Abstract
Intermolecular annulation reactions of 1-naphthyl-1,3-indandiones with alkenes proceed efficiently in the presence of a copper catalyst to generate spirocarbocycle compounds. Various spirocyclic molecules bearing an all-carbon quaternary center could be obtained by this novel method with good yields, excellent regioselectivity, and good functional group tolerance. A radical mechanism is proposed based on the HRMS analysis results of control experiments.

Abstract
A simple and atom economic protocol for the construction of C-X/C-C bonds via catalytic aminium radical-cation salt (Magic Blue)-initiated SN2-type nucleophilic ring-opening transformations of racemic and nonracemic aziridines with different hetero and carbon nucleophiles to afford various amino ethers, thioethers, and amines in up to 99% yield, and with perfect enantiospecificity for some substrates but reduced ee with others (for nonracemic aziridines), is developed. This aminium radical-cation salt-initiated, SN2-type nucleophilic ring-opening strategy, along with various cyclization protocols, is employed to synthesize various biologically significant compounds.

Abstract
The oxidative aromatization of aliphatic N-heterocycles is a fundamental organic transformation for the preparation of a diverse array of heteroaromatic compounds. Despite many attempts to improve the efficiency and practicality of this transformation, most synthetic methodologies still require toxic and expensive reagents as well as harsh conditions. Herein, we describe two enzymatic strategies for the oxidation of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines (THQs) and N-cyclopropyl-N-alkylanilines into quinolines and 2-quinolones, respectively. Whole cells and purified monoamine oxidase (MAO-N) enzymes were used to effectively catalyze the biotransformation of THQs into the corresponding aromatic quinoline derivatives, while N-cyclopropyl-N-alkylanilines were converted into 2-quinolone compounds through a horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-catalyzed annulation/aromatization reaction followed by Fe-mediated oxidation.

Abstract
Using the in situ generated triarylamine radical cation as an initiator, the sp3 C-H bond of proline esters was smoothly oxidized and brominated through C-H activation relay (CHAR), giving a series of 4-bromopyrroles in good yields with high regioselectivity. The mechanistic study revealed that the oxidation of the active C-H bond initiated the followed 1,5-HAT and bromination, which provides a new method to realize the functionalization of the remote C-H bond.

Abstract
AbstractAn oxidative desymmetrization of isoindolines was realized by TBN initiated radical sp3 C–H activation relay (CHAR), providing a series of ω-hydroxylactams in high yields. This reaction exhibits broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance, and even N-alkyl isoindolines can be well tolerated. The mechanistic study shows that the C–H bond oxidation, dioxygen trapping and intramolecular 1,5-H shift might be the key steps to achieve the oxidative desymmetrization.

Abstract
A TBN/O2-initiated oxidation of the relatively inert 3,4-C-H bonds of THIQs was accomplished, in which the existence of an α-phosphoric ester group is crucial to enable dioxygen trapping and intramolecular HAT (C-H activation relay, CHAR), realizing the synthesis of a series of isoquinolin-1-ones in high yields. The mechanistic study confirmed that the formation of the 3,4-double bond is mediated by the CHAR process. This work provides a new strategy to achieve remote C-H bond activation.

Abstract
Heterocycles, heteroaromatics and spirocyclic entities are ubiquitous components of a wide plethora of synthetic drugs, biologically active natural products, marketed pharmaceuticals and agrochemical targets. Recognizing their high proportion in drugs and rich pharmacological potential, these invaluable structural motifs have garnered significant interest, thus enabling the development of efficient catalytic methodologies providing access to architecturally complex and diverse molecules with high atom-economy and low cost. These chemical processes not only allow the formation of diverse heterocycles but also utilize a range of flexible and easily accessible building units in a single operation to discover diversity-oriented synthetic approaches. Alkynoates are significantly important, diverse and powerful building blocks in organic chemistry due to their unique and inherent properties such as the electronic bias on carbon-carbon triple bonds posed by electron-withdrawing groups or the metallic coordination site provided by carbonyl groups. The present review highlights the comprehensive picture of the utility of alkynoates (2007-2019) for the synthesis of various heterocycles (> 50 types) using transition-metal catalysts (Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, Ag, Au, Pt, Cu, Mn, Fe) in various forms. The valuable function of versatile alkynoates (bearing multifunctional groups) as simple and useful starting materials is explored, thus cyclizing with an array of coupling partners to deliver a broad range of oxygen-, nitrogen-, sulfur-containing heterocycles alongside fused-, and spiro-heterocyclic compounds. In addition, these examples will also focus the scope and reaction limitations, as well as mechanistic investigations into the synthesis of these heterocycles. The biological significance will also be discussed, citing relevant examples of drug molecules highlighting each class of heterocycles. This review summarizes the recent developments in the synthetic methods for the synthesis of various heterocycles using alkynoates as readily available starting materials under transition-metal catalysis.

Abstract
The combination of photoredox catalysis and enamine catalysis has enabled the development of an enantioselective aerobic oxidative cross-dehydrogenative coupling between glycine derivatives and simple ketones or aldehydes, which provides an efficient approach for the rapid synthesis of enantiopure unnatural α-alkyl α-amino acid derivatives in good yield with excellent diastereo- (up to >99 : 1) and enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee). This process includes the direct photoinduced oxidation of glycine derivatives to an imine intermediate, followed by the asymmetric Mannich-type reaction with an enamine intermediate generated in situ from a ketone or aldehyde and a chiral secondary amine organocatalyst. This mild method allows the direct formation of a C–C bond with simultaneous installation of two new stereocenters without wasteful removal of functional groups. A visible-light-induced enantioselective aerobic oxidative cross-dehydrogenative coupling between glycine derivatives and simple ketones or aldehydes is achieved.![]()

Abstract
A facile transition-metal-free protocol to form 2-iminoimidazo[1, 2-a]-pyridines bearing a -CHBr2 group and an aza-quaternary carbon center at the 3 position from N-(2-pyridyl)amidines substrates, in which the new heterocyclic skeletons constructed from amidines via radical reactions or nucleophilic substitution reactions are promoted only by CBr4 under mild conditions, is demonstrated. The reactions were realized by intramolecular CDC reaction involving C-N and C-C bond formation via the sequential C(sp3)-H bifunctionalization mode on the same carbon atom under mild conditions. Moreover, this work also provides an excellent and representative example for CBr4 as an efficient reagent to initiate radical reactions under initiator-free conditions or to give rise to nucleophilic substitution reactions only by base.

Abstract
A radical cation salt-initiated phosphorylation of N-benzylanilines was realized through an aerobic oxidation of the sp3 C-H bond, providing a series of α-aminophosphonates in high yields. An investigation of the reaction scope revealed that this mild catalyst system is superior in good functional group tolerance and high reaction efficiency. The mechanistic study implied that the cleavage of the sp3 C-H bond was involved in the rate-determining step.

Abstract
A novel and efficient oxygenation approach to trisubstituted oxazoles via a copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative dehydrogenative annulation of amines, alkynes, and O2 has been developed. This transformation combines dioxygen activation and oxidative C-H bond functionalization and provides a practical protocol for the preparation of oxazole derivatives, which are privileged units found in various bioactive compounds or other natural products. 18O-labeling experiments were conducted to reveal that oxygenation was involved in this chemistry.

Abstract
A facile construction of quinoline-2-carboxylate esters through an aerobic oxidation of alkyl 4-anilinocrotonates is described. In the presence of dioxygen, sp3 C-H bonds in 4-anilinocrotonates can easily be oxidized by using a catalytic amount of a radical cation salt, providing a radical intermediate. After further oxidation and domino cyclization, the desired quinoline derivatives were afforded in high yields. This reaction provides a new way to construct the pharmaceutically relevant quinoline skeleton, avoiding harsh reaction conditions and tedious starting material synthesis.

Abstract
A visible-light induced photocatalytic aerobic oxidative dehydrogenative coupling/aromatization tandem reaction of glycine esters with unactivated alkenes has been accomplished. This visible light-driven protocol has been successfully applied to a broad scope of glycine esters and simple alkenes, giving rise to diverse substituted quinoline derivatives in 18-84% yield under mild (at room temperature under air atmosphere) and operationally simple reaction conditions.
