Transition-Metal-Free Coupling Annulation of Arynes with Ketones and Alkynoates: Assembly of Functionalized Naphthalenes

Tandem Ene/[4 + 2] Cycloaddition Reaction for the Synthesis of 9-Benzylphenanthrenes from Arynes and α-(Bromomethyl)styrenes

A tandem reaction for the synthesis of phenanthrenes from arynes and α-(bromomethyl)styrenes is reported. The transformation proceeds via an ene reaction of α-(bromomethyl)styrenes with arynes, followed by a [4 + 2] cycloaddition reaction. The reaction generates 9-benzylphenanthrene derivatives in moderate to excellent yields.

Rh(III)-Catalyzed Tandem Reaction Access to (Quinazolin-2-yl)methanone Derivatives from 2,1-Benzisoxazoles and α-Azido Ketones

A Rh(III)-catalyzed tandem reaction for the synthesis of (quinazolin-2-yl)methanone derivatives has been explored from 2,1-benzisoxazoles and α-azido ketones. The transformation involves Rh(III)-catalyzed denitrogenation of α-azido ketones, aza-[4 + 2] cycloaddition, ring opening, and dehydration aromatization processes. Notably, the aza-[4 + 2] cycloaddition of an imine rhodium complex intermediate with 2,1-benzisoxazoles is the key to this reaction.

Cascade aryne insertion/vinylogous aldol reaction of vinyl-substituted β-keto/enol carbonyls

Cyclic and acyclic vinyl substituted β-keto/enol carbonyl substrates, on reaction with arynes, result in differentially substituted naphthyl carbocycles, hitherto difficult to synthesize with existing protocols. While the substitutions on the arynes have no role, the ring size of the cyclic β-keto/enol esters has a profound influence on the product formation.

Sequential σ-Bond Insertion/Benzannulation Involving Arynes: Selective Synthesis of Polysubstituted Naphthalenes

An interesting σ-bond insertion/benzannulation reaction for the synthesis of polysubstituted naphthalene derivatives has been developed from readily accessible ketones, arynes, and alkynoates. This practical and transition-metal-free method provides a novel route to diverse naphthalenes through a substrate-controlled rearrangement reaction with the cleavage of C-C bonds.

Tuning chemoselectivity in O-/N-arylation of 3-aryl-1,2,4-oxadiazolones with ortho-(trimethylsilyl)phenyl triflates via aryne insertion

A finely tunable chemoselectivity in arylation of 3-aryl-1,2,4-oxadiazolones with ortho-(trimethylsilyl)phenyl triflates is reported, including silver-catalysed O-arylation and metal-free N-arylation.

Aryne cycloaddition reactions of benzodioxasilines as aryne precursors generated by catalytic reductive ortho-C-H silylation of phenols with traceless acetal directing groups

Diversely substituted arylsilyl triflates, as aryne precursors for aryne cycloaddition reactions, were accessed from benzodioxasilines. Catalytic reductive C-H ortho-silylation of phenols with traceless acetal directing groups was exploited to prepare benzodioxasilines. Sequential addition of MeLi and then trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride to benzodioxasilines provided arylsilyl triflates in a single pot. Notably, this approach was successfully utilized to prepare sterically hindered 1,2,3-trisubstituted arylsilyl triflates, which ultimately underwent fluoride-mediated aryne cycloaddition.
