Abstract
Archangiumide is the first known macrolide natural product comprising an endocyclic allene. For the ring strain that this linear substructure might entail, it was planned to unveil the allene at a very late stage of the projected total synthesis; in actual fact, this was achieved as the last step of the longest linear sequence by using an otherwise globally deprotected substrate. This unconventional timing was made possible by a gold catalyzed rearrangement of a macrocyclic propargyl benzyl ether derivative that uses a -PMB group as latent hydride source to unveil the signature cycloallene; the protecting group therefore gains a strategic role beyond its mere safeguarding function. Although the gold catalyzed reaction per se is stereoablative, the macrocyclic frame of the target was found to impose high selectivity and a stereoconvergent character on the transformation. The required substrate was formed by ring closing alkyne metathesis (RCAM) with the aid of a new air-stable molybdenum alkylidyne catalyst.

Abstract
The use of alkyl amines and ethers as traceless hydride donors in [1,5]-hydride transfer cascade reactions represents a promising strategy that greatly enriches redox-neutral hydride transfer chemistry. This review summarizes the remarkable progress made in this field, and focuses on (1) alkyl amines as traceless hydride donors in cascade [1,5]-hydride transfer/elimination reactions and (2) alkyl ethers as traceless hydride donors in [1,5]-hydride transfer cascade reactions. The reaction mechanisms, features, scope, limitations, and synthetic applications are included, where appropriate. Importantly, its powerful ability in allene synthesis and the combination with [Re]-vinylidene and carbocation chemistries render this strategy attractive enough to inspire chemists to develop colorful reactions for building molecular complexity.

Abstract
Phenyl azides substituted by an (alkylphenyl)ethynyl group facilitate benzylic sp3 (C-H) functionalization in the presence of a JohnPhosAu catalyst, resulting in indole-fused tetra- and pentacycles via divergent N- or C-cyclization. The chemoselectivity is influenced depending on the counter-anion, the electron density of the α-imino gold(I) carbene, and the alkyl groups stabilizing the benzylic carbocation originating from a 1,5-hydride shift. An isotopic labeling experiment demonstrates the involvement of an indolylgold(I) species resulting from a tautomerization that is much faster than the deauration. The formation of a benzylic sp3 (C-H) functionalization leading to an indole-fused seven-membered ring is also demonstrated.

Abstract
Direct C-H bond functionalization is a useful strategy for the straightforward formation of C-C and C-Heteroatom bonds. In the present work, a unique approach for the challenging electrophilic Au-catalyzed α-C-H bond functionalization of tertiary amines is presented. Electronic, steric and conformational synergistic effects exerted by the use of a malonate unit in the substrate were key to the success of this transformation. This new reactivity was applied to the synthesis of tetrahydro-γ-carboline products which, under oxidative conditions, could be converted into valuable structural motifs found in bioactive alkaloid natural products.

Abstract
Herein, inorganic base K3PO4 promoted divergent synthesis of CF3-substituted allenes, cyclopentenes, alkynes, and fluorinated enynes via regioselective nucleophilic addition of carbon nucleophiles to 2-trifluoromethyl-1,3-enynes was developed. With the choice of different carbon nucleophiles, various fluorinated compounds could be obtained under K3PO4/DMF reaction system. When malononitriles were used as nucleophiles, CF3-substituted allenes, cyclopentenes, and alkynes could be obtained, respectively. By using 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds as nucleophiles, ring-monofluorinated 4H-pyrans could be prepared, and 1,1-difluoro-1,3-enynes could be furnished with the participation of diethyl malonate. Moreover, these five kinds of fluorinated allenes, alkenes, and enynes are valuable building blocks.

Abstract
A gold-catalyzed room temperature allenation of terminal alkynes (ATA) with aldehydes affording 1,3-disubstituted allenes with diverse functional groups has been developed by identifying a gold(I) catalyst and an amine. The practicality of this reaction has been demonstrated by a ten gram-scale synthesis and the synthetic potentials have been demonstrated via various transformations and formal total synthesis of (-)-centrolobine. Mechanistic studies revealed that the gold catalyst, the aldehyde effect, the fluoroalkyl hydroxyl solvent (TFE or HFIP) and the structure of amine are vital in this room temperature ATA reaction.

Abstract
Copper-catalyzed reactions of terminal 1,3-diynes with electron-deficient azides to generate either 3-alkynyl or 2,3-dienyl imidamides and imidates are described. The selectivity depends on the diyne substituents and the nucleophile that reacts with the ketenimide intermediate generated from the corresponding triazole precursor. Reactions of 1,3-diynes containing a propargylic acetate afford [3]cumulenyl imidamides, while reactions using methanol as the trapping agent selectively generate 2,3-dienyl imidates. Five-membered heterocycles were obtained from 1,3-diynes containing a homopropargylic hydroxyl or amine substituent.

Abstract
Herein, we report on the palladium-catalyzed synthesis of trifluoromethylated, tetrasubstituted allenes from vinyl bromides and trifluoromethylated diazoalkanes in good to excellent yield. This reaction proceeds via oxidative addition of a Pd(0) complex with vinyl bromide. Subsequent base-promoted reductive elimination generates the allene. This methodology provides an efficient strategy even on gram scale to valuable trifluoromethylated, tetrasubstituted allenes under mild reaction conditions. The allene products can be used in acid catalyzed cyclization reactions to give trifluoromethylated indene products.

Abstract
Various new transformations of gem-difluoroalkenes leading to trifluoromethyl substituted compounds have been well established in the past years. However, the development of new transformations of gem-difluoroenynes lags much behind. Herein is reported the fluoroarylation of 1,1-difluoro-1,3-enynes with aryl halides in the presence of silver fluoride affording trisubstituted trifluoromethyl allenes under the catalysis of palladium. The reaction features mild conditions, high functional-group tolerance, and high regioselectivity.

Attempts to convert 1,1,2,2,7,7,8,8-octaethoxyocta-3,5-diyne to a symmetric allene by reduction with lithium aluminum hydride failed. Instead reduction accompanied by isomerization occurred and afforded 1,1,2,7,8,8-hexaethoxyocta-2,6-dien-4-yne as a mixture of three isomers in 63% total isolated yield.

Abstract
The TfOH-mediated reactions of 2,4-diaryl-1,1,1-trifluorobut-3-yn-2-oles (CF3-substituted diaryl propargyl alcohols) with arenes in CH2Cl2 afford 1,3-diaryl-1-CF3-indenes in yields up to 84%. This new process for synthesis of such CF3-indenes is complete at room temperature within one hour. The synthetic potential, scope, and limitations of this reaction were illustrated by more than 70 examples. The proposed reaction mechanism invokes the formation of highly reactive CF3-propargyl cation intermediates that can be trapped at the two mesomeric positions by the intermolecular nucleophilic attack of an arene partner with a subsequent intramolecular ring closure.

Abstract
A detailed theoretical analysis of the mechanism and chemoselectivity for gold(I)-catalyzed reaction of o-(alkynyl)styrene containing an isopropyl and a methyl at the terminal position of the alkene has been reported in this work. Two different counterions (SbF6 - and OTs-) were studied as model catalysts. According to our calculation, for SbF6 -, the reaction pathway is more prone to direct 1,2-H shifts (isopropyl H) than the elimination and ring expansion pathway. However, an elimination pathway affords the indenyl derivative by forming p-toluenesulfonic acid (HOTs), which may be the main pathway in the presence of OTs-. The chemoselectivity for the title reaction is mainly determined by the electronic effect of the counterion and the substituent rather than the steric effect. In other words, less basic SbF6 - mainly provides the charge separation effect rather than assisted proton elimination. However, the more basic OTs- mainly assist proton elimination through the formation of HOTs. In addition to the good agreement with the experimental data, the density functional theory results also provide a significant contribution to the understanding of the reaction mechanism.

Thioether-functionalized trifluoromethyl-alkynes, 1,3-dienes and allenes: divergent synthesis from reaction of 2-trifluoromethyl-1,3-conjugated enynes with sulfur nucleophiles. Abstract
A divergent synthesis of thioether-functionalized trifluoromethyl-alkynes, 1,3-dienes and allenes via regioselective nucleophilic addition of sulfur nucleophiles to 2-trifluoromethyl-1,3-conjugated enynes was developed. The addition patterns depend on the type of enyne, sulfur nucleophile and reaction conditions used. 1,4-Addition leading to thioether-functionalized trifluoromethyl-allenes was realized when enynes possessing electron-withdrawing aryl groups on the alkyne moiety were used as reaction partners and alkanethiols were used as nucleophiles, whereas solvent-controlled construction of thioether-functionalized 1,3-dienes and alkynes was realized, respectively, via a 3,4-addition pattern or 1,2-addition pattern if thiophenols were applied as nucleophiles. The three types of compounds containing both sulfur and fluorine elements are valuable building blocks for synthesis of multifunctional fluorinated vinyl sulfides and thiophene derivatives. A divergent synthesis of thioether-functionalized trifluoromethyl-alkynes, 1,3-dienes and allenes viaregioselective nucleophilic addition of sulfur nucleophiles to 2-trifluoromethyl-1,3-conjugated enynes was developed.![]()

Abstract
Using an iridium catalyst modified by PhanePhos, CF3-allenes react with methanol to form branched products of hydrohydroxymethylation as single regioisomers with excellent levels of enantiomeric enrichment. This hydrogen autotransfer process enables catalytic enantioselective formation of acyclic CF3-bearing all-carbon quaternary stereocenters in the absence of stoichiometric metals or byproducts.
