Three-Component Reactions of Alkynone o-Methyloximes, Element Selenium, and Boronic Acids Leading to 4-Organoselenylisoxazoles

Pd-Catalyzed Chelation-Assisted Regioselective and Site Selective Cyclative C-H Annulation of Alkynyl Oximes with Activated Alkynes

Electrophilic cyclization and concomitant C-H annulation constitute an expedient cascade strategy for the construction of multicyclic scaffolds with precise substitutional patterns. We report here a novel Pd-catalyzed cyclative annulation of ynone oxime with activated alkynes. The cascade features a dual regioselectivity including site selective C-H activation and chelation-assisted selective insertion of alkynes. Control experiments together with kinetic experiments give insights into the mechanism.

Access to Diverse Seleno-spirocyclohexadienones via Ag(II)-Catalyzed Selenylative ipso-Annulation with Se and Boronic Acids

An efficient and straightforward synthesis of diversified seleno-azaspiro-2,5-cyclohexadienones from N-(4-methoxy aryl)propiolamides using elemental selenium and boronic acids has been demonstrated. The reaction proceeds through silver-catalyzed oxidative dearomatization in the presence of potassium persulfate (K₂S₂O₈) as the oxidant. Further, this approach was extended to N-(4-methoxy aryl)propiolates and biaryl ynones to access the corresponding selenylated oxospiro-2,5-cyclohexadienones and spiro[5,5]trienones, respectively. The present three-component method offers the diverse substitutions on selenium involving two C-Se and one C-C bond formations.

Direct Electrooxidative Selenylation/Cyclization of Alkynes: Access to Functionalized Benzo[b]furans

A mild, practical, metal and oxidant-free methodology for the synthesis of various C-3 selenylated benzo[b]furan derivatives was developed through the intramolecular cyclization of alkynes promoted with diselenides via electrooxidation. A wide range of selenium-substituted benzo[b]furan derivatives were obtained in good to excellent yields with high regioselectivity under constant current in an undivided cell equipped with carbon and platinum plates as the anode and cathode, respectively. Moreover, the convergent approach exhibited good functional group tolerance and could be easily scaled up with good efficiency, providing rapid access to a diverse range of selenylated benzo[b]furans derivatives from simple, readily available starting materials.

Silver-catalysed three-component reactions of alkynyl aryl ketones, element selenium, and boronic acids leading to 3-organoselenylchromones

An Ag-catalysed three-component reaction of alkynyl aryl ketones bearing an ortho-methoxy group, element selenium, and arylboronic acid, providing a facile route to selenofunctionalized chromone products has been developed. This protocol features high efficiency and high regioselectivity, and the use of selenium powder as the selenium source. Mechanistic experiments indicated that the combined oxidative effect of (bis(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo)benzene and oxygen in the air pushes the catalytic redox cycle of the Ag catalyst and the phenylselenium trifluoroacetate formed in situ is the key intermediate of the PIFA-mediated 6-endo-electrophilic cyclization and selenofunctionalization reaction of alkynyl aryl ketones.

Synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted selenophenes via a copper-catalyzed regioselective [2+2+1] cyclization of terminal alkynes and selenium

Herein, a straightforward method for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted selenophenes via [2+2+1] cyclization of easily accessible terminal alkynes and elemental selenium has been developed. This reaction features high atom- and step-economy, excellent regioselectivity, good functional group tolerance and the use of stable and non-toxic selenium as a selenium source. A series of control experiments suggests that the reaction might undergo Glaser coupling reaction of two molecules of alkynes, followed by insertion of H₂Se and subsequent cyclization. Moreover, the newly formed products can be further converted to diverse conjugated selenophene-based derivatives, demonstrating their potential applications in organic synthesis and materials science.

Silver-catalyzed three-component reaction of uracils, arylboronic acids, and selenium: synthesis of 5-arylselanyluracils

Herein, we describe a simple and general multi-component synthesis of 5-arylselanyluracils by the regioselective C–H selenation of uracils. Reactions of uracils with arylboronic acid and Se powder in the presence of AgNO₃ (10 mol%) at 120 °C under aerobic conditions afforded various 5-arylselanyluracils. The source of the introduced selanyl group was prepared from a commercially available arylboronic acid and Se powder in the reaction system, thereby ensuring a simple and efficient protocol. This reaction represents the first example of the synthesis of a 5-arylselanyluracil in a multi-component system.

A simple and general multicomponent synthesis of 5-arylselanyluracils by regioselective C–H selenation of uracils is described.
