Abstract
Conceptual density functional theory (CDFT) and the quantum reactivity descriptors stemming from it have proven to be valuable tools for understanding the chemical behavior of molecules. This article is presented as being intrinsically of dual character. In a first part, it briefly reviews, in a deliberately didactical way, the main ensembles in CDFT, while the second half presents two additional ensembles, where the chemical hardness acts as a natural variable, and their respective reactivity descriptors. The evaluation of these reactivity descriptors on common organic chemical reagents are presented and discussed.

Abstract
Based on a multitarget approach implementing rivastigmine-INDY hybrids 1, we identified a set of pseudo-irreversible carbamate-type inhibitors of eqBuChE that, after carbamate transfer at the active site serine residue, released the corresponding INDY analogues 2 endowed with hDYRK1A/hCLK1 kinases inhibitory properties. A SAR study and molecular docking investigation of both series of compounds 1 and 2 revealed that appropriate structural modifications at the carbamate moiety and at the N-appendage of the benzothiazole core led to potent and selective eqBuChE inhibitors with IC50 up to 27 nM and potent hDYRK1A and hCLK1 inhibitors with IC50 up to 106 nM and 17 nM respectively. Pleasingly, identification of the matched pair of compounds 1b/2b with a good balance between inhibition of eqBuChE and hDYRK1A/hCLK1 kinases (IC50 = 68 nM and IC50 = 529/54 nM, respectively) further validated our multitarget approach based on a sequential mechanism of action. In addition, target compound 1b exhibited a suitable ADMET profile, including good brain permeability and high stability in PBS, encouraging further biological investigation as a drug candidate.

Abstract
Researchers and clinicians have long used meaningful intransitive (i.e., not tool-related; MFI) gestures to assess apraxia-a complex and frequent motor-cognitive disorder. Nevertheless, the neurocognitive bases of these gestures remain incompletely understood. Models of apraxia have assumed that meaningful intransitive gestures depend on either long-term memory (i.e., semantic memory and action lexicons) stored in the left hemisphere, or social cognition and the right hemisphere. This meta-analysis of 42 studies reports the performance of 2659 patients with either left or right hemisphere damage in tests of meaningful intransitive gestures, as compared to other gestures (i.e., MFT or meaningful transitive and MLI or meaningless intransitive) and cognitive tests. The key findings are as follows: (1) deficits of meaningful intransitive gestures are more frequent and severe after left than right hemisphere lesions, but they have been reported in both groups; (2) we found a transitivity effect in patients with lesions of the left hemisphere (i.e., meaningful transitive gestures more difficult than meaningful intransitive gestures) but a "reverse" transitivity effect in patients with lesions of the right hemisphere (i.e., meaningful transitive gestures easier than meaningful intransitive gestures); (3) there is a strong association between meaningful intransitive and transitive (but not meaningless) gestures; (4) isolated deficits of meaningful intransitive gestures are more frequent in cases with right than left hemisphere lesions; (5) these deficits may occur in the absence of language and semantic memory impairments; (6) meaningful intransitive gesture performance seems to vary according to the emotional content of gestures (i.e., body-centered gestures and emotional valence-intensity). These findings are partially consistent with the social cognition hypothesis. Methodological recommendations are given for future studies.

Abstract
Tissue-plasminogen activator (tPA) is a serine protease well known for its fibrinolytic function. Recent studies indicate that tPA could also modulate inflammation via plasmin generation and/or by receptor mediated signalling in vitro. However, the contribution of tPA in inflammatory processes in vivo has not been fully addressed. Therefore, using tPA-deficient mice, we have analysed the effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge on the phenotype of myeloid cells including neutrophils, macrophages and dendritic cells (DCs) in spleen. We found that LPS treatment upregulated the frequency of major histocompatibility class two (MHCII+) macrophages but also, paradoxically, induced a deep downregulation of MHCII molecule level on macrophages and on conventional dendritic cells 2 (cDC2). Expression level of the CD11b integrin, known as a tPA receptor, was upregulated by LPS on MHCII+ macrophages and cDC2, suggesting that tPA effects could be amplified during inflammation. In tPA-/- mice under inflammatory conditions, expression of costimulatory CD86 molecules on MHCII+ macrophages was decreased compared to WT mice, while in steady state the expression of MHCII molecules was higher on macrophages. Finally, we reported that tPA deficiency slightly modified the phenotype of DCs and T cells in acute inflammatory conditions. Overall, our findings indicate that in vivo, LPS injection had an unexpectedly bimodal effect on MHCII expression on macrophages and DCs that consequently might affect adaptive immunity. tPA could also participate in the regulation of the T cell response by modulating the levels of CD86 and MHCII molecules on macrophages.

Abstract
The occupational exposure of caregivers to antineoplastic agents has been demonstrated since 1979. Since the early 1990s, numerous studies from several countries have demonstrated the contamination of care facilities by antineoplastic drugs. As it is easier to sample, most contamination measurements in workers are carried out in urine sample. The distribution and elimination half-lives of irinotecan suggest that blood can be considered as better than urine for the biomonitoring of a potential contamination of healthcare workers. We describe here the development and the validation of a UHPLC-MS/MS method to simultaneously quantify irinotecan, and two of its main metabolites, APC and SN-38, at ultra-trace levels in plasma and red blood cells (RBC). This method has been applied to blood samples collected from several healthcare services in a French comprehensive cancer center. The results demonstrate that the method is sensitive enough to identify a contamination of healthcare workers by irinotecan and SN-38 at very low concentrations. Moreover, the results show that analysis of RBC is of great interest and complementary to that of serum.

Abstract
In this study, we discuss the removal of fluoride from water through column adsorption methods using Al(OH)3@AC as a functional granular activated carbon. The height of the bed, fluoride concentration, and flow rate are the experimental factors used to obtain the breakthrough curves. As the flow rate increased, the breakthrough and saturation times decreased. The analysis of simplified column models, such as the Adams-Bohart, Thomas, and Yoon-Nelson models, revealed that the Clark model best described the adsorption process when fitting the experimental data. The obtained breakthrough curves agreed with the corresponding experimental data. The highest capacity for adsorption obtained during the column procedure was found to be 41.84 mg g-1 with a bed height of 3 cm, an initial fluoride concentration of 10 mg L-1 and a flow rate of 7.5 mL min-1.

Abstract
The emergence of multi-drug resistant pathogens is a major public health problem, leading us to rethink and innovate our bacterial control strategies. Here, we explore the antibiofilm and antivirulence activities of nineteen 6-polyaminosterol derivatives (squalamine-based), presenting a modulation of their polyamine side chain on four major pathogens, i.e., carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii (CRAB) and P. aeruginosa (CRPA), methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), and vancomycin-resistant E. faecium (VRE) strains. We screened the effect of these derivatives on biofilm formation and eradication. Derivatives 4e (for CRAB, VRE, and MRSA) and 4f (for all the strains) were the most potent ones and displayed activities as good as those of conventional antibiotics. We also identified 11 compounds able to decrease by more than 40% the production of pyocyanin, a major virulence factor of P. aeruginosa. We demonstrated that 4f treatment acts against bacterial infections in Galleria mellonella and significantly prolonged larvae survival (from 50% to 80%) after 24 h of CRAB, VRE, and MRSA infections. As shown by proteomic studies, 4f triggered distinct cellular responses depending on the bacterial species but essentially linked to cell envelope. Its interesting antibiofilm and antivirulence properties make it a promising a candidate for use in therapeutics.

Abstract
Children undergoing cancer treatments are at risk for impaired fertility. Cryopreserved prepubertal testicular biopsies could theoretically be later matured in vitro to produce spermatozoa for assisted reproductive technology. A complete in vitro spermatogenesis has been obtained from mouse prepubertal testicular tissue, although with low efficiency. Steroid hormones are essential for the progression of spermatogenesis, the aim of this study was to investigate steroidogenesis and steroid signaling in organotypic cultures. Histological, RT-qPCR, western blot analyses, and steroid hormone measurements were performed on in vitro cultured mouse prepubertal testicular tissues and age-matched in vivo controls. Despite a conserved density of Leydig cells after 30 days of culture (D30), transcript levels of adult Leydig cells and steroidogenic markers were decreased. Increased amounts of progesterone and estradiol and reduced androstenedione levels were observed at D30, together with decreased transcript levels of steroid metabolizing genes and steroid target genes. hCG was insufficient to facilitate Leydig cell differentiation, restore steroidogenesis, and improve sperm yield. In conclusion, this study reports the failure of adult Leydig cell development and altered steroid production and signaling in tissue cultures. The organotypic culture system will need to be further improved before it can be translated into clinics for childhood cancer survivors.

Abstract
There is a great deal of indirect evidence suggesting that people with facial difference (FD) may be dehumanized. This research aimed to provide direct evidence of the dehumanization of people with FD based on the stigmatizing reactions they elicit. More precisely, previous findings revealed that the specific way people with FD are looked upon is related to the feelings of disgust they elicit. Since disgust fosters dehumanization, our aim was to confirm the modified pattern of visual attention towards people with FD and to determine whether it was also related to humanness perception. For that purpose, a preregistered eye-tracking study (N = 97) using a former experimental design extended to humanity attributions was conducted. This research replicates findings showing that the face of people with FD is explored differently in comparison with other human faces. However, the hypothesis that people with FD were given fewer humanity attributions was not supported. Therefore, the hypothesis of a "dehumanizing gaze" towards people with FD-beyond humanity-related attributions-is discussed in light of these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many patients treated for breast cancer (BC) complain about cognitive difficulties affecting their daily lives. Recently, sleep disturbances and circadian rhythm disruptions have been brought to the fore as potential contributors to cognitive difficulties in patients with BC. Yet, studies on these factors as well as their neural correlates are scarce. The purpose of the ICANSLEEP-1 (Impact of SLEEP disturbances in CANcer) study is to characterize sleep using polysomnography and its relationship with the evolution of cognitive functioning at both the behavioral and the neuroanatomical levels across treatment in BC patients treated or not with adjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS ICANSLEEP-1 is a longitudinal study including BC patients treated with adjuvant chemotherapy (n = 25) or not treated with adjuvant chemotherapy (n = 25) and healthy controls with no history of BC (n = 25) matched for age (45-65 years old) and education level. The evaluations will take place within 6 weeks after inclusion, before the initiation of chemotherapy (for BC patients who are candidates for chemotherapy) or before the first fraction of radiotherapy (for BC patients with no indication for chemotherapy) and 6 months later (corresponding to 2 weeks after the end of chemotherapy). Episodic memory, executive functions, psychological factors, and quality of life will be assessed with validated neuropsychological tests and self-questionnaires. Sleep quantity and quality will be assessed with polysomnography and circadian rhythms with both actigraphy and saliva cortisol. Grey and white matter volumes, as well as white matter microstructural integrity, will be compared across time between patients and controls and will serve to further investigate the relationship between sleep disturbances and cognitive decline. DISCUSSION Our results will help patients and clinicians to better understand sleep disturbances in BC and their relationship with cognitive functioning across treatment. This will aid the identification of more appropriate sleep therapeutic approaches adapted to BC patients. Improving sleep in BC would eventually help limit cognitive deficits and thus improve quality of life during and after treatments. TRIAL REGISTRATION NCT05414357, registered June 10, 2022. Abstract
The castration of stallions is traditionally performed after puberty, at around the age of 2 years old. No studies have focused on the effects of early castration on osteoarticular metabolism. Thus, we aimed to compare early castration (3 days after birth) with traditional castration (18 months of age) in horses. Testosterone and estradiol levels were monitored from birth to 33 months in both groups. We quantified the levels of biomarkers of cartilage and bone anabolism (CPII and N-MID) and catabolism (CTX-I and CTX-II), as well as of osteoarthritis (HA and COMP) and inflammation (IL-6 and PGE2). We observed a lack of parallelism between testosterone and estradiol synthesis after birth and during puberty in both groups. The extra-gonadal synthesis of steroids was observed around the 28-month mark, regardless of the castration age. We found the expression of estrogen receptor (ESR1) in cartilage and bone, whereas androgen receptor (AR) expression appeared to be restricted to bone. Nevertheless, with respect to osteoarticular metabolism, steroid hormone deprivation resulting from early castration had no discernable impact on the levels of biomarkers related to bone and cartilage metabolism, nor on those associated with OA and inflammation. Consequently, our research demonstrated that early castration does not disrupt bone and cartilage homeostasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Brain metastases (BM) are the most frequent malignant brain tumors. The aim of this study was to characterize the tumor microenvironment (TME) of BM and particularly hypoxia and redox state, known to play a role in tumor growth and treatment resistance with multimodal PET and MRI imaging, immunohistochemical and proteomic approaches in a human lung cancer (H2030-BrM3)-derived BM model in rats. RESULTS First, in vitro studies confirmed that H2030-BrM3 cells respond to hypoxia with increasing expression of HIF-1, HIF-2 and their target genes. Proteomic analyses revealed, among expression changes, proteins associated with metabolism, oxidative stress, metal response and hypoxia signaling in particular in cortical BM. [64Cu][Cu(ATSM)] PET revealed a significant uptake by cortical BM (p < 0.01), while no uptake is observed in striatal BM 23 days after tumor implantation. Pimonidazole, HIF-1α, HIF-2α, CA-IX as well as GFAP, CTR1 and DMT1 immunostainings are positive in both BM. CONCLUSION Overall, [64Cu][Cu(ATSM)] imaging and proteomic results showed the presence of hypoxia and protein expression changes linked to hypoxia and oxidative stress in BM, which are more pronounced in cortical BM compared to striatal BM. Moreover, it emphasized the interest of [64Cu][Cu(ATSM)] PET to characterize TME of BM and depict inter-metastasis heterogeneity that could be useful to guide treatments.

Abstract
Root exudation is involved in the recruitment of beneficial microorganisms by trophic relationships and/or signalling pathways. Among beneficial microorganisms, Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) are known to improve plant growth and stress resistance. These interactions are of particular importance for species that do not interact with mycorrhizal fungi, such as rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) and camelina (Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz). However, heat stress is known to have a quantitative and qualitative impact on root exudation and could affect the interactions between plants and PGPR. We aimed to analyse the effects of PGPR inoculation on root morphology and exudation in rapeseed and camelina at the reproductive stage. The modulation of the effects of these interactions under heat stress was also investigated. The plants were inoculated twice at the reproductive stage with two different Pseudomonas species and were exposed to heat stress after the second inoculation. In non-stressing conditions, after bacterial inoculation, rapeseed and camelina exhibited two contrasting behaviours in C root allocation. While rapeseed plants seemed to suffer from the interactions with the bacteria, camelina plants appeared to control the relationship with the PGPR by modifying the composition of their root exudates. Under heat stress, the plant-PGPR interaction was unbalanced for rapeseed, for which the C allocation strategy is mainly driven by the C cost from the bacteria. Alternatively, camelina plants prioritized C allocation for their own above-ground development. This work opens up new perspectives for understanding plant-PGPR interactions, especially in an abiotic stress context.

Abstract
Due to their high versatility borylated and silylated compounds are inevitable synthons for organic chemists. To escape the classical hydroboration/hydrosilylation paradigm, chemists turned their attention to more modern and green methods such as photoredox chemistry and electrosynthesis. This account focuses on novel methods for the generation of boryl and silyl radicals to forge C-B and C-Si bonds from our group.

Abstract
A well-known phenomenon for the study of movement planning is the end-state comfort (ESC) effect: When they reach and grasp tools, individuals tend to adopt uncomfortable initial hand postures if that allows a subsequent comfortable final posture. In the context of tool use, this effect is modulated by tool orientation, task goal, and cooperation. However, the cognitive bases of the ESC effect remain unclear. The goal of this study was to determine the contribution of semantic tool knowledge and technical reasoning to movement planning, by testing whether the ESC effect typically observed with familiar tools would also be observed with novel tools. Twenty-six participants were asked to reach and grasp familiar and novel tools under varying conditions (i.e., tool's handle downward vs. upward; tool transport vs. use; solo vs. cooperation). In our findings, the effects of tool orientation, task goal and cooperation were replicated with novel tools. It follows that semantic tool knowledge is not critical for the ESC effect to occur. In fact, we found an "habitual" effect: Participant adopted uncomfortable grips with familiar tools even when it was not necessary (i.e., to transport them), probably because of the interference of habitual movement programming with actual movement programming. A cognitive view of movement planning is proposed, according to which goal comprehension (1) may rely on semantic tool knowledge, technical reasoning, and/or social skills, (2) defines end-state configuration, which in turn (3) calibrates beginning-state comfort and hence the occurrence of the ESC effect.

Abstract
The identification of several fructan exohydrolases (FEHs, EC 3.2.1.80) in non-fructan accumulating plants raised the question of their roles. FEHs may be defense-related proteins involved in the interactions with fructan-accumulating microorganisms. Since known defense-related proteins are upregulated by defense-related phytohormones, we tested the hypothesis that FEHs of non-fructan accumulating plants are upregulated by salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA) and ethylene (ET) using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and the agronomically relevant and genetically related species Brassica napus. By sequence homologies with the two known FEH genes of A. thaliana, At6-FEH, and At6&1-FEH, the genes coding for the putative B. napus FEHs, Bn6-FEH and Bn6&1-FEH, were identified. Plants were treated at root level with SA, methyl jasmonate (MeJA) or 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC). The transcript levels of defense-related and FEH genes were measured after treatments. MeJA and ACC did not upregulate FEHs, while HEL (HEVEIN-LIKE PREPROTEIN) expression was enhanced by both phytohormones. In both species, the expression of AOS, encoding a JA biosynthesis enzyme, was enhanced by MeJA and that of the defensine PDF1.2 and the ET signaling transcription factor ERF1/2 by ACC. In contrast, SA not only increased the expression of genes encoding antimicrobial proteins (PR1 and HEL) and the defense-related transcription factor WRKY70 but also that of FEH genes, in particular 6&1-FEH genes. This result supports the putative role of FEHs as defense-related proteins. Genotypic variability of SA-mediated FEH regulation (transcript level and activities) was observed among five varieties of B. napus, suggesting different susceptibilities toward fructan-accumulating pathogens.

Abstract
Insomnia symptoms are common among patients with breast cancer (BC; 20-70%) and are predictors of cancer progression and quality of life. Studies have highlighted sleep structure modifications, including increased awakenings and reduced sleep efficiency and total sleep time. Such modifications may result from circadian rhythm alterations consistently reported in this pathology and known as carcinogenic factors, including lower melatonin levels, a flattened diurnal cortisol pattern, and lower rest-activity rhythm amplitude and robustness. Cognitive behavioral therapy and physical activity are the most commonly used non-pharmacological interventions to counter insomnia difficulties in patients with BC. However, their effects on sleep structure remain unclear. Moreover, such approaches may be difficult to implement shortly after chemotherapy. Innovatively, vestibular stimulation would be particularly suited to tackling insomnia symptoms. Indeed, recent reports have shown that vestibular stimulation could resynchronize circadian rhythms and improve deep sleep in healthy volunteers. Moreover, vestibular dysfunction has been reported following chemotherapy. This perspective paper aims to support the evidence of using galvanic vestibular stimulation to resynchronize circadian rhythms and reduce insomnia symptoms in patients with BC, with beneficial effects on quality of life and, potentially, survival.

Abstract
A series of 1,3-oxazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidine and 1,3-oxazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized and functionalized in this study. The obtained compounds were tested against breast cancer cell lines of the NCI subpanel, followed by further analysis using the COMPARE algorithm from the Therapeutics Development Program, NCI. All synthesized derivatives displayed activity against most cell lines in the range of micromolar concentrations in terms of all parameters studied. Oxazolopyrimidine 5 exhibited the highest antitumor activity. A standard COMPARE analysis of the compounds showed that the vectors of the cytotoxic activity of derivatives 10 and 11 displayed a close to very high correlation with tamoxifen, and oxazolopyrimidine 13 displayed a very high correlation with the same drug. Five derivatives (2, 4, 6, 11 and 13) showed a high correlation with aclacinomycin A in the TGI vector. At the same time, compound 1 effectively suppressed ADK in cultured MDA-MB 231 cell lines, indicating that ADK is one of its targets through which it exerts anticancer properties. Based on molecular docking results, the possible binding mode of oxazolopyrimidine 1 to ADK has been suggested.

Abstract
Intense human activities have for years contributed to the pollution of the environment by many dangerous pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides, or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. There are many conventional methods used to control pollution, with practical and/or financial drawbacks. Therefore, in recent years, an innovative, easy-to-implement and inexpensive adsorption method has been developed to recover waste and clean up water from micropollutants. Firstly, this article aims to summarize the issues related to water remediation and to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the methods classically used to purify water. In particular, this review aims to provide a recent update of the bio-based adsorbents and their use. Differently from the majority of the reviews related to wastewater treatment, in this article several classes of pollutants are considered. Then, a discussion about the adsorption process and interactions involved is provided. Finally, perspectives are suggested about the future work to be done in this field.

Abstract
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a multifactorial intestinal disorder, is often associated with a disruption in intestinal permeability as well as an increased expression of pro-inflammatory markers. The aim of this study was to first test the impact of treatment with glutamine (Gln), a food supplement containing natural curcumin extracts and polyunsaturated n-3 fatty acids (Cur); bioactive peptides from a fish protein hydrolysate (Ga); and a probiotic mixture containing Bacillus coagulans, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus gasseri and Lactobacillus helveticus. These compounds were tested alone on a stress-based IBS model, the chronic-restraint stress model (CRS). The combination of Gln, Cur and Ga (GCG) was also tested. Eight-week-old C57Bl/6 male mice were exposed to restraint stress for two hours every day for four days and received different compounds every day one week before and during the CRS procedure. Plasma corticosterone levels were measured as a marker of stress, and colonic permeability was evaluated ex vivo in Ussing chambers. Changes in the gene expression of tight junction proteins (occludin, claudin-1 and ZO 1) and inflammatory cytokines (IL1β, TNFα, CXCL1 and IL10) were assessed using RT-qPCR. The CRS model led to an increase in plasma corticosterone and an increase in colonic permeability compared with unstressed animals. No change in plasma corticosterone concentrations was observed in response to CRS with the different treatments (Gln, Cur, Ga or GCG). Stressed animals treated with Gln, Cur and Ga alone and in combination showed a decrease in colonic permeability when compared to the CRS group, while the probiotic mixture resulted in an opposite response. The Ga treatment induced an increase in the expression of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, and the GCG treatment was able to decrease the expression of CXCL1, suggesting the synergistic effect of the combined mixture. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that a combined administration of glutamine, a food supplement containing curcumin and polyunsaturated n-3 fatty acids, and bioactive peptides from a fish hydrolysate was able to reduce colonic hyperpermeability and reduce the inflammatory marker CXCL1 in a stress-based model of IBS and could be of interest to patients suffering from IBS.

Abstract
Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) results in sleep disturbances that may have deleterious impacts on cognition, especially on memory. However, little is known about the sleep architecture in patients with Korsakoff's syndrome (KS). This study aims at characterizing sleep disturbances in KS compared to AUD without KS and at specifying the relationships with cognitive impairments. Twenty-nine AUD patients (22 without KS and 7 with KS) and 15 healthy controls underwent a neuropsychological assessment and a polysomnography. The severity of sleep-disordered breathing and sleep fragmentation was similar in AUD and KS patients compared to controls. Sleep architecture differed between both patient groups: the proportion of slow-wave sleep was reduced in AUD patients only, while a lower proportion of rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep was specifically observed in KS patients. The proportion of REM sleep correlated with the severity of episodic memory deficits when AUD and KS were examined together. These data provide evidence for both similarities and specificities regarding sleep alterations in AUD patients with and without KS. They also indicate that altered sleep architecture may contribute to the pathophysiology of alcohol-related memory disorders.

Abstract
Background Previous studies have revealed both sleep alterations and prospective memory (PM) impairments in breast cancer (BC) patients. PM refers to memory of intended actions and is crucial for daily living tasks and treatment compliance. As sleep is known to favor memory consolidation, one may expect that changes in sleep quality related to BC would have an impact on PM performance. This study aimed at assessing sleep-dependent consolidation of intentions using an ecological, virtual reality-based PM task in BC patients not treated with chemotherapy. Materials and methods Thirty-seven early stages BC patients and 21 healthy controls (HC) participated in this study. PM was assessed using a virtual reality task, during which participants learnt a list of intentions and recalled them after a retention interval filled with a day awake or a night of sleep monitored by polysomnography. Sleep spindles and slow waves, brain oscillations involved in sleep-dependent memory consolidation, were quantified automatically using the Aseega software (Physip). Subjective sleep disturbances and markers of quality of life (psychological distress, fatigue, and well-being) were assessed by questionnaires. Results Greater PM performance was observed after sleep than after an equivalent period of daytime wakefulness for both groups (HC and BC). PM performance after sleep did not differ significantly between groups. Yet, BC patients reported greater sleep disturbances than HC which were related with poorer intentions retrieval, greater psychological distress, fatigue and poorer well-being. The frequency of spindles was higher and the amplitude of slow waves lower in BC patients compared to HC. However, no significant association was observed between polysomnography parameters and PM scores in the whole sample of participants. Conclusion Although subtle changes in brain oscillations involved in sleep-dependent memory consolidation were observed, these changes did not significantly impair overnight PM consolidation in BC patients. Nevertheless, poorer PM performance was associated with greater sleep complaints which in turn were related to poorer quality of life. Overall, these data suggest that sleep-dependent PM consolidation mechanisms are not altered in early stages BC patients not treated with chemotherapy. Further investigations are needed to understand the association between markers of quality of life and sleep-dependent memory consolidation.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful tool for non-invasive, high-resolution three-dimensional medical imaging of anatomical structures such as organs and tissues. The use of contrast agents based on gadolinium chelates started in 1988 to improve the quality of the image, since researchers and industry focused their attention on the development of more efficient and stable structures. This review is about the state of the art of MRI contrast agents based on cyclodextrin scaffolds. Chemical engineering strategies are herein reported including host-guest inclusion complexation and covalent linkages. It also offers descriptions of the MRI properties and in vitro and in vivo biomedical applications of these emerging macrostructures. It highlights that these supramolecular associations can improve the image contrast, the sensitivity, and the efficiency of MRI diagnosis by targeting cancer tumors and other diseases with success proving the great potential of this natural macrocycle.

Abstract
Hyaluronic acid (HA) of different molar masses (respectively 38,000, 140,000 and 1,200,000 g.mol-1) have been functionalized with a commercial poly(etheramine), Jeffamine® M2005, in order to devise physical thermo-responsive hydrogels. Two routes have been studied, involving the use of either water for the first one or of N,N'-Dimethylformamide (DMF), a polar aprotic solvent, for the second one. In the case of the water route, the reaction was performed using a mixture of N-(3-Dimethylaminopropyl)-N'-ethylcarbodiimide (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) as coupling reagents. The reaction was optimized while making sure no free M2005 remained in the final material, leading to M2005 grafting degrees of about 4%, which enabled the formation of hydrogels by increasing the temperature. In the case of the organic solvent route, propylphosphonic anhydride T3P® was used as a coupling reagent in DMF, resulting in a M2005 grafting degree of around 8% with better thermo-responsive properties of HA-g-M2005 compared to those obtained when the reaction was performed in water. However, the reaction systematically led to covalent cross-linking in the case of the HA, with the highest starting molar masses resulting in a very different rheological behaviour and with higher gel strength retaining thermo-responsive behaviour but being only poorly soluble in water.

Abstract
Aldosterone plays a major role in atrial structural and electrical remodeling, in particular through Ca2+-transient perturbations and shortening of the action potential. The Ca2+-activated non-selective cation channel Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 4 (TRPM4) participates in atrial action potential. The aim of our study was to elucidate the interactions between aldosterone and TRPM4 in atrial remodeling and arrhythmias susceptibility. Hyperaldosteronemia, combined with a high salt diet, was induced in mice by subcutaneously implanted osmotic pumps during 4 weeks, delivering aldosterone or physiological serum for control animals. The experiments were conducted in wild type animals (Trpm4+/+) as well as Trpm4 knock-out animals (Trpm4-/-). The atrial diameter measured by echocardiography was higher in Trpm4-/- compared to Trpm4+/+ animals, and hyperaldosteronemia-salt produced a dilatation in both groups. Action potentials duration and triggered arrhythmias were measured using intracellular microelectrodes on the isolated left atrium. Hyperaldosteronemia-salt prolong action potential in Trpm4-/- mice but had no effect on Trpm4+/+ mice. In the control group (no aldosterone-salt treatment), no triggered arrythmias were recorded in Trpm4+/+ mice, but a high level was detected in Trpm4-/- mice. Hyperaldosteronemia-salt enhanced the occurrence of arrhythmias (early as well as delayed-afterdepolarization) in Trpm4+/+ mice but decreased it in Trpm4-/- animals. Atrial connexin43 immunolabelling indicated their disorganization at the intercalated disks and a redistribution at the lateral side induced by hyperaldosteronemia-salt but also by Trpm4 disruption. In addition, hyperaldosteronemia-salt produced pronounced atrial endothelial thickening in both groups. Altogether, our results indicated that hyperaldosteronemia-salt and TRPM4 participate in atrial electrical and structural remodeling. It appears that TRPM4 is involved in aldosterone-induced atrial action potential shortening. In addition, TRPM4 may promote aldosterone-induced atrial arrhythmias, however, the underlying mechanisms remain to be explored.

Abstract
The strong interplay between magnetism and transport can tune the thermoelectric properties in chalcogenides and oxides. In the case of ferromagnetic CoS2 pyrite, it was previously shown that the power factor is large at room temperature, reaching 1 mW m-1 K-2 and abruptly increases for temperatures below the Curie transition ( TC), an increase potentially due to a magnonic effect on the Seebeck ( S) coefficient. The too large thermal conductivity approximately equal to 10.5 W m-1 K-1 at room temperature prevents this pyrite from being a good thermoelectric material. In this work, samples belonging to the Co1- xFe xS2 pyrite family ( x = 0, 0.15 and 0.30) have thus been investigated in order to modify the thermal properties by the introduction of disorder on the Co site. We show here that the thermal conductivity can indeed be reduced by such a substitution, but that this substitution predominantly induces a reduction of the electronic part of the thermal conductivity and not of the lattice part. Interestingly, the magnonic contribution to S below TC disappears as x increases, while at high T, S tends to a very similar value (close to -42 µV K-1) for all the samples investigated. Abstract
BACKGROUND During sexual reproduction, pollen grains land on the stigma, rehydrate and produce pollen tubes that grow through the female transmitting-tract tissue allowing the delivery of the two sperm cells to the ovule and the production of healthy seeds. Because pollen tubes are single cells that expand by tip-polarized growth, they represent a good model to study the growth dynamics, cell wall deposition and intracellular machineries. Aiming to understand this complex machinery, we used a low throughput chemical screen approach in order to isolate new tip-growth disruptors. The effect of a chemical inhibitor of monogalactosyldiacylglycerol synthases, galvestine-1, was also investigated. The present work further characterizes their effects on the tip-growth and intracellular dynamics of pollen tubes. RESULTS Two small compounds among 258 were isolated based on their abilities to perturb pollen tube growth. They were found to disrupt in vitro pollen tube growth of tobacco, tomato and Arabidopsis thaliana. We show that these 3 compounds induced abnormal phenotypes (bulging and/or enlarged pollen tubes) and reduced pollen tube length in a dose dependent manner. Pollen germination was significantly reduced after treatment with the two compounds isolated from the screen. They also affected cell wall material deposition in pollen tubes. The compounds decreased anion superoxide accumulation, disorganized actin filaments and RIC4 dynamics suggesting that they may affect vesicular trafficking at the pollen tube tip. CONCLUSION These molecules may alter directly or indirectly ROP1 activity, a key regulator of pollen tube growth and vesicular trafficking and therefore represent good tools to further study cellular dynamics during polarized-cell growth.
