Abstract
A highly efficient one-pot method for the synthesis of 2,4,6-triaryl pyridines has been developed via cascade deamination and annulation. Copper triflate and molecular iodine easily promoted the oxidative cyclization reaction of vinyl azide and benzylamine to access a wide variety of substituted pyridine substrates under an oxygen atmosphere. The presence of benzyl amine enables the cyclization process by providing the aryl functionality and the nitrogen source. Moreover, a broad range of substrates with good functional group tolerance, avoidance of external oxidants, excellent product yields, operational simplicity and mild conditions are the notable advantages of the present protocol.

Abstract
We report an efficient method to prepare polysubstituted 3-hydroxypyridines from amino acids, propargyl alcohols, and arylboronic acids. The process involves Pd(0)-catalyzed anti-selective arylative cyclizations of N-propargyl-N-tosyl-aminoaldehydes with arylboronic acids (“anti-Wacker”-type cyclization), oxidation of the resulting 5-substituted-3-hydroxy-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridines to 3-oxo derivatives, and elimination of p-toluenesulfinic acid. This method provides diverse polysubstituted 3-hydroxypyridines, whose hydroxy group can be further substituted by a cross-coupling reaction via a triflate.

Abstract
Here, we report the synthesis of 3,4-disubstituted 1H-pyrazoles and 3,5-disubstituted pyridines from the reaction of epoxides with hydrazine and ammonia, respectively. Both reactions utilize Sc(OTf)3 as a Lewis acid. The pyrazole synthesis utilizes N-bromosuccinimide to convert the intermediate pyrazolines to the pyrazoles, whereas the pyridine synthesis utilizes FeCl3 as a cocatalyst.

Abstract
A highly efficient and elegant diversity-oriented reaction paradigm employing atropaldehyde acetals as new dual C2/C3 synthons was developed under metal-free conditions using glycine esters as the counterpart reagents, which allowed rapid synthesis of two important nitrogen-containing heterocycles, pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines and 3,5-diarylpyridines. The divergent products are subtly controlled by the manipulation of the substitutional groups of glycine esters. When a N-arylglycine ester was used, pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines can be formed through cascade oxidative C-C cleavage/multiple cyclization. Instead, N-benzylglycine ester as the counter-reagent led to the synthesis of 3,5-diarylpyridines via two key C-N cleavages. Mild conditions, broad substrate scope, scalability and environmentally acceptable organic solvents rendered this method practical and attractive.

Abstract
A remarkable metal-oxidant-solvent- and base-free domino route for regioselective access to a wide range of 2,4-di- and 2,3,4/6-trisubstituted pyridines including carbo- and heterocyclic fused pyridines is reported. This [3C + 2C + 1N] cyclization reaction occurs between 3-chloropropiophenones (3C units), enolizable acyclic/cyclic ketones (2C sources) and NH4OAc as a robust N source under neat conditions under an open atmosphere, producing new C=C and C=N-C bonds in highly chemo- and regioselective manners. Interestingly, this eco-friendly method has many positive features: excellent functional group tolerance, broad substrate scope, good to excellent regioselectivities, promising yields, no-unwanted products, neutral reaction conditions and appropriateness for large-scale synthesis. Mechanism studies reveal that the in situ generated β-amino ketone from 3-chloropropiophenone and an ammonium salt undergoes C=N bond formation with a ketone followed by an intramolecular cyclization process (C=C bond), which are the decisive steps for pyridine synthesis.

Abstract
Multiply aryl/alkyl-substituted pyridines are some of the untapped synthetic targets because of the challenge in regioselectively introducing less polar aryl/alkyl groups at the desired positions in the pyridine framework. Interestingly, the importance of this family of compounds has increased annually, particularly in biological and materials engineering applications. The syntheses of such pyridines have been extensively reported, but there is a lack of comprehensive review articles. Hence, this review discusses recent advances by grouping reaction patterns that generally deliver tri-, tetra-, and penta-aryl/alkyl pyridines.

Abstract
A facile and highly efficient iodine-promoted strategy has been delineated for the synthesis of indolo and pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline derivatives via an oxidative Pictet-Spengler type amino cyclo-annulation reaction using ∝-amino acids as aldehyde surrogates. The concomitant benzylic oxidation and the compatibility of different starting materials under standard conditions made the current method versatile. The salient features of the protocol such as readily available starting materials, inexpensive promoters, environmental benignity, broad substrate scope, scalability, and good to excellent yield make the method more attractive to practitioners of organic synthesis.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the preparation of pyridine skeletons has been successfully developed involving the TMSOTf/HMDS (trifluoromethanesulfonic acid/hexamethyldisilane) system for the intermolecular cyclization of chalcones under MW (microwave) irradiation conditions. This method provides a facile approach to synthesize 2,4,6-triaryl or 3-benzyl-2,4,6-triarylpyridines in good to excellent yields. Interestingly, the 2,6-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-2-ene core was obtained by changing the acid additive to Sn(OTf)2, and the desired product was also confirmed using X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. A Kröhnke pyridine synthetic route towards functionalized TAPs and 3-benzyl TAPs has been established using TMSOTf/HMDS under microwave irradiation conditions.![]()

Abstract
An efficient and general protocol for the synthesis of functionalized 2,4,6-triaryl pyridines and pyrimidines was developed from commercially available aromatic ketones, aldehydes and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) as a nitrogen source under microwave irradiation. In this multicomponent synthetic route, Lewis acids play an important role in selectively synthesizing six-membered heterocycles, including pyridines (1N) and pyrimidines (2N), by involving [2 + 1 + 2 + 1] or [2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1] annulated processes. Abstract
The first [3 + 2 + 1] methodology for pyridine skeleton synthesis via cascade carbopalladation/cyclization of acetonitrile, arylboronic acids, and aldehydes was developed. This reaction proceeds via six step tandem reaction sequences involving the carbopalladation reaction of acetonitrile, a nucleophilic addition, a condensation, an intramolecular Michael addition, cyclization, and aromatization. Delightfully, both palladium acetate and supported palladium nanoparticles catalyzed this reaction with similar catalytic performance. The characterization results of the fresh and used supported palladium nanoparticle catalysts indicated that the reaction might be performed via a Pd(0)/Pd(II) catalytic cycle that began with Pd(0). Furthermore, the products showed good fluorescence characteristics. The green homogeneous/heterogenous catalytic methodologies pave a new way for constructing the pyridine skeleton.

Abstract
Quinazoline skeletons are synthesized by amino acid catabolism/reconstruction combined with the insertion/cyclization of dimethyl sulfoxide for the first time. The amino acid acts as a carbon and nitrogen source through HI-mediated catabolism and is then reconstructed using aromatic amines and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as a one-carbon synthon. This protocol is of great significance for the further study of the conversion of amino acids.

Abstract
A novel, transition-metal free route leading to imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives via iodine mediated oxidative coupling between 2-aminopyridine and aromatic terminal alkyne has been demonstrated. This newly developed method discloses an operationally simple way for the construction of imidazoheterocycles. Commercially available antiulcer drug zolimidine may readily be synthesized employing this method.

Abstract
4,6-Dihydroxysalicylic acid was activated under air to catalyze the one-pot oxidative condensation reaction of benzylamines with acetophenones in the presence of BF3·Et2O, affording 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyridines in yields of 59-91%. During this metal-free oxidative condensation reaction, the benzylamines not only provided the aryl moiety at the 4-position of the pyridines but also acted as the nitrogen donor. This method can be applied to the metal-free synthesis of G-quadruplex binding ligands by the sequential addition of 4-chlorobutyryl chloride and pyrrolidine to the reaction system of the 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyridine synthesis.

Abstract
Protein-rich biomass provides a valuable feedstock for the chemical industry. This Review describes every process step in the value chain from protein waste to chemicals. The first part deals with the physicochemical extraction of proteins from biomass, hydrolytic degradation to peptides and amino acids, and separation of amino acid mixtures. The second part provides an overview of physical and (bio)chemical technologies for the production of polymers, commodity chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and other fine chemicals. This can be achieved by incorporation of oligopeptides into polymers, or by modification and defunctionalization of amino acids, for example, their reduction to amino alcohols, decarboxylation to amines, (cyclic) amides and nitriles, deamination to (di)carboxylic acids, and synthesis of fine chemicals and ionic liquids. Bio- and chemocatalytic approaches are compared in terms of scope, efficiency, and sustainability.

Abstract
Many pyridine syntheses have been developed to date. In this study, we focused on pyridine synthesis with 1,5-diketone derivatives and hydroxylamine. Treatment of simple 1,5-diketoalkanes and hydroxylamine in basic or acidic conditions gave aldol adducts without any pyridine compounds. However, by screening the reaction conditions, we found that acidic conditions produced via the formation of oxime intermediates derived from 1,5-diketoalkanes allowed the formation of the corresponding pyridine derivatives. This is the first example of 2,4,6-trialkylpyridine synthesis from quite simple 1,5-diketoalkanes. In order to demonstrate the utility of the reaction, we demonstrated the synthesis of pyridine derivatives and the total synthesis of a 6-substituted pyridyl-natural product, anibamine. This was achieved by following the above methodology using a reported compound as the starting material to give the product in 12% yield.
