Abstract
A series of C- and B-substituted nido-carborane derivatives with a pendant pyridyl group was prepared. The synthesized compounds were used as ligands in the complexation reactions with bis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(II) and palladium(II) chlorides to give six new metallacomplexes with unusual η5:κ1(N)-coordination of the metal center. The single crystal structures of 1-(NC5H4-2'-S)-1,2-C2B10H11, 1-(NC5H4-2'-CH2S)-1,2-C2B10H11, Cs [7-(NC5H4-2'-CH2S)-7,8-C2B9H11] closo- and nido-carboranes and 3-Ph3P-3-(4(7)-NC5H4-2'-S)-closo-3,1,2-NiC2B9H10 and 3-Ph3P-3-(4(7)-NC5H4-2'-CH2S)-closo-3,1,2-NiC2B9H10 metallacarboranes were determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
The polymerization of α-olefins catalyzed by zirconium metallocene catalyst was systematically studied through experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Having achieved an agreement between theory and experiment, it was found that the effect of the catalyst ligand on the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C insertion reaction was significantly greater than that on the β-H elimination reaction. Therefore, the molecular weight of polymers can be increased by improving the activity of the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C insertion. In addition, in comparison with propylene, the chain length of α-olefins can directly affect the stereotacticity of polymerization products, owing to steric hindrance between the polymer chain and monomer.

Abstract
A number of new nido-carboranyl amidines 10-R(CH2)nNHC(Et)[double bond, length as m-dash]HN-7,8-C2B9H11 (n = 2, R = OH, OMe, and NMe2; n = 3, R = OH) were synthesized by the nucleophilic addition of amino alcohols and N,N-dimethylethylenediamine to the highly activated -C[triple bond, length as m-dash]N+- triple bond of the 10-propionitrilium derivative of nido-carborane. A similar reaction of 10-EtC[triple bond, length as m-dash]N-7,8-C2B9H11 with ethylenediamine unexpectedly resulted in the cleavage of the C[triple bond, length as m-dash]N bond to form the ammonium derivative 10-H3N-7,8-C2B9H11. The complexation of the synthesized carboranyl amidines 10-MeO(CH2)2NHC(Et)[double bond, length as m-dash]HN-7,8-C2B9H11 and 10-Me2N(CH2)2NHC(Et)[double bond, length as m-dash]HN-7,8-C2B9H11 with nickel and palladium phosphine complexes [(Ph3P)2MCl2] (M = Ni, Pd) was studied. The reactions with 10-MeO(CH2)2NHC(Et)[double bond, length as m-dash]HN-7,8-C2B9H11 result in half-sandwiched metallacarborane complexes with the retention of one triphenylphosphine ligand [3-Ph3P-3-(8-MeOCH2CH2N[double bond, length as m-dash]C(Et)NH)-3,1,2-MC2B9H10], while the reactions with 10-Me2N(CH2)2NHC(Et)[double bond, length as m-dash]HN-7,8-C2B9H11 proceed with the complete loss of the phosphine ligands and lead to the formation of complexes with the η5:κ2(N,N')-coordinated carboranyl amidine ligand [3,3-(8-Me2NCH2CH2N[double bond, length as m-dash]C(Et)NH)-3,1,2-MC2B9H10]. The crystal molecular structures of the synthesized complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
An imino-phosphanamide ligand, [NHIiPr2Me2P(Ph)NH-2,6-iPr2C6H3] (LH), containing two different N-substituents was prepared by the direct reaction of the lithium salt of N-heterocyclic imine (NHI) with phenylchloro-2,6-diisopropylphenyl phosphanamine, PhP(Cl)NH-2,6-iPr2-C6H3. Reaction of LH with Y(N(SiMe3)2)3 afforded the heteroleptic complex, [{L}Y(N(SiMe3)2)2] (1), by elimination of HN(SiMe3)2. Compound 1 was characterized by multinuclear NMR and X-ray crystallography. In the complex, the Y(III) center was found to be tetracoordinate in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The ligand, imino-phosphanamidinate, [L]-, functions in a chelating manner, and its coordination to Y(III) results in a distorted 4-membered YPN2 ring. As a proof of principle of its activity, 1 was used as a precatalyst for the hydroboration of various aldehydes and ketones using HBpin as the hydrogen source. The hydroboration reaction was rapid and clean even with low catalyst loadings (0.01-0.1 mol %). In addition, a very good functional group tolerance was observed in these reactions.

Abstract
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles, as a simple and recyclable catalyst, were easily synthesized and used for the synthesis of 1,3-cyclopentadiene derivatives by a four-component reaction of terminal alkynes, sulfonyl azides, activated acetylenic compounds, and isocyanides in the presence of copper iodide in acetonitrile at room temperature. In these reactions, 1,3-cyclopentadiene derivatives were obtained in good yield and in a short reaction time. In this research, antioxidant activity was investigated for the some newly synthesized compounds such as 5a–5d using the DPPH radical trapping and reducing potential tests of ferric ion and comparing results with synthetic antioxidants (TBHQ and BHT). In this study, compounds 5a–5d show good DPPH radical trapping and excellent reducing power of ferric ion.

Abstract
Thanks to their synthetic versatility, the half-sandwich metal chlorides MCl(dppe)(η5-C5R5) [M = Fe, Ru; dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane, R = H (cyclopentadiene, Cp), CH3 (pentamethylcyclopentadiene, Cp*)] are staple starting materials in many organometallic laboratories. Here we present an overview of the synthetic methods currently available for FeCl(dppe)Cp*, FeCl(dppe)Cp, RuCl(dppe)Cp*, and RuCl(dppe)Cp, and describe in detail updated and optimised multigram syntheses of all four compounds.

Abstract
A series of Cr(III) complexes based on quinoline-cyclopentadienyl ligands with additional hemilabile side arms were prepared and used as single-site catalyst precursors for ethylene polymerization. The additional donor functions interact with the metal centers only after activation with the co-catalyst. Evidence for this comes from DFT-calculations and from the differing behavior of the complexes in ethylene polymerization. All complexes investigated show very high catalytic activity and the additional side arm minimizes chain-transfer reactions, leading to increase of molecular weights of the resulting polymers.

Abstract
A fluorenyl (Fl) tethered diamine was synthesised by nucleophilic substitution of (bromoethyl)fluorene with a diisopropylphenyl (Dipp) substituted diamine to give FlC2H4N(H)C2H4N(H)Dipp (1a) in good yield (85%). Lithiation of 1a with n-BuLi proceeded with coordination of the Li cation to the aromatic fluorenide ring (2), and with subsequent equivalents of n-BuLi, the secondary amines were then sequentially deprotonated. A fluorenyl-tethered N-heterocyclic stannylene (NHSn) was synthesised from the reaction of 1a with SnN''2 {N'' = N(SiMe3)2} as a neutral dimeric species (5), and this was deprotonated with LiN'' to give the corresponding dianionic fluorenide-tethered NHSn (6). Reactions of [{Rh(cod)(μ-Cl)}2] with the mono-deprotonated ligand 2 led to the formation of a mixed-donor amide-amine Rh(i) compound (7), whereas reactions with the anionic NHSn 6 led to a Rh-fluorenyl complex of low stability with an uncoordinated pendent NHSn arm, which X-ray crystallography showed to be dimeric in the solid state.

Abstract
The first well-defined lutetacyclopentadienes are synthesised from pentamethylcyclopentadienyl lithium (Cp*Li), 1,4-dilithio-1,3-butadienes, and LuCl3. The lutetacyclopentadiene shows excellent reactivity towards some small molecules, such as pivalaldehyde, Se, carbon dioxide, and isonitrile to efficiently construct 3-, 5-, 7-, 8-, and 9-membered rare-earth metallacycles. Both monoinsertion and double-insertion of two Lu-Csp2 bonds are observed. Specially, the reaction between lutetacyclopentadiene and isonitrile afforded [3,5,5]-fused metallacycles. The distinguished reactivity can be attributed to the highly ionic character and the cooperative reactivity of two Lu-Csp2 bonds.

Abstract
1,2-Diphenyl-4-(3-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-cyclopentadiene (DPMPCP) was synthesized via aldol condensation reaction followed by cyclization and dehydration reaction. Its structure was characterized by (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR spectra, high-resolution mass spectrometry and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence spectra of DPMPCP in solution and aggregation state were studied. It shows solvent-dependent fluorescence emission and aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) characteristic when DPMPCP aggregated in water/acetonitrile mixture or in crystals. The crystal structure analysis reveals combination effects of J-aggregation molecule stacking and restriction of intramolecular rotation by intermolecular interactions on AIEE. Additionally, the thermal stability, electrochemical property and DFT calculation of DPMPCP were investigated.

Abstract
1,2,3,4-Tetrasubstituted cyclopentadienes and indene derivatives with identical or different substituents were obtained in good to excellent isolated yields through a zirconocene- and CuCl-mediated intermolecular coupling process. This synthetic procedure involved three organic partners, including one CH2 I2 , and two different or identical alkynes. Two alkynes or one diyne undergo Cp2Zr(II)-mediated (Cp = η(5)-C5H5) pair-selective reductive coupling to afford the corresponding zirconacyclopentadiene derivatives, which react, in the presence of CuCl and 1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2(1 H)-pyrimidinone (DMPU), with CH2I2 through intermolecular followed by intramolecular coupling to afford the cyclopentadiene derivatives. An application of the prepared tetrasubstituted cyclopentadiene derivatives was demonstrated by the facile synthesis of the corresponding zirconocene complexes [((4R)Cp)2ZrCl2] and [((4R)Cp)2ZrR'2] (R' = Me, Et, or nBu). The unique 1,2,3,4-tetrasubstituted cyclopentadiene ligands and the corresponding metallocenes are expected to have further applications in organometallic chemistry and organic synthesis.
