Abstract
A series of heterogeneous catalysts anchored to different polystyrene-based supports has been prepared and applied in an asymmetric [2,3]-Wittig rearrangement reaction of cyclohexanone derivatives. Among them, primary amino acid-derived (aminomethylated)polystyrene-supported catalysts showed excellent reactivity leading to the formation of rearranged products in good enantioselectivities of both diastereomers. Reusability issues connected to the deactivation of the catalyst were proved to be dependent on the end-capping strategy chosen for the blocking of the unreacted active sites of the resin. This issue of end-capping has not previously been in focus. Using bulkier pivaloyl end-capping moiety, we were able to recycle the catalyst in six consecutive cycles with only marginal deceleration of the reaction. Moreover, the epimerization of the product that occurred while conducting a rearrangement reaction in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst was almost fully eliminated by switching the catalytic system to heterogeneous.

Abstract
Efficient synthetic methods that avoid the extensive use of hazardous reagents and solvents, as well as harsh reaction conditions, have become paramount in the field of organic synthesis. Organocatalysis is notably one of the best tools in building chemical bonds between carbons and carbon-heteroatoms; however, most examples still employ toxic volatile organic solvents. Although a portfolio of greener solvents is now commercially available, only ethyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, 2-methyltetrahydrofuran, supercritical carbon dioxide, ethyl lactate, and diethyl carbonate have been explored with chiral organocatalysts. In this review, the application of these bio-based solvents in asymmetric organocatalytic methods reported in the last decade is discussed, highlighting the proposed mechanism pathway for the transformations.

Abstract
The necessity of more sustainable conditions that follow the twelve principles of Green Chemistry have pushed researchers to the development of novel reagents, catalysts and solvents for greener asymmetric methodologies. Solvents are in general a fundamental part for developing organic processes, as well as for the separation and purification of the reaction products. By this reason, in the last years, the application of the so-called green solvents has emerged as a useful alternative to the classical organic solvents. These solvents must present some properties, such as a low vapor pressure and toxicity, high boiling point and biodegradability, and must be obtained from renewable sources. In the present revision, the recent application of these biobased solvents in the synthesis of optically active compounds employing different catalytic methodologies, including biocatalysis, organocatalysis and metal catalysis, will be analyzed to provide a novel tool for carrying out more ecofriendly organic processes.

Abstract
The Wieland–Miescher ketone, Hajos–Parrish–Eder–Sauer–Wiechert ketone, and their analogues are bicyclic diketones essential as building blocks for the synthesis of several natural and bioactive molecules. For this reason, since 1971, when Hajos and Parrish and Eder, Sauer, and Wiechert reported the stereoselective synthesis of these compounds promoted by L-proline, numerous methodologies and organocatalysts have been studied over the years with the aim of identifying increasingly efficient asymmetrical syntheses of these bicyclic ketones. This review will outline the methodological and stereochemical features of the organocatalytic stereoselective synthesis of these bicyclic scaffolds based on the different organocatalysts employed from 1971 until today. Particular emphasis will be given to the structural features of the catalysts and to the reaction conditions.

Abstract
Native to the Asia-Pacific region and widely applied in traditional Chinese medicine, the genus Daphniphyllum has produced over 330 known Daphniphyllum alkaloids. Investigations into these alkaloids have shown an exceptional range of interesting bioactivities. Challenging and caged polycyclic architectures and the promising biological profiles make Daphniphyllum alkaloids intriguing synthetic targets. Based on their backbones, these alkaloids can be categorized into 13-35 structurally distinct subfamilies. In addition to our work, almost 30 impressive total syntheses of Daphniphyllum alkaloids from seven subfamilies, namely, daphniphylline-type, secodaphniphylline-type, daphnilactone A-type, bukittinggine-type, daphmanidin A-type, calyciphylline A-type, and calyciphylline B-type alkaloids, have been reported by 11 research groups. However, many Daphniphyllum alkaloid subfamilies remain inaccessible by chemical synthesis. In this Account, we summarize our recent endeavors in the total synthesis of Daphniphyllum alkaloids commencing from simple chiral bicyclic synthons. Daphniphyllum alkaloids with diversified skeletons from four different subfamilies, namely, calyciphylline A-type, daphnezomine A-type, bukittinggine-type, and yuzurimine-type alkaloids, have been achieved. Furthermore, the tricyclic core structure of daphniglaucin C-type alkaloids daphnimacropodines was also synthesized. First, we describe a 14-step synthesis of calyciphylline A-type alkaloid (-)-himalensine A, which features a mild Cu-mediated nitrile hydration, an intramolecular Heck reaction to assemble the pivotal 2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane moiety, and a Meinwald rearrangement to introduce the critical oxidative state into the skeleton. We then introduce the synthesis of daphnezomine A-type alkaloid dapholdhamine B, which possesses a unique aza-adamantane core. This target molecule was fabricated using key reactions including Huang's amide-activation-annulation. An unexpected radical detosylation during the synthesis of dapholdhamine B further inspired an ambitious radical cyclization cascade strategy, which eventually led to an efficient total synthesis of bukittinggine-type alkaloid (-)-caldaphnidine O. This highly chemo-, regio-, and stereoselective radical reaction cascade also shed light on the synthetic strategy of other alkaloids with caged structures. We next describe the first total synthesis of yuzurimine-type alkaloid (+)-caldaphnidine J. The key steps in our approach include a Pd-catalyzed regioselective hydroformylation and a novel Swern oxidation/ketene dithioacetal Prins reaction cascade. The work has achieved the first synthesis of a member of the largest subfamily of Daphniphyllum alkaloids. Finally, we show our efforts toward the total synthesis of daphniglaucin C-type alkaloids. Overall, we hope that the interesting strategies and synthetic methods demonstrated in our efforts could inspire a wide variety of additional applications to natural product synthesis.

Abstract
The effect of Pd doping on nano-Ni catalyst hydrogenation aptitude in sulcatone (6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one) hydrogenation was investigated. Obtained results demonstrated that the addition of non-catalytic amounts of Pd to the surface of parent Ni catalyst improves the activity to the extent that it surpassed the activity of 2.16 wt% Pd catalyst (model catalyst) at optimal reaction conditions in the flow hydrogenation of an unsaturated ketone. Pd doping improves hydrogen activation on the catalyst, which was found to be a rate-limiting step using kinetic isotopic measurements and theoretical calculations.

Abstract
The increased demand for more efficient, safe, and green production in fine chemical and pharmaceutical industry calls for the development of continuous-flow manufacturing, and for chiral chemicals in particular, enantioselective catalytic processes. In recent years, this emerging direction has received considerable attention and has seen rapid progress. In most cases, catalytic enantioselective flow processes using homogeneous, heterogeneous, or enzymatic catalysts have shown significant advantages over the conventional batch mode, such as shortened reaction times, lower catalysts loadings, and higher selectivities in addition to the normal merits of non-enantioselective flow operations. In this Minireview, the advancements, key strategies, methods, and technologies developed the last six years as well as remaining challenges are summarized.

Abstract
(+)-(S) and (−)-(R)-5-methyl-Wieland-Miescher ketone (+)-1 and (−)-1, are important synthons in the diastereo and enantioselective syntheses of biological and/or pharmacological interesting compounds. A key step in these syntheses is the chemoselective C(1)O acetalization to (+)-5 and (−)-5, respectively. Various procedures for this transformation have been described in the literature. Among them, the classical procedure based on the use of 1,2-ethanediol and TsOH in refluxing benzene in the presence of a Dean-Stark apparatus. Within our work on bioactive natural products, it occurred to us to observe the partial racemization of (+)-5 in the course of the acetalization of (+)-1 by means of the latter methodology. Aiming to investigate this drawback, which, to our best knowledge, has no precedents in the literature, we acetalized with 1,2-ethanediol and TsOH in refluxing benzene and in the presence of a Dean–Stark apparatus under various experimental conditions, enantiomerically pure (+)-1. It was found that the extent of racemization depends on the TsOH/(+)-1 and 1,2-ethanediol/(+)-1 ratios. Mechanism hypotheses for this partial and unexpected racemization are provided.

Abstract
The synthesis and application of a newly designed C2-symmetric chiral bifunctional triamine family ( C2-CBT) is reported. These enantiopure chiral triamine scaffolds can be accessed in multigram amounts from simple amino acids while avoiding chromatographic purification. As a proof of principle, C2-CBT has been studied in the aldol reaction of cyclic ketones with isatins, with the target tertiary alcohols being formed in a highly efficient manner. Catalyst recovery by simple extraction techniques and subsequent reuse has been performed.

Abstract
Generally, organocatalysts are not decomposed during chemical transformation, which is different from traditional metal catalysts. To improve catalytic processes efficiency, various studies have been applied to flow synthesis for organocatalysis. Furthermore, many immobilized organocatalysts have been used for heterogeneous flow synthesis, which requires huge amounts of immobilized catalyst and requires several steps to prepare. We took advantage of organocatalysts with low-polarity organic solvent and developed a flow system through a packed-bed column with simply proline tetrazole (5-(2-pyrrolidinyl)-1H-tetrazole) for heterogeneous organocatalytic synthesis. Under ambient temperature, this heterogeneous organocatalyst continuous flow-column system with ketones as a donor provides aldol, Mannich, and o-nitroso aldol reactions in up to quantitative yields with excellent enantio- and chemoselectivity values. Our heterogeneous-flow synthesis provides extremely low process catalyst mass efficiency and continuous production without changing the packed-bed catalyst column.

A polystyrene-supported BINOL-derived chiral phosphoric acid has been applied to the desymmetrisation of meso-diones to produce enantioenriched cyclohexenones. The catalytic resin has proven highly active and robust, giving rise to Hajos–Parrish or Wieland–Miescher type products in good yields and enantioselectivities, while allowing for extended recycling. A polystyrene-supported, recyclable, BINOL-derived chiral phosphoric acid has been applied to the desymmetrization of meso-diones to produce enantioenriched cyclohexenones.![]()

Abstract
In this pilot study, we present novel bifunctional silica gel-immobilized materials applicable as heterogeneous organocatalysts and stationary phases in HPLC. The materials provided high stereoselectivity in both batch and continuous flow catalysis of a model Michael addition (cyclohexanone to (E)-β-nitrostyrene). In the batch reaction, the catalysts proved their sustainable catalytic activity over five consecutive recycling experiments. Under continuous flow reaction conditions, the catalytic activity was found to be superior to the batch reaction, and moreover, the same immobilized materials were utilized as stationary phases in HPLC showing very good chemoselective separation of model acidic analytes. Novel multidisciplinary silica gel-based materials were successfully employed in highly stereoselective Michael addition and as stationary phases in HPLC separation.![]()

Abstract
The development and application of high-load, recyclable magnetic Co/C hybrid ROMP-derived benzenesulfonyl chloride and analogues is reported. The regeneration and utility of these reagents in the methylation/alkylation of various carboxylic acids is demonstrated via efficient retrieval of the magnetic reagent with a neodymium magnet. Additional reactions employing the analogue sulfonic acid and in situ generated magnetic benzenesulfonyl azide are also reported.
