Abstract
Asymmetric diboration of terminal alkenes is well established, and subsequent selective functionalization of the less hindered primary boronic ester is commonly achieved. Conversely, selective functionalization of the sterically less accessible secondary boronic ester remains challenging. An alternative way to control chemoselective functionalization of bis(boron) compounds is by engendering different Lewis acidity to the two boryl moieties, since reactivity would then be dictated by Lewis acidity instead of sterics. We report herein the regio- and enantioselective Pt-catalyzed diboration of unactivated alkenes with (pin)B-B(dan). A broad range of terminal and cyclic alkenes undergo diboration to furnish the differentiable 1,2-bis(boron) compounds with high levels of regio- and enantiocontrol, giving access to a wide variety of novel building blocks from a common intermediate. The reaction places the less Lewis acidic B(dan) group at the less hindered position and the resulting 1,2-bisboryl alkanes undergo selective transformations of the B(pin) group located at the more hindered position. The regioselectivity of the diboration has been studied by DFT calculations and is believed to originate from the trans influence, which lowers the activation barrier for formation of the regioisomer that places the weaker electron donor [B(pin) vs B(dan)] opposite the strong electron donor (alkyl group) in the platinum complex.

Abstract
Comprehensive SummaryOrganoborons are commonly used building blocks for rapidly increasing molecular complexity. Although significant progress has been made in the selective functionalization of mono‐organoborons, the site‐selective functionalization of poly(organoborons) has attracted substantial interest in organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals due to the presence of multiple potential reaction sites. This review discusses various activation modes of the target C–B bond, with diverse transformations being achieved in both a selective and efficient manner. Recent advances in the catalytic selective transformations of 1,n‐diboronates through ionic and radical pathways are highlighted. Furthermore, we summarize the existing challenges and future research directions in this field.
Key ScientistsIn 1993, Suzuki, Miyaura and coworkers developed a pioneering example of selective arylation towards cis‐1,2‐bis(boryl) alkenes, marking the inception of this field. The Morken group has made significant contributions to the asymmetric diboration of alkenes and realized elegant catalytic functionalization of these compounds since 2004. In 2016, Fernández and colleagues achieved the selective arylation of the internal C–B bond of tri(boronates). Since 2019, the Aggarwal group has developed efficient Giese‐type addition and selective arylation at the more substituted C–B bond of 1,2‐bis(boronic) esters through photoredox catalysis. The controllable regiodivergent alkynylation of 1,3‐bis(boronic) esters was developed by Gao and coworkers in 2023. Recently, Qin conducted elegant research on the programmable late‐stage functionalization of bridge‐substituted bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane (BCP) bis‐boronates. Since 2013, catalytic stereoselective transformations have been developed by several groups, including those led by Morken and Chen. This review summarizes the latest and most significant developments in this field since 1993.

Abstract
New bottromycin derivatives have been prepared using flexible Ugi and Matteson reactions. The Ugi reaction allows the fast and direct assembly of sterically hindered peptide fragments, while the Matteson homologation is excellently suited for the stereoselective synthesis of unusual amino acids like β-methylphenylalanine. Some of the new compounds show excellent activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Abstract
Diverse ranges of chiral nitrogen-containing heterocycles serve as a molecular toolbox for modulating a wide array of biological processes, but enantioenriched production of smaller chiral heterocycles is a bottleneck. There is a lack of general approaches for the stereoselective preparation of chiral 4-membered monocyclic C2-substituted azetidines, where many routes to different substitution types are possible, but no simple and common approach exists. To bridge this gap, inexpensive and widely available chiral tert-butanesulfinamides are harnessed for chiral induction with 1,3-bis-electrophilic 3-chloropropanal, providing a three-step approach to C2-substituted azetidines with aryl, vinyl, allyl, branched alkyl, and linear alkyl substituents. Eleven azetidine products are produced, and the approach is shown to be effective on a gram-scale with a single purification of the protected azetidine product in 44% yield over three steps in an 85:15 diastereomeric ratio. In most cases, the diastereomers are separable using normal phase chromatography, often resulting in previously elusive enantiopure azetidine products. Protected azetidines were shown to undergo rapid and efficient sulfinamide cleavage, producing an azetidine hydrochloride salt that was subjected to derivatization reactions, highlighting the method's applicability to medicinal chemistry approaches.

Abstract
The synthesis of benzylboronates by photochemical homologation of boronic acids with N-tosylhydrazones under basic conditions is described. The reaction involves the photolysis of the N-tosylhydrazone salt to give a diazoalkane followed by the geminal carboborylation of the diazoalkane. Under the mild reaction conditions, the protodeboronation of the unstable benzylboronic acid is circumvented and the pinacolboronates can be isolated after reaction of the benzylboronic acid with pinacol. The metholodogy has been applied to the reactions of alkylboronic acids with N-tosylhydrazones of aromatic aldehydes and ketones, and to the reactions of arylboronic acids with N-tosylhydrazones of aliphatic ketones. Moreover, the employment of the DBU/DIPEA bases combination allows for homogeneous reactions which have been adapted to photochemical continuous flow conditions. Additionally, the synthetic versatility of boronates enables their further transformation via Csp3-C or Csp3-X bond forming reactions converting this methodology into a novel method for the geminal difunctionalization of carbonyls via N-tosylhydrazones.

Abstract
The value of Matteson-type reactions has been increasingly recognized for developing automated organic synthesis. However, the typical Matteson reactions almost exclusively focus on homologation of carbon units. Here, we report the detailed development of sequential insertion of nitrogen and carbon atoms into boronate C-B bonds, which provides a modular and iterative approach to access functionalized tertiary amines. A new class of nitrenoid reagents is uncovered to allow direct formation of aminoboranes from aryl or alkyl boronates via N-insertion. The one-pot N-insertion followed by controlled mono- or double-carbenoid insertion has been realized with widely available aryl boronates. The resulting aminoalkyl boronate products can undergo further homologation and various other transformations. Preliminary success on homologation of N,N-dialkylaminoboranes and sequential N- and C-insertions with alkyl boronates have also been achieved. To broaden the synthetic utility, selective removal of a benzyl or aryl substituent permits access to secondary or primary amine products. The application of this method has been demonstrated in the modular synthesis of bioactive compounds and the programmable construction of diamines and aminoethers. A plausible reaction mechanism, supported by preliminary NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and computational studies, is also proposed.

Abstract
We report a photoinduced decarbonylative rearrangement of diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octenone in the facile synthesis of a functionalized diazabicyclo[4.1.0]heptene skeleton, a unique derivative of the hydropyridazine type structure which could be found in a variety of biologically active natural products. The scope of functional group compatibility in the photoreaction was examined by taking advantage of the easy access of the heterobicyclo[2.2.2] structure from the Diels-Alder reaction of masked o-benzoquinones. 4-Phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione served as the dienophile which provided the adjacent N-N unit in hexahydropyridazine-type products of subsequent photorearrangement.

Abstract
Photoexcitation of cyclic ketones leads to the expulsion of carbon monoxide and a mixture of products derived from diradical intermediates. Here we show that synthetic utility of this process is improved if strained heterocyclic ketones are used. Photochemistry of 3-oxetanone and N-Boc-3-azetidinone has not been previously described. Decarbonylation of these 4-membered rings proceeds through a step-wise Norrish type I cleavage of the C-C bond from the singlet excited state. Ylides derived from both compounds are high-energy species that are kinetically stable long enough to undergo [3+2] cycloaddition with a variety of alkenes and produce substituted tetrahydrofurans and pyrrolidines. The reaction has a sufficiently wide scope to produce scaffolds that were either previously inaccessible or difficult to synthesize, thereby providing experimental access to new chemical space.
