Abstract
In this research, we investigated the second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of multicomponent hybrid materials formed by meso-tetraphenylporphyrin P (both as free base and ZnII complex), carrying in 2 or 2,12 β-pyrrolic position an electron donor ferrocene (Fc), and/or an electron acceptor fullerene (C60) moiety, connected to the porphyrin core via an ethynyl or an ethynylphenyl spacer. We measured the NLO response by the electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation (EFISH) technique in CH2Cl2 solution with a 1907 nm incident wavelength, recording for all the investigated compounds unexpected negative values of μβ1907. Since density functional theory (DFT) calculations evidenced for P-Fc dyads almost null ground state dipole moments and very low values for P-C60 dyads and Fc-P-C60 triads, our EFISH results suggested a significant contribution to γEFISH of the purely electronic cubic term γ(-2ω; ω, ω, 0), which prevails on the quadratic dipolar orientational one μβ(-2ω; ω, ω)/5kT, as confirmed by computational evidence.

Abstract
The molecular engineering of organometallic complexes has recently attracted renewed interest on account of their potential technological applications for optoelectronics in general and optical data storage. The transition metal which induces control of enhanced nonlinear optical properties of functionalized organometallic complexes versus not only the intensity but also the polarization of the incident laser beam is original and important for all optical switching. This makes organometallic complexes valuable and suitable candidates for nonlinear optical applications. In the present work, we report the synthesis and full characterization of four organometallic complexes consisting of N, N-dibutylamine and azobenzene fragments but differ by auxiliary alkynyl ligands or metal cations. Thus, a ferrocenyl derivative 1 and three ruthenium complexes 2-4 have been prepared. The nonlinear optical properties of the four new azo-based ruthenium and iron organometallic complexes in the solid state, using polymethylmethacrylate as matrix, have been thoroughly studied. This concept is extended to computing the HOMO and LUMO energy levels of the considered complexes, dipole moment, first and second order hyperpolarizabilities using the 6-31 + G(d,p) + LANL2DZ mixed basis set. The second and third nonlinear optical properties of the resulting polymer composites were obtained by measuring SHG and THG response by means of the Maker fringe technique using a laser generating at 1,064 nm with a 30 ps pulse duration. The values of the second and third order NLO susceptibilities of the four organometallic complexes were found to be higher than the common references used. Theoretical calculation shows that the large first and second order hyperpolarizablities are caused by strong intramolecular charge transfer between the transition metal parts and the ligands though a conjugated transmitter. These results indicate that the present organometallic complexes are valuable candidates for optoelectronic and photonic applications.

Abstract
Push-pull functional compounds consisting of dicyanorhodanine derivatives have attracted a lot of interest because their optical, electronic, and charge transport properties make them useful as building blocks for organic photovoltaic implementations. The analysis of the frontier molecular orbitals shows that the vertical transitions of electronic absorption are characterized as intramolecular charge transfer; furthermore, we show that the analyzed compounds exhibit bathochromic displacements when comparing the presence (or absence) of solvent as an interacting medium. In comparison with materials defined by their energy of reorganization of electrons (holes) as electron (hole) transporters, we find a transport hierarchy whereby the molecule ( Z)-2-(1,1-dicyanomethylene)-5-[(4-dimethylamino)benzylidene]-1,3-thiazol-4 is better at transporting holes than molecule ( Z)-2-(1,1-dicyanomethylene)-5-(tetrathiafulvalene-2-ylidene)-1,3-thiazol-4.

Abstract
Conjugated poly-ynes and poly(metalla-ynes) constitute an important class of new materials with potential application in various domains of science. The key factors responsible for the diverse usage of these materials is their intriguing and tunable chemical and photophysical properties. This review highlights fascinating advances made in the field of conjugated organic poly-ynes and poly(metalla-ynes) incorporating group 4-11 metals. This includes several important aspects of conjugated poly-ynes viz. synthetic protocols, bonding, electronic structure, nature of luminescence, structure-property relationships, diverse applications, and concluding remarks. Furthermore, we delineated the future directions and challenges in this particular area of research.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterisation of six new cationic iridium(iii) complexes bearing either 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine (dtBubpy) or 5-NO2-1,10-phenanthroline along with two cyclometallated 2-phenylpyridine derivative ligands, decorated with triphenylamine groups either meta or para to the Ir-CC^N bond or para to the Ir-NC^N bond, are reported. The second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of all the compounds have been determined by the electric field induced second harmonic generation technique and show that the μβEFISH value can be tuned by the nature of the iridium coordination sphere. The dipole moment, μ, necessary to evaluate the quadratic hyperpolarizability βEFISH, was theoretically determined. The linear optical properties of the complexes are also presented and rationalised by quantum-chemical calculations. One of the prepared iridium compounds was incorporated into a polystyrene film, affording the first example of a second-order NLO active polymeric film based on a cationic organometallic complex.

Abstract
Fluorenyl-alkynyl based π-conjugated rod-shaped oligomers bearing different central aromatic moieties and functionalizable di-alkynyl termini, such as H-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-H (OH1), H-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Btz-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-H (OH2) and H-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Btd-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-H (OH3) where Fl = 9,9-dioctylfluorene, Btz = N-hexylbenzotriazole, and Btd = benzothiadiazole, were successfully synthesized by a Pd(0) catalyzed Stille coupling protocol. Electron withdrawing benzothiadiazole and benzotriazole as strong to moderate acceptors and fluorene as the donor have been incorporated to adjust the Donor-Acceptor (D-A) strength for fine-tuning the bandgap (Eg) as well as the emission wavelength. The corresponding digold(i) σ-complexes (PPh3)Au-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Au(PPh3) (OM1), (PPh3)Au-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Btz-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Au(PPh3) (OM2) and (PPh3)Au-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Btd-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Fl-[triple bond, length as m-dash]-Au(PPh3) (OM3) have also been prepared by a reaction of Au(PPh3)Cl and methanolic NaOMe in DCM with the corresponding alkynyl functionalized oligomers to take advantage of the heavy-atom effect on their emissive properties. The synthesized rod-shaped π-conjugated fluorene based oligomers and their binuclear Au(i) σ-complexes have been unambiguously characterized by various spectroscopic tools such as FTIR and multinuclear NMR as well as MALDI-TOF and CHN analyses. The absorption and emission spectral studies exhibited a progressive red shift with increasing the electron withdrawing character of the central aromatic unit. The rod-like oligomers having alkynyl termini and the corresponding digold(i) complexes are found to be blue, cyan and yellow emissive, demonstrating the fine-tuning of the emission wavelength. Most importantly, the fluorene based π-conjugated yellow light emitters OH3 and OM3 are successfully achieved by varying the donor/acceptor moiety to the fluorenyl-alkynyl backbone. The digold(i) diacetylide organometallic wires exhibit phosphorescence at 77 K in degassed CH2Cl2 due to the efficient intersystem crossing from the S1 to the T1 excited state as induced by heavy atoms.

Abstract
Two new macrocyclic ligands containing 17- and 19-membered O2N3-donor aza-crowns anchored to [60]Fullerene were synthesized and characterized by employing HPLC, electrospray ionization mass (ESI-MS), 1H and 13C NMR, UV-vis, IR spectroscopies, as well as powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in solid state. TGA measurements revealed that upon linking each of these macrocycle rings to [60]Fullerene, the decomposition point measured for [60]Fullerene moiety was increased, indicating on the promoted stability of [60]Fullerene backbone during binding to these macrocyclic ligands. Moreover, the ground state non-covalent interactions of [60]Fullerene derivatives of O2Nx (x=2, and 3) aza-crown macrocyclic ligands namely, L1-L4 with zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) were also investigated by UV-vis absorption, steady state and time resolved fluorescence spectrophotometry in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP). The calculation of Stern-Volmer constants (KSV) indicated on existence of an efficient quenching mechanism comprising of the excited singlet state of ZnPc in the presence of L1-L4. The observation of an appropriate correlation between decrease in fluorescence intensity and lifetime parameters led us to propose the occurrence of a static mechanism for the fluorescence quenching of ZnPc in the presence of L1-L3. The binding constants (KBH) of L1-L4/ZnPc were also determined applying the fluorescence quenching experiments. Meanwhile, the incompatibility of both KSV and KBH values found for L4 was also described in terms of structural features using DFT calculations using the B3LYP functional and 6-31G* basis set.
