Abstract
Although synthesis and design of MOFs are crucial factors to the successful implementation of targeted applications, there is still lack of knowledge among researchers about the synthesis of MOFs and their derived composites for practical applications. For example, many researchers manipulate study results, and it has become quite difficult to quit this habit specifically among the young researchers Undoubtedly, MOFs have become an excellent class of compounds but there are many challenges associated with their improvement to attain diverse applications. It has been noted that MOF-derived materials have gained considerable interest owing to their unique chemical properties. These compounds have exhibited excellent potential in various sectors such as energy, catalysis, sensing and environmental applications. It is worth mentioning that most of the researchers rely on commercially available MOFs for use as precursor supports, but it is an unethical and wrong practice because it prevents the exploration of the hidden diversity of similar materials. The reported studies have significant gaps and flaws, they do not have enough details about the exact parameters used for the synthesis of MOFs and their derived materials. For example, many young researchers claim that MOF-based materials cannot be synthesized as per the reported instructions for large-scale implementation. In this regard, current article provides a comprehensive review of the most recent advancements in the design of MOF-derived materials. The methodologies and applications have been evaluated together with their advantages and drawbacks. Additionally, this review suggests important precautions and solutions to overcome the drawbacks associated with their preparation. Applications of MOF-derived materials in the fields of energy, catalysis, sensing and environment have been discussed. No doubt, these materials have become excellent class but there are still many challenges ahead to specify it for the targeted applications.

Abstract
In this work, a hybrid nanocomposite material (PUC2@rGO) was prepared by integrating our previously developed Zn-MOF (PUC2) with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) through the wet impregnation method. The characterization of PUC2@rGO was performed using various analytical techniques, including FTIR, PXRD, FE-SEM, HR-TEM, XPS, zeta potential, and time-resolved FL spectroscopy. Our investigation primarily focused on assessing the composite's capability to detect water pollutants. Notably, PUC2@rGO demonstrated remarkable selectivity and sensitivity towards Pb2+ and Cu2+ ions via fluorescence quenching, exhibiting low detection limits and high quenching constant values. Spectroscopic analysis revealed that electron transfer from PUC2@rGO (donor) to the metal ions (acceptor) resulted in the observed quenching effect induced by Pb2+ and Cu2+ ions. Time-resolved fluorescence studies of PUC2@rGO before and after adding Pb2+ and Cu2+ ions confirmed dynamic quenching, further affirming strong interactions between PUC2@rGO and the targeted metal ions. These findings highlight PUC2@rGO's potential for efficiently detecting heavy metal pollutants in water.

Abstract
Fluoride ion is a strong Lewis base and one of the essential trace elements in human body. It plays a very important role in human health and ecological balance. The deficiency or excessive intake of fluoride ions will cause serious health problems, so the development of a sensitive and accurate detection method for fluoride ions is very important. The colorimetric and/or fluorescence sensing method has been a long standing attractive technique with high sensitivity and fast response. To date, most reported probes for fluoride ion are applicable only in organic solvents or organic-containing aqueous solutions. However, the probes for fluoride ion used in aqueous solution are more practically needed in view of environment protection and human health. In this paper, the materials and designing ideas of the colorimetric and/or fluorescent probes for fluoride ion based on different detection mechanisms in recent years were reviewed. Two main categories including formation of hydrogen bonds and formation of coordination covalent bonds were discussed. The latter one is further subdivided into three types, formation of B-F bond, formation of Si-F bond and formation of Mn+-F bond.

Abstract
The tetratopic linker, 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(p-benzoic acid)pyrene (H4 TBAPy) along with rare-earth (RE) ions is used for the synthesis of 9 isostructures of a metal-organic framework (MOF) with shp topology, named RE-CU-10 (RE = Y(III), Gd(III), Tb(III), Dy(III), Ho(III), Er(III), Tm(III), Yb(III), and Lu(III)). The synthesis of each RE-CU-10 analogue requires different reaction conditions to achieve phase pure products. Single crystal X-ray diffraction indicates the presence of a RE9 -cluster in Y- to Tm-CU-10, while a RE11 -cluster is observed for Yb- and Lu-CU-10. The photooxidation performance of RE-CU-10 analogues is evaluated, observing competition between linker-to-metal energy transfer versus the generation of singlet oxygen. The singlet oxygen produced is used to detoxify a mustard gas simulant 2-chloroethylethyl sulfide, with half-lives ranging from 4.0 to 5.8 min, some of the fastest reported to date using UV-irradiation and < 1 mol% catalyst, in methanol under O2 saturation.

Abstract
Here, a smartphone-assisted dual-color ratiometric fluorescence smart gel label-based visual sensing platform was constructed for real-time evaluation of the freshness of agro-food based on the biogenic amines responses. Green-emission fluorescence carbon dots (CDs) coupled with blue-emission fluorescence bimetallic metal-organic framework (Fe/Zr-MOF) obtained dual-color CDs@Fe/Zr-MOF fluorescence nanoprobe acts as the response units. With the increase of SP and HIS content, the green fluorescence of CDs was enhanced, while the blue fluorescence of Fe/Zr-MOF was quenched. Therefore, this dual-color probe achieved a clear fluorescence color response to biogenic amines. The nanoprobe possessed sensitive and color-responsive with the LODs of 0.17 μM for SP and 2.95 μM for HIS in a wide range of 0-937.5 µM, respectively. Besides, these fluorescent nanoprobes were immobilized on the hydrogel carrier, and the intelligent fluorescent hydrogel tag can be obtained after freeze-drying, which realizes the real-time qualitative monitoring of SP and HIS in pork and shrimp samples.

Abstract
The establishment of simple and sensitive detection methods for fluoride ion (F-) is of great importance for its effective prevention and control, and metal-organic framework (MOF) has attracted much attention for sensing applications due to its high surface areas and tunable structures. Herein, we successfully synthesized a fluorescent probe for ratiometric sensing of F- by encapsulating sensitized Tb3+ in a MOF-on-MOF material (UIO66/MOF801, with the formula of C48H28O32Zr6 and C24H2O32Zr6, respectively). We found that Tb3+@UIO66/MOF801 can be used as a built-in fluorescent probe for fluorescence-enhanced sensing of F-. Interestingly, the two fluorescence emission peaks of Tb3+@UIO66/MOF801 at 375 nm and 544 nm exhibit different fluorescence responses to F- under excitation at 300 nm. The 544 nm peak is sensitive to F-, while the 375 nm peak is insensitive to it. Photophysical analysis indicated that the photosensitive substance was formed, which promotes the absorption of 300 nm excitation light by the system. Self-calibrating fluorescent detection of F- was achieved due to the unequal energy transfer toward the two different emission centers. The detection limit of Tb3+@UIO66/MOF801 for F- was 4.029 μM, which is far lower than the WHO guideline for drinking water. Moreover, the ratiometric fluorescence strategy showed a high concentration tolerance of interference, because of its inner-reference effect. This work highlights the high potential of lanthanide ion encapsulated MOF-on-MOF as environmental sensors, and offers a scalable way for construction of the ratiometric fluorescence sensing systems.

Abstract
Two supramolecular Co-MOF isomers, namely, {[Co(L)0.5(m-bimb)]·3H2O}n (LCU-115) and {[Co(L)0.5(p-bimb)]·3H2O}n (LCU-116), were synthesized from an amide-containing carboxylic acid N,N″-(3,5-dicarboxylphenyl)benzene-1,4-dicarboxamide (H4L) and two flexible positional isostructural N-containing ligands m-bimb and p-bimb (m-bimb = 1,3-bis((1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene; p-bimb = 1,4-bis((1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene). The carboxylate ligands connect Co(II) centers to form 2D metal-carboxylate sheets, which are extended further by m-bimb and p-bimb to form a 2D bilayer with parallel stacking (LCU-115) and a 3D framework (LCU-116), respectively. Luminescence measurements indicated that these two complexes exhibited interesting multiresponsive sensing activities toward pH, biomarker N-acetylneuraminic acid, and trivalent cations Ga3+/In3+. They show highly sensitive turn-on fluorescence responses in the acidic range and can also be regarded as on-off-on vapoluminescent sensors to typical acidic and basic gases HCl and Et3N. It is worth noting that these complexes have excellent turn-on ratiometric fluorescence sensing ability for N-acetylneuraminic acid (NANA) with detection limits as low as 7.39 and 8.06 μM, respectively. Furthermore, they were successfully applied for the detection of NANA in simulated urine and serum samples with satisfactory results. For ion detection, LCU-116 could detect both Ga3+ and In3+, while LCU-115 could distinguish Ga3+ from In3+ with the latter showing luminescence quenching. The sensing mechanism was investigated in detail by XRD, UV-vis, EDS, XPS, SEM, and TEM. The results of interday and intraday precision studies gave low RSD values in the range of 1.19-3.53%, ascertaining the reproducibility of these sensors. The recoveries for the sensing analytes in simulated urine/serum or real water are satisfactory from 96.7 to 103.3% (toward NANA) and 96.6 to 115.0% (toward Ga3+ and In3+), indicating that these two complexes also possess acceptable reliability for monitoring in real samples. The results indicated that the supramolecular isomers LCU-115 and LCU-116 are promising material candidates for application in biological and environmental monitoring.

Abstract
It has been a long-standing challenge to develop organic molecular capsules for selective anion binding in water. Here, selective recognition of aqueous fluoride was achieved through triple protonation of a hemicryptophane (L), which is composed of a fluorescent cyclotriveratrylene (CTV) cap and tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (tren) as the anion binding site. Fluoride encapsulation by [3H-L]3+ was evidenced by 1H NMR, 19F NMR, LC-MS, and X-ray crystallography. In addition, [3H-L]3+ exhibited a 'turn-on' fluorescence signal (λ em = 324 nm) upon fluoride addition. An apparent association constant K A = (7.5 ± 0.4) × 104 M-1 and a detection limit of 570 nM fluoride were extracted from the fluorescence titration experiments in citrate buffer at pH 4.1. To the best of our knowledge, [3H-L]3+ is the first example of a metal-free molecular capsule that reports on fluoride binding in purely aqueous solutions with a fluorescence response. Finally, the protonated capsule was supported on silica gel, which enabled adsorptive removal of stoichiometric fluoride from water and highlights real-world applications of this organic host-guest chemistry.

Abstract
This review gives an authoritative, critical, and accessible overview of an emergent class of fluorescent materials termed "LG@MOF", engineered from the nanoscale confinement of luminescent guests (LG) in a metal-organic framework (MOF) host, realizing a myriad of unconventional materials with fascinating photophysical and photochemical properties. We begin by summarizing the synthetic methodologies and design guidelines for representative LG@MOF systems, where the major types of fluorescent guest encompass organic dyes, metal ions, metal complexes, metal nanoclusters, quantum dots, and hybrid perovskites. Subsequently, we discuss the methods for characterizing the resultant guest-host structures, guest loading, photophysical properties, and review local-scale techniques recently employed to elucidate guest positions. A special emphasis is paid to the pros and cons of the various methods in the context of LG@MOF. In the following section, we provide a brief tutorial on the basic guest-host phenomena, focusing on the excited state events and nanoscale confinement effects underpinning the exceptional behavior of LG@MOF systems. The review finally culminates in the most striking applications of LG@MOF materials, particularly the "turn-on" type fluorochromic chemo- and mechano-sensors, noninvasive thermometry and optical pH sensors, electroluminescence, and innovative security devices. This review offers a comprehensive coverage of general interest to the multidisciplinary materials community to stimulate frontier research in the vibrant sector of light-emitting MOF composite systems.

Abstract
UiO-66-NH2@eosin Y composite was obtained by confining eosin Y (EY) into the cavities of Zr-MOF and could emit two fluorescence peaks at 453 and 543 nm at an excitation wavelength of 355 nm. This multi-responsive and multifunctional ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobe not only enable directly distinct detection of F-/Cr2O72- with ultra-high selectivity and sensitivity, but also could indirectly monitor the concentration of urea based on unique enzymatic hydrolysis reaction. The multifunctional probe was utilized for fluorescence labeling F-/Cr2O72- in sweat latent fingerprint through an environmentally friendly powder strategy and exhibited obvious luminescence visualization changes. Notably, the corresponding portable on-line test strips of probe for detection of F- and Cr2O72- were made for monitoring the levels of F- and Cr2O72-. Furthermore, the probe was applied to evaluate the degrees of F-/Cr2O72- in HepG-2 cell and urea in serum with superior results, which indicate the potential application of the as-synthesized UiO-66-NH2@EY as multifunctional probe for the detection of F-, Cr2O72- and urea in biological samples. Finally, in order to extend the device-based applications of probe, an AND-OR-coupled molecular logic gate was put on agenda.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which are a class of coordination polymers constructed by metal ions or clusters with organic ligands, have emerged as exciting inorganic-organic hybrid materials with the superiorities of inherent crystallinity, adjustable pore size, clear structure, and high degree of functionalization. The MOFs have attracted much attention to develop good luminescent functional materials due to their inherent luminescent centers of both inorganic and organic photonic units. Furthermore, the pores within MOFs can also be used to encapsulate a large number of luminescent guest species, which provides a broader luminescent property for MOF materials. MOFs possess the incomparable multifunctional advantages of inorganic and organic luminescent materials. A large number of luminescent MOFs (LMOFs) have been synthesized for applications in sensing, white-light-emitting diodes (LED), photocatalysis, biomedicine, etc. This paper reviews the encapsulation of various luminescent guests such as lanthanide ions, dyes, quantum dots, and luminescent complexes in metal-organic frameworks to construct luminous sensors with single- or double-emission centers, as well as the research progress of these sensors in chemical sensing. Finally, the challenges in these fields were outlined and the prospects for future development were put forward.

Abstract
The development of porphyrin-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has attracted significant interest in the scientific community in recent years because of their versatile applications particularly in optical and electronic fields. In this study, a highly selective and sensitive fluorescent turn-on sensor using a porphyrinic MOF, Tb-TCPP, is presented, which displays a 10-fold fluorescence enhancement in the presence of Al3+, Cr3+, and Fe3+ ions. The detection limit is in the nM region. For the Al3+ ion, it could be visually detected at concentrations as low as 5 mM within 15 min. Tb-TCPP could also be used as an indicator for acidic or alkaline solutions at pH values of >9 and <3. The studies on the detection mechanism illustrate that cation exchange proceed between Tb-TCPP and these M3+ ions, and consequently, energy transfer from TCPP to Tb3+ is suppressed and π*-π energy transfer of the porphyrin ligand is significantly enhanced.

Abstract
Thiabendazole (TBZ), has been extensively employed as a pesticide and/or a fungicide in agriculture, while its residues would threaten to public health and safety. Simple, rapid and sensitive probes for detection of TBZ in real food samples is significantly desirable. In present work, a highly selective and sensitive luminescent sensor for monitoring TBZ in oranges has been constructed based on a Tb3+-functionalized Zr-MOF (Tb3+@1). Tb3+@1 exhibited many attractive sensing properties toward TBZ, including broad linear range (0-80 μM), high selectivity, low LOD (0.271 μM) and rapid response time (less than1 min). Moreover, the probe was employed to determine TBZ in real orange samples, in which good recoveries from 98.41 to 104.48% were obtained. It only takes 35 min for the whole process of detection TBZ in real orange samples combined with QuEChERS method. Therefore, this work provided a reliable and rapid method for monitoring the TBZ in real orange samples.

Abstract
In this work, a metal-organic framework UiO-66-(COOH)2 has been synthesized and is further functionalized with Tb3+ through coordination interactions. The functionalized MOF, denoted as Tb3+@UiO-66-(COOH)2, is fully characterized and further developed as an excellent fluorescent probe to monitor Cu2+ ions in aqueous media by fluorescence quenching effect. Tb3+@UiO-66-(COOH)2 exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity, broad linear concentration range (0-200 μM), low detection limits (0.23 μM), fast response speed (within 1 min), as well as in situ naked eye observation under UV light for sensing Cu2+ ion. Furthermore, this probe was successfully employed to detect Cu2+ ion in real water with good recovery. Hence, this work developed a very excellent fluorescent sensor with high potential practical applications for detection of Cu2+ ion in environmental water samples.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have evolved as an exciting class of materials in the domain of porous materials. The unique features of these materials arise from the combined properties of metal ions/clusters and organic struts which form the building blocks of these fascinating architectures. Among other multifarious applications, MOFs have shown tremendous applications as sensory materials for a wide variety of species. The signal transduction induced mechanism in these confined nanospaces generate optical output in response to a particular analyte which can be detected by wide variety of detection techniques. Fluorometric methods of sensing is one of widely studied method over past few decades. MOF-based fluorometric detection is a key research theme developed over the past few years. In this review, we give a brief overview of the recent developments of MOFs as "turn-on" sensors for a wide range of analytes (viz. cations, anions, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), etc.).

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as a class of crystalline hybrid architectures, consist of metal ions and organic ligands and have displayed great potential in luminescent sensing applications due to their tunable structures and unique photophysical properties. Until now, many studies have been reported on the development of MOF-based luminescent sensors, which can be classified into two major categories: MOF chemosensors based on reversible host-guest interactions and MOF chemodosimeters based on the irreversible reactions between targets with a probe. In this review, we summarize the recently developed luminescent MOF-based chemodosimeters for various analytes, including H2S, HClO, biothiols, fluoride ions, redox-active biomolecules, Hg2+, and CN-. In addition, some remaining challenges and future perspectives in this area are also discussed.
