Abstract
In real terrain and dynamic obstacle scenarios, the complexity of the 3D UAV path planning problem greatly increases. Thus, to procure the optimal flight path for UAVs in such scenarios, an augmented Artificial Gorilla Troops Optimizer, denoted as OQMGTO, is proposed. The proposed OQMGTO algorithm introduces three strategies: combination mutation, quadratic interpolation, and random opposition-based learning, aiming to enhance the ability to timely escape from local optimal path areas and rapidly converge to the global optimal path. Given the flight distance, smoothness, terrain collision, and other five realistic factors of UAVs, specific constraint conditions are proposed to address complex scenarios, aiming to construct a path planning model. By optimizing this model, OQMGTO algorithm solves the path planning problem in complex scenarios. The extensive validation of OQMGTO algorithm on CEC2017 test suite enhances its credibility as a powerful optimization tool. Comparison experiments are conducted in simulated terrain scenarios, including six multi-obstacle terrain scenarios and three dynamic obstacle scenarios. The experimental findings validate OOMGTO algorithm can assist UAV in searching for excellent flight paths, featuring high safety and reliability characteristics, which confirms the superiority of OOMGTO algorithm for path planning in simulated terrain scenarios. Furthermore, in four flight missions carried out in real terrains, OQMGTO algorithm demonstrates superior search performance, planning smooth trajectories without mountain collision.

Abstract
Intramuscular fat refers to the adipose tissue distributed in the muscle. It is an important indicator that affects the quality of goat meat, and can directly affect the tenderness and flavor of goat meat. Our previous study revealed the mRNA that may be crucial for intramuscular fat deposition during goat growth; however, how the microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the process is largely unclear. In the present study, a total of 401 known miRNAs and 120 goat novel miRNAs, including 110 differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs, were identified among longissimus dorsi from three growth stages (2, 9, and 24 months) by miRNA sequencing. Combining analysis of the DE mRNAs and DE miRNAs was then performed by miRDB and miRwalk, and miR-145-5p and FOXO1, miR-487b-3p, and PPARG coactivator 1 α (PPARGC1A), miR-345-3p, and solute carrier family 2 member 4 (SLC2A4), etc. were shown to closely associate with lipid metabolism, which was then validated by a correlation analysis. The final DE mRNAs were significantly enriched in fatty acid transmembrane transport, fatty acid homeostasis, apelin signaling pathway, glucagon signaling pathway, insulin signaling pathway, and AMPK signaling pathway by gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis. Besides, miR-145-5p showed a certain effect on goat intramuscular fat metabolism by acting on the possible target gene Forkhead Box O1 (FOXO1). These data provide some theoretical support for improving the quality of goat meat.

Abstract
The pumpkin leaf was extracted by the decoction method, and it was used as an eco-friendly, nontoxic inhibitor of copper in 0.5 M H2SO4 corrosion media. To evaluate the composition and protective capacity of the pumpkin leaf extract, Fourier infrared spectroscopy, electrochemical testing, XPS, AFM, and SEM were employed. The results showed that the pumpkin leaf extract (PLE) is an effective cathode corrosion inhibitor, exhibiting exceptional protection for copper within a specific temperature range. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of the PLE against copper reached 89.98% when the concentration of the PLE reached 800 mg/L. Furthermore, when the temperature and soaking time increased, the corrosion protection efficiency of 800 mg/L PLE on copper consistently remained above 85%. Analysis of the morphology also indicated that the PLE possesses equally effective protection for copper at different temperatures. Furthermore, XPS analysis reveals that the PLE molecules are indeed adsorbed to form an adsorption film, which is consistent with Langmuir monolayer adsorption. Molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations were conducted on the main components of the PLE.

Abstract
Introduction During the global COVID-19 pandemic, densely populated megacities engaged in active international exchanges have faced the most severe impacts from both the disease and the associated infodemic. This study examines the factors influencing public participation behavior on government microblogs in these megacities during the pandemic. It guides megacities in disseminating epidemic information, promoting knowledge on epidemic prevention, managing public opinion, and addressing related matters. Methods Utilizing the elaboration likelihood model's central and peripheral routes, drawing on an empirical analysis of 6,677 epidemic-related microblogs from seven Chinese megacities, this study analyses the influence mechanisms influencing public participation behavior and reveals the regulatory role of confirmed case numbers. Meanwhile,a qualitative comparative analysis examines and discusses diferent confgurations of ixn fuential factors. Results The study reveals that microblog content richness demonstrates a U-shaped impact on public participation behavior. Conversely, content interaction, content length, and the number of fans positively impact participation, while update frequency has a negative impact. Additionally, the number of new confrmed cases positively regulates the impact of microblog content and publisher characteristics on public participation behavior. Public participation behavior also varies based on publishing time and content semantic features. This study further revealed the different confgurations of influential factors by QCA method. Conclusion This study reveals the impact mechanism of the microblog content and publisher characteristics on public participation behavior. It also demonstrates the regulatory role of newly confrmed cases in the way content and publishers' characteristics influence public participation behavior. This study is of great significance for the operation of government microblogs, the release of emergency information, and the promotion of public participation.

Abstract
The concentrations, spatial-temporal distribution, and influencing factors of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the sediments of Poyang Lake were studied, and a quantitative source analysis of PAHs in different areas of the lake was conducted. PAHs were widespread within the sediments. The concentrations of ∑16PAHs in the surface sediments of all sites ranged from 203 to 2 318 μg·kg-1. The concentrations of PAHs in the surface sediments of the lake body were higher than those in the surface sediments of the inlet rivers. The ratio of PAHs in Poyang Lake was 4 rings > 5 rings > 6 rings > 3 rings > 2 rings; the composition of 4-ring PAHs was dominant, and its content accounted for 86.11% of ∑16PAHs. The 2- and 3-ring and some 4-ring PAHs, including Flua and Pyr, were more susceptible to SOM, and the 4 through 6-ring PAHs were more susceptible to ORP and heavy metals and other environmental factors. Spatially, the higher concentration of ∑16PAHs occurred in the area of the lake adjacent to Duchang County and Poyang County, where the terrain was relatively closed, and the water exchange with the surrounding area was less than that in other sections, which was not conducive to the migration, transformation, and degradation of pollutants. In the temporal distribution, the changes in PAHs concentration level and the development of GDP in Jiangxi Province showed high consistency, and the influence of economic development and human activities might have been the main reason for the increasing PAHs concentration level. The main sources of PAHs in surface sediments of Poyang Lake included petroleum pollution and oil and coal and biomass combustion sources, and there were some spatial differences in PAHs sources in different regions. This study can provide a reference for PAHs pollution in surface sediments of Poyang Lake, which is important for the ecological environmental protection and management of Poyang Lake.

Abstract
Recent advancements in preparing few-layer black phosphorene (BP) are hindered by edge reconstruction challenges. Our previous studies have revealed the factors contributing to the difficulty of growing few-layer BP. In this study, we have successfully identified three reconstructed edges in bi- and multilayer BP through a combination of the crystal structure analysis by particle swarm optimization (CALYPSO) global structure search and density functional theory (DFT). Notably, the reconstruction between adjacent layers proves more beneficial than self-passivation or maintaining pristine edges. Among the reconstructed edges, the reconstructed ZZ edge is the most stable, regardless of the number of layers. Calculated electronic band structures reveal a significant transition in the electronic properties of black phosphorus nanoribbons (BPNRs), changing from metallic to semiconducting. This insight not only enhances the understanding of the fundamental properties of BP but also provides valuable theoretical guidance for the experimental growth of BPNRs or black phosphorus nanowires (BPNWs).

Abstract
Objective Through data collection and analysis, the method of evaluating the operation quality of large medical equipment in children's hospital is explored and suggestions on the use and configuration of large medical equipment is put forward. Methods Collect the equipment operation data through the Internet of Things, and combine the hospital HIS, RIS, HRP and other information system data to establish the operation evaluation system of large medical equipment of children's hospital. CRITIC method is used to quantitatively evaluate single type of equipment and single equipment. Results Hospital big data platform realizes the longitudinal analysis of the operation data of a single large equipment and forms a visual chart, which is displayed on the PC and mobile terminals. Municipal platform can conduct horizontal analysis on the equipment operation data to realize the comprehensive quantitative evaluation of the operation level of large equipment of children's hospital and put forward suggestions for use and configuration. Conclusion A large equipment operation evaluation system for children's hospital is established through data collection and analysis, and the fine management level of large medical equipment is improved.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness and reliability of adding traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the clinical intervention and explore mechanisms of action for chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) through meta- and network pharmacology analysis (NPAs). METHODS A predefined search strategy was used to retrieve literature from PubMed, Embase database, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese BioMedical Literature Database (CBM), Wan Fang Data and China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP). After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 12 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included for meta-analysis to provide clinical evidence of the intervention effects. A network meta-analysis using Bayesian networks was conducted to observe the relative effects of different intervention measures and possible ranking of effects. The composition of the TCM formulation in the experimental group was analysed, and association rule mining was performed to identify hub herbal medicines. Target genes for CAG were searched in GeneCards, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, PharmGKB, Therapeutic Target Database and DrugBank. A regulatory network was constructed to connect the target genes with active ingredients of the hub herbal medicines. Enrichment analyses were performed using the Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) to examine the central targets from a comprehensive viewpoint. Protein-protein interaction networks (PPINs) were constructed to identify hub genes and conduct molecular docking with differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and corresponding active molecules. RESULTS A total of 1140 participants from 12 RCTs were included in the statistical analysis, confirming that the experimental group receiving the addition of TCM intervention had better clinical efficacy. Seven hub TCMs (Paeonia lactiflora, Atractylodes macrocephala, Pinellia ternata, Citrus reticulata, Codonopsis pilosula, Salvia miltiorrhiza and Coptis chinensis) were identified through association rule analysis of all included TCMs. Thirteen hub genes (CDKN1A, CASP3, STAT1, TP53, JUN, MAPK1, STAT3, MAPK3, MYC, HIF1A, FOS, MAPK14 and AKT1) were obtained from 90 gene PPINs. Differential gene expression analysis between the disease and normal gastric tissue identified MAPK1 and MAPK3 as the significant genes. Molecular docking analysis revealed that naringenin, luteolin and quercetin were the main active compounds with good binding activities to the two hub targets. GO analysis demonstrated the function of the targets in protein binding, while KEGG analysis indicated their involvement in important pathways related to cancer. CONCLUSIONS The results of a meta-analysis of 12 RCTs indicate that TCM intervention can improve the clinical treatment efficacy of CAG. NPAs identified seven hub TCM and 13 target genes associated with their actions, while bioinformatics analysis identified two DEGs between normal and CAG gastric tissues. Finally, molecular docking was employed to reveal the mechanism of action of the active molecules in TCM on the DEGs. These findings not only reveal the mechanisms of action of the active components of the TCMs, but also provide support for the development of new drugs, ultimately blocking the progression from chronic gastritis to gastric cancer.

Abstract
NK cells play a role in various cancers, but their role in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) still needs to be explored. All public data are obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas Program (TCGA) database. All analysis was performed using specific packages in R software. In our study, we quantified the immune microenvironment of HNSCC through multiple algorithms. Next, we identified NK cell-associated genes by quantifying NK cells, including SSNA1, TRIR, PAXX, DPP7, WDR34, EZR, PHLDA1 and ELOVL1. Then, we explored the single-cell expression pattern of these genes in the HNSCC microenvironment. Univariate Cox regression analysis indicated that the EZR, PHLDA1 and ELOVL1 were related to the prognosis of HNSCC patients. Following this, we selected EZR for further analysis. Our results showed that the patients with high EZR expression might have a poor prognosis and worse clinical features. Biological enrichment analysis showed that EZR is associated with many oncogenic pathways and a higher tumour stemness index. Meanwhile, we found that EZR can remodel the immune microenvironment of HNSCC. Moreover, we noticed that EZR could affect the immunotherapy and specific drug sensitivity, making it an underlying clinical target. In summary, our results can improve the understanding of NK cell in HNSCC. Meanwhile, we identified EZR as the underlying clinical target of HNSCC.

Abstract
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Identifying effective diagnostic markers and understanding risk factors is crucial for prevention and management. This study aimed to investigate the levels of homocysteine (Hcy) and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) in human plasma and their roles in the diagnosis and prognosis of CHD. A retrospective study was conducted on 232 patients with CHD, divided into Acute Myocardial Infarction, unstable angina pectoris, and stable angina pectoris groups, and a control group of 75 healthy adults. Blood samples were analyzed for serum Hcy and Lp-PLA2 levels using the cycling enzyme method and ELISA method, respectively. Statistical analyses were performed to evaluate the risk factors, and diagnostic efficacy was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. No significant differences in age and sex were observed between the study and control groups, whereas marked disparities in risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia were noted. Significant differences in serum Hcy and Lp-PLA2 levels were identified among the CHD subgroups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses revealed that Hcy, Lp-PLA2, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia were significant risk factors for CHD. The combined diagnostic Area Under the Curve (AUC) for Hcy and Lp-PLA2 was found to be higher than that when using them individually. This study identified the elevation of Hcy and Lp-PLA2 levels as independent risk factors for CHD, and their conjoint analysis significantly enhanced clinical diagnostic efficacy. These findings provide valuable insights for CHD diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, highlighting the importance of these markers in CHD management.

Abstract
The occurrence and removal rate of 52 typical pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) were investigated in a wastewater treatment plant in Beijing, China. Thirty-three PPCPs were found in the influent, with caffeine (CF, 11387.0 ng L-1) being the most abundant, followed by N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET, 9568.4 ng L-1), metoprolol (MTP, 930.2 ng L-1), and diclofenac (DF, 710.3 ng L-1). After treatment processes, the cumulative concentration of PPCPs decreased from 2.54 × 104 ng L-1 to 1.44 × 103 ng L-1, with the overall removal efficiency (RE) of 94.3%. Different treatment processes showed varying contributions in removing PPCPs. PPCPs were efficiently removed in sedimentation, anoxic, and ultraviolet units. For individual compounds, a great variation in RE (52.1-100%) was observed. Twenty-two PPCPs were removed by more than 90%. The highly detected PPCPs in the influent were almost completely removed. Aerated grit chamber removed nearly 50% of fluoroquinolone (FQs) and more than 60% of sulfonamides. Most PPCPs showed low or negative removals during anaerobic treatment, except for CF which was eliminated by 64.9%. Anoxic treatment demonstrated positive removals for most PPCPs, with the exceptions of DF, MTP, bisoprolol, carbamazepine (CBZ), and sibutramine. DEET and bezafibrate were efficiently removed during the secondary sedimentation. Denitrification biological filter and membrane filtration also showed positive effect on most PPCPs removals. The remaining compounds were oxidized by 16-100% in ozonation. DF, sulpiride, ofloxacin (OFL), trimethoprim, and phenolphthalein were not amenable to ultraviolet. After the treatment, the residue OFL, CBZ, and CF in receiving water were identified to pose high risk to aquatic organisms. Considering the complex mixtures emitted into the environment, therapeutic groups psychotropics, stimulant, and FQs were classified as high risk. These findings provide valuable insights into adopting appropriate measures for more efficient PPCPs removals, and emphasize the importance of continued monitoring specific PPCPs and mixtures thereof to safeguard the ecosystem.

Abstract
The emergence and development of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) provides an approach to understand the regulatory mechanisms of cell pluripotency and demonstrates the great potential of iPSCs in disease modeling. Acute myelitis defines a group of inflammatory diseases that cause acute nerve damage in the spinal cord; however, its pathophysiology remains to be elusive. In this study, we derived skin fibroblasts from a patient with acute myelitis (P-HAF) and then reprogrammed P-HAF cells to iPSCs using eight exogenous factors (namely, OCT4, SOX2, c-MYC, KLF4, NANOG, LIN28, RARG, and LRH1). We performed transcriptomic analysis of the P-HAF and compared the biological characteristics of the iPSCs derived from the patient (P-iPSCs) with those derived from normal individuals in terms of pluripotency, transcriptomic characteristics, and differentiation ability toward the ectoderm. Compared to the control iPSCs, the P-iPSCs displayed similar features of pluripotency and comparable capability of ectoderm differentiation in the specified culture. However, when tested in the common medium, the P-iPSCs showed attenuated potential for ectoderm differentiation. The transcriptomic analysis revealed that pathways enriched in P-iPSCs included those involved in Wnt signaling. To this end, we treated iPSCs and P-iPSCs with the Wnt signaling pathway inhibitor IWR1 during the differentiation process and found that the expression of the ectoderm marker Sox1 was increased significantly in P-iPSCs. This study provides a novel approach to investigating the pathogenesis of acute myelitis.

Abstract
The leaves of plants can be recommended as a cheap and sustainable environmental protection tool to mitigate PAHs with high toxicity in the ambient environment because they can serve as a reactor to remove ambient PAHs. Although previous studies have demonstrated that PAHs exhibit toxicological features, our knowledge about how ambient PAHs influence the leaves of plants is limited regarding the leaves of plants reducing ambient PAHs as a reactor. In this study, 1-year-old Rosa chinensis Jacq. with good growth potential was selected as a model plant. The leaves of Rosa chinensis Jacq. were exposed to 16 types of PAHs in the environmental concentration exposure group (0.1 μg L-1) and high-concentration exposure group (5 μg L-1) for seven days. In comparison, the leaves of Rosa chinensis Jacq. were exposed to de-ionized water and were chosen as the control group. During the exposure periods, the physiological parameters of leaves including, chlorophyll value, water content, temperature and nitrogen, were monitored using a chlorophyll meter. After 7 days of exposure, the leaves in the control and exposure groups were collected and used for whole-transcriptome analysis. Our results demonstrate that significant differentially expressed genes were observed in the leaves of Rosa chinensis Jacq. exposed to individual PAHs at 5 μg L-1 compared to the control group. These differentially expressed genes were involved in seven main pathways using bioinformatic analyses. In contrast, the levels of PAHs at environmentally relevant concentrations had negligible impacts on the physiological parameters and the gene transcription levels of the leaves of Rosa chinensis Jacq. Our results may provide direct evidence to remove ambient PAHs using terrestrial trees without considering the risk of PAHs at environmentally relevant concentrations on the leaves of terrestrial plants.

Abstract
The sulfur adsorption on gold surface is a hot topic in catalysis, electrochemistry and chemical sensors. However, the multiple structures of adsorbed sulfur and sulfur-induced reconstruction in gold substrate topography are still open problems until now. Here we performed an extensively study on sulfur adsorption on Au(111) surface based on First-Principles calculation. Our results show that the sulfur adsorption with additional Au atoms is not favorable. Thus, the well-known lifting of the herringbone reconstruction of Au(111) after sulfur adsorption can't be attributed to the lifting gold atoms. More importantly, we proposed an extremely stable configuration of S-Au(111) surface characterized by (√3 × √3)R30° at 0.33 coverage, in which each S atom is chemisorbed in 3-fold coordinated sites and all the surface-Au atoms are terminated. Finally, the good agreement between our simulated STM and LEED images and experimental observations illuminates the truth that our proposed configuration is also favorable in experiment. This super stable S-adsorbed surface can be used as a starting point for the growth of two dimensional transition metal sulfides.

Abstract
The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a transcription factor best known for mediating toxic responses of environmental pollutants, also integrates metabolic signals to promote anti-inflammatory responses, intestinal homeostasis, and maintain barrier integrity. AHR regulates its target genes through direct DNA-binding to aryl hydrocarbon response elements (AHREs) but also through tethering to other transcription factors in a DNA-binding independent manner. However, it is not known if AHR's anti-inflammatory role in the gut requires its ability to bind to AHREs. To test this, we determined the sensitivity of Ahrdbd/dbd mice, a genetically modified mouse line that express an AHR protein incapable of binding to AHREs, to dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis. Ahrdbd/dbd mice exhibited more severe symptoms of intestinal inflammation than Ahr+/+ mice. None of the Ahrdbd/dbd mice survived after the 5-day DSS followed by 7-day washout period. By day 6, the Ahrdbd/dbd mice had severe body weight loss, shortening of the colon, higher disease index scores, enlarged spleens, and increased expression of several inflammation genes, including interleukin 1b (Il-1b), Il-6, Il-17, C-x-c motif chemokine ligand 1 (Cxcl1), Cxcl2, Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase (Ptgs2), and lipocalin-2. Our findings show that AHR's DNA-binding domain and ability to bind to AHREs are required to reduce inflammation, maintain a healthy intestinal environment, and protect against DSS-induced colitis.

Abstract
A simple plastic optical fiber (POF) based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor is proposed and demonstrated for simultaneous measurement of refractive index (RI) and temperature. The sensor consists of a series of V-grooves along the POF and a side-polish structure at the other side of the fiber. The V-groove structure can alter the SPR excitation angle and act as a mode filter, effectively enhancing the SPR effect and narrowing the SPR wavelength width. After coating a layer of thermosensitive material-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film on half part of the fiber probe, a dual-parameter sensor probe is obtained for RI and temperature measurement. Experimental results show the RI sensitivity of the prepared probe can reach 1546 nm/RIU in the RI range of 1.335-1.37 RIU and the temperature sensitivity is -0.83 nm/°C in the temperature range of 20-80°C. The sensor is simple in structure and low cost, and has potential applications in the biochemical sensing fields.

Abstract
It was more than a decade ago that PHF8, KDM7A/JHDM1D and PHF2 were first proposed to be a histone demethylase family and were named as KDM7 (lysine demethylase) family. Since then, knowledge of their demethylation activities, roles as co-regulators of transcription and roles in development and diseases such as cancer has been steadily growing. The demethylation activities of PHF8 and KDM7A toward various methylated histones including H3K9me2/1, H3K27me2 and H4K20me1 have been identified and proven in various cell types. In contrast, PHF2, due to a mutation of a key residue in an iron-binding domain, demethylates H3K9me2 upon PKA-mediated phosphorylation. Interestingly, it was reported that PHF2 possesses an unusual H4K20me3 demethylation activity, which was not observed for PHF8 and KDM7A. PHF8 has been most extensively studied with respect to its roles in development and oncogenesis, revealing that it contributes to regulation of the cell cycle, cell viability and cell migration. Moreover, accumulating lines of evidence demonstrated that the KDM7 family members are subjected to post-transcriptional and post-translational regulations, leading to a higher horizon for evaluating their actual protein expression and functions in development and cancer. This chapter provides a general view of the current understanding of the regulation and functions of the KDM7 family and discusses their potential as therapeutic targets in cancer as well as perspectives for further studies.

Abstract
An automatic multi-plug filtration cleanup (m-PFC) tip-filtration method was developed to reduce the manual operation workload in sample preparation. In this work, m-PFC was based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes mixed with primary secondary amines and anhydrous magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) in a packed column for analysis of pesticide residues followed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. Method validation was performed on 22 pesticide residues in carrot, spinach and leek, at spiked levels of 5, 10 and 50 μg/kg, respectively. The average recoveries were between 70.1 and 119.5% with associated relative standard deviations <20% (n = 6) indicating satisfactory accuracy and repeatability. Matrix-matched calibration curves were performed with the correlation coefficients (R2) higher than 0.9903 within a linearity range of 5-100 ng/mL. The limits of quantification were 5 μg/kg for all the pesticides in carrot, spinach and leek matrices. The developed method was successfully used to determine pesticide residues in market samples.

Abstract
Water quality guarantee in remote areas necessitates the development of portable, sensitive, fast, cost-effective, and easy-to-use water quality detection methods. The current work reports on a microfluidic paper-based analytical device (μPAD) integrated with a smartphone app for the simultaneous detection of cross-type water quality parameters including pH, Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), and nitrite. The shapes, baking time, amount, and ratios of reaction reagent mixtures of wax μPAD were optimized to improve the color uniformity and intensity effectively. An easy-to-use smartphone app was established for recording, analyzing, and directly reading the colorimetric signals and target concentrations on μPAD. The results showed that under the optimum conditions, the current analytical platform has reached the detection limits of 0.4, 1.9, 2.9, and 1.1 ppm for nitrite, Cu(II), Ni(II), and Fe(III), respectively, and the liner ranges are 2.3-90 ppm (nitrite), 3.8-400 ppm (Cu(II)), 2.9-1000 ppm (Ni(II)), 2.8-500 ppm (Fe(III)), and 5-9 (pH). The proposed portable smartphone-app integrated μPAD detection system was successfully applied to real industrial wastewater and river water quality monitoring. The proposed method has great potential for field water quality detection.

Abstract
We evaluated the effect of dietary supplementation with Moringa oleifera leaf extract on the resistance to Aeromonas hydrophila infection in crucian carp. The fish were randomly divided into five groups: the basal diet, the basal diet supplied with 0.25% (0.25 M), 0.5% (0.5 M), 0.75% (0.75 M) and 1.0% M. oleifera leaf extract (1.0 M) for 8 weeks. The growth, antioxidant capabilities, related immune genes as well as resistance to A. hydrophila infection were determined. The results showed that compared with the control group, the weight gain, specific growth rate in the group of 0.5% M. oleifera leaf extract, serum superoxide dismutase (SOD), albumin (ALB) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), the gene expression of hepatopancreas BTB and CNC homolog 1 (Bach1), NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), peroxidases (PRX) and NADPH oxidase (NOX) in the group of 0.5%-1.0% M. oleifera leaf extract increased, while feed conversion ratio, serum cortisol, red blood cell (RBC), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), malonaldehyde (MDA) decreased in the group of 0.5%-1.0% M. oleifera leaf extract before the stress. After the infection, the group of 0.5% or 0.75% M. oleifera leaf extract also could improve the serum ALB, hepatopancreas Kelch-like-ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1), Bach1, Nrf2, TOR, PRX and NOX and reduce cortisol compared with the control group. In summary, this study suggested that 0.5% M. oleifera leaf extract inclusion increased the growth performance, even had positive effects on physiological and immune function, and enhanced resistance against pathogenic infections in crucian carp. The optimum level of M. oleifera leaf extract for crucian carp was estimated to be 0.35%-0.48% based on polynomial comparison with FCR and SGR.

Abstract
The edge structure of two-dimensional (2D) materials plays a critical role in controlling their growth kinetics and morphological evolution, electronic structures and functionalities. However, until now, the accurate edge reconstruction of ZnO nanoribbons remains absent. Here, we present results of a global search of ZnO edge structures having used the CALYPSO program combined with the density functional theory (DFT) method. In addition to a database of all the possible edge reconstructed structures of ZnO nanoribbons, the most stable edge reconstructed structures of armchair (ZnOAC), O-enriched zigzag (OZZ) and Zn-enriched zigzag edges (ZnZZ) have been confirmed based on molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and bonding configuration analysis of atoms near the edges. The edge formation energies show that their stabilities depend on the chemical potential (μO) and the concentrations (ρO) of oxygen atoms. Interestingly, a highly stable ZnZZ edge exhibits a novel nanotube-like structure and metallic characteristics, while the most stable reconstructed OZZ edge, resembling the letter "T", exhibits a narrow direct band-gap. It is almost certain that their electronic properties are determined by the edge states.

Abstract
The method for the determination of 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in plant leaves has been studied extensively, yet the quantitativemethod for measuring non-priority PAHs in plant leaves is limited. A method for the simultaneous determination of 31 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in plant leaves was established using an ultrasonic extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-internal standard method. The samples of plant leaves were extracted with ultrasonic extraction and purified with solid-phase extraction columns. The PAHs were separated by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry equipped with a DB-EUPAH capillary column (20 m × 0.18 mm × 0.14 μm) with a selective ion monitoring (SIM) detection mode, and quantified with an internal standard. The method had good linearity in the range of 0.005~1.0 μg/mL with correlation coefficients greater than 0.99, and the method detection limit and maximum quantitative detection limit were in the ranges of 0.2~0.7 μg/kg and 0.8~2.8 μg/kg, respectively. The method was verified with spiked recovery experiments. The average spiked recovery ranged from 71.0% to 97.6% and relative standard deviations (n = 6) were less than 14%. Herein, we established a quantitativemethod for the simultaneous determination of priority and non-priority PAHs in plant leaves using GC-MS. The method is highly sensitive and qualitatively accurate, and it is suitable for the determination of PAHs in plant leaves.

Abstract
The controllable preparation of ligand-protected clusters is still an unresolved problem, which may be due to that their formation mechanism is unclear. We propose that the ligand is the key to solve the above problems. Here, by using p-, m-, and o-methylbenzenethiol ligand protected gold clusters as examples, we try to explore the effect of ligand structures on ligand-protected gold clusters. The geometrical structures, relative stabilities and surface properties of small-sized ligand-protected gold clusters [Au-SR]1-8 (SR = p-/m-/o-MBT) have been systematically studied based on the density functional theory. The results show that the ground state structures of [Au-SR]1-8 clusters tend to form closed rings except for [Au-SR]1,2. The different structures of ligand have significant effect on the structures and stabilities of ligand-protected clusters. By analyzing their surface properties and possible growth patterns, it is found that [Au-SR]1,2 clusters serve as the basic building blocks, and the larger clusters can be regarded as the combinations of them. This study provides some insights into the effect of ligands on ligand-protected clusters, which is useful for understanding the formation mechanism of ligand-protected clusters.

Abstract
MgH2 is well known as a potential hydrogen storage material. However, its high thermodynamic stability, high dissociation temperature, slow absorption, and desorption kinetics severely limit its application. Aiming at these shortcomings, we try to improve the hydrogen storage property of MgH2 by doping with transition metal Sc atoms. The structures and electronic and hydrogen storage properties of Mg-Sc-H systems have been systematically studied by combining the crystal structure analysis by particle swarm optimization and density functional theory method. The results show that the structure of MgScH8 with the R3 space group is the most stable one, which is proved to be a wide-band gap (2.96 eV) semiconductor. The possible decomposition pathways, which are crucial for the applicability of R3-MgScH8 as a hydrogen storage material, are studied, and the pathway of MgScH8 → ScH6 + Mg + H2 is found to be the most favorable one under 107.8 GPa pressure, while above 107.8 GPa, MgScH8 → Mg + Sc + 4H2 becomes the most thermodynamically stable pathway and releases the maximum amount of hydrogen. Based on the root mean square deviation calculation, it is found that R3-MgScH8 begins to melt at 400 K. The result of ab initio molecular dynamics simulations shows that the hydrogen release capacity (4.04 wt %) can be easily achieved at 500 K, thus making MgScH8 a potential hydrogen storage material.

Abstract
Vibrio vulnificus is a pathogenic bacterium that causes disease in marine fish, affecting fish farming and human health worldwide. In May 2021, in the Bohai Bay region, a disease broke out in commercially farmed pearl gentian grouper (♀Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × ♂Epinephelus lanceolatus), causing huge economic losses. The diseased fish had skin lesions, water accumulation in their abdomens, and showed tissue and organ damage. V. vulnificus biotype 2 has been reported in eels and other marine fish, but it is less reported in pearl gentian grouper. In this study, the pathogenic strain isolated from diseased fish was identified as V. vulnificus EPL 0201 biotype 2 on the basis of physiological and biochemical characteristics and the results of 16S rRNA gene and gyrB sequencing, virulence gene detection, and recursive infection experiments. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the pathogenicity and drug resistance of this strain, whole-genome sequencing was performed. Whole-genome analysis showed that the gene map of this strain was complete. The Virulence Factor Database annotation results showed that this strain had the key virulence factor genes vvhA and rtxA, which cause host disease. In addition, this strain had genes conferring resistance against cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, and sulfonamides. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing confirmed the presence of these resistance genes identified in the genome. The results of this study show that V. vulnificus EPL 0201 biotype 2 is a multi-drug resistant strain with high pathogenicity.

Abstract
The high-throughput production of the eco-friendly MIL-88A(Fe) was achieved under mild reaction conditions with normal pressure and temperature. The as-prepared MIL-88A(Fe) exhibited efficient photo-Fenton catalytic ofloxacin (OFL) degradation upon visible light irradiation with good stability and reusability. The OFL (20.0 mg/L) was completely degraded within 50 min under visible light with the aid of MIL-88A(Fe) (0.25 g/L) and H2O2 (1.0 mL/L) in aqueous solution (pH = 7.0). The hydroxyl radicals (·OH) are the main active species during the photo-Fenton oxidation process. Meanwhile, the degradation intermediates and the corresponding degradation pathways were identified and proposed with the aid of both ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Finally, the degradation product library was firstly established to identify intermediate transformation products (TPs) with their variation of concentration, and their corresponding toxicologic activities were assessed via Toxtree and T.E.S.T software as well. Finally, the MIL-88A is efficient and stable with four cycles' catalysis operations, demonstrating good potential for water treatment.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths globally. Metastasis is associated with a poor prognosis, yet the underlying molecular mechanism(s) remained largely unknown. In this study, a total of 85 CRC patients were included and the primary tumor lesions were evaluated by next-generation sequencing using a targeted panel for genetic aberrations. Patients were sub-divided according to their metastasis pattern into the non-organ metastases (Non-OM) and organ metastases (OM) groups. By comparing the genetic differences between the two groups, we found that mutations in FBXW7 and alterations in its downstream NOTCH signaling pathway were more common in the Non-OM group. Moreover, correlation analysis suggested that FBXW7 mutations were independent of other somatic alterations. The negative associations of alterations in FBXW7 and its downstream NOTCH signaling pathway with CRC organ metastasis were validated in a cohort of 230 patients in the TCGA CRC dataset. Thus, we speculated that the genomic alterations of FBXW7/NOTCH axis might be an independent negative indicator of CRC organ metastases.

Abstract
The spatiotemporal distributions, influential factors, and ecological risks of 15 phthalate acid esters (PAEs) in the sediments of three typical lakes in Inner Mongolia were investigated in this work. PAEs were widespread in all surface sediments ranging from 598.3 to 3873.8 μg/kg dry weight. Average PAE concentrations were highest in the surface sediments of Wuliangsuhai Lake followed by Daihai and Hulun Lakes, which were consistent with population density and intensity of anthropogenic activities. Dibutyl phthalate, di-iso-butyl phthalate (DIBP), and diethyl phthalate (DEP) were the dominant PAEs with similar abundance orders for the three lakes. The cold climate could explain the higher DEP abundance in the sediments of lakes at higher latitudes. The highest Σ PAE and most individual PAE concentrations were located at one of the discharge river estuaries because most PAEs were terrestrial pollutants. Σ PAE concentrations in the core sediments increased with years and fluctuations owing to the increasing PAE usage and input. The second highest PAE concentration peaks were associated with the high gross domestic product growth rates in 2003-2008. Redundancy analysis revealed that butyl benzyl phthalate and diamyl phthalate in the surface sediments of Hulun Lake were principally positively influenced by organic matter (65.6% contribution among geochemical variables), Fe oxides (25.1% contribution among metals), and Mn oxides (23.8% contribution among metals). The DIBP and DEP exhibited high risks to sensitive fish according to a risk quotient assessment. This work presents new insights into PAE status and deposition mechanisms in the lakes within high latitudes or cold climates, and provides important information for future environmental protection and management.

Abstract
Mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) represent an underexplored source of intriguing natural products. Efforts to discover bioactive metabolites from sponge-associated fungi in MCEs identified a new steroid, acremocholone (1) and its three known analogs (2-4), from Acremonium sp. NBUF150. The Acremonium sp. NBUF150 was isolated from a Ciocalypta sponge located 70 m deep within the South China Sea. The planar structures and absolute configuration of 1-4 were determined from NMR-derived spectroscopic data, HR-ESI-MS, and X-ray crystallography. Compound 1 exhibited antimicrobial inhibition against Vibrio scophthalmi, V. shilonii and V. brasiliensis at minimum inhibitory concentrations of 8 μg/mL; compound 2 inhibited V. shilonii and V. brasiliensis at 8 and 32 μg/mL, respectively, and compound 4 inhibited growth of V. brasiliensis at 16 μg/mL. Sponge associated fungi from MCEs represent a promising resource of anti-Vibrio drug leads for aquaculture use.

Abstract
Load-bearing tissues are typically fortified by networks of protein fibers, often with preferential orientations. This fiber structure imparts the tissues with direction-dependent mechanical properties optimized to support specific external loads. To accurately model and predict tissues’ mechanical response, it is essential to characterize the anisotropy on a microstructural scale. Previously, it has been difficult to measure the mechanical properties of intact tissues noninvasively. Here, we use Brillouin optical microscopy to visualize and quantify the anisotropic mechanical properties of corneal tissues at different length scales. We derive the stiffness tensor for a lamellar network of collagen fibrils and use angle-resolved Brillouin measurements to determine the longitudinal stiffness coefficients (longitudinal moduli) describing the ex vivo porcine cornea as a transverse isotropic material. Lastly, we observe significant mechanical anisotropy of the human cornea in vivo, highlighting the potential for clinical applications of off-axis Brillouin microscopy. Here, Brillouin optical microscopy noninvasively visualizes microscale anisotropy of the porcine cornea owing to its lamellar fiber structure and quantifies the longitudinal moduli of the bulk tissue. Anisotropy is also detected in angle-resolved measurement of the human cornea in vivo.

Abstract
Purpose Pancreatic adenocarcinoma has a poor prognosis and chemotherapy has its limitation due to tumor heterogeneity. It is essential to find novel targets involving in tumorigenesis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Growing evidences indicated that pyroptosis is involved in tumorigenesis of many cancers, but the relationship between pyroptosis and pancreatic adenocarcinoma still remains to be elucidated. Our object is to explore whether pyroptosis-related different expression genes have association with survivals of pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients and the mechanism they may participate in. Besides, we also analyzed their effect on immune cell infiltration in tumor microenvironment. Patients and Methods We used the bioinformatic analysis tool including GEPIA, cBioPortal, STRING, GeneMANIA, R software 4.03 and TIMER2.0 to investigate the different expression, prognostic value, protein-protein interaction, gene ontology, pathway and effect of immune cell infiltration of pyroptosis-related genes in PAAD. Results Many pyroptosis-related genes express differently between pancreatic adenocarcinoma and normal tissues and they are associated with survival of PAAD. GABARAP and IL18 may play a key role in tumorigenesis of PAAD, for they are connected with overall survival, disease free survival and pathological stages at the same time. The function of pyroptosis-related genes includes cytokine production, endopeptidase activity, regulation of inflammation and inflammasome complex and pyroptosis-related genes have effect on immune cells infiltration in PAAD microenvironment. Conclusion Lots of pyroptosis-related DEGs may get involved in pathogenesis of PAAD and their high expression have an effect on survival. GABARAP and IL18 could be valuable research targets of PAAD.

Abstract
The seamless coalescence of parallelly aligned 2D materials is the primary route toward the synthesis of wafer-scale single crystals (WSSCs) of 2D materials. The epitaxial growth of various 2D materials on a single-crystal substrate, which is an essential condition of the seamless coalescence approach, has been extensively explored in previous studies. Here, by using hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) growth on a liquid gold surface as an example, we demonstrate that growth of WSSCs of 2D materials via the seamless coalescence of self-aligned 2D islands on a liquid substrate is possible. Here we show that, in the presence of hydrogen, all the hBN edges tend to be hydrogen terminated and the coalescence of hBN islands occurs only if their crystallographic lattices of neighboring hBN islands are aligned parallelly. The mechanism of hBN self-alignment revealed in this study implies that, under the optimum experimental condition, the seamless coalescence of 2D materials on a liquid substrate is possible and thus provides guidance for synthesizing WSSCs of various 2D materials by using liquid phase substrates.

Abstract
Rock mass quality evaluation is a challenging task in geotechnical investigations given the natural heterogeneity and the limited data. These investigations mainly depend on the traditional drilling tests. However, such tests are expensive and time consuming, provide point measurements, and cannot be conducted in steep topographic areas, and thus cause uncertainties in the geological model. Conversely, geophysical methods such as electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) are non-invasive, user-friendly, and fast. In this work, we establish empirical correlation between ERT and limited drilling data to obtain rock mass integrity coefficient (Kv). The estimated Kv provides 2D/3D imaging of the rock mass quality evaluation via weathered/unweathered rock and faults detection in order to cover the entire area even where no drilling test exists. Compared with the past geotechnical investigations, our work reduce the ambiguities caused by the inadequate well tests and provide more accurate geological model for infrastructures design. Our work proposes that, in case of sparse borehole data, the established empirical equations can be used to determine Kv along different geophysical profiles via 2D/3D insight of the subsurface. Our approach is applicable in any hard rock setting, and the established correlations can be used in areas even where no well test exists.

Abstract
In this work, the electrical properties of monolayerα-GeTe (MLα-GeTe) based on first-principles were studied, in which armchairα-GeTe shows an ohmic current-voltage relationship and zigzagα-GeTe shows an obvious nonlinear current. The potential distribution and band structure explain the mechanism for the anisotropy and nonlinearity. Then, based on calculation of the binding energy and Mulliken population, eight interface structures between graphene (GR) and MLα-GeTe were constructed, in which GC3 and TC3 were found to be relatively stable. Next, GR/MLα-GeTe/GR was established based on the two interfaces (GC3 and TC3). The current-voltage (IV) characteristics were calculated to show that the device has bipolar resistance characteristics, suitable set and reset voltages and a high window value (104). Further analysis of electron density inferred that the resistance mechanism was based on the drift of Te vacancies forming conductive filaments. And the performance of GR/MLα-GeTe/GR was found to be improved by the creation of Te vacancies. This work indicates that GR/MLα-GeTe/GR has the potential to be used to build resistive random access memory (RRAM) with good performance and may be instructive and valuable for the manufacture and application of RRAM.

Abstract
2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD)-inducible poly-adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-ribose polymerase (TIPARP/PARP7), an aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) target gene and mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase, acts as part of a negative feedback loop to repress AHR signaling. This process is prevented by a single H532A mutation in TIPARP that destroys its catalytic activity. We hypothesized that the loss of TIPARP catalytic activity would increase sensitivity to TCDD-induced toxicity in vivo. To test this, we created a catalytically deficient mouse line (TiparpH532A) by introducing a single H532A mutation in TIPARP. Treatment of mouse embryonic fibroblasts or hepatocytes isolated from TiparpH532A mice confirmed the increased TCDD-induced expression of the AHR target genes Cyp1a1, Cyp1b1, and Tiparp. TiparpH532A mice given a single injection of 10 µg/kg TCDD, a nonlethal dose in Tiparp+/+ mice, did not survive beyond day 10. All Tiparp+/+ mice survived the 30-day treatment. TCDD-treated TiparpH532A mice displayed increased expression of AHR target genes, increased steatohepatitis and hepatotoxicity. Hepatic RNA-sequencing revealed 7-fold more differentially expressed genes in TiparpH532A mice than in Tiparp+/+ mice (4542 vs 647 genes) 6 days after TCDD treatment. Differentially expressed genes included genes involved in xenobiotic metabolism, lipid homeostasis and inflammation. Taken together, these data further support TIPARP as a critical negative regulator of AHR activity and show that loss of its catalytic activity is sufficient to increase sensitivity to TCDD-induced steatohepatitis and lethality. Since TIPARP inhibition has recently emerged as a potential anticancer therapy, the impact on AHR signaling, TCDD and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon toxicity will need to be carefully considered under conditions of therapeutic TIPARP inhibition.

Abstract
Yttrium borides have attracted much attention for their superconducting and high chemical stability. However, the fundamental knowledge of the mechanical properties and hardness of yttrium borides is rather lack. Here, we performed a systematic investigation on yttrium borides with various stoichiometries based on an unbiased CALYPSO structure search method and first-principles calculations. A new YB6 compound with R3m hexagonal structure is observed, which is more stable than the experimental synthesized Pm3̅m phase. The calculated formation enthalpy, elastic constants, and phonon dispersions distinctly show that the R3m-YB6 is energetically, mechanically, and dynamically stable. The density of states and electronic band structure reveal that all the stable yttrium borides are metallic. Based on a semiempirical method, the Vicker hardness of R3m-YB6 is expectant to be 37.0 GPa, indicating it is a potential ultrahard metal. Our results provide insights for future synthesis and design of new type functional materials.

Abstract
In this work, a graphene (GR)/MoS2/GR selector was proposed based on first principle calculations. First, MoS2 was chosen as the resistive switching layer due to its high carrier mobility and was doped with nine kinds of dopants. Semiconductor characteristics were still maintained with P, Si, and Ti doping, while the others showed semimetallic properties. Then, heterostructures were built between metal GR and MoS·X (X = S, P, Si, Ti), and the conductivities of MoS·Si and MoS·Ti were obviously improved with the GR electrode through analysis of the impurity orbital contribution to the band energy. The plane average electrostatic potential and the charge density difference show that the Schottky barrier height and width of the GR/MoS·Si interface were the smallest and that the intensity of the built-in electric field was better than that of GR/MoS2 and GR/MoS·Ti. Finally, GR/MoS·X(X = S, Si, Ti)/GR selectors were proposed, and the electronic transmission shows that the ON-state current (I on) and nonlinear coefficient of the GR/MoS·Si/GR selector were increased by two and three orders of magnitude, respectively, and the threshold voltage (V th) was reduced by approximately 1 V, which can better suppress the leakage current in a one-selector one-RRAM cross array. This work may be instructive and valuable for the design and optimization of GR/MoS2/GR selectors.

Abstract
Goose is an important type of domesticated poultry. The wild geese that are regarded as the ancestors of modern domestic geese present gray plumage. Domesticated, geese have both white and gray feathers. To elucidate the genetic mechanisms underlying the formation of white and gray plumage in geese, we resequenced the whole genome of 18 geese from six populations including white and gray goose breeds. The average sequencing depth per individual was 9.81× and the average genome coverage was 96.8%. A total of 346 genes were detected in the top 1% of FST scores of gray- and white-feathered geese, and a significant FST site was located in the intron region within the KIT gene, the 18 bp deletion in KIT having the strongest potential association with white feathers. It has been reported that a number of genes are associated with plumage colors in birds. However, no studies have identified the relationship between KIT and plumage color in birds at present, although the white coat can be attributed to mutations in KIT in some mammals. Our study showed that that KIT is a plausible candidate gene for white/gray plumage color in Chinese domestic geese.

Abstract
Mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) have complex but understudied biodiversity, especially for natural products discovery. Untargeted metabolomics research on 80 extracts prepared from marine sponge-associated fungi, half from shallow reefs (<30 m) and half from MCEs (30–150 m), facilitated prioritization for further study a Cymostachys fungus from a 103 m deep Aaptos sponge. LC-MS target-directed isolation yielded a series of new compounds, cymopolyphenols A−F (1–6), and two known phenylspirodrimanes, F1839-I (7) and stachybotrylactone (8). This is the first report of natural products from the recently described genus, Cymostachys. Compounds 1–6 and 8 contain a dihydroisobenzofuran moiety, and 4–6 are low-order polymers of 1 with novel scaffolds. The structures of the compounds were established by spectroscopic and spectrometric data interpretation, with further support from X-ray crystallography studies of 3 and 4. Compound 3 undergoes facile racemization in solution and was found to crystalize as a racemic mixture. Compound 5 was also obtained in racemic form, and after chiral chromatography, both separated enantiomers racemized in solution by a presumed keto-enol tautomerization. Compounds 1 and 3–6 were found to be weakly antimicrobial (MIC 16–64 μg/ml) in vitro against several Gram-positive and Gram-negative human or aquatic pathogens, compound 5 was shown to chelate iron in vitro at 10 μM, and 8 activated plant disease resistance in vivo in a transgenic model organism.

Abstract
Immunity against malaria depends on germinal center (GC)-derived antibody responses that are orchestrated by T follicular helper (TFH) cells. Emerging data show that the regulatory cytokine IL-10 plays an essential role in promoting GC B cell responses during both experimental malaria and virus infections. Here we investigated the cellular source and temporal role of IL-10, and whether IL-10 additionally signals to CD4 T-cells to support anti-Plasmodium humoral immunity. Distinct from reports of virus infection, we found that IL-10 was expressed by conventional, Foxp3-negative effector CD4 T cells and functioned in a B cell-intrinsic manner only during the first 96 hours of Plasmodium infection to support humoral immunity. The critical functions of IL-10 manifested only before the orchestration of GC responses and were primarily localized outside of B cell follicles. Mechanistically, our studies showed that the rapid and transient provision of IL-10 promoted B cell expression of anti-apoptotic factors, MHC class II, CD83, and cell-cell adhesion proteins that are essential for B cell survival and interaction with CD4 T cells. Together, our data reveal temporal features and mechanisms by which IL-10 critically supports humoral immunity during blood-stage Plasmodium infection, information that may be useful for developing new strategies designed to lessen the burden of malaria.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Euthyroid sick syndrome (ESS) frequently arises in children admitted with diabetic ketoacidosis/diabetic ketosis (DKA/DK). This study evaluates the interplay of various metabolic factors with occurrence of deranged thyroid function tests in children suffering from DKA/DK. METHODS 98 DKA and 96 DK pediatric patients were selected from hospital records. Those on thyroxine replacement, with overt hypothyroidism, or with positive anti-thyroperoxidase (TPO) antibody were excluded. Tests for liver function, renal function, lipid profile, serum osmolarity, thyroid function, c-peptide levels, and glycosylated hemoglobin were done on all patients. Children were divided into euthyroid (n = 88) and ESS groups (n = 106). RESULTS The ESS group had a higher level of white blood cell count (WBC), plasma glucose (PG), beta-hydroxybutyric acid (β-HB), triglyceride (TG), anion gap (AG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and a lower level of HCO3-, prealbumin (PA), and albumin (ALB) compared with the euthyroid group (P < 0.05). Free T3 (FT3) levels were significantly correlated to β-HB, HCO3-, AG, PA, and HbA1c (r = - 0.642, 0.681, - 0.377, 0.581, - 0.309, respectively; P < 0.01). Free T4 (FT4) levels were significantly correlated to β-HB, HCO3-, and ALB levels (r = - 0.489, 0.338, 0.529, respectively; P < 0.01). TSH levels were significantly affected by HCO3- only (r = - 0.28; P < 0.01). HCO3- level was the most important factor deciding euthyroid or ESS on logistic regression analysis (OR = 0.844, P = 0.004, 95%CI = 0.751-0.948). CONCLUSIONS Lower levels of free thyroid hormones and occurrence of ESS were associated with a higher degree of acidosis in children with DKA/DK.
