Heterogeneous Catalysis for Tandem Mukaiyama–Michael and Hydrogenation Reactions: One-Pot vs Sequential Processes

CuCo Nanoparticle, Pd(II), and l-Proline Trifunctionalized UiO-67 Catalyst for Three-Step Sequential Asymmetric Reactions

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have become a promising support for different active sites to construct multifunctional and heterogeneous catalysts. However, the related investigation mainly focuses on introducing one or two active sites into MOFs and trifunctional catalysts have been very rarely reported. Herein, non-noble CuCo alloy nanoparticles, Pd²⁺, and l-proline, as encapsulated active species, functional organic linkers, and active metal nodes, respectively, were successfully decorated to UiO-67 to construct a chiral trifunctional catalyst by the one-step method, which was further applied to asymmetric three-step sequential oxidation of aromatic alcohols/Suzuki coupling/asymmetric aldol reactions with excellent oxidation and coupling performance (yields up to 95 and 96%, respectively), as well as good enantioselectivities (ee_anti value up to 73%) in asymmetric aldol reactions. The heterogeneous catalyst can be reused at least five times without obvious deactivation due to the strong interaction between the MOFs and the active sites. This work provides an effective strategy to construct multifunctional catalysts via the introduction and combination of three or more of active sites, including encapsulated active species, functional organic linkers, and active metal nodes, into stable MOFs.

Construction of acid-base bifunctional covalent organic frameworks via Doebner reaction for catalysing cascade reaction

We report herein a series of quinoline-4-carboxylic acid linked COFs via the multicomponent one-pot in situ Doebner reaction. The obtained acid-base bifunctional COFs are chemically stable and can highly promote one-pot cascade deacetalization-Knoevenagel condensation reaction in a heterogeneous way under solvent-free conditions.

A Sustainable Palladium-Intercalated Montmorillonite Clay Catalytic System for Imine Hydrogenation under Mild Conditions

A series of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) intercalated montmorillonite clay catalysts is reported for hydrogenation of 3-diphenyl prop-2-en-1-imine under mild reaction conditions. Pd/clay catalyst was prepared by a simple wet-impregnation method, and the physicochemical properties were characterized extensively by various techniques including N₂ adsorption, XRD, TEM, XPS and TPR etc., which showed the intercalation of active Pd NPs between the clay layers. The effect of reaction conditions such as catalyst loading, reaction time, temperature and H₂ pressure is explored, and thereby a plausible mechanism is proposed. The optimum amount of 6 wt % Pd/clay catalyst showed significant catalytic activity to yield 3-phenyl propyl aniline with 100 % conversion and selectivity under 5 bar pressure and a shorter reaction period of 3.5 h at 100 °C. The developed catalytic system unveiled excellent reusability over five cycles and hence paved the way for industrial applications.

Synthesis of fatty ketoesters by tandem epoxidation–rearrangement with heterogeneous catalysis

Fatty ketoesters are obtained from unsaturated fatty esters in a tandem two-step process with a combination of two heterogeneous catalysts, without intermediate purification and with maximum productivity of the catalysts through recycling and reuse.

Recent Advances in Catalyzed Sequential Reactions and the Potential Use of Tetrapyrrolic Macrocycles as Catalysts

Complexes of porphyrins and of other similar tetrapyrrolic macrocycles are extensively explored as catalysts for different chemical processes, and the development of solid catalysts for heterogeneous processes using molecules with the ability to act as multifunctional catalysts in one-pot reactions is increasing and can lead to the wider use of this class of molecules as catalysts. This mini review focuses on the application of this class of complexes as catalysts in a variety of sequential one-pot reactions.

Application of Heterogeneous Catalysts in the First Steps of the Oseltamivir Synthesis

The first steps of oseltamivir synthesis from quinic acid involve acetalization and ester formation. These reactions are catalyzed by either acids or bases, which may be accomplished by heterogeneous catalysts. Sulfonic solids are efficient acid catalysts for acetalization and esterification reactions. Supported tetraalkylammonium hydroxide or 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene are also efficient base catalysts for lactone alcoholysis and in this work, these catalysts have been applied in two alternative synthetic routes that lead to oseltamivir. The classical route consists of an acetalization, followed by a lactonization, and then a lactone alcoholysis. This achieves a 66% isolated yield. The alternative route consists of esterification followed by acetalization and is only efficient when an acetone acetal is used.
