Abstract
The construction of C(sp3)-N bonds via direct N-centered radical addition with olefins under benign conditions is a desirable but challenging strategy. Herein, we describe an organo-photocatalytic approach to achieve anti-Markovnikov alkene hydroamidation with sulfonyl azides in a highly efficient manner under transition-metal-free and mild conditions. A broad range of substrates, including both activated and unactivated alkenes, are suitable for this protocol, providing a convenient and practical method to construct sulfonylamide derivatives. A synergistic experimental and computational mechanistic study suggests that the additive, Hantzsch ester (HE), might undergo a triplet-triplet energy transfer manner to achieve photosensitization by the organo-photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. Next, the resulted triplet excited state 3HE* could lead to a homolytic cleavage of C4-H bond, which triggers a straightforward H-atom transfer (HAT) style in converting sulfonyl azide to the corresponding key amidyl radical. Subsequently, the addition of the amidyl radical to alkene followed by HAT from p-toluenethiol could proceed to afford the desired anti-Markovnikov hydroamidation product. It is worth noting that mechanistic pathway bifurcation could be possible for this reaction. A feasible radical chain propagation mechanistic pathway is also proposed to rationalize the high efficiency of this reaction.

Abstract
Rapid and efficient construction of multifunctionalized skeletons through a one-pot multicompound domino reaction has been recognized as a simple and practical strategy. Herein, a visible-light-enabled three-component reaction of isothiocyanates, isocyanides, and thianthrenium salt-functionalized arenes is presented, which affords a facile approach to sulfur-containing trisubstituted imidazoles in good yields with a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance. The byproduct thianthrene is recovered in quantity, thereby ultimately reducing the production of chemical waste. The developed methodology has potential value for the discovery and development of thioimidazole-based drugs.

Abstract
Vinyl pnictinidenes are an elusive family of molecules that have been suggested as key intermediates in multiple chemical reactions and commonly display a predisposition toward open-shell electronic ground states (as is evident from quantum chemical computations). However, owing to their expected extremely high reactivity, no vinyl pnictinidene has ever been isolated and characterized spectroscopically. Here, we report the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of vinylarsinidene, a higher congener of vinylnitrene. As we demonstrate, triplet vinylarsinidene can be prepared through the low-temperature photolysis of diazidovinylarsine at 10 K in an argon matrix. The title compound can also be generated through high-vacuum flash pyrolysis of the diazide at 700 °C and trapped analogously. Triplet vinylarsinidene was characterized by IR and UV/vis spectroscopy and displayed remarkably rich unimolecular photochemistry. Upon selective photoirradiation, it rearranges to vinylidenearsine, 2H-arsirene, triplet ethynylarsinidene or an arsinidene (H-As) acetylene complex. The formation mechanisms of these products were rationalized with DFT and CASPT2 computations.

Abstract
A visible light-induced palladium-catalyzed homologative three-component synthesis of allylic amines has been developed. This protocol proceeds via a unique mechanism involving two distinct cycles enabled by the same Pd(0) catalyst: a visible light-induced hybrid radical alkyl Heck reaction between 1,1-dielectrophile and styrene, followed by the "in dark" classical Tsuji-Trost-type allylic substitution reaction. This method works well with a broad range of primary and secondary amines, aryl alkenes, dielectrophiles, and in complex settings. The regiochemistry of the obtained products is primarily governed by the structure of 1,1-dielectrophile. Involvement of π-allyl palladium intermediates allowed for the control of stereoselectivity, which has been demonstrated with up to 95:5 er.

Abstract
In this study, a metal-free synthesis of 2,4,5-trisubstituted thiazoles using 2H-azirines and thioamides is disclosed. Under the catalysis of HClO4, the protocol was realized through a novel chemical bond breaking of 2H-azirine, which is usually achieved using a metal catalyst. It provides an efficient and green route for the synthesis of substituted thiazoles with a broad substrate scope. Preliminary mechanistic studies show that such a reaction may involve a ring-opening reaction, annulation, and a hydrogen atom rearrangement process.

Abstract
Direct difunctionalization of simple alkenes has been treated as a powerful synthetic strategy for the construction of highly functionalized skeletons. In this study, direct oxidative coupling of sulfonium salts with alkenes was achieved under mild conditions by a blue-light-driven photoredox process using a copper complex as a photosensitizer. This protocol allows regioselective synthesis of aryl/alkyl ketones from simple sulfonium salts and aromatic alkenes via selective C-S bond cleavage of sulfonium salts and oxidative alkylation of aromatic alkenes using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as a mild oxidant.

Abstract
Carbocycles are core skeletons in natural and synthetic organic compounds possessing a wide diversity of important biological activities. Herein, we report the development of an excited-state copper-catalyzed radical carbo-aroylation of unactivated alkenes to synthesize ketonylated tetralins, di- and tetrahydrophenanthrenes, and cyclopentane derivatives. The reaction is operationally simple and features mild reaction conditions that tolerate a broad range of functional groups. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest a reaction pathway beginning with photoexcitation of [CuI-BINAP]2 and followed by a single electron transfer (SET), radical aroylation of unactivated alkenes, radical cyclization, and re-aromatization, affording the desired ketonylated carbocycles.

Abstract
Photocatalyzed and photosensitized chemical processes have seen growing interest recently and have become among the most active areas of chemical research, notably due to their applications in fields such as medicine, chemical synthesis, material science or environmental chemistry. Among all homogeneous catalytic systems reported to date, photoactive copper(I) complexes have been shown to be especially attractive, not only as alternative to noble metal complexes, and have been extensively studied and utilized recently. They are at the core of this review article which is divided into two main sections. The first one focuses on an exhaustive and comprehensive overview of the structural, photophysical and electrochemical properties of mononuclear copper(I) complexes, typical examples highlighting the most critical structural parameters and their impact on the properties being presented to enlighten future design of photoactive copper(I) complexes. The second section is devoted to their main areas of application (photoredox catalysis of organic reactions and polymerization, hydrogen production, photoreduction of carbon dioxide and dye-sensitized solar cells), illustrating their progression from early systems to the current state-of-the-art and showcasing how some limitations of photoactive copper(I) complexes can be overcome with their high versatility.

Abstract
Synthesis of α,β-unsaturated-γ-lactams continue to attract attention due to the importance of this structural motif in organic chemistry. Herein, we report the development of a visible-light-induced excited-state copper-catalyzed [4 + 1] annulation reaction for the preparation of a wide range of γ-H, -OH, and -OR-substituted α,β-unsaturated-γ-lactams using acrylamides as the 4-atom unit and aroyl chlorides as the 1-atom unit. This modular synthetic protocol features mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, and high functional group tolerance. The reaction is amenable to late-stage diversification of complex molecular architectures, including derivatives of marketed drugs. The products of the reaction can serve as versatile building blocks for further derivatization. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest an inner-sphere catalytic cycle involving photoexcitation of the Cu(BINAP) catalyst, single-electron transfer, and capture of radical intermediates by copper species, followed by reductive elimination or protonation to give the desired γ-functionalized α,β-unsaturated-γ-lactams.

Abstract
A mild photoredox approach enabling the first one-step synthesis of thiolated 2-aminothiazoles has been reported. Notably, the incorporation of thio group on electron-rich heteroarenes such as aminothiazoles via conventional nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) presents a significant challenge owing to polarity mismatch. Herein, we present a remarkable site-selective installation of thio group at the C-5 position of the electron-rich aminothiazole skeleton and successfully used them for the postfunctionalization of drugs and natural products.

Abstract
Herein, a copper-catalyzed, blue-light-induced free radical type ring opening of sulfonium salts with dichalcogenides has been initially developed. The developed method features an inexpensive copper catalyst and a broad substrate scope, affording practical access to alkyl chalcogenides in high yields. This reaction presents a novel ring-opening model of sulfonium salts, which breaks the limitation that only the nucleophilic ring-opening reaction could form C-heteroatom bonds and C-C bonds.

Abstract
In recent years, visible light-induced transition metal catalysis has emerged as a new paradigm in organic photocatalysis, which has led to the discovery of unprecedented transformations as well as the improvement of known reactions. In this subfield of photocatalysis, a transition metal complex serves a double duty by harvesting photon energy and then enabling bond forming/breaking events mostly via a single catalytic cycle, thus contrasting the established dual photocatalysis in which an exogenous photosensitizer is employed. In addition, this approach often synergistically combines catalyst-substrate interaction with photoinduced process, a feature that is uncommon in conventional photoredox chemistry. This Review describes the early development and recent advances of this emerging field.

Abstract
Heterocycles are one of the largest groups of organic moieties with significant medicinal, chemical, and industrial applications. Herein, we report the discovery and development of visible-light-induced, synergistic excited-state copper catalysis using a combination of Cu(IPr)I as a catalyst and rac-BINAP as a ligand, which produces more than 10 distinct classes of heterocycles. The reaction tolerates a broad array of functional groups and complex molecular scaffolds, including derivatives of peptides, natural products, and marketed drugs. Preliminary mechanistic investigation suggests in situ generations of [Cu(BINAP)2 ]+ and [Cu(IPr)2 ]+ catalysts that work cooperatively under visible-light irradiation to facilitate catalytic carbo-aroylation of unactivated alkenes, affording a wide range of useful heterocycles.

Abstract
AbstractA regio- and diastereoselective ring-expansion reaction of N-acylaziridines is described for the synthesis of 4-carboxamide oxazolines using InCl3. A domino Ugi–Joullié/ring-expansion reaction of arylphenylazirines, isocyanides, and carboxylic acids leads to the target products through the N-acylaziridine intermediates in the presence of the indium catalyst. The oxazolines were synthesized in moderate to excellent yields with high atom economy and high bond-forming efficiency under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Photoredox catalysis has been applied to renewable energy and green chemistry for many years. Ruthenium and iridium, which can be used as photoredox catalysts, are expensive and scarce in nature. Thus, the further development of catalysts based on these transition metals is discouraged. Alternative photocatalysts based on copper complexes are widely investigated, because they are abundant and less expensive. This review discusses the scope and application of photoinduced copper-based catalysis along with recent progress in this field. The special features and mechanisms of copper photocatalysis and highlights of the applications of the copper complexes to photocatalysis are reported. Copper-photocatalyzed reactions, including alkene and alkyne functionalization, organic halide functionalization, and alkyl C-H functionalization that have been reported over the past 5 years, are included.

Abstract
The addition reaction of thiol to vinyl azide has been extensively studied. Variously substituted aryl thiols are all viable for this coupling process. The scope of the other partner is successfully expanded from α-aryl vinyl azide to α-alkyl vinyl azide. A thiol-vinyl azide coupling/cyclization cascade is realized with substituted aryl vinyl azides carrying a 2-methoxycarbonyl group. The value of β-ketosulfide products was demonstrated by its application in S-heterocycle synthesis.

Abstract
The late stage functionalization (LSF) of complex biorelevant compounds is a powerful tool to speed up the identification of structure-activity relationships (SARs) and to optimize ADME profiles. To this end, visible-light photocatalysis offers unique opportunities to achieve smooth and clean functionalization of drugs by unlocking site-specific reactivities under generally mild reaction conditions. This review offers a critical assessment of current literature, pointing out the recent developments in the field while emphasizing the expected future progress and potential applications. Along with paragraphs discussing the visible-light photocatalytic synthetic protocols so far available for LSF of drugs and drug candidates, useful and readily accessible synoptic tables of such transformations, divided by functional groups, will be provided, thus enabling a useful, fast, and easy reference to them.

Abstract
An unprecedented exploration of tertiary amines as alkyl radical equivalents for cross-coupling with aromatic alkynes to access allylarenes has been achieved by a P/N heteroleptic Cu(I)-based photosensitizer under photoredox catalysis conditions. Mechanistic studies reveal that the reaction might undergo radical addition of in situ-generated α-amino radical intermediates to alkynes followed by 1,5-hydrogen transfer, C-N bond cleavage, and concomitant isomerization of the resulting allyl radical species.

Abstract
The sulphur centered radicals, produced from various organic compounds, in high efficiency by single-electron-transfer (SET) oxidation. These radicals are highly reactive intermediates having various applications in the construction of organosulphur compounds in the field of synthetic organic chemistry. These S-centred radical-mediated organic transformations have been achieved using photoredox catalysts, including organic dyes and transition metal catalysts, as well as in the absence of any catalyst. Compared with previous methods, photoredox catalysis is inexpensive and features the advantages of being environmentally benign, highly efficient and easy to use. This review focuses on recent developments in the photocatalyzed carbon-sulphur bond formation.

Abstract
Visible-light photoredox catalysis offers a distinct activation mode complementary to thermal transition metal catalyzed reactions. The vast majority of photoredox processes capitalizes on precious metal ruthenium(II) or iridium(III) complexes that serve as single-electron reductants or oxidants in their photoexcited states. As a low-cost alternative, organic dyes are also frequently used but in general suffer from lower photostability. Copper-based photocatalysts are rapidly emerging, offering not only economic and ecological advantages but also otherwise inaccessible inner-sphere mechanisms, which have been successfully applied to challenging transformations. Moreover, the combination of conventional photocatalysts with copper(I) or copper(II) salts has emerged as an efficient dual catalytic system for cross-coupling reactions.
