Molecular Editing of Pyrroles to Benzenes/Naphthalenes by N2O Deletion

A molecular editing reaction for converting pyrrole rings into benzene rings through a sequential pathway of Diels-Alder and cheletropic reactions was developed. The nitrogen atom in a N-bridged intermediate is eliminated in the form of N2O by a strain-releasing pathway, ultimately leading to the formation of substituted benzene and naphthalene derivatives.

Pd(II)-Catalyzed Chemo-, Diastereo-, and Enantioselective C(sp3)-H Arylation to Construct Contiguous Phosphorus and Carbon Stereocenters

Chiral phosphorus compounds with contiguous P,C-stereogenic centers are widely found in chiral ligands. The synthesis of these skeletons has been scarcely reported. Herein, we developed a Pd(II)-catalyzed chemo-, diastereo-, and enantioselective arylation of diisopropyl phosphinamide enabled by 2-pyridinylisopropyl (PIP) auxiliary and (S)-6,6'-(CN)2-SPINOL. A range of chiral phosphinamides containing contiguous P,C-stereocenters were obtained in good yields (up to 85%) with excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee).

Divergent Synthesis of Enantioenriched Silicon-Stereogenic Benzyl-, Vinyl- and Borylsilanes via Asymmetric Aryl to Alkyl 1,5-Palladium Migration

Functionalization of Si-bound methyl group provides an efficient access to diverse organosilanes. However, the asymmetric construction of silicon-stereogenic architectures by functionalization of Si-bound methyl group has not yet been described despite recent significant progress in producing chiral silicon. Herein, we disclosed the enantioselective silylmethyl functionalization involving the aryl to alkyl 1,5-palladium migration to access diverse naphthalenes possessing an enantioenriched stereogenic silicon center, which are inaccessible before. It is worthy to note that the realization of asymmetric induction at the step of metal migration itself remains challenging. Our study constitutes the first enantioselective aryl to alkyl 1,5-palladium migration reaction. The key to the success is the discovery and fine-tuning of the different substituents of α,α,α,α-tetraaryl-1,3-dioxolane-4,5-dimethanol (TADDOL)-based phosphoramidites, which ensure the enantioselectivity and desired reactivity.

Ionic Hydrogen Bond-Assisted Catalytic Construction of Nitrogen Stereogenic Center via Formal Desymmetrization of Remote Diols

The control of noncarbon stereogenic centers is of profound importance owing to their enormous interest in bioactive compounds and chiral catalyst or ligand design for enantioselective synthesis. Despite various elegant approaches have been achieved for construction of S-, P-, Si- and B-stereocenters over the past decades, the catalyst-controlled strategies to govern the formation of N-stereogenic compounds have garnered less attention. Here, we disclose the first organocatalytic approach for efficient access to a wide range of nitrogen-stereogenic compounds through a desymmetrization approach. Intriguingly, the pro-chiral remote diols, which are previously not well addressed with enantiocontrol, are well differentiated by potent chiral carbene-bound acyl azolium intermediates. Preliminary studies shed insights on the critical importance of the ionic hydrogen bond (IHB) formed between the dimer aggregate of diols to afford the chiral N-oxide products that feature a tetrahedral nitrogen as the sole stereogenic element with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities. Notably, the chiral N-oxide products could offer an attractive strategy for chiral ligand design and discovery of potential antibacterial agrochemicals.

Unlocking Enantioselectivity: Synergy of 2-Pyridone and Chiral Amino Acids in Pd-Catalyzed β-C(sp3)-H Transformations

Enantioselective C(sp3)-H activation has garnered significant attention in synthetic and computational chemistry. Chiral transient directing groups (TDGs) hold promise for enabling Pd(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C(sp3)-H functionalization. Despite the interest in this strategy, it presents a challenge because the stereogenic center on the chiral TDG is frequently distant from the C-H bond, leading to a mixture of functionalized products. Our computational study on Pd(II)-catalyzed enantioselective β-C(sp3)-H arylation of aliphatic ketone with chiral amino acids provides a sustainable route to synthesizing complex chiral molecular scaffolds. The cooperative action of 2-pyridone derivatives and chiral amino acids is crucial in promoting the enantio-discriminating C-H activation, oxidative addition, and reductive elimination steps. Using 5-nitro-2-pyridone as the optimal external ligand demonstrates its ability to achieve the highest level of enantioselection. In contrast, the modeled 3,5-di((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)-2-pyridone ligand facilitates the most straightforward C-H activation. This study underscores the pivotal role of the alkyl substituent at the α-position of the amino acid (TDG) in altering enantioselectivity.

Recent approaches for the synthesis of heterocycles from amidines via a metal catalyzed C-H functionalization reaction

Transition metal catalyzed C-H bond activation has become one of the most important tools for constructing new chemical bonds. Introducing directing groups to the substrates is the key to a successful reaction, these directing groups can also be further transformed in the reaction. Amidines with their unique structure and reactivity are ideal substrates for transition metal-catalyzed C-H transformations. This review describes the major advances and mechanistic investigations of the C-H activation/annulation tandem reactions of amidines until early 2024, focusing on metal-catalyzed C-H activation of amidines with unsaturated compounds, such as alkynes, ketone, vinylene carbonate, cyclopropanols and their derivatives. Meanwhile this manuscript also explores the reaction of amidines with different carbene precursors, for example diazo compounds, azide, triazoles, pyriodotriazoles, and sulfoxonium ylides as well as their own C-H bond activation/cyclization reactions. A bright outlook is provided at the end of the manuscript.

Construction of Si-Stereogenic Silanols by Palladium-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Alkenylation

The construction of silicon-stereogenic silanols via Pd-catalyzed intermolecular C-H alkenylation with the assistance of a commercially available L-pyroglutamic acid has been realized for the first time. Employing oxime ether as the directing group, silicon-stereogenic silanol derivatives could be readily prepared with excellent enantioselectivities, featuring a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. Moreover, parallel kinetic resolution with unsymmetric substrates further highlighted the generality of this protocol. Mechanistic studies indicate that L-pyroglutamic acid could stabilize the Pd catalyst and provide excellent chiral induction. Preliminary computational studies unveil the origin of the enantioselectivity in the C-H bond activation step.

Electrooxidative Rhodium(III)/Chiral Carboxylic Acid-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Annulation of Sulfoximines with Alkynes

The combination of achiral Cp*Rh(III) with chiral carboxylic acids (CCAs) represents an efficient catalytic system in transition metal-catalyzed enantioselective C-H activation. However, this hybrid catalysis is limited to redox-neutral C-H activation reactions and the adopt to oxidative enantioselective C-H activation remains elusive and pose a significant challenge. Herein, we describe the development of an electrochemical Cp*Rh(III)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H annulation of sulfoximines with alkynes enabled by chiral carboxylic acid (CCA) in an operationally friendly undivided cell at room temperature. A broad range of enantioenriched 1,2-benzothiazines are obtained in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99 % yield and 98 : 2 er). The practicality of this method is demonstrated by scale-up reaction in a batch reactor with external circulation. A crucial chiral Cp*Rh(III) intermediate is isolated, characterized, and transformed, providing rational support for a Rh(III)/Rh(I) electrocatalytic cycle.

Recent advances in Rh(I)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H functionalization

Chiral carbon-carbon (C-C) and carbon-heteroatom (C-X) bonds are pervasive and very essential in natural products, bioactive molecules, and functional materials, and their catalytic construction has emerged as one of the hottest research fields in synthetic organic chemistry. The last decade has witnessed vigorous progress in Rh(I)-catalyzed asymmetric C-H functionalization as a complement to Rh(II) and Rh(III) catalysis. This review aims to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date summary covering the recent advances in Rh(I)-catalyzed C-H activation for asymmetric functionalization. In addition to the development of diverse reactions, chiral ligand design and mechanistic investigation (inner-sphere mechanism, outer-sphere mechanism, and 1,4-Rh migration) will also be highlighted.

Chiral Cpx Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Enantioselective Aziridination of Unactivated Terminal Alkenes

Chiral cyclopentadienyl-rhodium(III) Cpx Rh(III) catalysis has been demonstrated to be competent for catalyzing highly enantioselective aziridination of challenging unactivated terminal alkenes and nitrene sources. The chiral Cpx Rh(III) catalysis system exhibited outstanding catalytic performance and wide functional group tolerance, yielding synthetically important and highly valuable chiral aziridines with good to excellent yields and enantioselectivities (up to 99 % yield, 93 % ee). This protocol presents a novel and effective strategy for synthesizing enantioenriched aziridines from simple alkenes. Various transformations were performed on the aziridine products, illustrating the versatility and synthetic potential of this protocol for constructing highly functionalized compounds.

Kinetic Resolution of Sulfoximines via Asymmetric Organocatalyzed Formation of Benzothiadiazine-1-oxides

A catalytic kinetic resolution of sulfoximines has been developed through chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed intramolecular dehydrative cyclizations. A variety of racemic sulfoximines bearing an ortho-amidophenyl moiety underwent asymmetric dehydrative cyclizations using this method, yielding both the recovered sulfoximines and benzothiadiazine-1-oxide products with good to high enantioselectivities (with s-factor up to 61). The diverse derivatizations of the chiral products into a wide range of S-stereogenic center-containing S,N-heterocycles have demonstrated the value of this method.

Pd(II)-Catalyzed enantioselective C-H olefination toward the synthesis of P-stereogenic phosphinamides

P-Stereogenic phosphorus compounds are important structural elements in chiral ligands or organocatalysts. Herein, we report a Pd(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H olefination toward the synthesis of P-stereogenic phosphinamides using cheap commercially available L-pGlu-OH as a chiral ligand. A broad range of P-stereogenic phosphinamides were gained in good yields with high enantioselectivities (33 examples, up to 77% yield, 99% ee) via desymmetrization and kinetic resolution.

Stereospecific synthesis of silicon-stereogenic optically active silylboranes and general synthesis of chiral silyl Anions

Silicon-stereogenic optically active silylboranes could potentially allow the formation of chiral silyl nucleophiles as well as the synthesis of various chiral silicon compounds. However, the synthesis of such silicon-stereogenic silylboranes has not been achieved so far. Here, we report the synthesis of silicon-stereogenic optically active silylboranes via a stereospecific Pt(PPh3)4-catalyzed Si-H borylation of chiral hydrosilanes, which are synthesized by stoichiometric and catalytic asymmetric synthesis, in high yield and very high or perfect enantiospecificity (99% es in one case, and >99% es in the others) with retention of the configuration. Furthermore, we report a practical approach to generate silicon-stereogenic silyl nucleophiles with high enantiopurity and configurational stability using MeLi activation. This protocol is suitable for the stereospecific and general synthesis of silicon-stereogenic trialkyl-, dialkylbenzyl-, dialkylaryl-, diarylalkyl-, and alkylary benzyloxy-substituted silylboranes and their corresponding silyl nucleophiles with excellent enantiospecificity (>99% es except one case of 99% es). Transition-metal-catalyzed C-Si bond-forming cross-coupling reactions and conjugate-addition reactions are also demonstrated. The mechanisms underlying the stability and reactivity of such chiral silyl anion were investigated by combining NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations.

Synthesis of P-Stereogenic Phosphinamides via Pd(II)-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Alkynylation

P-Stereogenic phosphinamides represent important structural elements in chiral organocatalysts and bioactive compounds. Herein, we report Pd(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H alkynylation using cheap commercially available l-pyroglutamic acid as a chiral ligand. A range of structurally diverse P-stereogenic phosphinamides was prepared in good yields with high enantioselectivities via desymmetrization and kinetic resolution. A tailor-made congested directing group, N-ethyl-N-(3-methylpyridin-2-yl)amino, was crucial for the reactivity.

Catalytic enantioselective nucleophilic desymmetrization of phosphonate esters

Molecules that contain a stereogenic phosphorus atom are crucial to medicine, agrochemistry and catalysis. While methods are available for the selective construction of various chiral organophosphorus compounds, catalytic enantioselective approaches for their synthesis are far less common. Given the vastness of possible substituent combinations around a phosphorus atom, protocols for their preparation should also be divergent, providing facile access not only to one but to many classes of phosphorus compounds. Here we introduce a catalytic and enantioselective strategy for the preparation of an enantioenriched phosphorus(V) centre that can be diversified enantiospecifically to a wide range of biologically relevant phosphorus(V) compounds. The process, which involves an enantioselective nucleophilic substitution catalysed by a superbasic bifunctional iminophosphorane catalyst, can accommodate a wide range of carbon substituents at phosphorus. The resulting stable, yet versatile, synthetic intermediates can be combined with a multitude of medicinally relevant O-, N- and S-based nucleophiles.

Rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective C-H alkynylation of sulfoxides in diverse patterns: desymmetrization, kinetic resolution, and parallel kinetic resolution

Rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective C-H alkynylation of achiral and racemic sulfoxides is disclosed with alkynyl bromide as the alkynylating reagent. A wide range of chiral sulfoxides have been constructed in good yield and excellent enantioselectivity (up to 99% ee, s-factor up to > 500) via desymmetrization, kinetic resolution, and parallel kinetic resolution under mild reaction conditions. The high enantioselectivity was rendered by the chiral cyclopentadienyl rhodium(iii) catalyst paired with a chiral carboxamide additive. The interactions between the chiral catalyst, the sulfoxide, and the chiral carboxylic amide during the C-H bond cleavage offer the asymmetric induction, which is validated by DFT calculations. The chiral carboxamide functions as a base to promote C-H activation and offers an additional chiral environment during the C-H cleavage.

Recent Advances in Alkenyl sp2 C-H and C-F Bond Functionalizations: Scope, Mechanism, and Applications

Alkenes and their derivatives are featured widely in a variety of natural products, pharmaceuticals, and advanced materials. Significant efforts have been made toward the development of new and practical methods to access this important class of compounds by selectively activating the alkenyl C(sp²)-H bonds in recent years. In this comprehensive review, we describe the state-of-the-art strategies for the direct functionalization of alkenyl sp² C-H and C-F bonds until June 2022. Moreover, metal-free, photoredox, and electrochemical strategies are also covered. For clarity, this review has been divided into two parts; the first part focuses on currently available alkenyl sp² C-H functionalization methods using different alkene derivatives as the starting materials, and the second part describes the alkenyl sp² C-F bond functionalization using easily accessible gem-difluoroalkenes as the starting material. This review includes the scope, limitations, mechanistic studies, stereoselective control (using directing groups as well as metal-migration strategies), and their applications to complex molecule synthesis where appropriate. Overall, this comprehensive review aims to document the considerable advancements, current status, and emerging work by critically summarizing the contributions of researchers working in this fascinating area and is expected to stimulate novel, innovative, and broadly applicable strategies for alkenyl sp² C-H and C-F bond functionalizations in the coming years.

Ruthenium(II)/Imidazolidine Carboxylic Acid-Catalyzed C-H Alkylation for Central and Axial Double Enantio-Induction

Enantioselective C-H activation has surfaced as a transformative toolbox for the efficient assembly of chiral molecules. However, despite of major advances in rhodium and palladium catalysis, ruthenium(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H activation has thus far largely proven elusive. In contrast, we herein report on a ruthenium(II)-catalyzed highly regio-, diastereo- and enantioselective C-H alkylation. The key to success was represented by the identification of novel C2-symmetric chiral imidazolidine carboxylic acids (CICAs), which are easily accessible in a one-pot fashion, as highly effective chiral ligands. This ruthenium/CICA system enabled the efficient installation of central and axial chirality, and featured excellent branched to linear ratios with generally >20 : 1 dr and up to 98 : 2 er. Mechanistic studies by experiment and computation were carried out to understand the catalyst mode of action.

Photocatalytic deracemisation of cobalt(III) complexes with fourfold stereogenicity

The deracemisation of fourfold stereogenic cobalt(III) diketonates with a chiral photocatalyst is described. With only 0.5 mol% menthyl Ru(bpy)32+ photocatalyst, an enantiomeric enrichment of up to 88 : 12 e.r. was obtained for the major meridional diastereomers. Moreover, a distribution of configurationally stable diastereomers distinct from the thermodynamic ratio was observed upon reaching the photostationary state.

Cobalt/Salox-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Functionalization of Arylphosphinamides

Previous methods on Co^III -catalyzed asymmetric C-H activation rely on the use of tailor-made cyclopentadienyl-ligated Co^III complexes, which require lengthy steps for the preparation. Herein, we report an unprecedented enantioselective C-H functionalization enabled by a simple cobalt/salicyloxazoline (Salox) catalysis. The chiral Salox ligands can be easily prepared in one step from salicylonitrile and chiral amino alcohols. A broad range of P-stereogenic compounds were synthesized in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (45 examples, up to 99 % yield and >99 % ee). The isolation and characterization of several intermediates provided insights into the generation of active catalytic cobalt species, the action of Salox, and the mode of stereocontrol.

Nickel(0)-catalyzed divergent reactions of silacyclobutanes with internal alkynes

Transition metal-catalyzed reactions of silacyclobutanes with a variety of π units have attracted much attention and become one of the most straightforward and efficient approaches to rapidly access structurally diverse organosilicon compounds. However, the reaction of silacyclobutanes with alkynes still suffers from some limitations: (1) internal alkynes remain challenging substrates; (2) expensive Pd- or Rh-based catalysts have been employed in all existing systems; (3) controlling chemodivergence has not yet been realized. Herein we realize Ni-catalyzed chemodivergent reactions of silacyclobutanes with alkynes. In comparison with the previous Pd or Rh catalytic systems, our Ni-catalytic system features: 1) complementary substrate scope; 2) ligand-controlled chemodivergence; 3) low cost. The ligand precisely dictates the pathway selectivity, leading to the divergent formation of (benzo)silacyclohexenes and allyl vinylsilanes. Moreover, we demonstrate that employment of a chiral phosphine ligand is capable of forming silicon-stereogenic allyl vinylsilanes in high yields and enantioselectivities. In addition, DFT calculation is performed to elucidate the origin of the switchable selectivities, which is mainly attributed to different ligand steric effects.

Development of Chiral Ligands for the Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Enantioselective Silylation and Borylation of C-H Bonds

Enantioselective reactions that install functional groups at the positions of unactivated C-H bonds can be envisioned to produce intermediates for the synthesis of the active ingredients in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals directly from simple feedstocks. Among these C-H bond functionalization reactions, those that form carbon-silicon (C-Si) and carbon-boron (C-B) bonds have been pursued because the products of these reactions can be converted to those containing a wide range of functional groups and because compounds containing silicon and boron possess unique properties that can be valuable for medicinal and materials chemistry. Although the silylation and borylation of C-H bonds have undergone extensive development during the past two decades, enantioselective versions of these reactions were not known until a few years ago. In this Minireview, we present the rapid development of enantioselective silylation and borylation of C-H bonds, with an emphasis on the design and development of the types of chiral ligands needed to achieve these reactions and an intention to inspire an expansion of these types of transformations.

Rhodium hydride enabled enantioselective intermolecular C–H silylation to access acyclic stereogenic Si–H

The tremendous success of stereogenic carbon compounds has never ceased to inspire researchers to explore the potentials of stereogenic silicon compounds. Intermolecular C–H silylation thus represents the most versatile and straightforward strategy to construct C–Si bonds, however, its enantioselective variant has been scarcely reported to date. Herein we report a protocol that allows for the enantioselective intermolecular C–H bond silylation, leading to the construction of a wide array of acyclic stereogenic Si–H compounds under simple and mild reaction conditions. Key to the success is (1) a substrate design that prevents the self-reaction of prochiral silane and (2) the employment of a more reactive rhodium hydride ([Rh]-H) catalyst as opposed to the commonly used rhodium chloride ([Rh]-Cl) catalyst. This work unveils opportunities in converting simple arenes into value-added stereogenic silicon compounds.

Construction of chiral organosilicon compounds could have implications in photophysical, biological, and chemical fields, as silicon is isoelectronic with carbon, and can mimic carbon atoms while providing slightly different properties. Here the authors present an intermolecular, enantioselective C–H silylation of heterocycles via rhodium catalysis.

Ni-Catalyzed Enantioselective Benzylation of Secondary Phosphine Oxide

A nickel-catalyzed benzylic substitution of secondary phosphine oxide was described, affording the dialkylated P-stereogenic tertiary phosphine oxides with high to excellent enantioselectivities. The reaction was performed under mild conditions with commercially available benzyl chlorides and bench stable secondary phosphine oxides, exhibiting broad functional group tolerance. It represented a practical example for the preparation of P-stereogenic phosphine compounds.

One-step synthesis of indolizino[3,4,5-ab]isoindoles by manganese(I)-catalyzed C-H activation: structural studies and photophysical properties

Herein, a regioselective synthesis of indolizino[3,4,5-ab]isoindoles, a valuable class of heterocycles with interesting luminescence properties, is described using manganese(I)-catalyzed C-H activation. The reported transformation proceeds in one-step and employs readily available 2-phenylpyridines as starting materials. Furthermore, the obtained single products exhibit blue-greenish fluorescence with high quantum yields.

Reaction Path Determination of Rhodium(I)-Catalyzed C-H Alkylation of N-8-Aminoquinolinyl Aromatic Amides with Maleimides

The rhodium(I)-catalyzed reaction of N-8-aminoquinolinyl aromatic amides with maleimides results in C-H alkylation at the ortho position of the amide. The reaction path and formation of the alkylation product with density functional theory (DFT) calculations were done. The detailed computational study showed that the reaction proceeds in the following steps: (I) deprotonation of the NH amide proton, (II) oxidative addition of the ortho C-H bond, (III) migratory insertion of the maleimide, (IV) reductive elimination with the C-C bond formation, and (V) protonation. The energetic span model showed that the turnover frequency (TOF)-determining transition state (TDTS) is the oxidative addition, while the TOF-determining intermediate (TDI) is the formation of an Rh(I)-complex after N-H deprotonation. It was also found that the change in the oxidation number of the Rh catalyst is a key determinant of the reaction path.

Nickel(0)-Catalyzed Asymmetric Ring Expansion Toward Enantioenriched Silicon-Stereogenic Benzosiloles

The development of a straightforward strategy to obtain enantioenriched silicon-stereogenic benzosiloles remains a challenging yet appealing synthesis venture due to their potential future application in chiral electronic and optoelectronic devices. In this context, all of the existing methods rely on Rh-catalyzed systems and are somewhat limited in scope. Herein, we disclose the first Ni⁰ -catalyzed ring expansion process that enables the preparation of benzosiloles possessing tetraorganosilicon stereocenters in excellent yields and enantioselectivities. The presented catalysis strategy is further applied to the asymmetric synthesis of silicon-stereogenic bis-silicon-bridged π-extended systems. Preliminary studies reveal that such compounds exhibit fluorescence emission, Cotton effects and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) activity.

Kinetic resolution of sulfur-stereogenic sulfoximines by Pd(ii)-MPAA catalyzed C-H arylation and olefination

A direct Pd(ii)-catalyzed kinetic resolution of heteroaryl-enabled sulfoximines through an ortho-C-H alkenylation/arylation of arenes has been developed. The coordination of the sulfoximine pyridyl-motif and the chiral amino acid MPAA ligand to the Pd(ii)-catalyst controls the enantio-discriminating C(aryl)-H activation. This method provides access to a wide range of enantiomerically enriched unreacted aryl-pyridyl-sulfoximine precursors and C(aryl)-H alkenylation/arylation products in good yields with high enantioselectivity (up to >99% ee), and selectivity factor up to >200. The coordination preference of the directing group, ligand effect, geometry constraints, and the transient six-membered concerted-metalation-deprotonation species dictate the stereoselectivity; DFT studies validate this hypothesis.

Nickel-Catalyzed Asymmetric Synthesis of P-Stereogenic Vinyl Phosphines

Addition reaction to alkynes is an efficient strategy for constructing valuable alkenyl compounds. However, the elusive regioselectivity has been a persistent challenge. In the context of hydrophosphination reaction which could afford valuable P-stereogenic phosphines, the control of enantioselectivity as well as regioselectivity were especially tricky. Enantioselective palladaelectro-catalyzed C-H olefinations and allylations for N-C axial chirality

Enantioselective palladaelectro-catalyzed C–H alkenylations and allylations were achieved with easily-accessible amino acids as transient directing groups. This strategy provided access to highly enantiomerically-enriched N–C axially chiral scaffolds under exceedingly mild conditions. The synthetic utility of our strategy was demonstrated by a variety of alkenes, while the versatility of our approach was reflected by atroposelective C–H allylations. Computational studies provided insights into a facile C–H activation by a seven-membered palladacycle.

Enantioselective palladaelectro-catalyzed C–H alkenylations and allylations were achieved by the means of an easily-accessible amino acid for the synthesis of N–C axially chiral indole biaryls.
