Abstract
Herein, we report an efficient and practical method for synthesizing α,α-dibromo esters, which are the precursors of ynolates, through the dibromination of aldehydes followed by oxidative esterification using iodine. Our method was successfully employed in a large-scale synthesis to yield more than 30 g of dibromo esters. These two steps can be performed in a one-pot manner, which makes the method adaptable even for aldehydes having low boiling points.

Abstract
This study reports the synthesis of cyclobutene derivatives in good yields via the [2 + 2] cycloaddition between lithium ynolates and α,β-unsaturated carbonyls. The ynolates are generated from α,α,α-tribromomethyl ketones and tert-butyl lithium via a simple and novel method, which does not produce any harmful byproducts, such as lithium alkoxide, which induces a polymerization reaction with α,β-unsaturated carbonyls.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed regioselective hydroamination of α,β-unsaturated phosphonates has been developed to form corresponding α-aminophosphonates of interest in medicinal chemistry. The introduction of an umpolung, electrophilic amination strategy with the hydroxylamine derivative is the key to achieving the α-amination regioselectivity, which is otherwise difficult under the conventional nucleophilic hydroamination conditions with the parent amine. Asymmetric synthesis with a chiral bisphosphine ligand and application to a related silylamination reaction are also described.

Abstract
A highly stereoselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of N,N'-cyclic azomethine imines with aryl acetaldehydes enabled by a chiral N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst is accomplished, giving efficient access to a plethora of enantioenriched N,N'-bicyclic pyrazolidinones featuring aromatic substituents at the C2 position. The current strategy can be directly conducted on a gram scale, and the product could be further reduced to bicyclic pyrazolidine without loss of enantiopurity.

Abstract
Thanks to metal- and catalyst-free electrochemical conditions in an undivided cell, a series of readily available redox-active N-(acyloxy)phthalimide esters led to an efficient and highly stereoselective addition (85 : 15 to 95 : 5 dr) of putative radical species to chiral (racemic and enantioenriched) C5-substituted azomethine imines to provide an array of 31 polyaminated hydrazine derivatives as a single diastereoisomer.

Abstract
A versatile asymmetric synthesis of bicyclic pyrazolidinones through alkaloid‐catalyzed formal [3+2]‐ and [3+2+2]‐cycloadditions of ketenes with azomethine imines is described. The methodology was found to be tolerant of ketene and a variety of monosubstituted ketenes (R=alkyl, OAc). The products were formed in good to excellent yields (71–99 % for 24 examples, 39 examples in all), with good to excellent diastereoselectivity in many cases (dr 3 : 1 to 27 : 1 for 22 examples), and with excellent enantioselectivity for most examples (≥93 % ee for 34 products). In the case of most disubstituted ketenes, the reaction proceeded through a [3+2+2]‐cycloaddition to form structurally interesting bicyclic pyrazolo‐oxadiazepinediones with moderate diastereoselectivity (dr up to 3.7 : 1) and as racemic mixtures (3 examples). The method represents the first unambiguous example of an enantioselective reaction between ketenes and a 1,3‐dipole.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the synthesis of 5-aryl-6-(trifluoromethyl)-2,3-dihydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-one derivatives through a copper-catalyzed [3+2]-cycloaddition of azomethine imines with 3,3,3-trifluoropropyne (generated in situ from dehydrobromination of 2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene under base conditions) is developed. The advantages of this transformation are the broad substrate scope and the good functional group compatibility. The subsequent oxidation and nucleophilic substitution/aromatization provide a new approach to 4-trifluoromethylated pyrazol-1-yl propanoic acids.

Abstract
This work investigated computationally the regio-, stereo-, and enantio-selectivity of the reactions of azomethine imines with olefins, maleimides, and benzynes, important reactions towards the synthesis of heteropolycyclic, N,N'-fused, spirocyclic systems, which serve as building blocks for the synthesis of many pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and biologically active compounds. The results show that the thermally controlled diastereoselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction between quinolinium imide and methyl acrylate provides two regio-isomers: 1,4-regioisomer (N-C1, C-C2) and 1,3-regioisomer (N-C2, C-C1). The 1,4-regioisomer has cis and trans-stereoisomers while the 1,3-regioisomer has R-enantiomer and S-enantiomer, and the barriers for the formation of these isomers are 5.1, 19.1, 10.7, and 10.5 kcal/mol, respectively. The reaction between quinolinium imide and maleimide leads to the formation of two stereoisomers; cis-isomer and trans-isomer in which the cis-isomer is kinetically and thermodynamically favoured by 6.1 kcal/mol and 8.7 kcal/mol, respectively. The reaction between quinolinium imide and benzyne also leads to the formation of two stereoisomers through one transition state, with a barrier of 3.0 kcal/mol. Global electrophilicity index calculations show that the dipole acts as a good electrophile in the reaction and decreasing or increasing electrophilicity index has no correlation with the activation barriers. Abstract
A novel solvent incorporated sequential [3 + 2] cycloaddition/substitution reaction of azomethine imines with propargyl sulfur ylide was developed. In the actual three-component reaction, propargyl sulfur ylide acts as a dipole reagent to furnish the annulation with azomethine imines, followed by the protic solvents acting as nucleophiles. The simple, mild, catalyst-free and practical protocol allows for the formation of N,N-bicyclic pyrazolidinones in moderate to excellent yields. Further transformation and gram-scale operations could also be achieved efficiently.

Abstract
An efficient and convenient method to construct tetracyclic isoquinolinium salts via [Cp*RhCl2]2 catalyzed C–H activation and [4 + 2] annulation reactions in ethanol is described. This reaction is very fast and highly efficient in the green solvent ethanol. The reaction works with a broad substrate scope affording the products in good to excellent yields in a short time. Moreover, a ratio of S/C up to 10 000 could be achieved with gram scale synthesis. An efficient method to construct tetracyclic isoquinolinium salts via C–H activation and [4 + 2] annulation reactions in ethanol is described.![]()

Abstract
A new asymmetric synthesis of bicyclic pyrazolidinones through an alkaloid-catalyzed formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition of in situ generated ketenes and azomethine imines is described. The products were formed in good to excellent yields (52-99% for 17 examples), with good to excellent diastereoselectivity (dr 5:1 to 27:1 for 11 examples), and with excellent enantioselectivity in all cases (≥96% ee). This method represents the first unambiguous example of an enantioselective reaction between ketenes and a 1,3-dipole.
