Abstract
The oxa-Pictet-Spengler reaction is arguably the most straightforward and modular way to construct the privileged isochroman motif, but its scope is largely limited to benzaldehyde derivatives and to electron-rich β-phenylethanols that lack substitution along the aliphatic chain. Here we describe a variant of this reaction starting from an epoxide, rather than an aldehyde, that greatly expands the scope and rate of the reaction (<1 h, 20 °C). Besides facilitating the initial Meinwald rearrangement, the use of hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as a solvent expands the electrophile scope to include partners equivalent to ketones, aliphatic aldehydes, and phenylacetyl aldehydes, and the nucleophile scope to include modestly electronically deactivated and highly substituted β-phenylethanols. The products could be easily further derivatised in the same pot by subsequent ring-opening, reductions, and intra- and intermolecular Friedel-Crafts reactions, also in HFIP. Finally, owing to the high pharmacological relevance of the isochroman motif, the synthesis of drug analogues was demonstrated.

Abstract
N-alkylation of amines is an important catalytic reaction in synthetic chemistry. Herein, we report a simple strategy for the N-alkylation of 2-aminopyridines with 1,2-diketones using BF3·OEt2 as a catalyst. The reaction proceeds under aerobic conditions, leading to the formation of a diverse range of substituted secondary amines in good to excellent yields. A close inspection of the mechanistic pathway using various spectroscopic techniques and the computational study revealed that the reaction proceeds through the formation of an iminium-keto intermediate with the liberation of CO2.

Abstract
Isochroman moieties are present in a wide variety of biologically active molecules, but converting isochromans to α-substituted derivatives under mild conditions is challenging. Herein, we report a mild, convenient protocol for synthesis of α-alkoxy isochroman derivatives by means of electrochemical α-C(sp3)-H/O-H cross-coupling reactions of isochromans and alcohols in the presence of benzoic acid, which facilitated the electro-oxidation process and increased the product yield. Various alcohols and isochromans, as well as other structurally similar substrates, gave moderate to high yields of the desired coupling products, and the reaction could be carried out on a gram scale.

Abstract
The first copper-catalyzed direct dehydrative alkynylation of 2H-chromene hemiketals with terminal alkynes has been uncovered. The use of cheap and readily available CuCl2 as the catalyst allowed the preparation of various 2,2-disubstituted 2-alkynylated 2H-chromenes in moderate to good yields, which compensates for the limitation of the current methods only suited for the synthesis of 2-monosubsituted 2-alkynylated 2H-chromenes.

Abstract
A new Brønsted acid-catalyzed oxo-cyclization of propargyl alcohols with azlactones to synthesize C2-azlactonized 2H-chromenes has been established that uses 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diyl hydrogen phosphate (BiNPO4H) as the catalyst and gives excellent diastereoselectivities (≥19:1 dr) in most cases. This protocol has a high compatibility with various substituents of substrates, offering a catalytic and useful entry to the fabrication of the synthetically important C2-functionalized 2H-chromene scaffold.

Abstract
As one type of chromene, 2H-chromenes represent important oxygen heterocycles, which not only widely exist in natural products, pharmaceutical agents and biologically relevant molecules, but have also been used broadly in materials science and organic synthesis. Two major synthetic strategies have been developed towards such compounds. This review mainly focuses on the recent advances in this field, including benzopyran ring formation involving cyclization reactions and the late-stage functionalization of the parent 2H-chromenes.

Abstract
A catalyst-free decarboxylative reaction between β-keto acids and 2H-chromene acetals in water was developed. This reaction featured a broad substrate scope and easily obtainable starting materials to afford α-functionalized 2H-chromenes in high yields. The synthetic value of this protocol was also demonstrated by the scale-up synthesis and versatile conversions of the title product into other useful compounds. In addition, control experiments indicated that water was essential for the reactivity. Mechanistic studies further revealed that the reaction proceeded through a self-promoted tandem pseudo-substitution and decarboxylation process.

Abstract
A practical and readily scalable reaction sequence was developed for the straightforward synthesis of a new family of larger π-conjugated naphthopyrans by a Brønsted acid-catalyzed aromatic annulation of alkoxyallenes with inert naphthols. The cascade pathway involves allylation/cyclization/debenzyloxylation/isomerization/dehydration. The new class of solid state diphenylmethylene substituted naphthopyrans are fluorescent emissive and proved to have aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior.

Abstract
The BF3·OEt2-mediated disproportionate coupling reaction of sodium sulfinates was found for the first time. In this reaction, various S-S(O)2 bonds can be formed, efficiently giving thiosulfonates in moderate to excellent yields. As a convenient protocol for the synthesis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical thiosulfonates, its reaction mechanism involves the formation of a thiyl radical and sulfonyl radical via a sulfinyl radical disproportionation. What is more, this transformation can also be applied practically as a gram-scale reaction and to the two-step synthesis of sulfone and sulfonamide in one pot in situ using thiosulfonate as an intermediate.

Abstract
An efficient copper-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling of 2H-chromenes and terminal alkynes mediated by DDQ has been established. A protic additive, EtOH, proved to be crucial for harmonizing the oxidation with a subsequent alkynylation step by retaining the oxidation state of an oxocarbenium ion in the form of acetal. The CDC reaction exhibits a good substrate scope, with a range of terminal aryl- and alkyl alkynes being well tolerated. The copper-catalyzed alkynylation of 2H-chromene acetals with terminal alkynes was also explored.
