Abstract
Eugenol, the major constituent of clove oil, has been explored as an essential natural ingredient for ages owing to its versatile pharmacological properties. However, to date, the coordination chemistry of eugenol derivatives has not been much explored. In the present work, an eugenol-based Schiff base ligand (HL) was synthesized and structurally confirmed through ESI-MS, NMR, and FT-IR spectroscopy studies. Consequently, the N,O-donor chelating ligand HL was coordinated with Cd2+, in the presence of bridging pseudohalides (thiocyanate, SCN-, and dicyanamide, N(CN)2-) to synthesize two luminescent coordination polymers (CPs 1 and 2): [Cd2(L)2(X)2]n (where HL = 4-allyl-2-(((2-(benzylamino)ethyl) imino)methyl)-6-methoxyphenol and Xs are bridging pseudohalides, i.e., SCN- and N(CN)2-) on a Cd-eugenol scaffold. The CPs depicted structural diversity, bulk-phase purity, thermal stability, and the presence of interlayer supramolecular C-H⋯π interactions together with C-H⋯S (for CP 1) and C-H⋯N (for CP 2) interactions. The CPs further exemplified themselves as selective and sensitive 'turn-off' probes towards trinitrophenol (TNP) (quenching efficiency: 82.02% and 83.86% for 1 and 2) among a pool of hazardous nitroaromatic compounds (NACs). Accordingly, 1 and 2 exhibited an ultralow limit of detection (LOD) of 0.29 and 0.15 μM, with high quenching constants (KSV) of 5.91 × 104 and 17.60 × 104 M-1, respectively. In addition, TNP sensing events were evidenced to be recyclable and exhibited fast response (∼31 s, 1, and ∼40 s, 2), which increased its real-world viability. Vapor phase TNP sensing was also accomplished upon drop-casted CP films. Experimental investigations and theoretical DFT study confirmed the cooperative occurrence of RET-IFE-PET-collisional quenching and non-covalent π⋯π stacking as key factors involved in the TNP sensing performance. The competency of 1 and 2 in the detection of TNP from several complex environmental matrices (CEMs), viz. matchstick powder, river and sewage water, and soil specimens, was also established with good recovery (∼66-86% and ∼68-93% for 1 and 2, respectively) and high KSV values (3.90-11.39 × 104 and 6.17-18.79 × 104 M-1 for 1 and 2, respectively).

Abstract
Globally, the release of greenhouse gases primarily carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to our Earth's surface has climbed by about 45% to its present atmospheric concentration rate of 420 parts per million (ppm) during the industrial era. An unprecedented rise in atmospheric CO2 concentration has been claimed to lead to significant factors such as global warming potential (GWP) and climate change effects. An increase in atmospheric CO2 concentrations is a serious threat to the environment. Recent research efforts have focused on mitigating emissions from anthropogenic point sources. Adsorption-based post-combustion CO2 capture using solid adsorbents is the most effective and efficient method for mitigating gas adsorption in the exhaust system. In the current study, activated carbons are obtained from three potential biomass, namely, (i) coconut shell, (ii) rice husk, and (iii) eucalyptus wood, through a - single-stage activation method. The prepared activated carbon materials are analyzed using proximate and ultimate analyses. Further investigations are performed using different characterization techniques to ensure their adsorption efficiency. Adsorbents are packed one after the other in an in-house fabricated double adsorption chamber and coupled to the exhaust unit of a generator. Test experiments are conducted to examine adsorbents' capture efficiency in emissions mitigation. Adsorbents' adsorption parameters are evaluated in experimental investigations. At 2.5 bar and 50 °C, a maximum loading capacity of samples is achieved by 4.85 mmol/g, 4.58 mmol/g, and 5.96 mmol/g for coconut shell, rice husk, and eucalyptus wood adsorbents, respectively. With a post-combustion carbon adsorption chamber, CO2 and NO are captured about 40-64% and 38-58%, respectively, for all three adsorbents. The thermodynamic parameter of isosteric heat of adsorption value is below 40 kJ/mol, ensuring physisorption for all adsorbents.

Abstract
Cyclodextrin (CD), a cyclic oligosaccharide from enzymatic starch breakdown, plays a crucial role in pharmaceuticals, food, agriculture, textiles, biotechnology, chemicals, and environmental applications, including water and wastewater treatment. In this study, a statistical analysis was performed using VOSviewer and Citespace to scrutinize 2038 articles published from 1993 to 2022. The investigation unveiled a notable upsurge in pertinent articles and citation counts, with China and USA contributing the highest publication volumes. The prevailing research focus predominantly revolves around the application of CD-based materials used as adsorbents to remove conventional contaminants such as dyes and metals. The CD chemistry allows the construction of materials with various architectures, including cross-linked, grafted, hybrid or supported systems. The main adsorbents are cross-linked CD polymers, including nanosponges, fibres and hybrid composites. Additionally, research efforts are actually concentrated on the synthesis of CD-based membranes, CD@graphene oxide, and CD@TiO2. These materials are proposed as adsorbents to remove emerging pollutants. By employing bibliometric analysis, this study delivers a comprehensive retrospective review and synthesis of research concerning CD-based adsorbents for the removal of contaminants from wastewater, thereby offering valuable insights for future large-scale application of CD-based adsorption materials.

Abstract
Although electrospinning (e-spinning) has witnessed rapid development in recent years, it has also been criticized by environmentalists due to the use of organic solvents. Therefore, aqueous e-spinning (green e-spinning) is considered a more attractive technique. However, considering the poor water resistance and mechanical properties of electrospun (e-spun) nanofibers, cross-linking is a perfect solution. In this review, we systematically discuss the cross-linking e-spinning system for the first time, including cross-linking strategies (in situ, liquid immersion, vapor, and spray cross-linking), cross-linking mechanism (physical and chemical cross-linking) of e-spun nanofibers, and the various applications (e.g., tissue engineering, drug delivery, water treatment, food packaging, and sensors) of cross-linked e-spun nanofibers. Among them, we highlight several cross-linking methods, including UV light cross-linking, electron beam cross-linking, glutaraldehyde (and other commonly used cross-linking agents) chemical cross-linking, thermal cross-linking, and enzymatic cross-linking. Finally, we confirm the significance of cross-linking e-spinning and reveal the problems in the construction of this system.

Abstract
Chitosan in situ grown polyamidoamine (CTS-Gx PAMAM (x = 0, 1, 2, 3)) aerogels were fabricated by a facile one-step freeze-drying method, with glutaraldehyde serving as a crosslinker. The three-dimensional skeletal structure of aerogel provided numerous adsorption sites and accelerated the effective mass transfer of pollutants. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm studies of the two anionic dyes were consistent with the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models, indicating that the removal of rose bengal (RB) and sunset yellow (SY) was a monolayer chemisorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of RB and SY reached 370.28 mg/g and 343.31 mg/g, respectively. After five adsorption-desorption cycles, the adsorption capacities of the two anionic dyes reached 81.10% and 84.06% of the initial adsorption capacities, respectively. The major mechanism between the aerogels and dyes was systematically investigated based on using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analyses, confirming that electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions were the main driving forces for the superior adsorption performance. Furthermore, the CTS-G2 PAMAM aerogel exhibited good filtration and separation performance. Overall, the novel aerogel adsorbent possesses excellent theoretical guidance and practical application potential for the purification of anionic dyes.

Abstract
A simple and efficient sample pretreatment technology is very important for the accurate determination of trace drug residues in foods to ensure food safety. Herein, we report a new carboxyl group-functionalized ionic liquid hybrid solid- phase adsorbent (PS-IL-COOH) for the highly efficient extraction and quantitative determination of diclofenac sodium (DS) residue in milk samples. It was found that the adsorption efficiency of PS-IL-COOH for the ppb level of DS was greater than 93.0%, the adsorption capacity was 934.1 mg/g, and the enrichment factor was 620.0, which surpass most of the previously reported values for DS adsorbents. The high concentration of salts did not interfere with the adsorption of DS. Importantly, the recovery of DS was above 90% after 16 adsorption--regeneration cycles. The synergistic effect of the multiple interactions was found to be the main factor for the high efficiency of DS adsorption. The proposed method was applied to the extraction and detection of DS in milk samples, with the relative recovery ranging from 88.2 to 103.0%.

Abstract
Suitable relative humidity is essential for the preservation of cultural relics, food storage, and so on. A special material that can regulate the relative humidity in the microenvironment is particularly important. In this work, several innovative electrospun films with reversible photoresponsive wettability and the ability to regulate microenvironmental relative humidity were prepared. The spiropyran unit of the synthesized copolymer played the most important role in humidity regulation due to its reversible transition between a nonpolar ring-closed state and a polar ring-opened state induced by alternating ultraviolet/visible illumination. More interestingly, the introduction of acrylic acid segments exhibited a controllable hydrogen bond synergistic effect for increasing the range of humidity regulation. The color change and the reversible change ranges of wettability and microenvironmental relative humidity under ultraviolet/visible irradiation are all closely related to the number of acrylic acid segments. Cassie theory, density functional theory (DFT), and interaction region indicator (IRI) analysis were used to characterize this phenomenon. Electrospinning is a promising method to achieve large-scale production that can put such material into practical applications.

Abstract
p-sulphonated calix[4]arene (p-SOCX) functionalized cellulose acetate/graphene oxide (CA/GO) nanofibers were successfully prepared via the electrospinning technique. The presence of p-SOCX within the fiber matrix was ascertained using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and Carbon-Hydrogen-Nitrogen-Sulphur elemental analyses. Apparent changes in morphology of the samples were observed under scanning electron microscope where fiber diameters increased with increasing p-SOCX content. Preliminary dye removal test at different pH, dosage, and temperature of functionalized CA/GO nanofiber demonstrates enhanced adsorption capacity of methylene blue in presence of p-SOCX compared to pristine CA nanofiber and CA/GO nanofiber at an optimum pH 8. The highest removal efficiency obtained was 88.84% with initial methylene blue dye concentration of 10 mg/L, adsorbent dosage of 20 mg/10 mL, contact time of 30 min at room temperature ca. 293 K.

Abstract
Porous membranes with fascinating super-wettable surface and tunable porous architecture for oil-water separation have been developed rapidly, however, the serious secondary marine pollution caused by the non-degradable defectiveness of membranes themselves is still a thorny problem. Herein, we create an eco-friendly membrane with biomimetic cobweb-like nanostructure via assembling two-dimensional bacterial cellulose nanonets on the starch nanofibrous membrane on a large scale. The obtained novel composite membranes exhibit integrated properties of sub-micron pore size, ultrahigh porosity, superhydrophilicity, and underwater superoleophobicity, stemming from the synergistic effect of the hydrated nanonet-skin-layer and porous starch matrix. By virtue of the narrow-distributed sub-micron pores, ultrahigh porosity, and ultrathin thickness, the resulting membrane shows outstanding performance of excellent separation efficiency (up to 99.996%), high percolation flux (maximum of 15968 L m-2 h-1), well surpassing the conventional microfiltration membranes. More significantly, with the advantage of biodegradability and anti-oil-fouling property, the membrane could serve as the robust platform for long-term wastewater remediation.

Abstract
This work focuses on the manufacture of core-sheath nanofibers (NFs) based on chitosan (CHT) as sheath and cyclodextrin polymer (PCD) as core and loaded with triclosan (TCL). In parallel, monolithic NFs consisting of blended CHT-PCD and TCL were prepared. Nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). SEM displayed the morphology of NFs and the structure of the nanowebs, while TEM evidenced the core-sheath structure of NFs prepared by coaxial electrospinning. The core diameters and sheath thicknesses were found dependent on respective flow rates of both precursor solutions. Nanofibers stability and TCL release in aqueous medium were studied and correlated with the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Results showed that the release profiles of TCL and therefore the antibacterial activity were directly related to the type of nanofibers. In the case of monolithic nanofibers, the NFs matrix was composed of polyelectrolyte complex (PEC formed between CHT and PCD) and resulted in a prolonged release of TCL and a sustained antibacterial effect. In the case of core-sheath NFs, the PEC was formed only at the core-sheath interface, leading to less stable NFs and therefore to a faster release of TCL, and to a less extended antibacterial activity compared to monolithic ones.

Abstract
In the present study, TiO2-montmorillonite (MMT) composites were synthesized hydrothermally under variable conditions, including the TiO2/MMT mass ratio, reaction pH, reaction temperature, and dwelling time. These samples were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy% (UV-Vis DRS), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), transient photocurrent responses, photoluminescence (PL) spectra, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated as the ability to promote the visible-light-driven degradation of 30 mg/L of aqueous methylene blue, which was maximized for the composite with a TiO2 mass ratio of 30 wt% prepared at a pH of 6, a reaction temperature of 160 °C, and a dwelling time of 24 h (denoted as 30%-TM), which achieved a methylene blue removal efficiency of 95.6%, which was 4.9 times higher than that of pure TiO2. The unit cell volume and crystallite size of 30%-TM were 92.43 Å3 and 9.28 nm, respectively, with a relatively uniform distribution of TiO2 particles on the MMT’s surface. In addition, 30%-TM had a large specific surface area, a strong light absorption capacity, and a high Ti3+ content among the studied catalysts. Thus, the present study provides a basis for the synthesis of composites with controlled structures.

Abstract
The coexistence of pathogenic microorganisms and refractory organic chemicals in water nurtures certain biological and chemical risks to human beings and the water environment as a whole. For an environmentally friendly utilization of water cleaning and recycling technologies, a bifunctional cationic cyclodextrin material (GD-DTAC) with adsorption and bactericidal function was designed. By a simple crosslinking method, GD-DTAC was prepared with graphene supported citric acid-β-cyclodextrin polymer (GD) and dimethyldodecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ammonium chloride (DTAC). Following the introduction of rich quaternary ammonium groups by DTAC, GD-DTAC realized a double regulation of surface positive charge and wettability. The maximum adsorption capacities of Roxarsone (ROX), Methyl Orange (MO) and Bisphenol A (BPA) were 153.59 mg/g, 445.60 mg/g and 237.90 mg/g, respectively. Antibacterial activity tests showed the efficiency of DTAC not only for enhanced adhesion resistance, but it also realized the sterilization function. This work displays the potential of the prepared bifunctional materials for the removal of pollutants from wastewater as well as the suppression of micro-pollutants. The successful preparation of GD-DTAC provided a basis for the bifunctional material, which showed a great potential in adsorption and antibiosis.

Abstract
Water pollution, which has become a global problem in parallel with environmental pollution, is a problem that needs to be solved urgently, considering the gradual depletion of water resources. The inadequacy of the water treatment methods and the materials used somehow directed the researchers to look for dual character structures such as biocompatible and biodegradable β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). β-CD, which is normally insoluble in water, is used in demanding wastewater applications by being modified with the help of different agents to be water soluble or transformed into polymeric adsorbents as a result of co-polymerization via cross-linkers. In this way, in addition to the host-guest interactions offered by β-CD, secondary forces arising from these interactions provide advantages in terms of regeneration and reusability. However, the adsorption efficiency and synthesis steps need to be improved. Based on the current studies presented in this review, in which cross-linkers and modification methods are also mentioned, suggestions for novel synthesis methods of new-generation β-CD-based materials, criticisms, and recent methods of removal of micropollutants such as heavy metals, industrial dyes, harmful biomolecules, and pharmaceutics wastes are mentioned.

Abstract
Water is needed for food processing facilities to carry out a number of tasks, including moving goods, washing, processing, and cleaning operations. This causes them to produce wastewater effluent, and they are typically undesirable since it contains a high volume of suspended solids, bacteria, dyestuffs, salts, oils, fats, chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand. Therefore, treatment of food industry wastewater effluent is critical in improving process conditions, socio-economic benefits and our environmental. This short review summarizes the role of available membrane technologies that have been employed for food wastewater treatment and analyse their performance. Particularly, electrospun nanofiber membrane technology is revealed as an emerging membrane science and technology area producing materials of increasing performance and effectiveness in treating wastewater. This review reveals the challenges and perspectives that will assist in treating the food industry wastewater by developing novel membrane technologies.

Abstract
A novel composite (nZVI/Pd-AC) was prepared by loading nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) and Pd on activated carbon (AC) electrode under electrodeposition with ultrasound, which was used to reductive degradation of methylene blue (MB). The loading contents of Fe and Pd in composite materials were 15.84% and 2.06%, respectively. XPS results further confirmed that the as-prepared material contained Fe0 and Pd0. Without external conditions, MB could be degraded in the presence of nZVI/Pd-AC and reached equilibrium within 180 min. To investigate the reusability, the re-electrodeposition strategy was effective to refresh the active sites of nZVI/Pd-AC, and the removal efficiency only reduced by 4.51% in five circles indicating the good reusability of nZVI/Pd-AC composites. GC-MS was used to identify possible degradation pathways of MB; the results showed that the degradation products were mainly N, N-dimethylaniline and 2-amino-5-dimethylamino-benzenesulfonic acid. And the S-C, C-N bonds are the sites easier to be attacked.

Abstract
Currently, owing to the single-molecule-level sensitivity and highly informative spectroscopic characteristics, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is regarded as the most direct and effective detection technique. However, SERS still faces several challenges in its practical applications, such as the complex matrix interferences, and low sensitivity to the molecules of intrinsic small cross-sections or weak affinity to the surface of metals. Here, we show an enrichment-typed sensing strategy with both excellent selectivity and ultrahigh detection sensitivity based on a powerful porous composite material, called mesoporous nanosponge. The nanosponge consists of porous β-cyclodextrin polymers immobilized with magnetic NPs, demonstrating remarkable capability of effective and fast removal of organic micropollutants, e.g., ~90% removal efficiency within ~1 min, and an enrichment factor up to ~103. By means of this current enrichment strategy, the limit of detection for typical organic pollutants can be significantly improved by 2~3 orders of magnitude. Consequently, the current enrichment strategy is proved to be applicable in a variety of fields for portable and fast detection, such as Raman and fluorescent sensing.

Abstract
2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) nanofiber films have high surface-to-volume ratio and show high dissolution rate of hydrophobic drugs. However, the solubility-enhancement effect of HPβCD films may not be enough to include an effective dose in a sublingually administrable film. Moreover, unmodified HPβCD films are very brittle and difficultly transported and/or handled. So, the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a plasticizer was suggested to improve their ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and solubilization of hydrophobic drugs. Accordingly, six nanofiber films were developed and characterized, using three molecular weights of PEG (400, 1500 and 6000 Da) with two concentrations each (1:100 and 2:100 PEG:HPβCD), in addition to the unmodified HPβCD nanofibrous film. The results revealed that adding 1:100 of PEG 400 increases the UTS (∼2-fold) and the average fiber diameter (AFD) (∼3-fold). Moreover, the addition of PEG 400 significantly increased the solubility of two hydrophobic model drugs; coumarin (up to 7.7-fold of the original solubility) and 2-nitroimidazole (up to 1.6-fold of the original solubility). However, with higher PEG concentration/molecular weight, both AFD and UTS of the films decreased. On the other hand, it was noted that the solubility of the two model drugs decreased upon using 1500-Da PEG, and then increased with 6000-Da PEG.

Abstract
Designing a photocatalyst with high efficiency using semiconductor materials emerges as a promising approach for the treatment of wastewater. At the same time, it is very essential to develop nondestructive, green, and sustainable techniques for the degradation of refractory pollutants. Here, we have demonstrated a facile route to prepare iron oxyhydroxide nanorods (β-FeOOH) without employment of any templating agent via a light-driven solution chemistry pathway and explored the as-prepared nanorods as the photo-Fenton catalyst under solar light irradiation. The photocatalytic experiments were performed toward the degradation of the aqueous solution of two different pollutants, namely, methylene blue and rhodamine B dyes. We have illustrated the effect of pH of the solution together with the concentration of H2O2 during the degradation process and optimized the solution pH as well as the H2O2 concentration. The superb photocatalytic efficiency of β-FeOOH is attributed to the generation of reactive oxygen species in the presence of solar light, and these photo-produced reactive oxygen species assist the degradation process. The excellent photocatalytic efficacy and sustainability of β-FeOOH nanorods along with their effortless synthesis approach point to a cost-effective and environmentally benign pathway in fabricating a highly active photocatalyst for the degradation of organic dyes.

Abstract
Heavy metals and endocrine disrupters often co-exist in wastewater, while their possible competition behaviours make uptake removal more challenging. Therefore, β-Cyclodextrin based nanocomposite adsorbent was successfully fabricated (β-Cyclodextrin/ZrO2) for the simultaneous uptake of Pb(II) and Bisphenol A from wastewater. FTIR, XRD, and XPS confirmed the successful fabrication of the β-Cyclodextrin/ZrO2 nanocomposite. In this setting, oxygen-containing groups are primarily responsible for the Pb(II) binding, while the β-Cyclodextrin cavities adsorb Bisphenol A through host-guest interaction, enabling the simultaneous removal of Pb(II) and Bisphenol A. In the mono contaminant system, the nanocomposite displayed prominent removal ability toward Pb(II) and Bisphenol A with adsorption characteristics of pseudo-second-order, Langmuir, and Freundlich isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacities were identified for Pb(II) and Bisphenol A to be 274.4 mg/g and 174.9 mg/g at 298 K, respectively. Most importantly, the β-Cyclodextrin/ZrO2 could efficiently attain simultaneous removal of Pb(II) and Bisphenol A by avoiding their competitive behaviours was due to the different adsorption mechanisms (electrostatic interaction and host-guest interaction). Moreover, the adsorbed Pb(II) and Bisphenol A could be successfully recovered with a slight decline in nanocomposite removal performance even after 4 cycles in the binary-component system. All these findings provide insights into the fabrication of highly effective adsorbent with separated adsorption sites to treat wastewater bearing heavy metal and endocrine disrupters.

Abstract
Water pollution originating from organic dyes is endangering the survival and development of society; however, adsorbents with high capacity (>5000 mg g-1) for the fast removal (≤30 min) of Congo Red (CR) in aqueous solution have been not reported to date. In the present work, an acid-base stably layered MOF, [Cd(H2L)(BS)2]n·2nH2O (L-MOF-1, H2L = N1,N2-bis(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine, BS = benzenesulfonate), was hydrothermally prepared. L-MOF-1 exhibited high-performance adsorption of CR in aqueous solution at room temperature. The experimental adsorption capacity of the L-MOF-1 adsorbent towards CR reached up to about 12 000 mg g-1 in 20 min in the pH range of 2.2-4.7, which is the best adsorbent with the highest capacity and fastest adsorption of CR to date. The spontaneous adsorption process can be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. Meanwhile, the L-MOF-1 absorbent possessed a highly positive zeta potential in acid condition (even at pH = 2.2, zeta potential = 36.2 mV). Its good adsorption performance mainly originates from its strong electrostatic attraction with CR in acidic condition, together with diverse hydrogen bonds and ππ stacking interactions. Furthermore, the L-MOF-1 absorbent exhibited good selectivity and could be reused five times through simply washing, where its adsorption efficiency was hardly affected. Therefore, L-MOF-1 is a potential absorbent for effectively removing CR from dye wastewater.

Abstract
The new challenges to adsorption are imposed for the diversity of contaminants in wastewater in recent years. Herein, titanate-based materials (peroxide sodium titanate, PST) were modified by three different kinds of surface charged surfactant: dodecyl dimethyl betaine (BS-PST), sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS-PST) and dodecyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DTAC-PST) to enhance the versatile adsorption performance for four typical contaminants including ammonia nitrogen (NH4+, inorganic and cationic), phosphate (H2PO4-, inorganic and anionic), methylene blue (MB, organic and cationic) and Acid Red G (ARG, organic and anionic). The batch adsorption experiments showed that the DTAC-PST exhibited better in the removal of MB, ARG and H2PO4- than that of other adsorbents. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of DTAC-PST is 49.28 mg g-1 for NH4+, 34.74 mg g-1 for TP, 81.87 mg g-1 for MB and 545.81 mg g-1 for ARG. The simultaneous adsorption results showed that the concentration (10 mg L-1 of NH4+, 3 mg L-1 of TP, 50 mg L-1 of MB and 50 mg L-1 of ARG) of all the four chemicals in simulated wastewater could be controlled to be below the discharge levels in China (GB, 18918-2002) by DTAC-PST at the pH of 3.0. The FT-IR spectra demonstrated that ion exchange was the main way for NH4+ removal, however, electrostatic attraction and ligand exchange were the reason for MB adsorption. In addition, C-N+ from DTAC modification made main contribution to the excellent adsorption performance for ARG and H2PO4-. The saturated DTAC-PST could be conveniently regenerated by 0.5 mol L-1 NaOH solution and maintained about 80% of adsorption capacity after five cycles.

Abstract
The chemistry of the host-guest complex formation has received much attention as a highly efficient approach for use to develop economical adsorbents for water purification. In the present study, the synthesis of three β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) inclusion complexes with the oil orange SS (OOSS) azo dye as a guest molecule and their potential applications in water purification are described. The complexes were synthesized by the coprecipitation method and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). FTIR and thermal analyses confirmed the encapsulation of OOSS dye within the hydrophobic cavity of β-CD. The encapsulation of hydrophobic dye inside the β-CD cavity was mainly due to the hydrophobic-hydrophobic interaction. The results showed that the stability of the OOSS dye had been improved after the complexation. The effect of three different compositions of the host-guest complexes was analyzed. The present study demonstrated that the hydrophobic dye could be removed from aqueous solution via inclusion complex formation. Thus, it can play a significant role in removing the highly toxic OOSS dye from the industrial effluent.

Abstract
Air pollution is a universal concern. The suspended solid/liquid particles in the air and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are ubiquitous. Synthetic polymer-based air filter media not only has disposal issues but also is a source of air and water pollution at the end of their life cycle. It has been a challenge to filter both particulate matter and VOC pollutants by a common biodegradable filter media having low air resistance. This study reports gelatin/β-cyclodextrin composite nanofiber mats with dual function air filtration ability at reduced air resistance (148 Pa) and low basis weight (1 g/m²). Gelatin/β-cyclodextrin nanofibers captured aerosols (0.3-5 μm) with < 95% filtration efficiency at 0.029/Pa quality factor. They adsorbed great amount of xylene (287 mg/g), benzene (242 mg/g), and formaldehyde (0.75 mg/g) VOCs. VOC adsorption of gelatin/β-cyclodextrin nanofibers is found several times higher than a commercial face mask and pristine powder samples. This study provides a solution for a 'green' dual function respiratory air filtration at low resistance. Gelatin/β-cyclodextrin nanofibers also have the potential to filter nano-sized viruses.

Abstract
As reported herein, the waterborne polymers poly(glycidyl methacrylate-co-poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) P(GMA-co-mPEGMA) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) were used to prepare multipurpose polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes via a direct spray-coating method. P(GMA-co-mPEGMA) and PEI were alternately sprayed onto the PVDF membrane to yield stable cross-linked copolymer coatings. The successful coating of polymers onto the membrane surface was verified by scanning electron microscopy, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterization. The coated membrane exhibited oil rejection rates that exceeded 99.0% for oil water mixture separation and 98.0% for oil/water emulsion separation. The flux recovery ratio reached 96.7% after bovine serum albumin filtration and washing with water. The removal efficiencies of the coated membrane M3 for Congo red, methyl orange, methylene blue, and crystal violet, Pb(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) were 82.4, 83.9, 6.3, 26.8, 90.6, 91.3, and 86.2%, respectively. Thus, it can be used for the removal of dyes and heavy metal ions from wastewater. The antibacterial activities of the coated membranes were also confirmed by the inhibition zone tests and confocal laser scanning microscopy analysis. In addition, the cross-linking strategy provides the coated membranes with excellent durability and repeatability. More importantly, the use of water as the solvent can ensure that the application of these membrane coatings proceeds via a very safe and environmentally friendly coating process.

Abstract
In order to reduce the possible harm caused by air pollution, excellent personal protective materials are attracting more and more attention. Therefore, the research of multifunctional materials that can filter particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) simultaneously is of great significance. In addition, in cold weather, water vapor in the exhaled gas condenses into small droplets inside the respirator causing uncomfortable feeling of dampness. Herein, we prepared several types of cyclodextrin-containing Janus nanofibrous porous membranes by electrospinning, which can efficiently filter PM of different sizes in the air, effectively adsorb VOCs, and orientate moisture from exhaled gas to the outside of the membranes to provide a dry and comfortable environment. These advantageous features, combined with the cheap price and easy availability of component materials and low respiratory resistance, highlight the great potential of these Janus nanofibrous porous membranes in the development of personal wearable air purifiers.
