Abstract
In the presence of Na2CO3, the combination of PdCl2(dppf), dppp and CuI catalyzes the decarbonylative coupling of arylcarboxylic acid 2-pyridyl esters with terminal alkynes to afford 1,2-disubstituted acetylenes. (Hetero)aryl, alkyl, and silylacetylenes and various electron-donating and -withdrawing group-substituted arylcarboxylic acid 2-pyridyl esters can be used in this transformation, with a range of functional groups showing compatibility.

Abstract
Sonogashira coupling is one of the Nobel reactions discovered in 1975 to form a C-C bond using palladium and copper as co-catalysts. Incorporating alkyne functionalities either in macro or micro molecules by using this Sonogashira reaction has already proven its viability and relevance in the sphere of synthetic chemistry. While aiming for sustainable chemistry, in recent years, visible light photoredox catalysts have appeared as an advanced tool in this regard. In this review, we aim to portray a comprehensive summary of modern visible light photo redox catalyzed Sonogashira reaction, which will leave space for the readers to rethink alternative strategies to conduct the Sonogashira reaction. This review briefly describes the implementation of various metal-based nanomaterial photocatalysts, developing either copper or palladium-free photocatalytic methods, and organo-photolytic and bioinspired photocatalysts for the Sonogashira coupling reactions. Besides, this review also gives a concise overview of the mechanistic aspects and highlights selective examples for substrate scope.

Abstract
A convenient Pd- and phosphine-free protocol for assembling internal alkynes from tertiary propargyl alcohols and (het)aryl halides has been developed. The proposed tandem approach includes the base-promoted retro-Favorskii fragmentation followed by Cu-catalyzed C(sp)-C(sp2) cross-coupling. The use of inexpensive reagents (e.g. a catalyst, additives, a base, and a solvent) and good functional group tolerance make the procedure practical and cost-effective. The synthetic utility of the method was demonstrated by a smooth alkynylation of vinyl iodides derived from natural steroidal hormones.

Abstract
Photosensitizing assemblies of pyrazine derivative PDA have been developed which exhibit a high photostability, 'lighted' excited state, balanced redox potential, high transportation potential and activate oxygen via type-I pathway only. These PDA assemblies in combination with Cu(II) ions catalyze the CuAAC reaction via in situ reduction of Cu(II) ions without any reducing or stabilizing agent. The present protocol has wide substrate scope with recyclability of the catalytic system up to six catalytic cycles and is applicable to gram-scale synthesis.

Abstract
Aggregation induced emission enhancement (AIEE) is one of the most widely explored phenomena to develop 'light up' (fluorescent) materials having potential applications in the field of supramolecular chemistry, analytical chemistry and material chemistry. By applying the principles of host-guest chemistry, we have developed a variety of aggregation induced emission (AIE/AEE) active materials having specific affinity for metal ions, electron deficient/electron rich analytes. The interactions between AIE active assemblies and metal ions are further tuned to prepare nanohybrids having potential applications as catalytic/photocatalytic systems in various organic transformations under eco-friendly conditions. This account summarizes various design strategies developed in our labortary for the preparation of AIE/AEE active building blocks having sensing and catalytic applications.

Abstract
Introduction In recent years, the use of cost-effective, multifunctional, environmentally friendly and simple prepared nanomaterials/nanoparticles have been emerged considerably. In this manner, different synthesizing methods were reported and optimized, but there is still lack of a comprehensive method with multifunctional properties. Materials and Methods In this study, we aim to synthesis the copper oxide nanoparticles using Achillea millefolium leaf extracts for the first time. Catalytic activity was investigated by in situ azide alkyne cycloaddition click and also A3 coupling reaction, and optimized in terms of temperature, solvent, and time of the reaction. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activity of the synthesized nanoparticles was screened in terms of degradation methylene blue dye. Biological activity of the synthesized nanoparticles was evaluated in terms of antibacterial and anti-fungal assessments against Staphylococcus aureus, M. tuberculosis, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. mirabili, C. diphtheriae and S. pyogenes bacteria's and G. albicans, A. flavus, M. canis and G. glabrata fungus. In the next step, the biosynthesized CuO-NPs were screened by MTT and NTU assays. Results Based on our knowledge, this is a comprehensive study on the catalytic and biological activity of copper oxide nanoparticles synthesizing from Achillea millefolium, which presents great and significant results (in both catalytic and biological activities) based on a simple and green procedure. Conclusion Comprehensive biomedical and catalytic investigation of the biosynthesized CuO-NPs showed the mentioned method leads to synthesis of more eco-friendly nanoparticles. Abstract
A photoredox catalytic ensemble consisting of CuO-Fe2 O3 nanocomposites and oligomeric derivative of phenazine has been developed. The prepared system acts as an efficient photoredox catalyst for C-N bond formation reaction via SET mechanism under 'green' conditions (aerial environment, mixed aqueous media, recyclable), requiring less equivalents of base and amine substrate. The present study demonstrates the significant role of supramolecular assemblies as photooxidants and reductants upon irradiation and their important contribution towards the activation of the metallic centre through energy transfer and electron transfer pathways. The potential of oligomer 4: CuO-Fe2 O3 has also been explored for C-C bond formation reactions via the Sonogashira protocol.

Abstract
Herein the first visible-light-activated Sonogashira C-C coupling reaction at room temperature catalyzed by single-metal heterogeneous Cu2 O truncated nanocubes (Cu2 O TNCs) was developed. A wide variety of aryl halides and terminal alkynes worked well in this recyclable heterogeneous photochemical process to form the corresponding Sonogashira C-C coupling products in good yields. Mechanistic control studies indicated that CO2 enhances the formation of light-absorbing heterogeneous surface-bound CuI -phenylacetylide (λmax =472 nm), which further undergoes single-electron transfer with aryl iodides/bromides to enable Sonogashira C sp 2 -Csp bond formation. In contrast to literature-reported bimetallic TiO2 -containing nanoparticles as photocatalyst, this work avoided the need of cocatalysis by TiO2 . Single-metal CuI in Cu2 O TNCs was solely responsible for the observed C sp 2 -Csp coupling reactions under CO2 atmosphere.

Abstract
A new set of free-base and zinc(II)-metallated, β-pyrrole-functionalized unsymmetrical push-pull porphyrins were designed and synthesized via β-mono- and dibrominated tetraphenylporphyrins using Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions. The ability of donors and acceptors on the push-pull porphyrins to produce high-potential charge separated states was investigated. The porphyrins were functionalized at the opposite β,β'-pyrrole positions of porphyrin ring bearing triphenylamine push groups and naphthalimide pull groups. Systematic studies involving optical absorption, steady-state and time-resolved emission revealed existence of intramolecular type interactions both in the ground and excited states. The push-pull nature of the molecular systems was supported by frontier orbitals generated on optimized structures, wherein delocalization of HOMO over the push group and LUMO over the pull group connecting the porphyrin π-system was witnessed. Electrochemical studies were performed to visualize the effect of push and pull groups on the overall redox potentials of the porphyrins. Spectroelectrochemical studies combined with frontier orbitals helped in characterizing the one-electron oxidized and reduced porphyrins. Finally, by performing transient absorption studies in polar benzonitrile, the ability of push-pull porphyrins to produce charge-separated states upon photoexcitation was confirmed and the measured rates were in the range of 109 s-1 . The lifetime of the final charge separated state was around 5 ns. This study ascertains the importance of push-pull porphyrins in solar energy conversion and diverse optoelectronic applications, for which high-potential charge-separated states are warranted.

Abstract
Pyrazine derivatives DIPY, TETPY and CNDIPY have been designed and synthesized which form fluorescent supramolecular assemblies in mixed aqueous media due to their AIEE and ICT characteristics. Among all the derivatives, the assemblies of TETPY and CNDIPY show strong absorption in the visible region with high absorption coefficients, low HOMO-LUMO gap, and high photostability. Further, the supramolecular nanoassemblies of TETPY and CNDIPY show excellent potential to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) under the visible light irradiation. Owing to their strong absorption in the visible region and ROS generation ability, the supramolecular nanoassemblies of TETPY and CNDIPY act as efficient photoredox catalytic systems for carrying out (a) oxidative amidation of aromatic aldehydes (b) hydroxylation of boronic acid and (c) oxidative homocoupling of benzylamines under mild conditions such as aqueous media, aerial environment, and natural sunlight as a source of irradiation. All the mechanistic investigations suggest the participation of in-situ generated ROS in the organic transformations upon light irradiation.

Abstract
Polymers with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics have aroused tremendous interest because of their potential applications in large-area flexible display and luminescent self-assembling, and as stimuli-responsive and porous materials. However, the design of AIE-active polymers is always not as easy as that of small molecules because their properties are hard to predict. In some cases, the polymers prepared from the AIE-active monomers show the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) instead of AIE effect. To understand the structure-property relationship of the polymers constructed from the AIE monomers, in this paper, two pyrazine-containing AIE monomers were utilized to construct luminescent polymers by click polymerization. The photophysical property investigation indicates that the polytriazole containing tetraphenylpyrazine units is AIE-active, whereas that bearing 2,3-dicyano-5,6-diphenylpyrazine units suffers from the ACQ effect. Through systematical investigation, the cause for such difference was unveiled. Thus, this work provides a useful guidance for further design of AIE-active polymers.

Abstract
Hemicyanine derivatives C1–C4 have been synthesized and show strong absorption in the visible region, good water solubility, efficient intersystem crossing, a high singlet oxygen quantum yield and high ability to transport electrons from the donor to acceptor. These hemicyanine derivatives were utilized as photocatalysts in additive/base free oxidative amidation of aromatic aldehydes in mixed aqueous media under visible light irradiation at low catalytic loading. The hemicyanine derivative C4 exhibited recyclability upto four cycles and reusability upto five cycles in oxidative amidation of aromatic aldehydes. Among all the hemicyanine derivatives, C4 shows a high photocatalytic efficiency due to a high singlet oxygen quantum yield. All the mechanism investigations showed involvement of reactive oxygen species generated by the organic triplet photosensitizer based on hemicyanine derivative for carrying out oxidative amidation of aldehyde. Our results will encourage the design of new “metal free” organic photosensitizers and their application in photocatalysis. Hemicyanine derivatives C1–C4 have been synthesized and utilized as photocatalysts in additive/base free oxidative amidation of aromatic aldehydes in mixed aqueous media under visible light irradiation at low catalytic loading.![]()

Abstract
Twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) formation in hemithioindigo photoswitches has recently been reported and constitutes a second deexcitation pathway complementary to photoisomerization. Typically, this behavior is not found for this type of photoswitches, and it takes special geometric and electronic conditions to realize it. Here we present a systematic study that identifies the molecular preconditions leading to TICT formation in donor substituted hemithioindigo, which can thus serve as a frame of reference for other photoswitching systems. By varying the substitution pattern and providing an in-depth physical characterization including time-resolved and quantum yield measurements, we found that neither ground-state pretwisting along the rotatable single bond nor the introduction of strong push-pull character across the photoisomerizable double bond alone leads to formation of TICT states. Only the combination of both ingredients produces light-induced TICT behavior in polar solvents.

Abstract
Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials emerged as promising light sources in third generation organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). Much effort has been invested for the development of small molecular TADF materials and vacuum process-based efficient TADF-OLEDs. In contrast, a limited number of solution processable high-molecular weight TADF materials toward low cost, large area, and scalable manufacturing of solution processed TADF-OLEDs have been reported so far. In this context, we report benzophenone-core carbazole dendrimers (GnB, n = generation) showing TADF and aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) properties along with alcohol resistance enabling further solution-based lamination of organic materials. The dendritic structure was found to play an important role for both TADF and AIEE activities in the neat films. By using these multifunctional dendritic emitters as non-doped emissive layers, OLED devices with fully solution processed organic multilayers were successfully fabricated and achieved maximum external quantum efficiency of 5.7%.
