Abstract
We present here a new method for the synthesis of 2-substituted-3-aryl benzoheterocycles through a more challenging constrained [1,5]-type Friedel-Crafts reaction/rearrangement and aromatization process. By using the readily available 2-aryoxy-1,3-indandiones and 2-arylamino-1,3-indandiones, a range of 2-substituted-3-aryl benzofurans and indoles were prepared in good to excellent yields (yields up to 86%) under the catalysis of CF3SO3H or Sm(OTf)3. Compared with previous methods for constructing similar structures, this approach offers several advantages, including the use of easily accessible starting materials, mild reaction conditions, high yield, excellent regio- and diastereoselectivity, and a broad substrate scope.

Abstract
A highly efficient copper(I)-catalyzed approach for the synthesis of 1,1'-bisindoles that is based on the formation of four bonds in one step has been developed. The unprecedented three component reaction between one molecule of a 1,2-bis(2-bromoaryl)hydrazine and two molecules of a 1,3-diketone employing 10 mol% CuI as a catalyst and Cs2CO3 as a base in DMSO at 100 °C for 24 h delivers substituted 1,1'-bisindoles with yields up to 92%. The new method proceeds as a double domino condensation/Ullmann type C-C coupling. It allows an efficient and practical access to substituted 1,1'-bisindoles in one step from easily available starting materials.

Abstract
Tunable electrocatalytic annulation reactions of o-arylalkynylanilines have been established, leading to green and divergent syntheses of skeletally diverse indoles by adjusting the electrolytes and the solvents. The presence of ammonium halides as the electrolytes enabled the halogenation of o-arylalkynylanilines to give C3-halogenated indoles whereas naphtho[1',2':4,5]furo[3,2-b]indoles could be obtained by changing the electrolyte from ammonium halides to KI. Interestingly, by combining acetone as the solvent and both NH4I and NH4Cl as the electrolytes, the reaction worked through an intramolecular annulation and [5 + 1] cyclization cascade to form naphtho[1',2':5,6][1,3]oxazino[3,4-a]indoles.

A metal-free protocol
for the synthesis of substituted 1,6-dihydropyridines
with quaternary stereogenic centers via a cascade aza-Wittig/6π-electrocyclization
process has been developed. The high functional group compatibility
and broad scope of this method were demonstrated by using a wide range
of easily available vinyliminophosphoranes and ketones, with
yields up to 97%. A modification of the obtained products allowed
for an increase in complexity and chemical diversity. Finally, attempts
for asymmetric synthesis of 1,6-dihydropyridines are demonstrated.

Abstract
Superbenzene porphyrin conjugates find wide range of applications from nonlinear optical materials to semiconductors. Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of 5,15-bis(3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-10,20-bis(pentaphenylphenyl)phenylporphyrin and its Zinc-metallated complex. Oxidative planarization of 5,15-bis(3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-10,20-bis(pentaphenylphenyl)phenylporphyrin and its metallated complex was carried out by using NOBF4 as an oxidizing agent. The formation of superbenzene porphyrin conjugates validates its Scholl type reactions. The laboratory-synthesized porphyrin conjugates were characterized experimentally using spectroscopic techniques such as 1H NMR, 13C NMR, electron spin resonance, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy for structural conformation. In addition, density functional theory calculations were carried out to validate the experimental results. The theoretical and experimental results show that the 4-(pentaphenylphenyl)phenyl ligand increases the stability, optical properties, and rate of planarization of synthesized porphyrins. The conjugates exhibited intense and distant electronic communication between two hexabenzocoronene sites, taking advantage of porphyrin as a π-spacer. The π-radical cation has also been found to be an intermediate in oxidative C-C bond formation. NICS calculations support such a conclusion.

Abstract
The transformation of (hetero)arene cation radicals has become a powerful tool for the construction of highly functionalized (hetero)arenes. These (hetero)arene cation radicals could be generated under electrochemical, photochemical or chemical oxidation systems. The in situ generated (hetero)arene cation radicals can be attacked by various nucleophiles, such as (hetero)aromatics and anions, yielding structurally diverse molecules. Recently, a large number of impressive heteroarene modifications have been designed by this strategy. This review summarizes the advances in heteroarene modification via reactions of in situ formed (hetero)arene cation radicals, ranging from 2010 to 2020.

Abstract
Efficient syntheses that incorporate thiophene units into different extended conjugation systems are of interest as a result of the prevalence of sulfur-rich aromatics in organic electronics. Self-organization by using liquid crystal properties is also desirable for optimal processing of organic electronics and optical devices. In this article, we describe a two-step process to access extended regioisomers of polyaromatics with different shapes. This method involves an efficient single or double benzannulation from an alkyne precursor followed by Scholl cyclization. In spite of their unconventional nondiscoid shape, these materials display stable columnar liquid crystal phases. We examine the photophysical and electrochemical properties and find that structurally very similar thiophene-fused polyaromatics display significant differences in their properties.

Oxidative aromatic coupling occupies a fundamental place in the modern chemistry of aromatic compounds. It is a method of choice for the assembly of large and bewildering architectures. Considerable effort was also devoted to applications of the Scholl reaction for the synthesis of chiral biphenols and natural products. The ability to form biaryl linkages without any prefunctionalization provides an efficient pathway to many complex structures. Although the chemistry of this process is only now becoming fully understood, this reaction continues to both fascinate and challenge researchers. This is especially true for heterocoupling, that is, oxidative aromatic coupling with the chemoselective formation of a C-C bond between two different arenes. Analysis of the progress achieved in this field since 2013 reveals that many groups have contributed by pushing the boundary of structural possibilities, expanding into surface-assisted (cyclo)dehydrogenation, and developing new reagents.

Abstract
We have developed a mild and direct dimerization of dihydropyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines through FeCl3-mediated oxidative homocoupling. A series of dimeric dihydropyrroloisoquinoline derivatives were obtained in acceptable to excellent yields (up to >99%). Attempts to expand this dimerization system to the synthesis of dimeric pyrroles failed and chlorination products were obtained in most cases instead of dimeric pyrroles.

Abstract
The first organocatalysed, metal-free cross-nucleophile coupling of indoles with α-branched aldehydes forming acyclic stereoselective quaternary carbon centres is presented. Applying an amino acid-derived catalyst with suitable organic oxidants affords the desired enantioenriched indole functionalised products with moderate to excellent yield and enantioselectivity. Two metal-free oxidative protocols employing either DDQ or a sequential approach that uses two organocatalysts to facilitate the use of O2 as the terminal oxidant are disclosed. These methods are compatible with various indoles ranging from electron-rich to -deficient substituents at the C-2, -5, -6, and -7-positions reacting with a series of different α-branched aldehydes.

Abstract
A novel naphthotetraindole (NTI) core was synthesized in two steps via the McMurry reaction and a [Cu]/[Ag]-promoted intramolecular dehydrogenative homocoupling reaction. NTI shows a unique X-shaped double-helical structure as determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The hole-transport mobility of the bare NTI core was measured to be 2.3 × 10-5 cm2 V-1 s-1, which is comparable with the commonly used Spiro-OMeTAD.

Abstract
Catalytic cross-dehydrogenative coupling of heteroarenes with thiophenols and phenothiazines has been developed under mild and environmentally benign reaction conditions. For the first time, NOx+ was applied for catalytic C-S and C-N bond formation. A comprehensive scope for the C-H/S-H and C-H/N-H cross-dehydrogenative coupling was demonstrated with >60 examples. The sustainable cross-coupling conditions utilize ambient oxygen as the terminal oxidant, while water is the sole by-product.

Abstract
A new method for the synthesis of bi-heteroaryls is reported, based on the umpolung of indoles with benziodoxol(on)e hypervalent iodine reagents (IndoleBX). The oxidative coupling of IndoleBX with an equimolar amount of electron-rich benzenes, indoles, pyrroles, and thiophenes proceeded under mild transition-metal-free conditions. Functionalized non-symmetrical bi-indolyl heterocycles were accessed efficiently. Introduction of a new type of C2-substituted indole benziodoxole reagents further allowed extending the scope of the reaction to NH unprotected and C3-alkylated indoles. The obtained bi-heterocycles are important building blocks in synthetic and medicinal chemistry, and could be easily transformed into more complex heterocyclic systems.
