Abstract
Herein, a modified screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) based on a composite material, graphene oxide-gold nanoparticles (GO-AuNPs), and poly(3-aminobenzoic acid)(P3ABA) for the detection of paraquat (PQ) is introduced. The modified electrode was fabricated by drop casting of the GO-AuNPs, followed by electropolymerization of 3-aminobenzoic acid to achieve SPCE/GO-AuNPs/P3ABA. The morphology and microstructural characteristics of the modified electrodes were revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for each step of modification. The composite GO-AuNPs can provide high surface area and enhance electroconductivity of the electrode. In addition, the presence of negatively charged P3ABA notably improved PQ adsorption and electron transfer rate, which stimulate redox reaction on the modified electrode, thus improving the sensitivity of PQ analysis. The SPCE/GO-AuNPs/P3ABA offered a wide linear range of PQ determination (10-9-10-4 mol/L) and low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.45 × 10-9 mol/L or 0.116 µg/L, which is far below international safety regulations. The modified electrode showed minimum interference effect with percent recovery ranging from 96.5% to 116.1% after addition of other herbicides, pesticides, metal ions, and additives. The stability of the SPCE/GO-AuNPs/P3ABA was evaluated, and the results indicated negligible changes in the detection signal over 9 weeks. Moreover, this modified electrode was successfully implemented for PQ analysis in both natural and tapped water with high accuracy.

Abstract
An electrochemical method was developed for ultrasensitive and selective detection of dopamine in human serum using mesoporous silica thin film modified gold microelectrodes. Vertically aligned mesoporous silica thin films were deposited onto Au microelectrodes by electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA). The mesochannels have uniform pore sizes of 2.1 nm in diameter and a negatively charged wall surface. Cyclic voltammetry reveals effective charge permselectivity through the negatively charged mesoporous channels. By using differential pulse voltammetry, the mesoporous silica thin film modified Au microelectrode can be employed for the ultrasensitive detection of dopamine with a detection limit as low as 0.084 μM. In addition, thanks to the electrostatic and steric effects of the silica mesochannels, excellent anti-interference and anti-fouling properties of the electrochemical sensors are demonstrated.

Abstract
The scope of this study was to apply advances in materials science, specifically the use of organosilicate nanoparticles as a high surface area platform for passive sampling of chemicals or pre-concentration for active sensing in multiple-phase complex environmental media. We have developed a novel nanoporous organosilicate (NPO) film as an extraction phase and proof of concept for application in adsorbing hydrophobic compounds in water and sediment. We characterized the NPO film properties and provided optimization for synthesis and coatings in order to apply the technology in environmental media. NPO films in this study had a very high surface area, up to 1325 m2/g due to the high level of mesoporosity in the film. The potential application of the NPO film as a sorbent phase for sensors or passive samplers was evaluated using a model hydrophobic chemical, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), in water and sediment. Sorption of PCB to this porous high surface area nanoparticle platform was highly correlated with the bioavailable fraction of PCB measured using whole sediment chemistry, porewater chemistry determined by solid-phase microextraction fiber methods, and the Lumbriculus variegatus bioaccumulation bioassay. The surface-modified NPO films in this study were found to highly sorb chemicals with a log octanol-water partition coefficient (Kow) greater than four; however, surface modification of these particles would be required for application to other chemicals.

Abstract
Simple and sensitive determination of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in food samples is highly desirable. In this work, an electrochemical platform was established based on a silica nanochannel film (SNF)-modified electrode, facilitating fast and highly sensitive analysis of TAC in colored food samples. SNF was grown on low-cost and readily available tin indium oxide (ITO) electrode. Fe3+-phenanthroline complex-Fe(III)(phen)3 was applied as the probe, and underwent chemical reduction to form Fe2+-phenanthroline complex-Fe(II)(phen)3 in the presence of antioxidants. Utilizing an oxidative voltage of +1 V, chronoamperometry was employed to measure the current generated by the electrochemical oxidation of Fe(II)(phen)3, allowing for the assessment of antioxidants. As the negatively charged SNF displayed remarkable enrichment towards positively charged Fe(II)(phen)3, the sensitivity of detection can be significantly improved. When Trolox was employed as the standard antioxidant, the electrochemical sensor demonstrated a linear detection range from 0.01 μM to 1 μM and from 1 μM to 1000 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.9 nM. The detection performance is better that that of the conventional colorimetric method with a linear de range from 1 μM to 40 μM. Owing to the anti-interfering ability of nanochannels, direct determination of TAC in colored samples including coffee, tea, and edible oils was realized.

Abstract
Paraquat (PQ) is a widely used and harmful herbicide that must be detected in the environment. This study reports a novel composite (CoS2-GCN) prepared by assembling cobalt disulfide (CoS2) derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on graphitic carbon nitride (GCN). An electrochemical sensor (CoS2-GCN/ glassy carbon electrode (GCE)) was successfully prepared by modifying CoS2-GCN onto a GCE to sensitively detect PQ. Different concentrations of PQ were detected using square-wave voltammetry, and the CoS2-GCN/GCE electrochemical sensor showed remarkable response signals for PQ in the range of 20 - 1000 nM and 1 - 13 μM, with a detection limit of 4.13 nM (S/N = 3). The CoS2-GCN/GCE electrochemical sensor exhibited high stability, reproducibility, and immunity to interference, which were attributed to the synergistic effects of CoS2 and GCN. In addition, the CoS2-GCN/GCE electrochemical sensor showed high applicability for the analysis of fruit samples. Therefore, the proposed sensor has potential applications in PQ detection.

Abstract
Nanozymes mimic enzymes and that includes their selectivity. To achieve selectivity, significant inspiration for nanoparticle design can come from the geometric and molecular features that make enzymes selective catalysts. The two central features enzymes use are control over the arrangement of atoms in the active site and the placing of the active site down a nanoconfined substrate channel. The implementation of enzyme-inspired features has already been shown to both improve activity and selectivity of nanoparticles for a variety of catalytic and sensing applications. The tuning and control of active sites on metal nanoparticle surfaces ranges from simply changing the composition of the surface metal to sophisticated approaches such as the immobilization of single atoms on a metal substrate. Molecular frameworks provide a powerful platform for the implementation of isolated and discrete active sites while unique diffusional environments further improve selectivity. The implementation of nanoconfined substrate channels around these highly controlled active sites offers further ability to control selectivity through altering the solution environment and transport of reactants and products. Implementing these strategies together offers a unique opportunity to improve nanozyme selectivity in both sensing and catalysis.

Abstract
Background:
Saxitoxin (STX) stands as one of the most potent marine biotoxins, exhibiting
high lethality. Despite its severity, current treatments remain ineffective, and existing detection
techniques are limited due to ethical concerns and technical constraints.
Methods:
Herein, an innovative approach was constructed for STX detection, utilizing mesoporous
silica nanoparticles (MSN) as a foundation. This innovative, easy, and label-free aptamer (Apt)-
sensor was fabricated. Apts were employed as molecular identification probes and "gated molecules,"
while rhodamine 6G was encapsulated within particles to serve as a signal probe. In a lack of
STX, Apts immobilized on an MSN surface kept a "gate" closed, preventing signal probe leakage.
Upon the presence of STX, the "gate" opened, allowing a particular binding of Apts to STX and a
subsequent release of a signal probe.
Results:
Experimental results demonstrated a positive correlation between fluorescence intensity and
concentrations of STX within a range of 1 to 80 nM, with an exceptional limit of detection of 0.12
nM. Furthermore, the selectivity and stability of a biosensor were rigorously evaluated, validating its
reliability.
Conclusion:
This newly developed sensing strategy exhibits remarkable performance in STX detection.
Its success holds significant promise for advancing portable STX detection equipment, thereby
addressing a pressing need for efficient and ethical detection methods in combating marine biotoxin
contamination.

Abstract
The sol-gel method is a straightforward technique that allows electrode modification with silica thin films. Furthermore, the silica pores could be functionalized to enhance the electrical conductivity and reactivity of the silica films. In this context, silica thin films were functionalized with ferrocene species. This functionalization was performed by electroassisted accumulation, generating a micro-structured composite electrode (Fc@SiO2 electrode). These modified electrodes were characterized by electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods, pointing out that ferrocene species were confined with high stability within the microporous silica thin film, demonstrating the good adsorption capacity of the silica. While the spectroelectrochemical characterization indicates that only a fraction of the confined species within the silica films were electroactive, the electrochemical results demonstrate that the Fc@SiO2 film enhances the electrochemical response of cytochrome c in a solution, which gives rise to further applications of these films for redox-controlled release and electrochemical detection of other redox-active proteins.

Abstract
Electrochemical sensors have become increasingly relevant in fields such as medicine, environmental monitoring, and industrial process control. Selectivity, specificity, sensitivity, signal reproducibility, and robustness are among the most important challenges for their development, especially when the target compound is present in low concentrations or in complex analytical matrices. In this context, electrode modification with Mesoporous Thin Films (MTFs) has aroused great interest in the past years. MTFs present high surface area, uniform pore distribution, and tunable pore size. Furthermore, they offer a wide variety of electrochemical signal modulation possibilities through molecular sieving, electrostatic or steric exclusion, and preconcentration effects which are due to mesopore confinement and surface functionalization. In order to fully exploit these advantages, it is central to develop reproducible routes for sensitive, selective, and robust MTF-modified electrodes. In addition, it is necessary to understand the complex mass and charge transport processes that take place through the film (particularly in the mesopores, pore surfaces, and interfaces) and on the electrode in order to design future intelligent and adaptive sensors. We present here an overview of MTFs applied to electrochemical sensing, in which we address their fabrication methods and the transport processes that are critical to the electrode response. We also summarize the current applications in biosensing and electroanalysis, as well as the challenges and opportunities brought by integrating MTF synthesis with electrode microfabrication, which is critical when moving from laboratory work to in situ sensing in the field of interest.

Abstract
The application of copper-based nanoparticles synthesized via green synthesis and their integration with a wearable electrode is reported for designing a flexible catalytic electrode on a glove for onsite electroanalysis of paraquat. A copper precursor and an orange extract from Citrus reticulata are used to synthesize an economical electrocatalytic material for supporting the selective and sensitive detection of paraquat. The electrode yields multidimensional fingerprints due to two redox couples in a square wave voltammogram, corresponding to the presence of paraquat. The developed lab-on-a-finger sensor provides the fast electroanalysis of paraquat within 10 s, covering a wide range from 0.50 to 1000 µM, with a low detection limit down to 0.31 µM and high selectivity. It is also possible to use this sensor at a fast scan rate as high as 6 V s-1 (< 0.5 s for a scan). This wearable glove sensor allows the user to directly touch and analyze samples, such as surfaces of vegetables and fruits, to screen the contamination. It is envisioned that these glove-embedded sensors can be applied to the on-site analysis of food contamination and environments.

Effects of surfactant head group modification on vertically oriented mesoporous silica produced by the electrochemically assisted surfactant assembly method. NANOSCALE ADVANCES 2023; 5:3316-3325. Abstract
Production of mesoporous silica films with vertically oriented pores has been a challenge since interest in such systems developed in the 1990s. Vertical orientation can be achieved by the electrochemically assisted surfactant assembly (EASA) method using cationic surfactants such as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (C16TAB). The synthesis of porous silicas using a series of surfactants with increasing head sizes is described, from octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (C18TAB) to octadecyltriethylammonium bromide (C18TEAB). These increase pore size, but the degree of hexagonal order in the vertically aligned pores reduces as the number of ethyl groups increases. Pore accessibility is also reduced with the larger head groups.

Abstract
Herein, a novel surface molecularly imprinted-based matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (SMI-MALDI-TOF MS) method for direct target paraquat (PQ) analysis in complicated samples is reported. Notably, a captured analyte-imprinted material can be directly detected via MALDI-TOF MS by using imprinted material as nanomatrix. Using this strategy, the molecular specific affinity performance of surface molecularly imprinted polymers (SMIPs) and the high-sensitivity detection capability of MALDI-TOF MS was integrated. The introduction of SMI endowed the nanomatrix with the capacity for rebinding the target analyte and ensuring specificity, prevented the interfering organic matrix, and enhanced the analyzing sensitivity. By using paraquat (PQ) as a template, dopamine as a monomer, and covalent organic frameworks with a carboxyl group (C-COFs) as a substrate, polydopamine (PDA) was decorated on C-COFs via a simple self-assembly procedure to generate an analyte-based surface molecularly imprinted polymer (C-COF@PDA-SMIP), which served the dual function of SMIP capturing the target analytes and high-efficiency ionization. Thus, a reliable MALDI-TOF MS detection PQ with high selectivity and sensitivity as well as an interference-free background was achieved. The synthesis and enrichment conditions of C-COF@PDA-SMIPs were optimized, and its structure and property were characterized. Under optimal experimental conditions, the proposed method achieved highly selective and ultrasensitive detection of PQ from 5 to 500 pg mL-1, and the limit of detection was as low as 0.8 pg mL-1, which is at least three orders of magnitude lower than that achieved without enrichment. In addition, the specificity of the proposed method was superior to that of C-COFs and nonimprinted polymers. Moreover, this method exhibited reproducibility, stability, and high salt tolerance. Lastly, the practical applicability of the method was successfully verified by analyzing complicated samples, such as grass and orange.

Abstract
An electrochemiluminescence-electrochemistry (ECL-EC) dual-mode sensing platform based on a vertically-ordered mesoporous silica films (VMSF) modified electrode was designed here for the sensitive and selective determination of cancer antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3), a specific biomarker of breast cancer. VMSF was assembled through a rapid electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method and plays a crucial role in signal amplification via a strong electrostatic interaction with the positively charged bifunctional probe Ru(bpy)32+. To construct the biorecognition interface, epoxy functional silane was linked to the surface of VMSF for further covalent immobilization of the antibody. As a benefit from the specific combination of antigen and antibody, a non-conductive immunocomplex layer was formed in the presence of CA 15-3, leading to the hinderance of the mass and electron transfer of the probes. Based on this strategy, the dual-mode determination of CA 15-3 ranging from 0.1 mU/mL to 100 mU/mL with a LOD of 9 μU/mL for ECL mode, and 10 mU/mL to 200 U/mL with a LOD of 5.4 mU/mL for EC mode, was achieved. The proposed immunosensor was successfully employed for the detection of CA 15-3 in human serum without tedious pretreatment.

Abstract
Paraquat (PQ) is a nonselective contact herbicide used in agriculture for the control of broad leaf weeds, which would cause irreversible damage to human organs even at very low concentrations. Therefore, the trace residue detection of PQ in the environment is of vital importance. Here, a novel graphene electrochemical transistor (GECT) for PQ detection is reported for the first time. The key to the device design is the application of a layer of Ag nanoparticle (Ag NP) modified monolayer graphene as the channel layer. Due to the good electrochemical activity of Ag NPs for PQ detection, the device exhibits excellent sensitivity for PQ with the detection limit of 0.068 nM and a wide linear range from 0.1 nM to 5 mM. The GECT sensor also reveals good selectivity toward several common interferents and exhibits satisfactory recoveries for PQ detection when using Chinese cabbage as a simulant to deduce the real detection situation. The GECT sensor not only provides an efficient method for the detection of PQ residues, but also provides an effective grafting platform for the construction of novel high-sensitivity electrochemical sensors.

Abstract
In this study, we developed a novel, rapid, simple, and sensitive nano sensor based on the controlled release of 4-Aminothiophenol (4-ATP) signal molecules from aptamers (Apts) modified aminated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs-NH2) for the quantitative detection of acetamiprid (ACE). Firstly, we synthesized the positively charged MSNs-NH2 by one-pot method, then loaded 4-ATP signal molecules into the pore, and finally electrostatically adsorbed the Apts onto the MSNs-NH2, which acts as a gate to control the release of signal molecules. When ACE is added to the system, ACE preferentially and specifically binds to Apts, so the gate opens and 4-ATP signal molecules are released from the pore. Meanwhile, the silver-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Ag@SiO2) were prepared by one-pot method as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate to amplify the signal. The intensity of 4-ATP signal molecules at 1433 cm-1 position was observed to has a linear relationship with the concentration of ACE by SERS detection. Under the optimized detection conditions, a linear correlation was observed in the range of 5-60 ng/mL (R2 = 0.99749), and the limit of detection (LOD) was 2.66 ng/mL. The method has high sensitivity, good selectivity and reproducibility, and can be used for actual sample analysis with the recovery rate of 96.24-103.6 %. This study provides a reference for the rapid and convenient detection of ACE in agricultural products.

Abstract
Detection of pesticide paraquat (PQ) is of considerable significance to ensure food safety, and its rapid and on-site detection is still a challenge. Aimed at the ion characteristics of PQ, an "enrichment and detection" strategy was proposed to improve the sensitivity through electrostatic attractions, and the ion characteristic of probes was adopted to increase the portability through avoiding aggregation-caused quenching effects in the paper strips. Herein, a novel anion-functionalized ionic liquid (IL) probe with a large conjugated plane and rich π-electrons ([Fluo][P66614]2) was designed as a fluorescent and colorimetric dual-channel probe to sensitively and rapidly detect trace amounts of PQ in vegetables and the environment. The proposed probe exhibited good linearity with a detection limit of 64.0 nM in the PQ concentration range of 0.3-7.0 μM (fluorometry) and 0.1 μM in that of 0.1-8.0 μM (colorimetry), respectively. In addition, it displayed a rapid fluorescence quenching response from green to dark (<5 s) and excellent anti-interference (among 23 other pesticides) due to dual effects of electrostatic attraction and π-π stacking. Most importantly, the lipophilic IL probe could be applied in real vegetables and environmental samples with a satisfying recovery rate of 98-103% and assembled into a handy paper strip that achieved the visual semiquantitative detection of PQ. This ionic probe provides a feasible approach for rapidly and conveniently detecting PQ for ensuring agricultural and food safety and opens a new avenue to detect ion-responsive analytes in real complex samples by an "enrichment and detection" strategy.

Abstract
Acetamiprid (ACE) is widely used to control aphids, brown planthoppers, and other pests in agricultural production. However, ACE is difficult to degrade in the environment, resulting in excessive residue, which causes acute and chronic toxicity to human beings and non-target organisms. Therefore, the development of a rapid, convenient, and highly sensitive method to quantify ACE is essential. In this study, aminated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs-NH2) were synthesized by one-pot method, and 6-carboxyl fluorescein modified aptamers (FAM-Apt) of ACE were adsorbed on the surface of MSNs-NH2 by electrostatic interaction. Finally, a simple and sensitive fluorescence analysis method for the rapid detection of ACE was established. In the absence of ACE, the negatively charged FAM-Apt was electrostatically bound to the positively charged MSNs-NH2, followed by centrifugation to precipitate MSNs-NH2@FAM-Apt, and no fluorescent signal was detected in the supernatant. In the presence of ACE, the specific combination of FAM-Apt with ACE was greater than its electrostatic interaction with MSNs-NH2, so that FAM-Apt was separated from MSNs-NH2, and the supernatant had strong fluorescence signal after centrifugation. For ACE detection, the linear concentration range was 50-1100 ng/mL, and the detection limit (LOD) was 30.26 ng/mL. The method exhibited high sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility, which is suitable for practical sample analysis and provides guidance for rapid detection of pesticide residues.

Abstract
Rapid and highly sensitive quantitative analysis of chlorpromazine (CPZ) in human whole blood is of great importance for human health. Herein, we utilize the screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) as the electrode substrates for growth of highly electroactive and antifouling nanocomposite materials consisting of vertically ordered mesoporous silica films (VMSF) and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ErGO) nanosheets. The preparation of such VMSF/ErGO/SPCE could be performed by using an electrochemical method in a few seconds and the operation is controllable. Inner ErGO layer converted from graphene oxide (GO) in the growth process of VMSF provides oxygen-containing groups and two-dimensional π-conjugated planar structure for stable fabrication of outer VMSF layer. Owing to the π-π enrichment and excellent electrocatalytic abilities of ErGO, electrostatic preconcentration and antifouling capacities of VMSF, and inherent disposable and miniaturized properties of SPCE, the proposed VMSF/ErGO/SPCE sensor could be applied for quantitative determination of CPZ in human whole blood with high accuracy and sensitivity, good stability, and low sample consumption.

Abstract
Metallic nanostructures have widespread applications in fields including materials science, electronics and catalysis. Mesoporous silica films synthesised by evaporation induced self-assembly and electrochemically assisted self-assembly with pores below 10 nm were used as hard templates for the electrodeposition of Au nanostructures. Electrodeposition conditions were optimised based on pore orientation and size. The growth of nanostructures was initiated at the electrode surface as confirmed by microscopy. The hard templates and Au electrodeposits were characterised electrochemically as well as with X-ray diffraction, small angle scattering and transmission electron microscopy. Finally, mesoporous silica hard templates were removed by hydrofluoric acid etching and stable Au nanoparticles on different electrode surfaces were achieved.

Abstract
The widespread occurrence of pesticides in surface water, groundwater, soil, and food has received increasing attention towards environmental safety. Paraquat (PQ) is world widely used as a rapid sterilant herbicide and is highly toxic to humans. A simple, rapid, sensitive, and on-site detection method for the water environment to detection of PQ is urgently required. Here, we prepared a zeolite imidazole skeleton-8 (ZIF-8) and para-sulfonylcalix[4]arene (pSC4) coated gold nanoparticles composite (pSC4-AuNPs@ZIF-8) by one-step method. An electrochemical biosensor assay for PQ was established based on pSC4-AuNPs@ZIF-8 modified glassy carbon electrode through host-guest recognition of PQ and pSC4. Under the optimal conditions, recoveries of targets determination results were 92.7%-103% (n = 3), respectively. The quantity PQ detection limit was found to be 0.49 pM. Therefore, the signal amplification strategy based on pSC4-AuNPs@ZIF-8 has potential value in detecting trace pollutants in the water environment.

Abstract
Herein, we demonstrate a sensitive and rapid electrochemical method for the detection of paraquat (PQ) using a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with vertically ordered mesoporous silica films (VMSF) and a nanocarbon composite. The three-dimensional graphene-carbon nanotube (3DG-CNT) nanocarbon composite has a 3D network structure, a large electroactive area and oxygen-containing groups, promoting electron transfer between PQ and the underlying electrode and providing a suitable microenvironment for the stable growth of VMSF. This VMSF/3DG-CNT nanocomposite film could be prepared on the GCE's surface by a two-step electrochemical method with good controllability and convenience. Owing to the synergistic effect of the electrocatalytic ability of 3DG-CNT and the electrostatically enriched capacity of VMSF, the proposed VMSF/3DG-CNT/GCE has superior analytical sensitivity compared with the bare GCE. Furthermore, VMSF has excellent anti-fouling ability that makes the fabricated sensor exhibit satisfactory performance for direct analysis of PQ in environmental water samples.

Abstract
Convenient, and sensitive detection of pesticides and their metabolites in environmental or food samples is critical for assessing potential environmental and health risks. Here, a three-dimensional (3D) electrochemical sensing platform is proposed based on the integration of nanochannel array on pre-activated 3D graphene (p-3DG) electrodes with no need of additional adhesive layers, which enables sensitive detection of prochloraz and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) in environmental and food samples. Through two-step electrochemical polarization, organic phase anodic oxidation, and aqueous phase cathodic reduction, p-3DG electrodes with high active area and excellent electrocatalytic performance were obtained. Vertically-ordered mesoporous silica-nanochannel film (VMSF) can be rapidly grown on the surface of p-3DG by an electrochemical-assisted self-assembly (EASA) method. Taking advantage of the high electrocatalytic activity of p-3DG and the ability of nanochannels to enrich TCP through hydrogen bonding, the VMSF/p-3DG sensor can sensitively detect TCP in the range of 10 nM to 0.1 μM and 0.1–15 μM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 2.4 nM. Compared with p-3DG and VMSF-modified 2D electrodes, the fabricated sensor has a wide detection linear range and low LOD. The coexistence of model interferents such as protein, surfactant, and humic acid did not affect the electrochemical response of TCP, confirming the high anti-fouling ability of the VMSF/p-3DG sensor. In addition, prochloraz in vegetable and fruit samples was indirectly determined because TCP was the metabolite of prochloraz.

Abstract
With the increasing application of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) to replace antibiotics in medicine, food and agriculture, it is highly desired to develop a fast, reliable, and convenient strategy for sensitive detection of AMPs. Herein, a novel electrochemical (EC) and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) dual-modality sensing platform was developed based on probe encapsulated liposomes and nanochannel array modified electrodes, which enables sensitive determination of nisin in food samples. The bifunctional probe with both EC and ECL signals, tris(2,2-bipyridyl) dichlororuthenium (II) (Ru(bpy)32+), was chosen to be easily encapsulated in liposomes (Ru(bpy)32+@liposome). Based on the unique sterilization mechanism that AMPs can disrupt cell membranes, Ru(bpy)32+@liposome can be destroyed by nisin and release a large number of Ru(bpy)32+ probes. Vertically-ordered mesoporous silica-nanochannel film (VMSF) modified ITO electrodes (VMSF/ITO) prepared by electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method were applied as the sensing electrode. Due to the efficient enrichment of Ru(bpy)32+ by the negatively charged nanochannel arrays, VMSF/ITO enables detection of the EC/ECL signals of the released Ru(bpy)32+ probes with ultrahigh sensitivity. In consequence, sensitive dual-modality detection of nisin was achieved by the combination of Ru(bpy)32+@liposome and VMSF/ITO. The developed sensing system can realize sensitive determination of nisin in ECL mode in the concentration range of 10 ng/ml to 50 μg/ml with a limit of detection (LOD) of 9.3 ng/ml, or in EC mode from 800 ng/ml to 100 μg/ml with a LOD of 70 ng/ml. Combined with the excellent anti-fouling and anti-interference performance of VMSF, rapid and sensitive detection of nisin in milk or egg white was also achieved by the sensor.

Abstract
Convenient, rapid and sensitive detection of p-nitrophenol (p-NP), one of the priority environmental pollutants, in environmental samples is of great significance. Electrochemical sensor with simple fabrication process, high sensitivity and selectivity, good antifouling, and regeneration performance is highly desirable. Herein, an electrochemical sensing platform is demonstrated based on the integration of vertically-ordered mesoporous silica-nanochannel film (VMSF) on electrochemical pre-activated glassy carbon electrode (p-GCE), which is able to realize ultrasensitive detection of p-NP in environmental samples. Electrochemical pre-activation of GCE is achieved through a simple and green electrochemical polarization process including anodic oxidation at high voltage and the following cathodic reduction at low voltage. The p-GCE possesses enhanced active area and introduced active sites, and enables stable binding of VMSF. VMSF is easily grown on p-GCE through the electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method within 10 s. Owing to the hydrogen bonding between silanol groups and p-NP, VMSF nanochannels display strong enrichment effect for the detection of p-NP. The developed VMSF/p-GCE sensor can achieve sensitive detection of p-NP ranging from 10 nM to 1 μM and from 1 to 30 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 9.4 nM. Considering the antifouling ability of VMSF, detection of p-NP in pond water is achieved.

Abstract
Carbendazim (CBZ), a kind of widely used pesticide, is harmful to human health and environmental ecology. Therefore, it is of great importance to detect CBZ in real samples. Herein we report the stable growth of vertically-ordered mesoporous silica films (VMSF) on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using boron nitride-reduced graphene oxide (BN-rGO) nanocomposite as an adhesive and electroactive layer. Oxygen-containing groups of rGO and 2D planar structure of BN-rGO hybrid favor the stable growth of VMSF via the electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method. Combining the good electrocatalytic activity of BN-rGO and the enrichment effect of VMSF, the proposed VMSF/BN-rGO/GCE can detect CBZ with high sensitivity (3.70 μA/μM), a wide linear range (5 nM–7 μM) and a low limit of detection (2 nM). Furthermore, due to the inherent anti-fouling and anti-interference capacity of VMSF, direct and rapid electrochemical analyses of CBZ in pond water and grape juice samples are also achieved without the use of complicated sample treatment processes.

Abstract
Rapid, convenient, and sensitive detection of Bisphenol A (BPA) in complex environmental samples without the need for tedious pre-treatment is crucial for assessing potential health risks. Herein, we present an electrochemical sensing platform using a simple nanochannel-modified electrode, which enables the direct and sensitive detection of BPA in complex samples. A vertically ordered mesoporous silica-nanochannel film (VMSF) with high-density nanochannels is rapidly and stably grown on the surface of a electrochemically activated glassy carbon electrode (p-GCE) by using the electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method. The high antifouling capability of the VMSF/p-GCE sensor is proven by investigating the electrochemical behavior of BPA in the presence of model coexisting interfering molecules including amylum, protein, surfactant, and humic acid. The VMSF/p-GCE sensor can sensitively detect BPA ranged from 50 to 1.0 μM and 1.0–10.0 μM, with low detection limits (15 nM). Owing to the electrocatalytic performance and high potential resolution of p-GCE, the sensor exhibits high selectivity for BPA detection in the presence of common environmental pollutants, including bisphenol S (BPS), catechol (CC), hydroquinone (HQ), and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). In combination with the good antifouling property of the VMSF, direct detection of BPA in environmental water samples and soil leaching solution (SLS) is also realized without separation pretreatment. The developed VMSF/p-GCE sensor demonstrated advantages of simple structure, high sensitivity, good antifouling performance, and great potential in direct electroanalysis of endocrine-disrupting compounds in complex samples.

Abstract
Rapid and highly sensitive determination of clozapine (CLZ), a psychotropic drug for the treatment of refractory schizophrenia, in patients is of great significance to reduce the risk of disease recurrence. However, direct electroanalysis of CLZ in human whole blood remains a great challenge owing to the remarkable fouling that occurs in a complex matrix. In this work, a miniaturized, integrated, disposable electrochemical sensing platform based on the integration of nanochannel arrays on the surface of screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) is demonstrated. The device achieves high determination sensitivity while also offering the electrode anti-fouling and anti-interference capabilities. To enhance the electrochemical performance of SPCE, simple electrochemical polarization including anodic oxidation and cathodic reduction is applied to pretreat SPCE. The electrochemically polarized SPCE (p-SPCE) exhibits an enhanced electrochemical peak signal toward CLZ compared with bare SPCE. An electrochemically assisted self-assembly method (EASA) is utilized to conveniently electrodeposit a vertically ordered mesoporous silica nanomembrane film (VMSF) on the p-SPCE, which could further enrich CLZ through electrostatic interactions. Owing to the dual signal amplification based on the p-SPCE and VMSF nanochannels, the developed VMSF/SPCE sensor enables determination of CLZ in the range from 50 nM to 20 μM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 28 nM (S/N = 3). Combined with the excellent anti-fouling and anti-interference abilities of VMSF, direct and sensitive determination of CLZ in human blood is also achieved.

Abstract
Fast, convenient, and highly sensitive detection of antibiotic is essential to avoid its overuse and the possible harm. Owing to enrichment effect and antifouling ability of ultrasmall nanochannels, the vertically ordered mesoporous silica nanochannel film (VMSF) has great potential in the development of the facile electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor for direct and sensitive analysis of antibiotics in complex samples. In this study, we demonstrated a flexible ECL sensor based on a cost-effective electrode covered with a VMSF for sensitive detection of clindamycin. Polyethylene terephthalate coated with indium tin oxide (PET-ITO) is applied as a flexible electrode to grow VMSF using the electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method. The negatively charged VMSF nanochannels exhibit significant enrichment toward the commonly used cationic ECL luminophores, tris(2,2-bipyridyl) dichlororuthenium (II) (Ru (bpy)32+). Using the enhanced ECL of Ru (bpy)32+ by clindamycin, the developed VMSF/PET-ITO sensor can sensitively detect clindamycin. The responses were linear in the concentration range of 10 nM–25 μM and in the concentration range of 25–70 μM. Owing to the nanoscale thickness of the VMSF and the high coupling stability with the electrode substrate, the developed flexible VMSF/PET-ITO sensor exhibits high signal stability during the continuous bending process. Considering high antifouling characteristic of the VMSF, direct analysis of clindamycin in a real biological sample, human serum, is realized.

Abstract
Screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) bear great potential in the detection of biomarker in clinical samples with low sample consumption. However, modification of electrode surfaces to improve the anti-interference ability and sensitivity is highly desirable for direct electroanalysis of whole blood samples. Here, a reliable and miniaturized electrochemical sensor is demonstrated based on SPCE equipped with vertically-ordered mesoporous silica-nanochannel film (VMSF). To achieve stable binding of VMSF and improve the electrocatalytic performance, electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ErGO) is applied as a conductive adhesion layer, that is in situ reduced from GO nanosheets during fast growth (less than 10 s) of amino groups modified VMSF (NH2-VMSF) using electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA). In comparison with bare SPCE, NH2-VMSF/ErGO/SPCE exhibits decreased oxidation potential of uric acid (UA) by 147 mV owing to significant electrocatalytic ability of ErGO. The dual signal amplification based on electrocatalysis of ErGO and enrichment of nanochannels leads to enhanced peak current by 3.9 times. Thus, the developed NH2-VMSF/ErGO/SPCE sensor enables sensitive detection of UA in the range from 0.5 μM to 180 μM with a low limit of detection (LOD, 129 nM, S/N = 3). Owing to good anti-fouling ability and high selectivity of the sensor, direct and rapid detection of UA in human whole blood is realized with very low sample consumption (50 μL).

Abstract
We report a new ready-to-use sensor for simultaneous determination of paraquat (PQ) and glyphosate (GLY) based on a graphite screen-printed electrode modified with a dual-molecularly imprinted polymer coated on a mesoporous silica-platinum core. Amino-mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN-NH2) were first synthesized by a simple co-condensation method using tetraethyl orthosilicate and 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. PtNPs were then decorated on the surface of MSN-NH2 by chemical reduction. Finally, the dual-MIP was successfully coated on the MSN-PtNP core. This 3D-surface-imprinting strategy enhances the conductivity and monodispersity of the MSN-PtNPs@d-MIP. Quantitative analysis was performed by differential pulse voltammetry with an oxidation current appearing at -0.95 V for PQ and +0.97 V for GLY. The dual-MIP sensor shows good linear calibration curves in the range of 0.025-500 μM for both analytes with detection limits of 3.1 nM and 4.0 nM for PQ and GLY, respectively. The dual-MIP sensor shows high selectivity and specificity, attributed to the increased affinity of the imprinted cavities formed on the polymer film for the target PQ and GLY molecules. The proposed dual-MIP sensor was successfully applied to detect PQ and GLY concentrations simultaneously in water samples. The ready-to-use dual-MIP sensor is well suited for water-quality control and on-site applications without sophisticated instrumentation.

Abstract
This work presents the first development of an all-steps-in-one test kit for the determination of paraquat in natural water, and vegetable and agricultural samples. A handheld photometer incorporated with a magnetic stirrer was used to complete the steps of extraction, mixing, and detection. Paraquat produces a blue free radical ion via a reduction with sodium dithionite in alkaline conditions. Sodium dithionite powder was investigated for the enhancement of reagent stability duration, which was added directly into sample solution that showed insignificant difference in sensitivity as compared with that of the solution format of sodium dithionite. The developed test kit showed good performance with the linear calibration of 0.5 to 10 mg L−1 with a high coefficient of determination (r2 = 0.9947). The lower limit of quantitation (LLOQ = 3SD of intercept per slope) carried out from the method using the handheld photometer was 0.50 mg L−1. The limit of detection (LOD) by naked eye was 0.30 mg L−1. The recovery study was acceptable in the range of 101–115%. Intraday (n = 3) and interday (n = 3) precision was less than 1%. On the basis of the significance test at the 95% confidence interval, quantitative results of the developed test kit agreed well with those from high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report demonstrating an online extraction for vegetables incorporated into a test kit, applicable for on-site analysis. Single-point calibration based on the Beer–Lambert law also demonstrated the measurement of paraquat. In testing with a nominal standard solution of 5.00 mg L−1 paraquat, the reading concentration was 5.09 ± 0.03 mg L−1 paraquat (n = 20) with a K value of 0.0967 (close to the slope of multipoint calibration). This research is a direct benefit to agricultural products and the health of a population for the analysis of pesticides and herbicides.

Abstract
The variation in pore size in mesoporous films produced by electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) with the surfactant chain length is described. EASA produces a hexagonal array of pores perpendicular to the substrate surface by using an applied potential to organize cationic surfactants and the resultant current to drive condensation in a silica sol. Here, we show that a range of pore sizes between 2 and 5 nm in diameter is available with surfactants of the form [Me3NCnH2n+1]Br, with alkyl chain lengths between C14 and C24. The film quality, pore order, pore size, and pore accessibility are probed with a range of techniques.

Abstract
Indium-tin oxide electrodes modified with vertically aligned silica nanochannel membranes have been produced by electrochemically assisted self-assembly of cationic surfactants (cetyl- or octadecyl-trimethylammonium bromide) and concomitant polycondensation of the silica precursors (tetraethoxysilane). They exhibited pore diameters in the 2-3 nm range depending on the surfactant used. After surfactant removal, the bottom of mesopores was derivatized with aminophenyl groups via electrografting (i.e., electrochemical reduction of in situ generated aminophenyl monodiazonium salt). These species covalently bonded to the ITO substrate were then exploited to grow polyaniline nanofilaments by electropolymerization of aniline through the nanochannels. Under potentiostatic conditions, the length of polyaniline wires is controllable by tuning the electropolymerization time. From cyclic voltammetry characterization performed either before or after dissolution of the silica template, it appeared that both the polyaniline/silica composite and the free polyaniline nanowire arrays were electroactive, yet with much larger peak currents in the latter case as a result of larger effective surface area offered to the electrolyte solution. At identical electropolymerization time, the amount of deposited polyaniline was larger when using the silica membrane with larger pore diameter. All polyaniline deposits exhibited electrochromic properties. However, the spectroelectrochemical data indicated more complete interconversion between the coloured oxidized form and colourless reduced polyaniline for the arrays of nanofilaments in comparison to bulky films. In addition, the template-free nanowire arrays (i.e., after silica dissolution) were characterized by faster electrochromic behaviour than the polyaniline/silica hybrid, confirming the potential interest of such polyaniline nano-brushes for practical applications.

Abstract
Nanoelectrochemistry, where electrochemical processes are controlled and investigated with nanoscale resolution, is gaining more and more attention because of the many potential applications in energy and sensing and the fact that there is much to learn about fundamental electrochemical processes when we explore them at the nanoscale. The development of instrumental methods that can explore the heterogeneity of electrochemistry occurring across an electrode surface, monitoring single molecules or many single nanoparticles on a surface simultaneously, have been pivotal in giving us new insights into nanoscale electrochemistry. Equally important has been the ability to synthesise or fabricate nanoscale entities with a high degree of control that allows us to develop nanoscale devices. Central to the latter has been the incredible advances in nanomaterial synthesis where electrode materials with atomic control over electrochemically active sites can be achieved. After introducing nanoelectrochemistry, this paper focuses on recent developments in two major application areas of nanoelectrochemistry; electrocatalysis and using single entities in sensing. Discussion of the developments in these two application fields highlights some of the advances in the fundamental understanding of nanoelectrochemical systems really driving these applications forward. Looking into our nanocrystal ball, this paper then highlights: the need to understand the impact of nanoconfinement on electrochemical processes, the need to measure many single entities, the need to develop more sophisticated ways of treating the potentially large data sets from measuring such many single entities, the need for more new methods for characterising nanoelectrochemical systems as they operate and the need for material synthesis to become more reproducible as well as possess more nanoscale control.

Abstract
Silica matrices hosting transition metal guest complexes may offer remarkable platforms for the development of advanced functional devices. We report here the elaboration of ordered and vertically oriented mesoporous silica thin films containing covalently attached tris(bipyridine)iron derivatives using a combination of electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method and Huisgen cycloaddition reaction. Such a versatile approach is primarily used to bind nitrogen-based chelating ligands such as (4-[(2-propyn-1-yloxy)]4'-methyl-2,2'-bypiridine, bpy') inside the nanochannels. Further derivatization of the bpy'-functionalized silica thin films is then achieved via a subsequent in-situ complexation step to generate [Fe(bpy)2 (bpy')]2+ inside the mesopore channels. After giving spectroscopic evidences for the presence of such complexes in the functionalized film, electrochemistry is used to transform the confined diamagnetic (S=0) F e L S b p y 2 b p y ' 2 + species to paramagnetic (S=1/2) oxidized F e L S b p y 2 b p y ' 3 + species in a reversible way, while blue light irradiation (λ=470 nm) enables populating the short-lived paramagnetic (S=2) F e H S b p y 2 b p y ' 2 + excited state. [Fe(bpy)2 (bpy')]2+ -functionalized ordered films are therefore both electro- and photo-active through the manipulation of the oxidation state and spin state of the confined complexes, paving the way for their integration in optoelectronic devices.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) electrochemiluminescence (ECL) platform with high sensitivity and good anti-fouling is highly desirable for direct and sensitive analysis of complex samples. Herein, a novel ECL-sensing platform is demonstrated based on the equipment of vertically ordered mesoporous silica-nanochannel films (VMSF) on monolithic and macroporous 3D graphene (3DG). Through electrografting of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) onto 3DG as molecular glue, VMSF grown by electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method fully covers 3DG surface and displays high stability. The developed VMSF/APTES/3DG sensor exhibits highly sensitized ECL response of tris(2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium (Ru (bpy)3 2+) taking advantages of the unique characteristics of 3DG (high active area and conductivity) and VMSF nanochannels (strong electrostatic enrichment). The VMSF/APTES/3DG sensor is applied to sensitively detect an important environmental pollutant (4-chlorophenol, with limit of detection or LOD of 30.3 nM) in term of its quenching effect (ECL signal-off mode) toward ECL of Ru (bpy)3 2+/tri-n-propylamine (TPrA). The VMSF/APTES/3DG sensor can also sensitively detect the most effective antihistamines chlorpheniramine (with LOD of 430 nM) using ECL signal-on mode because it acts as co-reactant to promote the ECL of Ru (bpy)3 2+. Combined with the excellent antifouling ability of VMSF, the sensor can also realize the analysis of actual environmental (lake water) and pharmaceutical (pharmacy tablet) samples. The proposed 3D ECL sensor may open new avenues to develop highly sensitive ECL-sensing platform.

Abstract
Owing to a nanochannel-based enrichment effect and anti-fouling ability, highly ordered and vertically oriented mesoporous silica thin film (VMSF) modified electrodes have demonstrated their great potential in direct and highly sensitive analysis of complex samples. In this work, a VMSF modified fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) electrode (VMSF/FTO) is fabricated for enhanced electrochemiluminescence (ECL) analysis of lidocaine in serum. VMSF with good integrity and mechanical stability can be rapidly and conveniently grown on FTO in a few seconds at room temperature using an electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method. Due to the strong electrostatic attraction between the cationic ECL probe and negatively charged nanochannel, the VMSF/FTO electrode shows significant enrichment of tris(2,2-bipyridine) ruthenium(ii) (Ru(bpy)3 2+), leading to ∼10 times enhancement of its ECL signal in comparison to the bare FTO electrode. Lidocaine, an anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug, can act as the co-reactant of Ru(bpy)3 2+ and promote its ECL signal. Sensitive ECL detection of lidocaine is achieved by the sensor in a wide linear range from 10 nM to 50 μM with a low limit-of-detection (LOD) of 8 nM. Combined with the antifouling ability of VMSF, the VMSF/FTO electrode also realizes the accurate and rapid analysis of lidocaine in real serum samples.

Abstract
We propose the fabrication of a novel ready-to-use electrochemical sensor based on a screen-printed graphene paste electrode (SPGrE) modified with platinum nanoparticles and coated with a molecularly imprinted polymer (PtNPs@MIP) for sensitive and cost-effective detection of paraquat (PQ) herbicide. Successive coating of the PtNPs surface with SiO2 and vinyl end-groups formed the PtNPs@MIP. Next, we terminated the vinyl groups with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) shell. MIP was attached to the PtNPs cores using PQ as the template, methacrylic acid (MAA) as the monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the cross-linker, and 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. Coating the SPGrE surface with PtNPs@MIP furnished the PQ sensor. We studied the electrochemical mechanism of PQ on the MIP sensor using cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments. The PQ oxidation current signal appears at -1.08 V and -0.71 V vs. Ag/AgCl using 0.1 M potassium sulfate solution. Quantitative analysis was performed by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) using a deposition potential of -1.4 V for 60 s and linear sweep voltammetric stripping. The MIP sensor provides linearity from 0.05 to 1000 μM (r2 = 0.999), with a lower detection limit of 0.02 μM (at -0.71 V). The compact imprinted sensor gave a highly sensitive and selective signal toward PQ. The ready-to-use MIP sensor can provide an alternative approach to the determination of paraquat residue on vegetables and fruits for food safety applications.

Abstract
Supramolecular soft-templating approaches to mesoporous materials have revolutionized the generation of regular nanoarchitectures exhibiting unique features such as uniform pore structure with tunable dimensions, large surface area, and high pore volume, variability of composition, and/or ease of functionalization with a wide range of organo-functional groups or good hosts for the in situ synthesis of nano-objects. One appealing concept in this field is the development of ordered mesoporous thin films as such a configuration has proven to be essential for various applications including separation, sensing, catalysis (electro and photo), energy conversion and storage, photonics, solar cells, photo- and electrochromism, and low-k dielectric coatings for microelectronics, bio and nanobio devices, or biomimetic surfaces. Supported or free-standing mesoporous films are mostly prepared by evaporation induced self-assembly methods, thanks to their good processing capability and flexibility to manufacture mesostructured oxides and organic-inorganic hybrids films with periodically organized porosity. One important challenge is the control of pore orientation, especially in one-dimensional nanostructures, which is not straightforward from the above evaporation induced self-assembly methods. Accessibility of the pores represents another critical issue, which can be basically ensured in the event of effective interconnections between the pores, but the vertical alignment of mesopore channels will definitely offer the best configuration to secure the most efficient transfer processes through the mesoporous membranes. The orthogonal growth of mesochannels is however not thermodynamically favored, requiring the development of methods enabling self-organization through nonequilibrium states. We found that electrochemistry afforded a real boon to tackle this problem via the electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method, which not only provides a fast and versatile way to generate highly ordered and hexagonally packed mesopore channels but also constitutes a real platform for the development of functionalized oriented films carrying a wide range of organo-functional groups of adjustable composition and properties. This Account introduces the EASA concept and discusses its development along with the significant progress made from its discovery, notably in view of recent advances on the functionalization of oriented mesoporous silica films, which expand their fields of application. EASA is based on the in situ combination of electrochemically triggered pH-induced polycondensation of silica precursors with electrochemical interfacial surfactant templating, leading to the very fast (a few seconds) growth of vertically aligned silica walls through self-assembly around surfactant hemimicelles transiently formed onto the underlying support. This method benefits from the possibility to deposit uniform thin films onto surfaces of different natures and complex morphologies including at the microscale. From this discovery, our research expanded to cover domains beyond the simple production of bare silica films, turning to the challenge of incorporation and exploitation of organo-functional groups or nanofilaments. So far, the great majority of methods developed for the functionalization of mesoporous silica is based on postsynthesis grafting or co-condensation approaches, which suffer from serious limitations with oriented films (pore blocking, lack of ordering). We demonstrated the uniqueness of EASA combined with click chemistry to afford a versatile and universal route to oriented mesoporous films bearing organo-functional groups of multiple composition. This opened perspectives for future developments and applications, some of which (sensing, permselective coatings, energy storage, electrocatalysis, electrochromism) are also considered in this Account.

Abstract
Highly efficient removal of organic pollutants currently is a main worldwide concern in water treatment, and highly challenging. Here, vertically oriented mesoporous coatings (MCs) with tunable surface properties and pore sizes have been developed via the single-micelle directing assembly strategy, which show good adsorption performances toward a wide range of organic pollutants. The micelle size and structure can be precisely regulated by oil molecules based on their n-octanol/water partition coefficients (Log P) in the oil-water diphase assembly system, which are critical to the pore size and pore surface property of the MCs. The affinity and steric effects of the MCs can be on-demand adjusted, as a result, the MCs show a ultrahigh adsorption capacity (263 mg g-1 ), surface occupancy ratio (≈41.92%), and adsorption rate (≈10.85 mg g-1 min-1 ) for microcystin-LR, which is among the best performances up to date. The MCs also show an excellent universality to remove organic pollutants with different properties. Moreover, overcoming the challenges proposed by particulate absorbents, the MCs are stable and can be easily regenerated and reused without secondary contamination. This work paves a new route to the synthesis of high-quality MCs for water purification.
