response over the entire UVA region and rapid response speed, with rise and fall times of 0.24 and 0.64 ms, respectively. Furthermore, this work demonstrates immense potential of our device for health monitoring applications by enabling real-time and continuous measurements of UV intensity.

Surface Engineering of Perovskite Single Crystals by Atomic Layer Deposited Tin Oxide for Optical Communication

Perovskite single crystals with excellent physical properties have broad prospects in the field of optoelectronics. However, the presence of dangling bonds, surface dislocations, and chemical impurities results in high surface defect density and sensitivity to humidity. Unfortunately, there are relatively few surface engineering strategies for single perovskite single crystals. We present a strategy utilizing atomic layer deposited SnOx to passivate surface defects in perovskite single crystals. The photodetector prepared based on the modified FAPbBr3 single crystals exhibits a low dark current of 1.89 × 10-9 A at a 5 V bias, close to 4 times lower with respect to the pristine device, a high detectivity of 2.3 × 1010 jones, and a fast response time of 27 μs. Moreover, the photodetectors feature long-term operational stability because the presence of a dense SnOx capping layer hinders the ingress of moisture and diffusion of ions. We further demonstrate the promise of our perovskite single crystal detectors for real-time subaqueous optical communication.

Alkylammonium Halides for Phase Regulation and Luminescence Modulation of Cesium Copper Iodide Nanocrystals for Light-Emitting Diodes

All-inorganic cesium copper halide nanocrystals have attracted extensive attention due to their cost-effectiveness, low toxicity, and rich luminescence properties. However, controlling the synthesis of these nanocrystals to achieve a precise composition and high luminous efficiency remains a challenge that limits their future application. Herein, we report the effect of oleylammonium iodide on the synthesis of copper halide nanocrystals to control the composition and phase and modulate their photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields (QYs). For CsCu2I3, the PL peak is centered at 560 nm with a PLQY of 47.3%, while the PL peak of Cs3Cu2I5 is located at 440 nm with an unprecedently high PLQY of 95.3%. Furthermore, the intermediate-state CsCu2I3/Cs3Cu2I5 heterostructure shows white light emission with a PLQY of 66.4%, chromaticity coordinates of (0.3176, 0.3306), a high color rendering index (CRI) of 90, and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 6234 K, indicating that it is promising for single-component white-light-emitting applications. The nanocrystals reported in this study have excellent luminescence properties, low toxicity, and superior stability, so they are more suitable for future light-emitting applications.

Differential perovskite hemispherical photodetector for intelligent imaging and location tracking

Advanced photodetectors with intelligent functions are expected to take an important role in future technology. However, completing complex detection tasks within a limited number of pixels is still challenging. Here, we report a differential perovskite hemispherical photodetector serving as a smart locator for intelligent imaging and location tracking. The high external quantum efficiency (~1000%) and low noise (10-13 A Hz-0.5) of perovskite hemispherical photodetector enable stable and large variations in signal response. Analysing the differential light response of only 8 pixels with the computer algorithm can realize the capability of colorful imaging and a computational spectral resolution of 4.7 nm in a low-cost and lensless device geometry. Through machine learning to mimic the differential current signal under different applied biases, one more dimensional detection information can be recorded, for dynamically tracking the running trajectory of an object in a three-dimensional space or two-dimensional plane with a color classification function.

Emerging Computational Micro-Spectrometers - From Complex System Integration to Simple In Situ Modulation

The extensive applications of spectrum analysis across various fields have rendered the traditional desktop spectrometers unable to meet the market demand for portability and instantaneity. Reducing the size of spectrometers has become a topic of interest. Based on this trend, a novel type of computational spectrometer is developed and has been widely studied owing to its unique features. Such spectrometers do not need to integrate complex mechanical or optical structures, and most of them can achieve spectrum analysis by the properties of the material itself combines with the reconstruction algorithm. Impressively, a single-detector computational spectrometer has recently been successfully realized based on in situ modulation of material properties. This not only enables the further miniaturization of the device, but also means that the footprint-resolution limitation which has always existed in the field of hyperspectral imaging has been broken, opening a new era of image analysis. This review summarizes the classifications and principles of various spectrometers, compares the spectrum resolution performances of different types of spectrometers, and highlights the progress of computational spectrometers, especially the revolutionary single-detector spectrometer. It is expected that this review will provide a positive impact on expanding the boundary of spectrum analysis and move hyperspectral imaging forward.

Low-Temperature Emission Dynamics of Methylammonium Lead Bromide Hybrid Perovskite Thin Films at the Sub-Micrometer Scale

We study the low-temperature (T = 4.7 K) emission dynamics of a thin film of methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr3), prepared via the anti-solvent method. Using intensity-dependent (over 5 decades) hyperspectral microscopy under quasi-resonant (532 nm) continuous wave excitation, we revealed spatial inhomogeneities in the thin film emission. This was drastically different at the band-edge (∼550 nm, sharp peaks) than in the emission tail (∼568 nm, continuum of emission). We are able to observe regions of the film at the micrometer scale where emission is dominated by excitons, in between regions of trap emission. Varying the density of absorbed photons by the MAPbBr3 thin films, two-color fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy unraveled the emission dynamics: a fast, resolution-limited (∼200 ps) monoexponential tangled with a stretched exponential decay. We associate the first to the relaxation of excitons and the latter to trap emission dynamics. The obtained stretching exponents can be interpreted as the result of a two-dimensional electron diffusion process: Förster resonant transfer mechanism. Furthermore, the non-vanishing fast monoexponential component even in the tail of the MAPbBr3 emission indicates the subsistence of localized excitons. Finally, we estimate the density of traps in MAPbBr3 thin films prepared using the anti-solvent method at n∼1017 cm-3.
