Abstract
A dual nickel- and iridium-photocatalyzed radical cascade bicyclization reaction for the synthesis of highly complex molecular structures in an atom- and step-economic manner has been described. A series of radical precursors are utilized for the divergent synthesis of diversely substituted fluorenes and indenoazepinones bearing quaternary carbons by using cascade cyclization reactions of 1,5-enynes. This reaction is characterized by its mild conditions, broad substrate scope, excellent selectivity, and satisfactory yield including facile scale-up synthesis.

Abstract
Gold catalysts possess the advantages of water and oxygen resistance, with the possibility of catalyzing many novel chemical transformations, especially in the syntheses of small-molecule skeletons, in addition to achieving the rapid construction of multiple chemical bonds and ring systems in one step. In this feature paper, we summarize recent advances in the construction of small-molecule scaffolds, such as benzene, cyclopentene, furan, and pyran, based on gold-catalyzed cyclization of arylalkyne derivatives within the last decade. We hope that this review will serve as a useful reference for chemists to apply gold-catalyzed strategies to the syntheses of related natural products and active molecules, hopefully providing useful guidance for the exploration of additional novel gold-catalyzed approaches.

Abstract
A thermally-induced intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition reaction of allylamino- or allyloxy-tethered alkylidenecyclopropanes has been reported in this paper, giving a new protocol for the rapid construction of polycyclic skeleton molecules in moderate to excellent yields with a broad substrate scope. On the basis of control experiments and DFT calculations, we disclosed that the reaction proceeded through a [4+2] cycloaddition and trace of water assisted 1,3-H shift process to give the target product.

Abstract
We have developed a new synthetic methodology for the rapid construction of cyclopenta[b]naphthalene frameworks from the reaction of propargylic alcohol tethered methylenecyclopropanes with mesyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine through cascade cyclization. The reaction can be performed under mild conditions without the use of transition metals, affording the target products in moderate to good yields, and this cyclization reaction process can be scaled up to a gram-scale synthesis.

Abstract
An efficient Cu(I)-catalyzed oxidative cyclization of alkynyl-tethered enynamides for the construction of fused bicyclic cyclopentadiene derivatives is disclosed. The cascade proceeds through alkyne oxidation, carbene/alkyne metathesis, and formal (3 + 2) cycloaddition. Employing aryl-tethered enynamides as starting materials, substituted 2-aminofurans can be exclusively formed.

An unprecedented gold(i)-catalyzed cyclization of cyclopropylidene-tethered propargylic alcohols via a 6-endo-dig enyne cyclization followed by a ring-opening of cyclopropane and nucleophilic closure reaction to construct naphtho[2,3-c]pyrans was developed. This transformation represents a highly efficient method for the synthesis of polycyclic compounds in one-pot, and two new rings are formed in an atom economic manner.

Abstract
Design of a unique reaction pathway in transition-metal-catalyzed 1,6-enynes cyclization to construct valuable synthetic motifs is a significant challenge in organic chemistry. Herein, we report a Ru(II)-catalyzed formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition as an efficient method to prepare unprecedented bicyclo[3.3.0]octenes from readily available (E)-1,6-enynes. Mechanistic studies based on the deuterium labeling experiments and the DFT calculation disclose a reasonable mechanistic pathway, where a ruthenacyclopentene generated by an ene-yne oxidative cyclization undergoes a sequential ß-hydride elimination and intramolecular hydroruthenation to form a ruthenacyclohexene, producing the desirable bicyclo[3.3.0]octenes.

Abstract
During the past decades, cycloisomerizations of methylenecyclopropanes using gold catalysis have attracted much attention from organic chemists. The different patterns of gold(I)-catalyzed cycloisomerizations of methylenecyclopropanes have been developed, and they can be classified as ring-opening and ring-expansion reaction patterns. This synthetic methodology provides a new approach to novel cyclic- or polycyclic compounds. The corresponding products have great potential for material science, medicinal chemistry and total synthesis. This Concept article will mainly focus on the recent advances in the cycloisomerizations of methylenecyclopropanes in the past four years.
