Abstract
The syntheses, structures, luminescence and magnetic properties of a new series of Ln(III) complexes of the formula [Ln(L)(H2O)2(DMF)2][Ln(L)2] (in which H2L is N,N'-ethylaminebis[1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-formylimino-2-pyrazoline-5-one]; Ln(III) - Gd (1), Tb (2), or Dy (3) ions). The crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements for all the above-mentioned complexes. The crystals of these compounds consist of cationic [Ln(L)(H2O)2(DMF)2]+ and anionic [Ln(L)2] moieties which form a 3D supramolecular architecture by the H-bonds and electrostatic forces. Luminescence emission in the visible range was observed for Tb(III) and Dy(III) compounds upon ligand sensitization, with moderate quantum yields of 3.2% for the Dy complex and 24.2% for the Tb analogue. Moreover the Tb(III) complex demonstrates triboluminescence activity. The dynamic magnetization studies revealed that 1 and 2 demonstrate field-induced magnetic relaxation with effective energy barriers, ΔE|kB = 24 K (for 1) and 85 K (for 2), while the Dy complex 3 exhibits slow relaxation of magnetization in zero field with an activation energy of 256 K.

Abstract
A pivotal challenge in quantum technologies lies in reconciling long coherence times with efficient manipulation of the quantum states of a system. Lanthanide atoms, with their well-localized 4f electrons, emerge as a promising solution to this dilemma if provided with a rational design for manipulation and detection. Here we construct tailored spin structures to perform electron spin resonance on a single lanthanide atom using a scanning tunneling microscope. A magnetically coupled structure made of an erbium and a titanium atom enables us to both drive the erbium's 4f electron spins and indirectly probe them through the titanium's 3d electrons. The erbium spin states exhibit an extended spin relaxation time and a higher driving efficiency compared to 3d atoms with spin ½ in similarly coupled structures. Our work provides a new approach to accessing highly protected spin states, enabling their coherent control in an all-electric fashion.

Abstract
We have prepared and characterized three coordination polymers formulated as [Dy2(C6O4Cl2)3(fma)6] ⋅ 4.5fma (1) and [Dy2(C6O4X2)3(fma)6] ⋅ 4fma ⋅ 2H2O with X=Br (2) and Cl (3), where fma=formamide and C6O4X2 2-=3,6-disubstituted-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone dianion with X=Cl (chloranilato) and Br (bromanilato). Compounds 1 and 3 are solvates obtained with slow and fast precipitation methods, respectively. Compounds 2 and 3 are isostructural and only differ in the X group of the anilato ligand. The three compounds present (6,3)-gon two-dimensional hexagonal honey-comb structures. Magnetic measurements indicate that the three compounds show slow relaxation of the magnetization at low temperatures when a continuous magnetic field is applied, although with different relaxation times and energy barriers depending on X and the crystallisation molecules. Compounds 1-3 represent the first examples of anilato-based lattices with formamide and field-induced slow relaxation of the magnetization.

Abstract
We describe early and recent advances in the fascinating field of combined magnetic and optical properties of inorganic coordination compounds and in particular of 3d-4f single molecule magnets. We cover various applied techniques which allow for the correlation of results obtained in the frequency and time domain in order to highlight the specific properties of these compounds and the future challenges towards multidimensional spectroscopic tools. An important point is to understand the details of the interplay of magnetic and optical properties through performing time-resolved studies in the presence of external fields especially magnetic ones. This will enable further exploration of this fundamental interactions i. e. the two components of electromagnetic radiation influencing optical properties.

Triple Inverse Sandwich versus End-On Diazenido: Bonding Motifs across a Series of Rhenium-Lanthanide and -Actinide Complexes. Inorg Chem 2024; 63:7177-7188. Abstract
While synthesizing a series of rhenium-lanthanide triple inverse sandwich complexes, we unexpectedly uncovered evidence for rare examples of end-on lanthanide dinitrogen coordination for certain heavy lanthanide elements as well as for uranium. We begin our report with the synthesis and characterization of a series of trirhenium triple inverse sandwich complexes with the early lanthanides, Ln[(μ-η5:η5-Cp)Re(BDI)]3(THF) (1-Ln, Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm; Cp = cyclopentadienide, BDI = N,N'-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-3,5-dimethyl-β-diketiminate). However, as we moved across the lanthanide series, we ran into an unexpected result for gadolinium in which we structurally characterized two products for gadolinium, namely, 1-Gd (analogous to 1-Ln) and a diazenido dirhenium double inverse sandwich complex Gd[(μ-η1:η1-N2)Re(η5-Cp)(BDI)][(μ-η5:η5-Cp)Re(BDI)]2(THF)2 (2-Gd). Evidence for analogues of 2-Gd was spectroscopically observed for other heavy lanthanides (2-Ln, Ln = Tb, Dy, Er), and, in the case of 2-Er, structurally authenticated. These complexes represent the first observed examples of heterobimetallic end-on lanthanide dinitrogen coordination. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were utilized to probe relevant bonding interactions and reveal energetic differences between both the experimental and putative 1-Ln and 2-Ln complexes. We also present additional examples of novel end-on heterobimetallic lanthanide and actinide diazenido moieties in the erbium-rhenium complex (η8-COT)Er[(μ-η1:η1-N2)Re(η5-Cp)(BDI)](THF)(Et2O) (3-Er) and uranium-rhenium complex [Na(2.2.2-cryptand)][(η5-C5H4SiMe3)3U(μ-η1:η1-N2)Re(η5-Cp)(BDI)] (4-U). Finally, we expand the scope of rhenium inverse sandwich coordination by synthesizing divalent double inverse sandwich complex Yb[(μ-η5:η5-Cp)Re(BDI)]2(THF)2 (5-Yb), as well as base-free, homoleptic rhenium-rare earth triple inverse sandwich complex Y[(μ-η5:η5-Cp)Re(BDI)]3 (6-Y).

Abstract
This paper uses deep learning to present a proof-of-concept for data-driven chemistry in single-molecule magnets (SMMs). Previous discussions within SMM research have proposed links between molecular structures (crystal structures) and single-molecule magnetic properties; however, these have only interpreted the results. Therefore, this study introduces a data-driven approach to predict the properties of SMM structures using deep learning. The deep-learning model learns the structural features of the SMM molecules by extracting the single-molecule magnetic properties from the 3D coordinates presented in this paper. The model accurately determined whether a molecule was a single-molecule magnet, with an accuracy rate of approximately 70% in predicting the SMM properties. The deep-learning model found SMMs from 20 000 metal complexes extracted from the Cambridge Structural Database. Using deep-learning models for predicting SMM properties and guiding the design of novel molecules is promising.

Abstract
We report the synthesis, structural characterization and magnetic properties of a series of Co(III)/Dy(III) complexes built up from an N-alkyl derivatized amino-alcohol ligand diethanolamine, functionalized with CnH2n+1 alkyl chains (n = 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10). While n = 3 afforded a butterfly {CoIII2DyIII2} core, the other alkyl chains (n = 4, 6, 8) afforded hexanuclear triangle-in-triangle {CoIII3DyIII3} complexes as shown by single-crystal X-ray determinations. Infrared spectroscopy allows us to characterize the C10 derivative complex, which did not crystallize. Magnetic ac susceptibility data collected below 10 K at driving frequencies up to 10 kHz under zero-dc field and up to 1 T provide insight into the SMM behaviour of the studied complexes. The characteristic time of the magnetization dynamics can be understood in terms of the competing Raman, Direct and Orbach-like mechanisms. A relationship between the magnetization dynamics within the family of complexes and the increasing alkyl chain length is discussed.

Abstract
A dinuclear complex [(H2O)Zn(LH)Eu(NO3)3] containing a hexadentate Schiff-base {N2O4}-donor ligand LH2- was prepared and characterized by X-ray structural analysis and IR, electronic and fluorescence spectroscopy. DC magnetic data show that upon heating the diamagnetic complex with the ground state Eu(III)-7F0 and Zn(II)-1S switches to paramagnetic species due to the population of 7FJ (J = 1 to 6) magnetic multiplets. The magnetic susceptibility increases from zero, passes through a maximum, and then decreases upon heating. This behaviour can be explained using a spin-orbit Hamiltonian with an axial distortion term. There is an alternative interpretation of the susceptibility data based on a two-level model similar to that used in the spin crossover theory.

Abstract
A new linear trinuclear Co(II)3 complex with a formula of [{Co(μ-L)}2Co] has been prepared by self-assembly of Co(II) ions and the N3O3-tripodal Schiff base ligand H3L, which is obtained from the condensation of 1,1,1-tris(aminomethyl)ethane and salicylaldehyde. Single X-ray diffraction shows that this compound is centrosymmetric with triple-phenolate bridging groups connecting neighboring Co(II) ions, leading to a paddle-wheel-like structure with a pseudo-C3 axis lying in the Co-Co-Co direction. The Co(II) ions at both ends of the Co(II)3 molecule exhibit distorted trigonal prismatic CoN3O3 geometry, whereas the Co(II) at the middle presents an elongated trigonal antiprismatic CoO6 geometry. The combined analysis of the magnetic data and theoretical calculations reveal strong easy-axis magnetic anisotropy for both types of Co(II) ions (|D| values higher than 115 cm-1) with the local anisotropic axes lying on the pseudo-C3 axis of the molecule. The magnetic exchange interaction between the middle and ends Co(II) ions, extracted by using either a Hamiltonian accounting for the isotropic magnetic coupling and ZFS or the Lines' model, was found to be medium to strong and antiferromagnetic in nature, whereas the interaction between the external Co(II) ions is weak antiferromagnetic. Interestingly, the compound exhibits slow relaxation of magnetization and open hysteresis at zero field and therefore SMM behavior. The significant magnetic exchange coupling found for [{Co(μ-L)}2Co] is mainly responsible for the quenching of QTM, which combined with the easy-axis local anisotropy of the CoII ions and the collinearity of their local anisotropy axes with the pseudo-C3 axis favors the observation of SMM behavior at zero field.

These hexanuclear assemblies are made up of two trinuclear triangular sub-units linked through the oxygen atoms of two phenoxide bridging groups in a corner sharing arrangement. Magnetic studies reveal that 1 displays a magnetocaloric effect with a maximum value of -ΔSm = 21.03 J kg-1 K-1 at T = 3 K and under an applied field change ΔB = 5 T. Complex 3 shows slow relaxation of magnetization even under zero applied field although a clear maximum in the ac susceptibility plots cannot be seen. However, under an optimal applied field of 0.2 T, clear maxima are observed in the out-of-phase (χ''M) component of the ac susceptibility in the temperature range 3.5 K (2 kHz) to 10.5 K (10 kHz). The temperature dependence of the relaxation times could be fitted to the sum of Orbach, Raman and QTM relaxation processes affording the following parameters: τo = 3.4(9) × 10-8 s, Ueff = 94(2) K, BRaman = 16.43(1) K-n s-1, n = 3.2(3) and τQTM = 0.0044(3) s. 4, under an applied magnetic field of 0.2 T, shows slow relaxation of magnetization through a thermally activated Orbach process with Ueff = 18.2(9) K and τo = 3.5(3) × 10-8 s.

Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POM), as inorganic polydentate oxygen donors, provide binding opportunities for oxophilic lanthanide metal centers to construct novel Ln-substituted POM materials with exciting structures and attractive properties. Herein, we have reported four arsenotungstate [α-AsW9O33]9- based lanthanide-containing polyoxometalates [CsxK36-x{Ln6(H2O)12(α-AsW9O33)6}]·yH2O (Ln = Er (1), Gd (2), Ho (3), and Tb (4)), which are synthesized in an alkaline medium. Complexes 1-3 are the dimeric structures of [Ln3(H2O)6(α-AsW9O33)3]18- polyanions, whereas complex 4 is a hexamer of the polyanion [Tb (H2O)2(α-AsW9O33)]6- as a building unit. In all the complexes, [α-AsW9O33]9- units are staggered up and down and give rise to the chair conformation, where one [α-AsW9O33]9- unit bridges two Ln(III) centers through four μ2-oxygen and two terminal oxygen atoms, resulting in the hexagonal arrangement of lanthanides. The dynamic magnetic measurement indicates that only complex 1 exhibits slow relaxation of magnetization with an applied dc field (1500 Oe). To gain insight into the slow relaxation of magnetization in complex 1, the ligand-field parameters and the splitting of the ground-state multiplet of the Er(III) ions have been estimated. The ab initio calculation results confirm that the ground state wave function of these molecules (1, 3, and 4) is mainly composed of a mixture of mJ states, and the non-axial crystal field (CF) terms are more predominant than the axial CF term. The solid-state fluorescence spectra of 1-4 reveal that the photoexcitation O → M ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) of arsenotungstate fragments is effectively quenched due to the spatial coordination environment around the Ln(III) ion.

Abstract
We report the synthesis, crystal structures, photophysical and magnetic properties of 11 novel lanthanide complexes with the asymmetrically functionalized trispyrazolylborate ligand 4-nitrotrispyrazolylborate, 4-NO2Tp-: [Ln(4-NO2Tp)3] (Ln = La-Dy, except Pm). In-depth photophysical characterization of the ligands via luminescence, reflectance and absorption spectroscopic techniques, decay lifetimes, quantum yields supported by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and natural bond order (NBO) analysis reveal that n-NO2Tp- ligands are dominated by intra-ligand charge transfer (ILCT) transitions and that second-sphere interactions are critical to the stabilization of the T1 state of n-NO2Tp- ligands and hence their ability to sensitize Ln3+ emission. The luminescence properties of the complexes indicate that 4-NO2Tp- is a poor sensitizer of Ln3+ emission, unlike 3-NO2Tp-. Moreover, [Nd(4-NO2Tp)3] (crystallized as a hexane solvate) displays single-molecule magnet (SMM) properties, with longer relaxation times and larger barrier than the non-functionalized [NdTp3], attributed to the addition of the NO2-group and subsequent rigidification of the molecular structure.

Abstract
Single-molecule magnets (SMMs) have attracted much attention due to their potential applications in molecular spintronic devices. Rare earth SMMs are considered to be the most promising for application owing to their large magnetic moment and strong magnetic anisotropy. In this review, the recent progress in rare earth SMMs represented by mononuclear and dinuclear complexes is highlighted, especially for the modulation of magnetic anisotropy, effective energy barrier (Ueff) and blocking temperature (TB). The terbium- and dysprosium-based SMMs have a Ueff of 1541 cm-1 and an increased TB of 80 K. They break the boiling point temperature of liquid nitrogen. The development of the preparation technology of rare earth element SMMs is also summarized in an overview. This review has important implications and insights for the design and research of Ln-SMMs.

Abstract
Lanthanide-ligand complexes are key components of technological applications, and their properties depend on their structures in the solution phase, which are challenging to resolve experimentally or computationally. The coordination structure of the Eu3+ ion in different coordination environments in acetonitrile is examined using ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy. AIMD simulations are conducted for the solvated Eu3+ ion in acetonitrile, both with or without a terpyridyl ligand, and in the presence of either triflate or nitrate counterions. EXAFS spectra are calculated directly from AIMD simulations and then compared to experimentally measured EXAFS spectra. In acetonitrile solution, both nitrate and triflate anions are shown to coordinate directly to the Eu3+ ion forming either ten- or eight-coordinate solvent complexes where the counterions are binding as bidentate or monodentate structures, respectively. Coordination of a terpyridyl ligand to the Eu3+ ion limits the available binding sites for the solvent and anions. In certain cases, the terpyridyl ligand excludes any solvent binding and limits the number of coordinated anions. The solution structure of the Eu-terpyridyl complex with nitrate counterions is shown to have a similar arrangement of Eu3+ coordinating molecules as the crystal structure. This study illustrates how a combination of AIMD and EXAFS can be used to determine how ligands, solvent, and counterions coordinate with the lanthanide ions in solution.

Abstract
Enhancing blocking temperature (TB) is one of the holy grails in Single Molecule Magnets(SMMs), as any future potential application in this class of molecules is directly correlated to this parameter. Among many factors contributing to a reduction of TB value, Quantum Tunnelling of Magnetisation (QTM), a phenomenon that is a curse or a blessing based on the application sought after, tops the list. Theoretical tools based on density functional and ab initio CASSCF/RASSI-SO methods have played a prominent role in estimating various spin Hamiltonian parameters and establishing the mechanism of magnetization relaxation in this class of molecules. Particularly, various strategies to quench QTM effects go hand-in-hand with experiments, and different methods proposed to quell QTM effects are scattered in the literature. In this perspective, we have explored various approaches that are proposed in the literature to quench QTM effects, and these include the role of (i) local symmetry of lanthanides, (ii) super-exchange interaction in {3d-4f} complexes, (iii) direct-exchange interaction in {radical-4f} and metal-metal bonded complexes to suppress the QTM, (iv) utilizing external stimuli such as an electric field or pressure to modulate the QTM and (v) avoiding QTM effects by stabilising toroidal states in 4f and {3d-4f} clusters. We believe the strategies summarized here will help to design new-generation SMMs.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of [(L)DyIII(Cy3PO)2]·[BPh4] (1-Dy) (where H2L = 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis-benzoylhydrazone and Cy = cyclohexyl) which crystallized in the triclinic, P1̄ space group. The local geometry around Dy(III) in 1-Dy was found to be pentagonal bipyramidal (pseudo-D5h). The AC magnetic susceptibility measurements performed on 1-Dy and on its diluted 1-Y(Dy) samples showed a typical single-molecule magnet signature revealed by the appearance of AC-frequency dependent out-of-phase susceptibility signals in the absence of a static magnetic field. The out-of-phase AC susceptibility signals were well resolved on the application of a small magnetic field (HDC = 500 Oe) and yielded an energy barrier for magnetization flipping of Ueff/kB = 50 K for the diluted derivative. The magnetic studies on 1-Dy and 1-Y(Dy) and data analysis further confirm that Raman and QTM under-barrier magnetic relaxations play a crucial role in lowering Ueff despite the almost axial nature of the Dy(III) ion in 1-Dy. We have rationalized these observations through detailed ab initio calculations performed on the X-ray crystal structure of 1-Dy.

Abstract
A new family of lanthanide compounds has been synthesized using 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane dioxide (dppeO2) as an O-donor ligand through the phosphoryl group to lanthanide(III) cations and structurally, magnetically and optically studied. Depending on the lanthanide, two different topologies appear: the two-dimensional structure [LnIII(dppeO2)1.5(NO3)3(H2O)0.5]n (Ln = Ce (1), Sm (2) and Dy (6)) and the one-dimensional structure [Ln(dppeO2)(NO3)3DMF]n (Ln = Eu (3), Gd (4) and Tb (5)). Some of the Ln-derived complexes have been used as structural probes, while others have been synthesized to use the specific characteristics of each cation to take advantage of their magnetic/luminescence properties. Complex 6 presents slow relaxation of the magnetization while 2, 3 and 5 present emitting properties in the visible range.

Abstract
We exploit the high versatility of the solvent ethylene glycol (eg = CH2OH-CH2OH) acting as a ligand with three different coordination modes: terminal (κO), chelate (κ2O,O'), and bridge (1κO,2κO') to prepare a novel family of six different coordination polymers with DyIII and three different anilato ligands (3,6-disubstituted-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone dianion = C6O4X22-, with X = H, Cl, and Br). With the X = H derivative (dhbq2-), we have prepared [Dy2(dhbq)3(eg)2(μ-eg)]·4eg·2H2O (1), a 3D diamond-like network with a chelate and bridging eg molecules. With the X = Cl derivative (chloranilato), we have prepared [Dy2(C6O4Cl2)3(eg)4]·2eg·H2O (2) and [Dy2(C6O4Cl2)3(μ-eg)(H2O)4]·2eg·7H2O (3). Compound 2 has a 2D (6,3)-gon brick-wall lattice and contains a chelate and a terminal eg molecule. Compound 3 has a 3D diamond-like topology as 1, although now the chelate eg has been replaced by two water molecules. Finally, with the X = Br derivative (bromanilato), we have obtained [Dy2(C6O4Br2)3(eg)2(CH3OH)2]·2eg·4CH3OH (4), [Dy2(C6O4Br2)3(eg)4]·4eg (5), and [Dy2(C6O4Br2)3(eg)3(H2O)]·2eg·H2O (6). Compound 4 has a 2D (6,3)-gon herringbone topology and contains a chelate eg and a MeOH molecule. Compounds 5 and 6 have a 2D (6,3)-gon brick-wall topology with a chelate and a terminal eg molecules (in 5 and in one of the two independent Dy centers of 6). The other Dy center in 6 has a chelate eg and a water molecule. All the compounds show slow relaxation of the magnetization at low temperatures (in compounds 1, 2, and 5 with no applied DC field). The magnetization of compounds 1-6 relaxes through Orbach and direct mechanisms when a DC field is applied and through an Orbach and/or quantum tunneling mechanism when no DC field is applied.

Abstract
The chemical immobilization of cobalt(II) ions in a silica aerogel matrix enabled the synthesis of the first representative example of aerogel-based single-ion magnets. For the synthesis of the lyogels, methyl-trimethoxysilane and N-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl ethylenediamine were co-hydrolyzed, then the ethylenediamine groups that were immobilized on the silica matrix enabled the subsequent binding of cobalt(II) ions. Lyogels with various amounts of ethylenediamine moieties (0.1-15 mol %) were soaked in isopropanol solutions of cobalt(II) nitrate and further supercritically dried in carbon dioxide to obtain aerogels with a specific surface area of 210-596 m2·g-1, an apparent density of 0.403-0.740 cm3·g-1 and a porosity of 60-78%. The actual cobalt content in the aerogels was 0.01-1.50 mmol per 1 g of SiO2, which could easily be tuned by the concentration of ethylenediamine moieties in the silica matrix. The introduction of cobalt(II) ions into the ethylenediamine-modified silica aerogel promoted the stability of the diamine moieties at the supercritical drying stage. The molecular prototype of the immobilized cobalt(II) complex, bearing one ethylenediamine ligand [Co(en)(MeCN)(NO3)2], was synthesized and structurally characterized. Using magnetometry in the DC mode, it was shown that cobalt(II)-modified silica aerogels exhibited slow magnetic relaxation in a nonzero field. A decrease in cobalt(II) concentration in aerogels from 1.5 mmol to 0.14 mmol per 1 g of SiO2 resulted in a weakening of inter-ion interactions; the magnetization reversal energy barrier likewise increased from 4 to 18 K.

Abstract
A series of mononuclear lanthanoidate complexes isolated as [Bu4N][Ln(QCl4)] 1Ln (QCl = 5-chloro-8-quinolinolate; Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) have been prepared, characterised, and used as facile precursors to obtain a series of new heterobimetallic complexes as crystalline materials. Reaction of 1Ln with manganese nitrate forms [Ln2Mn(QCl)8] (2Ln, where Ln = Tb, Dy, Er and Yb) which have been structurally characterised in the cases of 2Tb and 2Yb. The heteroleptic trinuclear complex [Dy3(QCl)8Cl(OH2)], 3, has also been obtained. Compounds 1Dy, 1Tb, and 1Er display slow relaxation of magnetisation below 10K, particularly for the prolate Er3+ ion. These results also suggest that the positive effects of the change from mononuclear to trinuclear lanthanoid complexes enhance their single molecule magnetic (SMM) behaviour, as evidenced by the well resolved frequency dependent AC out-of-phase susceptibility maxima seen in the 2Ln systems, that have been analysed quantitatively. The synthesis used here provides a promising strategy in obtaining heterobimetallic complexes with quinolinolate ligands and also constructing efficient heterobimetallic SMMs.

Abstract
Three decades of research in molecular nanomagnets have raised their magnetic memories from liquid helium to liquid nitrogen temperature thanks to a wise choice of the magnetic ion and coordination environment. Still, serendipity and chemical intuition played a main role. In order to establish a powerful framework for statistically driven chemical design, here we collected chemical and physical data for lanthanide-based nanomagnets, catalogued over 1400 published experiments, developed an interactive dashboard (SIMDAVIS) to visualise the dataset, and applied inferential statistical analysis. Our analysis shows that the Arrhenius energy barrier correlates unexpectedly well with the magnetic memory. Furthermore, as both Orbach and Raman processes can be affected by vibronic coupling, chemical design of the coordination scheme may be used to reduce the relaxation rates. Indeed, only bis-phthalocyaninato sandwiches and metallocenes, with rigid ligands, consistently present magnetic memory up to high temperature. Analysing magnetostructural correlations, we offer promising strategies for improvement, in particular for the preparation of pentagonal bipyramids, where even softer complexes are protected against molecular vibrations.

Abstract
Four new heterometallic complexes combining [MII(H2dapsc)]2+ cations with the chelating H2dapsc {2,6-diacetylpyridine-bis(semicarbazone)} Schiff base ligand and [Cr(CN)6]3- anion were synthesized: {[MII(H2dapsc)]CrIII(CN)6K(H2O)2.5(EtOH)0.5}n·1.2n(H2O), M = Mn (1) and Co (2), {[Mn(H2dapsc)]2Cr(CN)6(H2O)2}Cl·H2O (3) and {[Co(H2dapsc)]2Cr(CN)6(H2O)2}Cl·2EtOH·3H2O (4). In all the compounds, M(II) centers are seven-coordinated by N3O2 atoms of H2dapsc in the equatorial plane and N or O atoms of two apical -CN/water ligands. Crystals 1 and 2 are isostructural and contain infinite negatively charged chains of alternating [MII(H2dapsc)]2+ and [CrIII(CN)6]3- units linked by CN-bridges. Compounds 3 and 4 consist of centrosymmetric positively charged trimers in which two [MII(H2dapsc)]2+ cations are bound through one [CrIII(CN)6]3- anion. All structures are regulated by π-stacking of coplanar H2dapsc moieties as well as by an extensive net of hydrogen bonding. Adjacent chains in 1 and 2 interact also by coordination bonds via a pair of K+ ions. The compounds containing MnII (1, 3) and CoII (2, 4) show a significant difference in magnetic properties. The ac magnetic measurements revealed that complexes 1 and 3 behave as a spin glass and a field-induced single-molecule magnet, respectively, while 2 and 4 do not exhibit slow magnetic relaxation in zero and non-zero dc fields. The relationship between magnetic properties and non-covalent interactions in the structures 1-4 was traced.

Abstract
Using Na-encapsulated benzo[18]crown-6 (Na)(B18C6) as a counter cation, we successfully magnetically isolated a fluoride-bridging Dy dinuclear complex {[(PW11O39)Dy(H2O)2]2F} (Dy2POM) with lacunary Keggin ligands. (Na)(B18C6) formed two types of tetramers through C-H⋯O, π⋯π and C-H⋯π interactions, and each tetramer aligned in one dimension along the c-axis to form two types of channels. One channel was partially penetrated by a supramolecular cation from the ±a-axis direction, dividing the channel in the form of a "bamboo node". Dy2POM was spatially divided by this "bamboo node," which magnetically isolated one portion from the other. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility indicated a weak ferromagnetic interaction between the Dy ions bridged by fluoride. Dy2POM exhibited the magnetic relaxation characteristics of a single-molecule magnet, including the dependence of AC magnetic susceptibility on temperature and frequency. Magnetic relaxation can be described by the combination of thermally active Orbach and temperature-independent quantum tunneling processes. The application of a static magnetic field effectively suppressed the relaxation due to quantum tunneling.

Abstract
The synthesis, structure, and magnetic properties of three DyIII complexes of different nuclearity, [Dy2(H2L)2(NO3)] [NO3]·2H2O·CH3OH (1), [Dy4(HL)2(piv)4(OH)2] (2), and [Dy6(H2L)3(μ3-OH)(μ3-CO3)3(CH3OH)4(H2O)8] 5Cl·3H2O (3) [(H4L) = 6-((bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino)-N'-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)picolinohydrazide)], are described. This variety of complexes with the same ligand could be obtained by playing with the metal-to-ligand molar ratio, the type of DyIII salt, the kind of base, and the presence/absence of coligand. 1 is a dinuclear complex, while 2 is a tetranuclear assembly with a butterfly-shaped topology. 3 is a homometallic hexanuclear complex that exhibits a propeller-shaped topology. Interestingly, in this complex 3, three atmospheric carbon dioxide molecules are trapped in the form of carbonate ions, which assist in holding the hexanuclear complex together. All of the complexes reveal a slow relaxation of magnetization even in zero applied field. Complex 1 is a zero-field SMM with an effective energy barrier (Ueff) of magnetization reversal equal to 87(1) K and a relaxation time of τ0 = 6.4(3) × 10-9 s. Under an applied magnetic field of 0.1 T, these parameters change to Ueff = 101(3) K, τ0 = 2.5(1) × 10-9 s. Complex 2 shows zero-field SMM behavior with Ueff = 31(2) K, τ0 = 4.2(1) × 10-7 s or τ01 = 2(1) × 10-7 s, Ueff1 = 37(8) K, τ02 = 5(6) × 10-5 s, and Ueff2 = 8(4) by considering two Orbach relaxation processes, while 3, also a zero-field SMM, shows a double relaxation of magnetization [Ueff1 = 62.4(3) K, τ01 = 4.6(3) × 10-8 s, and Ueff1 = 2(1) K, τ02 = 4.6(2) × 10-5 s]. The ab initio calculations indicated that in these complexes, the Kramer's ground doublet is characterized by an axial g-tensor with the prevalence of the mJ = ±15/2 component, as well as that due to the weak magnetic coupling between the metal centers, the magnetic relaxation, which is dominated by the single DyIII centers rather than by the exchange-coupled states, takes place via Raman/Orbach or TA-QTM. Moreover, theoretical calculations support a toroidal magnetic state for complex 2.

Abstract
Five new mononuclear lanthanide complexes, [LnL2][Et3NH]·THF/H2O (Ln = Nd, Tb, Dy) (H2LCl = 2-bis(2-hydroxy-3,5-dichloro benzyl)aminomethyl]pyridine), Ln = Nd (1), Tb (2), and Dy (3), and (H2LBr = 2-bis(2-hydroxy-3,5-dibromo benzyl)aminomethyl]pyridine), Ln = Nd (4, H2O) and Tb (5), were synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Being isostructural in all the five cases, the metal center is octa-coordinated with a triangular dodecahedron (D2d symmetry) geometry, and it is independent of the halogen substitution (Cl/Br). This close similarity is due to the composite interplay of hydrogen/halogen bond interactions that control the overall crystal packing, yet notable differences in association patterns among the individual ones arise from the subtle stereo-electronic requirement of individual molecules in the three-dimensional (3D) architecture. Hirshfeld surface and density functional theory (DFT) calculations clearly vouch for the importance of the hydrogen bond and halogen bond interactions observed in the structure. Detailed magnetic measurements using direct-current and alternating-current susceptibility measurements show slow magnetic relaxation in 3, a characteristic feature of the single-molecule magnets (SMMs), which is not shown by 1 and 2. Steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence of Tb(III) complexes shows a strong ligand-to-metal energy transfer that can be modulated by changing the substitution on phenolic ligands. The results from these analyses indicate that it may be advantageous to consider the subtle role of hydrogen bond (HB)/halogen bond (XB) intermolecular interactions judiciously for the design of SMMs and luminescent materials based on halogen-substituted ligands.

Abstract
Four cobalt(II) complexes, [Co(L1)2(NCX)2(MeOH)2] (X = S (1), Se (2)) and {[Co(L2)2(NCX)2]}n (X = S (3), Se (4)) (L1 = 2,5dipyridyl-3,4,-ethylenedioxylthiophene and L2 = 2,5diethynylpyridinyl-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), were synthesized by incorporating ethylenedioxythiophene based redox-active luminescence ligands. All these complexes have been well characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, spectroscopic and magnetic investigations. Magneto-structural studies showed that 1 and 2 adopt a mononuclear structure with CoN4O2 octahedral coordination geometry while 3 and 4 have a 2D [4 x 4] rhombic grid coordination networks (CNs) where each cobalt(II) center is in a CoN6 octahedral coordination environment. Static magnetic measurements reveal that all four complexes displayed a high spin (HS) (S = 3/2) state between 2 and 280 K which was further confirmed by X-band and Q-band EPR studies. Remarkably, along with the molecular dimensionality (0D and 2D) the modification in the axial coligands lead to a significant difference in the dynamic magnetic properties of the monomers and CNs at low temperatures. All complexes display slow magnetic relaxation behavior under an external dc magnetic field. For the complexes with NCS- as coligand observed higher energy barrier for spin reversal in comparison to the complexes with NCSe- as coligand, while mononuclear complex 1 exhibited a higher energy barrier than that of CN 3. Theoretical calculations at the DFT and CASSCF level of theory have been performed to get more insight into the electronic structure and magnetic properties of all four complexes.

Abstract
Four new cyano-bridged DyIII-CrIII, DyIII-FeIII, HoIII-CrIII and HoIII-FeIII bimetallic coordination polymers were synthesized by the reaction of [Ln(H2dapsc)(H2O)4](NO3)3 (Ln = Dy, Ho); H2dapsc = 2,6-diacetylpyridinebis(semicarbazone)) with K3[M(CN)6] (M = Cr, Fe) in H2O, resulting in the substitution of two water molecules in the coordination sphere of rare earth by paramagnetic tricharged hexacyanides of Fe and Cr. The complexes are isostructural and consist of alternating [Ln(H2dapsc)(H2O)2]3+ and [M(CN)6]3− units linked by bridges of two cis-cyano ligands of the anion to form square-wave chains. The ac magnetic measurements revealed that the DyCr and DyFe complexes are field-induced single molecule magnets, while their Ho analogs do not exhibit slow magnetic relaxation.

One-Dimensional Gadolinium (III) Complexes Based on Alpha- and Beta-Amino Acids Exhibiting Field-Induced Slow Relaxation of Magnetization. INORGANICS 2022. Abstract
Gadolinium (III) complexes exhibiting slow relaxation of magnetization are uncommon and have been much less studied than other compounds based on anisotropic lanthanide (III) ions. We prepared two one-dimensional gadolinium (III) complexes based on α-glycine (gly) and β-alanine (β-ala) amino acids, with the formula {[Gd2(gly)6(H2O)4](ClO4)6·5H2O}n (1) and {[Gd2(β-ala)6(H2O)4](ClO4)6·H2O}n (2), which were magneto-structurally characterized. Compounds 1 and 2 crystallize in the triclinic system (space group Pī). In complex 1, two Gd (III) ions are eight-coordinate and bound to six oxygen atoms from six gly ligands and two oxygen atoms from two water molecules, the metal ions showing different geometries (bicapped trigonal prism and square antiprism). In complex 2, two Gd (III) ions are nine-coordinate and bound to seven oxygen atoms from six β-ala ligands and two oxygen atoms from two water molecules in the same geometry (capped square antiprism). Variable-temperature dc magnetic susceptibility measurements performed on microcrystalline samples of 1 and 2 show similar magnetic behavior for both compounds, with antiferromagnetic coupling between the Gd (III) ions connected through carboxylate groups. Ac magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal slow relaxation of magnetization in the presence of an external dc field in both compounds, hence indicating the occurrence of the field-induced single-molecule magnet (SMM) phenomenon in both 1 and 2.

The Complete Series of Lanthanoid-Chloranilato Lattices with Dimethylsulfoxide: Role of the Lanthanoid Size on the Coordination Number and Crystal Structure. CRYSTALS 2022. Abstract
We report the synthesis, structural and magnetic characterization of the complete series of lanthanoid-based chloranilato 2D lattices with dimethylsulfoxide (dmso) formulated as: [Ln2(C6O4Cl2)3(dmso)6] with Ln = La(1), Ce(2), Pr(3), Nd(4), Sm(5), Eu(6), Gd(7) and Tb(8) or [Ln2(C6O4Cl2)3(dmso)4]·2dmso·2H2O with Ln = Dy(9), Ho(10), Er(11), Tm(12) and Yb(13); C6O4Cl22− = dianion of 3,6-dichloro-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone = chloranilato. Single crystal X-ray analysis shows that the largest Ln(III) ions (La–Tb, 1–8) crystallise in the monoclinic P21/n space group (phase I), whereas the smallest ones (Dy–Yb, 9–13) crystallise in the triclinic P-1 space group (phase II). Both phases show a (6,3)-2D network with the typical hexagonal honeycomb lattice, although phase I presents important distortions, resulting in rectangular cavities with a brick-wall orientation. The largest ions (phase I) show a coordination number of nine with a capped square antiprismatic geometry in contrast to the smallest ions (phase II) that present a coordination number of eight with a triangular dodecahedral geometry. Magnetic measurements show that all the Ln(III) ions are magnetically well isolated, leading to the presence of a field induced single-ion magnet behaviour in the Er derivative, with an energy barrier of 23(2) K for DC fields of 20, 50 and 100 mT.

Abstract
By simple reactions involving various cobalt(II) carboxylates (acetate and in situ prepared pivalate and 4-hydroxybenzoate salts) and neocuproine (neo), we were able to prepare three different carboxylate complexes with the general formula [Co(neo)(RCOO)2] (R = –CH3 for 1, (CH3)3C– for 2, and 4OH-C4H6– for 3). The [Co(neo)(RCOO)2] molecules in the crystal structures of 1–3 adopt a rather distorted coordination environment, with the largest trigonal distortion observed for 1, whereas 2 and 3 are similarly distorted from ideal octahedral geometry. The combined theoretical and experimental investigations of magnetic properties revealed that the spin Hamiltonian formalism was not a valid approach and the L-S Hamiltonian had to be used to reveal very large magnetic anisotropies for 1–3. The measurements of AC susceptibility showed that all three compounds exhibited slow-relaxation of magnetization in a weak external static magnetic field, and thus can be classified as field-induced single-ion magnets. It is noteworthy that 1 also exhibits a weak AC signal in a zero-external magnetic field.

Abstract
Herein, we report two mononuclear dysprosium complexes [Dy(H4L){B(OMe)2(Ph)2}2](Cl)·MeOH (1) and [Dy(H4L){MeOH)2(NCS)2}](Cl) (2) [where H4L = 2,2'-(pyridine-2,6-diylbis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylidene))bis(N-phenylhydrazinecarboxamide)] with different axial coordination environments. The structural analysis revealed that the pentadentate H4L ligand binds through the equatorial position in both complexes. In complex 1, the axial positions are occupied by bidentate dimethoxydiphenyleborate [B(OMe)2(Ph)2]-. On the other hand, in complex 2, one axial position is occupied by two NCS- and one MeOH molecule while another MeOH molecule is coordinated to the other axial position. Magnetic measurements disclose the presence of field-induced slow relaxation of magnetization with an energy barrier of Ueff = 30 K for 1 whereas no such effective barrier was observed in complex 2. Detailed analysis of field and temperature dependence of the relaxation time confirms the major role of Raman, QTM, and direct processes rather than the Orbach process in complex 1. It was observed that [B(OMe)2(Ph)2]- provides higher axial anisotropy which slows down the QTM process (relaxation time for the QTM process is 2.70 × 10-5 s) in 1 as compared to NCS anions and MeOH molecules in 2 (1.03 × 10-8 s), and is responsible for the absence of an effective energy barrier in the latter complex as confirmed by ab initio calculations. The calculations also show that the presence of a large bidentate dimethoxydiphenyleborate ligand in axial positions may result in high-performance Dy-based single-ion magnets.

Abstract
Isolation of cyclic (alkyl) amino carbenes (cAACs) in 2005 has been a major achievement in the field of stable carbenes due to their better electronic properties. cAACs and bicyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbene (BicAAC) in essence are the most electrophilic as well as nucleophilic carbenes are known till date. Due to their excellent electronic properties in terms of nucleophilic and electrophilic character, cAACs have been utilized in different areas of chemistry, including stabilization of low valent main group and transition metal species, activation of small molecules, and catalysis. The applications of cAACs in catalysis have opened up new avenues of research in the field of cAAC chemistry. This review summarizes the major results of cAAC chemistry published until August 2021.

Abstract
We report a family of organometallic rare-earth complexes with the general formula (COT)M(Cpttt) (where (COT)2− = cyclooctatetraenide, (Cpttt)− = 1,2,4-tri(tert-butyl)cyclopentadienide, M = Y(iii), Nd(iii), Dy(iii) and Er(iii)). Similarly to the prototypical Er(iii) analog featuring pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ligand (Cp*)−, (COT)Er(Cpttt) behaves as a single-ion magnet. However, the introduction of the sterically demanding (Cpttt)− imposes geometric constraints that lead to a simplified magnetic relaxation behavior compared to the (Cp*)− containing complexes. Consequently, (COT)Er(Cpttt) can be viewed as a model representative of this organometallic single-ion magnet architecture. In addition, we demonstrate that the increased steric profile associated with the (Cpttt)− ligand permits preparation, structural characterization and interrogation of magnetic properties of the early-lanthanide complex, (COT)Nd(Cpttt). Such a mononuclear derivative could not be obtained when a (Cp*)− ligand was employed, a testament to larger ionic radius of this early lanthanide ion. Application of steric control principles allows for simplification of the magnetic behavior of an iconic single-ion magnet architecture as well as the preparation of its previously inaccessible representative.![]()

Abstract
A series of rare six-coordinated dinuclear Ln(III) complexes [Ln2(μ-Cl)2Cl4Li2(L)2(THF)6] were structurally characterized using a bulky amide ligand (L; Ln = Gd(1), Dy(2) and Y(3)). Detailed magnetic studies disclose that a weak antiferromagnetic coupling exists within 1 (-0.09 cm-1) and 2 (-0.07 cm-1; -2J Hamiltonian). Additionally, this study unveils the importance of the amide ligand at the coordination site of Dy(III), which manifests a slow relaxation of magnetization in the absence of an external magnetic field. This has been rationalized by detailed ab initio calculations as well as the electronic structure determination of 1 and 2.

Abstract
Targeted approaches for manipulating the coordination geometry of lanthanide ions are a promising way to synthesize high-performance single-molecule magnets (SMMs), but most of the successful examples reported to date focus on mononuclear complexes. Herein, we describe a strategy to assemble dinuclear SMMs with DyIII ions in approximate D5h coordination geometry based on pyrazolate-based macrocyclic ligands with two binding sites. A Dy4 complex with a rhomb-like arrangement of four DyIII as well as two dinuclear complexes having axial chlorido ligands (Dy2·Cl and Dy2*·Cl) were obtained; in the latter case, substituting Cl- by SCN- gave Dy2·SCN. Magneto-structural studies revealed that the μ-OH bridges with short Dy-O bonds dominate the magnetic anisotropy of the DyIII ions in centrosymmetric Dy4 to give a vortex type diamagnetic ground state. Dynamic magnetic studies of Dy4 identified two relaxation processes under zero field, one of which is suppressed after applying a dc field. For complexes Dy2·Cl and Dy2*·Cl, the DyIII ions feature almost perfect D5h environment, but both complexes only behave as field-induced SMMs (Ueff = 19 and 25 K) due to the weak axial Cl- donors. In Dy2·SCN additional MeOH coordination leads to a distorted D2d geometry of the DyIII ions, yet SMMs properties at zero field are observed due to the relatively strong axial ligand field provided by SCN- (Ueff = 43 K). Further elaboration of preorganizing macrocyclic ligands appears to be a promising strategy for imposing a desired coordination geometry with parallel orientation of the anisotropy axes of proximate DyIII ions in a targeted approach.

Abstract
Herein a 1D Co(II) coordination polymer of formula [Co(η1-L1)(η2-L1)(py)2(H2O)]n (CoCP) has been synthesised using the rigid H2L1 proligand, containing a long spacer bearing two triple bonds. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction showed that Co(II) adopts a distorted octahedral geometry. The state-averaged complete active self-consistent field (SA-CASSCF) calculation showed that the ground state of CoCP is a high spin quartet with a highly multiconfigurational character of its electronic structure. Due to the large intra- and intermolecular distances between the spin carriers, the magnetic interactions are negligible and the zero-field splitting (ZFS) effects of cobalt(II) ions are predominant. This behavior was confirmed by direct current (DC) magnetic measurements and theoretical calculations using the broken-symmetry approach. Quantum chemical calculations indicate that CoCP has a negative axial component possessing mixed tri-axial anisotropy. The DC magnetic susceptibility data were fitted with a Griffith-Figgis Hamiltonian and the obtained parameters are in good agreement with those simulated by the ab initio calculation. Alternating current (AC) magnetic measurements showed a field induced slow magnetic relaxation in CoCP, which is attributed to the hyperfine interaction effects.

Abstract
A family of four isostructural [Ln2Ni2(L)2(μ3-OCH3)2(μ1,3-PhCO2)2(PhCO2)2(CH3OH)4]·2CH3OH [where Ln = Gd (1), Tb (2), Dy (3) and Ho (4)] complexes has been synthesized using Schiff base ligand 2-[{(2-hydroxybenzyl)imino}methyl]-6-methoxyphenol (H2L). All the complexes possess a partial di-cubane core structure where the growth of the core is contingent upon the ligand anions and solvent generated μ3-OCH3 groups. DC magnetic analysis revealed dominating ferromagnetic interactions between the metal ions, however, we find no slow relaxation characteristics in the AC susceptibility. Further insight into the magnetic behavior of the reported complexes was achieved using DFT and CASSCF theoretical calculations, leading to the comprehension of the fast relaxation characteristics observed by magnetometry.
