Iron-Catalyzed Regio- and Stereoselective Hydrosilylation of 1,3-Enynes To Access 1,3-Dienylsilanes

Regiodivergent Hydrosilylation of Polar Enynes to Synthesize Site-Specific Silyl-Substituted Dienes

Herein, we present catalyst-regulated switchable site-selective hydrosilylation of enynes, which are suitable for a wide range of alkyl and aryl substituted polar enynes and exhibit excellent functional group compatibility. Under the optimized conditions, silyl groups can be precisely installed at various positions of 1,3-dienes. While α- and γ-silylation products were obtained under platinum-catalytic systems, β-silylation products were delivered with [Cp*RuCl]4 as catalyst. This process lead to the formation of 1,3-dienoates with diverse substitutions, which would pose challenges with other methodologies.

Nickel-Catalyzed Intramolecular Hydrosilylation of Alkynes: Embracing Conventional and Electrochemical Routes

Nickel-catalyzed intramolecular hydrosilylation can be efficiently achieved with high regio- and stereoselectivities through two distinct methodologies. The first approach utilizes a conventional method, involving the reduction of nickel salt (NiBr2-2,2'-bipyridine) using manganese metal. The second method employs a one-step electrochemical reaction, utilizing the sacrificial anode process and NiBr2bipy catalysis. Both methods yield silylated heterocycles in good to high yields through a syn-exo-dig cyclization process. Control experiments and molecular electrochemistry (cyclic voltammetry) provided further insights into the reaction mechanism.

1,3-diene-based AIEgens: Stereoselective synthesis and applications

In recent years, significant advancements have been made in the synthesis and application of 1,3-dienes. This specific structural motif has garnered significant attention from researchers in materials science and biology due to its unique aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties and extensive conjugation systems. The luminescent characteristics of these compounds are notably influenced by the geometry of the two double bonds. Therefore, it is essential to consolidate stereoselective synthetic strategies for 1,3-dienes. This comprehensive review seeks to elucidate the diverse techniques employed to attain stereo-control in the synthesis of 1,3-diene-based AIE luminogens (AIEgens). Particular emphasis is placed on comprehending the determinants of stereoselectivity and exploring the array of substrates amenable to these methods. Furthermore, the review underscores the AIE properties exhibited by these compounds and their extensive utility in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), stimuli-responsive materials, sensors, bioimaging, and photodynamic therapy (PDT).

Synthesis and Transformation of Bis(silyl)-Substituted Conjugated Vinylallene Compounds

We develop a copper-catalyzed disilylation of polysubstituted pent-1-en-4-yn-3-yl acetate derivatives, which in one pot furnishes the bis(silyl)-substituted vinylallenes in moderate yields under mild reaction conditions. The reaction shows broad substrate scope and single stereoselectivity. Besides, we develop a method to decrease the electrocyclization temperature of vinylallenes for the synthesis of methylenecyclobutenes by installing bis(silyl) substituents. And the effect of a silyl substituent on electrocyclization of vinylallenes was studied via DFT computation. The synthetic method features broad substrate scope and excellent stereoselectivity.

Regio- and enantioselective CuH-catalyzed 1,2- and 1,4-hydrosilylation of 1,3-enynes

We report a copper-catalyzed ligand-controlled selective 1,2- and 1,4-hydrosilylation of 1,3-enynes, which furnishes enantiomerically enriched propargyl- and 1,2-allenylsilane products in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee). This reaction proceeds under mild conditions, shows broad substrate scope for both 1,3-enynes and trihydrosilanes, and displays excellent regioselectivities. Mechanistic studies based on deuterium-labeling reactions and density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that allenylcopper is the dominant reactive intermediate under both 1,2- and 1,4-hydrosilylation conditions, and it undergoes metathesis with silanes via selective four-membered or six-membered transition state, depending on the nature of the ligand. The weak interactions between the ligands and the reacting partners are found to be the key controlling factor for the observed regioselectivity switch. The origin of high enantiocontrol in the 1,4-hydrosilylation is also revealed by high level DLPNO-CCSD(T) calculations.

Hydrosilylation of Terminal Alkynes Catalyzed by an Air-Stable Manganese-NHC Complex

In recent years, catalysis with base metal manganese has received a significant amount of interest. Catalysis with manganese complexes having N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) is relatively underdeveloped in comparison to the extensively investigated manganese catalysts possessing pincer ligands (particularly phosphine-based ligands). Herein, we describe the synthesis of two imidazolium salts decorated with picolyl arms (L₁ and L₂) as NHC precursors. Facile coordination of L₁ and L₂ with MnBr(CO)₅ in the presence of a base resulted in the formation manganese(I)-NHC complexes (1 and 2) as an air-stable solid in good isolated yield. Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed the structure of the cationic complexes [Mn(CO)₃(NHC)][PF₆] with tridentate N,C,N binding of the NHC ligand in a facile fashion. Along with a few known manganese(I) complexes, these Mn(I)-NHC complexes 1 and 2 were tested for the hydrosilylation of terminal alkynes. Complex 1 was proved to be an effective catalyst for the hydrosilylation of terminal alkynes with good selectivity toward the less thermodynamically stable β-(Z)-vinylsilanes. This method provided good regioselectivity (anti-Markovnikov addition) and stereoselectivity (β-(Z)-product). Experimental evidence suggested that the present hydrosilylation pathway involved an organometallic mechanism with manganese(I)-silyl species as a possible reactive intermediate.

Three-Component Perfluoroalkylvinylation of Alkenes Enabled by Dual DBU/Fe Catalysis

Herein, a simple and efficient strategy that involves dual 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU)/iron-catalyzed alkene perfluoroalkylvinylation by using perfluoroalkyl iodides and 2-aminonaphthalene-1,4-diones as coupling partners is demonstrated. In terms of the developed catalytic system, various styrenes and aliphatic alkenes are well-tolerated, leading to the accurate preparation of perfluoroalkyl-containing 2-aminonaphthalene-1,4-diones in excellent regioselectivity. Moreover, the protocol can be readily applied in late-stage modifications of natural products and pharmaceuticals. The title reactions are featured by easily accessible and inexpensive catalysts and substrates, broad substrate applicability, and mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic investigations reveal a tandem C-I cleavable alkylation and C-C vinylation enabled by cooperative DBU/iron catalysis.

Iron-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling of α-Allenyl Esters with Grignard Reagents for the Synthesis of 1,3-Dienes

Structurally diverse 1,3-dienes are valuable building blocks in organic synthesis. Herein we report the iron-catalyzed coupling between α-allenyl esters and Grignard reagents, which provides a fast and practical approach to a variety of complex substituted 1,3-dienes. The reaction involves an inexpensive iron catalyst, mild reaction conditions, and provides easy scale up.

Cobalt-Catalyzed Sequential Site- and Stereoselective Hydrosilylation of 1,3- and 1,4-Enynes

Catalytic sequential hydrosilylation of 1,3-enynes and 1,4-enynes promoted by cobalt complexes derived from bisphosphines are presented. Site- and stereoselective Si-H addition of primary silanes to 1,3-enynes followed by sequential intramolecular diastereo- and enantioselective Si-H addition afforded enantioenriched cyclic alkenylsilanes with simultaneous construction of a carbon-stereogenic center and a silicon-stereogenic center. Reactions of 1,4-enynes proceeded through sequential isomerization of the alkene moiety followed by site- and stereoselective hydrosilylation. A wide range of alkenylsilanes were afforded in high efficiency and selectivity. Functionalization of the enantioenriched silanes containing a stereogenic center at silicon delivered a variety of chiral building blocks that are otherwise difficult to access.

Nickel-catalyzed cascade hydrosilylation/cyclization of 1,7-enynes leading to silyl-containing quinolinones

In this paper, we disclose a nickel-catalyzed cascade hydrosilylation/cyclization reaction of 1,7-enynes with bulky silanes. The reaction features excellent chemoselectivity, broad functional group tolerance, and mild reaction conditions.

Base Metal-terpyridine Complex Immobilized on Stationary Phase Aimed as Reusable Hydrosilylation Catalyst

The catalytic activity of a base metal-terpyridine complex immobilized on silica gel (M(tpy)X₂ @SiO₂ /H₂ O: M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu; X=Cl, Br) for hydrosilylation was investigated. Co(tpy)Br₂ @SiO₂ /H₂ O in the presence of NaBHEt₃ exhibited the highest catalytic activity for hydrosilylation of 1-octene with diphenylsilane (Ph₂ SiH₂ ) to form the anti-Markovnikov-type hydrosilylation compound as the main product. The reusability of Co(tpy)Br₂ @SiO₂ /H₂ O activated by NaBHEt₃ was examined. It was found that the catalytic activity decreased with repeated use because of the peeling off of the Co complex anchor portion from the silica gel surface upon the attack of NaBHEt₃ . The introduction of Co(OAc)₂ instead of CoBr₂ to silica gel formed Co(tpy)(OAc)₂ - and Co(tpy)(OH)₂ -immobilized silica gel, which exhibited catalytic activity for the hydrosilylation in the absence of an activator such as NaBHEt₃ . The glassware in which Co(tpy)(OH)₂ was immobilized on the inner wall was prepared. It was found that the hydrosilylation catalytically occurred on the surface of a pretreated glassware and that the catalytic activity did not decrease even after 10 repeated uses.

Rare-Earth-Catalyzed Selective 1,4-Hydrosilylation of Branched 1,3-Enynes Giving Tetrasubstituted Silylallenes

Allenes are versatile synthons in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry because of their diverse reactivities. Catalytic 1,4-hydrosilylation of 1,3-enynes may present the straightforward strategy for synthesis of silylallenes. However, the transition-metal-catalyzed reaction has not been successful due to poor selectivity and very limited substrate scopes. We report here the efficient and selective 1,4-hydrosilylation of branched 1,3-enynes enabled by the ene-diamido rare-earth ate catalysts using both alkyl and aryl hydrosilanes, leading to the exclusive formation of tetrasubstituted silylallenes. Deuteration reaction, kinetic study, and DFT calculations were conducted to investigate the possible mechanism, revealing crucial roles of high Lewis acidity, large ionic radius, and ate structure of the rare-earth catalysts.
