Abstract
Traceless solid-phase synthesis represents an ultimate sophisticated synthetic strategy on insoluble supports. Compounds synthesized on solid supports can be released without a trace of the linker that was used to tether the intermediates during the synthesis. Thus, the target products are composed only of the components (atoms, functional groups) inherent to the target core structure. A wide variety of synthetic strategies have been developed to prepare products in a traceless manner, and this review is dedicated to all aspects of traceless solid-phase organic synthesis. Importantly, the synthesis does not need to be carried out on a linker designed for traceless synthesis; most of the synthetic approaches described herein were developed using standard, commercially available linkers (originally devised for solid-phase peptide synthesis). The type of structure prepared in a traceless fashion is not restricted. The individual synthetic approaches are divided into eight sections, each devoted to a different methodology for traceless synthesis. Each section consists of a brief outline of the synthetic strategy followed by a description of individual reported syntheses.

Abstract
[Pd]-Catalysed reaction of 3-alkynylindole-2-carboxamidesviaC–H activation leads to pyrrolodiindolones; in contrast, under phase-transfer catalysis, the same precursors afford β-carbolinones.

Abstract
Pharmacologically interesting tetrahydro-beta-carbolinehydantoins have been prepared through four-step traceless synthesis by a combinatorial approach. Two-arm PEG 1 (MW approximately 4000) was used as a soluble polymer support and reacted with Fmoc-protected L-tryptophane 2 to form bis-ester 3. The resulting polymer-supported amino ester 3 was deprotected, and amino ester 4 underwent Pictet-Spengler reaction with varoius ketones to form tricyclic indoles 5. The nucleophilic piperidine in the tricyclic indole reacted with isocyanate to generate the urea intermediates and simultaneously intramolecular cyclization to release the target compounds 7 from the support in good yields.

Abstract
Parallel solution-phase chemistry has yielded a series of secondary amide analogues of the fungal natural product 3-chloro-4-hydroxyphenylacetamide. 3-Chloro-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid was coupled to a variety of primary amines using 1-ethyl-3-(3'-dimethylamino- propyl)-carbodiimide hydrochloride. The desired products were obtained in good yield and high purity following rapid silica purification. All analogues were spectroscopically characterised using NMR, UV, IR and MS data. One compound displayed moderate cytotoxicity against the human melanoma and prostate cell lines, MM96L and DU145.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A mild, efficient, one-pot protocol for the cyclization of nitro-aryl substrates using SnCl(2) has been described. The mechanistic course of the reaction suggests the involvement of a hydroxylamine intermediate leading to an intramolecular cyclization via N-N bond formation. The versatility of the methodology has been demonstrated by using two nitro-aryl substrates derived from dihydroisoquinolines and dihydro-beta-carbolines. The intramolecular cyclization led to the formation of indazoles in high yields and purities.
