Abstract
Herein, we report a transition-metal and base-free protocol to access a wide range of functionalized indenone derivatives through a HMPA-H2O-mediated oxygenative annulation of 2-alkynylphenyl-substituted p-quinone methides. This method worked effectively for most of the p-QMs investigated and the corresponding indenone derivatives were obtained in moderate to good yields. This methodology was further extended to the formal synthesis of one of the resveratrol based natural products, (±)-isopaucifloral F.

Abstract
Herein we report the efficient and selective two-step synthesis of various 3-silyl-2-amidoindenones from easily accessible ynamides. This sequence involves a regio- and stereo-selective silylcyanation followed by a Houben-Hoesch type cyclization. Thanks to post-transformations, various 3-substituted 2-amidoindenones could be obtained.

Abstract
We describe the synthesis of a triazolyl-pyridine-based aminophosphine, N-(diphenylphosphaneyl)-6-(1-phenyl)-1H-(1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)pyridine-2-amine [2,6-{(PPh2)-N(H)(C5H3N)(C2HN3C6H5)}] [1, PN(H)N hereafter], and its palladium and platinum complexes and their catalytic application. The reaction of 1 with [M(COD)Cl2] (M = Pd or Pt) afforded the cationic complex [(MCl){PN(H)N}-κ3-P,N,N]Cl [M = Pd (2) or Pt (3)]. Alternatively, compounds 2 and 3 were also synthesized by treating [2,6-{H2N(C5H3N)(C2HN3C6H5)}] (A) with [M(COD)Cl2] (M = Pd or Pt), followed by the addition of stoichiometric amounts of PPh2Cl and Et3N. The neutral, dearomatized complexes [(MCl){PNN}-κ3-P,N,N] [M = Pd (4) or Pt (5)] were prepared by the deprotonation of the NH of 2 and 3 with 1 equiv of tBuOK. Compounds 4 and 5 were also synthesized stepwise by treating [2,6-{H2N(C5H3N)(C2HN3C6H5)}] (A) with [M(COD)Cl2] (M = Pd or Pt) to give intermediate complexes [{MCl2}2,6-{NH2(C5H3N)(C2HN3C6H5)-κ2-N,N}] [M = Pd (B) or Pt (C)], which were subsequently phosphinated. The in situ-generated PNN ligand-stabilized Pd nanoparticles from compound 2 catalyzed the annulation of o-bromobenzaldehyde with alkynes to yield indenone derivatives. Mechanistic investigations suggested that the reaction was catalyzed by Pd nanoparticles (Pd@2) generated from compound 2 and proceeded through sequential oxidative addition, alkyne insertion, and reductive elimination steps to produce indanone products.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of indeno[1,2-c]furan and 3-benzoylindenone derivatives through a FeCl3-catalyzed carbene/alkyne metathesis reaction of o-alkynylbenzoyl diazoacetates is presented. Mechanistically, the key intermediate, vinyl iron carbene, is formed by 5-exo-dig carbocyclization and terminated with a formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition or carbonylation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example in which FeCl3 is used as a catalyst for a carbene/alkyne metathesis reaction. Finally, derivatization reactions were carried out to showcase the value of the products.

Abstract
We report a solvent-directed and regioselective carbon-carbon bond cleavage of aryl ketones by azido-1,3,5-triazines (ATs), which is typically completed within 10 min in DMSO at room temperature, without using transition metal catalysts. The cleavage is driven by the steric hindrance in the adducts of aryl ketones and ATs, which is substantiated by DFT calculation. Our recent results showed that ATs present high reactivity in solution and high stability in solid state. This "stability-reactivity paradox" has been explained in light of the molecular and crystal structures of ATs.

Abstract
An environmentally benign, transition metal-free, superbase-mediated intramolecular annulation of o-alkynylaldehydes with primary amines forms highly functionalized amino-substituted cyclopentaquinolinones and cyclopentapyridinones via C-N, C-C, and C[double bond, length as m-dash]O bond formation. Contrary to the traditional approaches of ring closures, a different mode of annulation is disclosed. The protocol involves the in situ generations of imine intermediate followed by potassium hydroxide-promoted intramolecular cyclization and subsequent dimethyl sulfoxide induced dehydrogenation leads to the formation of N-heterocycles. X-ray crystallographic studies support the assigned structures of the amino-fused N-heterocycles.

Abstract
MeOTf-triggered annulation of N-(2-cyanoaryl)indoles to provide indolo[1,2-a]indol-10-imines and the corresponding indolo[1,2-a]indol-10-ones have been described under metal-free conditions. A variety of functional groups are tolerated in their scaffolds with good to excellent yields. The reaction could be carried to gram scale.

Abstract
The development of metal-free organic reactions is one of the hotspots in the synthesis of cyclic compounds. ROTf (alkyl trifluoromethanesulfonates), due to their good electrophilicity, are powerful alkylating reagents at heteroatoms such as nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur and phosphorus to induce an electrophilic centre for carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bond formation. Inspired by this chemistry, a variety of research concentrating on heterocycles synthesis has been carried out. In this review, we mainly summarize the ROTf-induced annulation of heteroatom reagents such as nitriles, carbodiimides, azobenzenes, isothiocyanates, aldehydes, isocyanates and phosphaalkene with themselves or alkynes to afford cyclic compounds.

Abstract
An acid-catalyzed multicomponent tandem double cyclization protocol has been developed for the synthesis of polyfunctional 4,9-dihydropyrrolo[2,1-b]quinazolines from simple and readily available arylglyoxal monohydrates, 2-aminobenzylamine, and trans-β-nitrostyrenes. This practical and metal-free reaction proceeds through an imine formation/cyclization/Michael addition/Henry cyclization protocol, resulting in the construction of four new bonds and two ring moieties directly in one pot.
