Diverse Architectures and Luminescence Properties of Group 11 Complexes Containing Pyrimidine-Based Phosphine, N-((Diphenylphosphine)methyl)pyrimidin-2-amine

Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of Silver(I) Coordination Polymers Bridged by Dimethylpyrazine: Comparison of Emissive Excited States between Silver(I) and Copper(I) Congeners

Highly luminescent silver(I) coordination polymers [Ag2X2(PPh3)2(Me2pyz)]n (X = I, Br, Cl; Me2pyz: 2,5-dimethylpyrazine) were prepared together with copper congeners [Cu2X2(PPh3)2(Me2pyz)]n (X = I, Br). All the complexes showed thermally activated delayed fluorescence from the charge-transfer states in the visible region, from blue to red. The isomorphous relationship among the complexes allowed a detailed discussion of the effect of halogenido ligands and crystal packing on their luminescence energy. The relaxation in the emissive excited states (ESs) was determined to be more remarkable in silver complexes than in copper complexes despite their isomorphous structures, and the electronic effect of halogenido ligands was comparable to the effect of relaxation in emissive ESs.

Design of luminescent complexes with different Cu4I4 cores based on pyridyl phenoxarsines

A series of luminescent Cu4I4 clusters with stair-step, cubane, and octahedral geometries supported by a novel type of cyclic As,N-ligand, pyridyl-containing 10-phenoxarsines, were synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. An unusual arrangement of As,N-bidentate and μ2-iodo ligands was found in the octahedral cluster. The structural diversity of the Cu(I) complexes is reflected in their photophysical properties: the phosphorescence spectra of the compounds display emission in a broad spectral range of 495-597 nm. The complex with the Cu4I4L2 stoichiometry bearing a stair-step Cu4I4 core demonstrates temperature-dependent dual emission. The luminescence properties of all complexes were rationalized by DFT calculations.

Novel 1,2,3-triazolyl phosphine with a pyridyl functionality: synthesis, coinage metal complexes, photophysical studies and Cu(I) catalyzed C-O coupling of phenols with aryl bromides

This manuscript describes the synthesis and coinage metal complexes of pyridine appended 1,2,3-triazolyl-phosphine [2-{(C₆H₄N)(C₂(PPh₂)N₃C₆H₅)}] (1), photophysical studies and their catalytic application. The reactions of 1 with copper salts afforded dimeric complexes [{Cu(μ₂-X)}₂{2-(C₆H₄N)(C₂(PPh₂)N₃C₆H₅)}₂] (2, X = Cl; 3, X = Br; and 4, X = I). The crystal structure indicates that the Cu⋯Cu distance in 4 (2.694 Å) is significantly shorter than that in complexes 3 (3.0387 Å) and 2 (3.104 Å), indicating strong cuprophilic interactions which is also supported by NBO calculations, signifying the involvement of 3d_z² orbitals from each Cu atom contributing to the bonding interaction. The fluorescence studies on complexes 2-4 carried out in the solid state showed broad emission bands around 560 nm on excitation at λ_ex = 420 nm. Complex 4 on treatment with two equivalents of 1,10-phenanthroline yielded a mononuclear complex 5 which showed almost complete quenching of fluorescence in the solid state, clearly indicating that the emissive properties of 4 are mainly due to the Cu⋯Cu interaction, along with (M + X)LCT. The reactions of 1 with silver salts led to the isolation of dimeric complexes [{Ag(μ₂-X)}₂{2-(C₆H₄N)(C₂(PPh₂)N₃C₆H₅)}₂] (6, X = Cl; 7, X = Br; and 8, X = I) in good yield. The reaction between 1 and [AuCl(SMe₂)] yielded [{AuCl}{2-(C₆H₄N)(C₂(PPh₂)N₃C₆H₅)}] (9). The molecular structures of 2-5 and 7-9 were confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis. The complex 4 is found to be an excellent catalyst for C-O coupling under mild conditions.

Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of Heavier Pnictogen Complexes

Recent success in the synthesis of π-conjugated heavier pnictogen (As, Sb, and Bi) compounds and their transition metal complexes has led to the current surge in interest that led to significant development in the field of photophysical and optoelectronic properties of heavier pnictogens and their transition metal complexes. The presence of heavier pnictogens (As, Sb and Bi) in the molecular skeleton promotes inter-system crossing (ISC) and reverse inter-system crossing (RISC), because of the heavy atom effect, via altering the intermolecular interactions and orbital energy levels. As a result, π-conjugated heavier pnictogen compounds such as arsines, dibenzoarsepins, arsinoquinoline, heterofluorene, benzo[b]heterole (heterole=arsole, bismole, and stibole) show unique optoelectronic properties such as narrow bandgap, low-energy absorption, and long-wavelength emission than lighter pnictogen-based compounds. This review focuses on recent advances in the synthesis and photophysical properties of heavier pnictogen compounds. The synthesis and photophysical properties of heavier pnictogens are discussed and elaborated.

The Backbone of Success of P,N-Hybrid Ligands: Some Recent Developments

Organophosphorus ligands are an invaluable family of compounds that continue to underpin important roles in disciplines such as coordination chemistry and catalysis. Their success can routinely be traced back to facile tuneability thus enabling a high degree of control over, for example, electronic and steric properties. Diphosphines, phosphorus compounds bearing two separated P^III donor atoms, are also highly valued and impart their own unique features, for example excellent chelating properties upon metal complexation. In many classical ligands of this type, the backbone connectivity has been based on all carbon spacers only but there is growing interest in embedding other donor atoms such as additional nitrogen (–NH–, –NR–) sites. This review will collate some important examples of ligands in this field, illustrate their role as ligands in coordination chemistry and highlight some of their reactivities and applications. It will be shown that incorporation of a nitrogen-based group can impart unusual reactivities and important catalytic applications.

Synthesis, structural, characterization and Hirshfeld analysis of a bisselenide and a zinc complex of a new hemilabile ferrocenylbisphosphane, [Fe{C5H4P(C6H4CH2NMe2-o)2}2]

The novel hemilabile ferrocenylbisphosphane 1,1'-bis(bis{2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]phenyl}phosphanyl)ferrocene, [Fe{C₅H₄P(C₆H₄CH₂NMe₂-o)₂}₂] (1), was synthesized by reacting bis(dichlorophosphanyl)ferrocene, [Fe{C₅H₄(PCl₂)}₂] with LiC₆H₄CH₂NMe₂-o. Treatment of 1 with gray selenium and anhydrous ZnCl₂ yielded, respectively, the bisselenide (ferrocene-1,1'-diyl)bis(bis{2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]phenyl}phosphine selenide), [Fe(C₂₃H₂₈N₂PSe)₂] (2), and the dizinc complex [μ-1,1'-bis(bis{2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]phenyl}phosphanyl)ferrocene-κ²N,P:κ²N',P']bis[dichloridozinc(II)] dichloromethane monosolvate, [FeZn₂Cl₄(C₂₃H₂₈N₂P)₂]·CH₂Cl₂ (3), and both have been structurally characterized. Both compounds crystallized with the asymmetric unit containing half a molecule and with the Fe atom on an inversion centre. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicated that the most significant contributions to the crystal packing of 2 are from H...H (76.7%), C...H/H...C (13.2%) and Se...H/H...Se (7.1%) contacts, while those for 3 are from H...H (62.3%), Cl...H/H...Cl (24.4%) and C...H/H...C (10.9%) contacts.

Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of Emissive Silver(I) Halogenido Coordination Polymers Composed of {Ag2X2} Units Bridged by Pyrazine, Methylpyrazine, and Aminopyrazine

Luminescent silver(I) coordination polymers having a {Ag₂(μ-X)₂} rhombic core (X = I, Br) were prepared using pyrazine (pyz), methylpyrazine (Mepyz), and aminopyrazine (ampyz) as bridging ligands. Photophysical measurements show that the complexes were strongly luminescent in the solid state at room temperature; further, the emissive excited state of the pyz and Mepyz complexes was a triplet charge-transfer (³CT) excited state, similar to that of their copper(I) congeners, whereas that of the ampyz complex was a intraligand (³IL) excited state. The energy of the ³CT excited state of a silver halogenido complex was revealed to be ca. 5000 cm^-1 higher than that of the corresponding copper complex.

Dinuclear Cu(I) Halides with Terphenyl Phosphines: Synthesis, Photophysical Studies, and Catalytic Applications in CuAAC Reactions

Several dinuclear terphenyl phosphine copper(I) halide complexes of composition [CuX(PR₂Ar')]₂ (X = Cl, Br, I; R = hydrocarbyl, Ar' = 2,6-diarylterphenyl radical), 1-5, have been isolated from the reaction of CuX with 1 equiv of the phosphine ligand. Most of them have been characterized by X-ray diffraction studies in the solid state, thus allowing comparative discussions of different structural parameters, namely, Cu···Cu and Cu···Aryl separations, conformations adopted by coordinated phosphines, and planarity of the Cu₂X₂ cores. Centrosymmetric complexes [CuI(PMe₂Ar^Xyl2)]₂, 1c, and [CuI(PEt₂Ar^Mes2)]₂, 3c, despite their similar structures, show very distinct photoluminescence (PL) in powder form at room temperature. The photophysical behavior of these compounds in liquid solution, solid-solid Zeonex solution and powder samples at room temperature and 77 K have been investigated and supported by DFT calculation. Identification of vibronic coupling modes, done by group theory calculations and the technique of projection operators, shows that the manifestation of these modes is conditioned by crystal packing. Complexes [CuI(PMe₂Ar^Xyl2)]₂, 1c, and [CuI(PEt₂Ar^Mes2)]₂, 3c, display remarkable activity in copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reactions involving preformed and in situ-made azides. Reactions are performed in H₂O, under aerobic conditions, with low catalyst loadings and tolerate the use of iodoalkynes as substrates.
