Development of a DNA Interaction Test with Small Molecules Still Grafted on Solid Phase

Aminoalkylated Merrifield Resins Reticulated by Tris-(2-chloroethyl) Phosphate for Cadmium, Copper, and Iron (II) Extraction

We aimed to synthesize novel substituted polymers bearing functional groups to chelate heavy metals during depollution applications. Three polyamine functionalized Merrifield resins were prepared via ethylenediamine (EDA), diethylenetriamine (DETA), and triethylenetetramine (TETA) modifications named, respectively, MR-EDA, MR-DETA, and MR-TETA. The aminoalkylated polymers were subsequently reticulated by tris-(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) to obtain new polymeric resins called, respectively, MR-EDA-TCEP, MR-DETA-TCEP, and MR-TETA-TCEP. The obtained resins were characterized via attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), elemental analysis (EA), and thermogravimetric (TGA), thermodynamic (DTA), and differential thermogravimetric (DTG) analysis. The synthesized resins were then assayed to evaluate their efficiency to extract metallic ions such as Cd2+, Cu2+, and Fe2+from aqueous solutions.

Alkyl ammonium cation stabilized biocidal polyiodides with adaptable high density and low pressure

The effective application of biocidal species requires building the active moiety into a molecular back bone that can be delivered and decomposed on demand under conditions of low pressure and prolonged high-temperature detonation. The goal is to destroy storage facilities and their contents while utilizing the biocidal products arising from the released energy to destroy any remaining harmful airborne agents. Decomposition of carefully selected iodine-rich compounds can produce large amounts of the very active biocides, hydroiodic acid (HI) and iodine (I2). Polyiodide anions, namely, I3(-), I5(-), which are excellent sources of such biocides, can be stabilized through interactions with large, symmetric cations, such as alkyl ammonium salts. We have designed and synthesized suitable compounds of adaptable high density up to 3.33 g cm(-3) that are low-pressure polyiodides with various alkyl ammonium cations, deliverable iodine contents of which range between 58.0-90.9%.

DNA complexing lipopolythiourea

We present a neutral lipopolythiourea (DTTU) as a potential DNA-binding agent. Light scattering experiments showed that mixing a lipopolythiourea with dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC/DTTU) led to small particles with sizes ranging from 100 to 150 nm at optimum conditions. Setting a fixed DNA amount, an increasing amount of DTTU/DPPC or DPPC lipids was added. Particle size increased only with DTTU/DPPC, indicating that interaction occurred between the DTTU/DPPC particles and DNA. In the same way, only DTTU/DPPC limited the ethidium bromide accessibility to plasmid DNA. These data suggest that DTTU/DPPC liposomes associate to DNA, which was confirmed by agarose gel experiments. To prove the active part of the DTTU lipid itself in DNA compaction, pegoylated-lipid was used. Cholesterol-PEG(2000) alone was not able to condense DNA. In contrast, DTTU/PEG-cholesterol was able to retain plasmid DNA on an agarose gel. In vivo injection of DTTU/DPPC/complexes was studied. Circulation time increase for noncationic particles as compared to cationic. More obvious was the lack of nonspecific accumulation in the lung, where a gain of 3 to 40 fold was measured.

Short Synthesis of Polyoxygenated Macrocyclic Rings Using Acetal Linkages. Application to the Preparation of a New Lipidic Polyamine

A short preparation of polyoxygenated macrocycles can be carried out by combining the formation of an acetal linkage, to introduce long alkyl chains, with a ring closure metathesis. As an example, this methodology was used to synthesize a new polyamino lipid.
