Abstract
Studies have demonstrated that high-coordination-number rhenium polyhydride complexes are precursors to catalysts that transform a variety of organic molecules. While rhenium polyhydride complexes lead to active catalysts, little has been reported on the mechanisms for the transformations. High-coordination-number rhenium polyhydride complexes exhibit several dynamic processes that make characterizations of the chemical properties for individual atoms difficult, at best, for room-temperature solutions. This review describes what is known of the dynamic processes that occur at high-coordination-number rhenium polyhydride complexes and how that knowledge may lead to the design of catalytic precursors in which the chemical properties of individual atoms can be more readily identified in room-temperature solutions.

Abstract
Hydride ligands of transition metal polyhydride complexes with a high coordination number are prone to fluxionality leading to interesting structural dynamics. However, the underlying polytopal rearrangement pathways have been rarely studied. Based on quantum chemical calculations carried out in this work with density functional theory and coupled-cluster theory, two new fluxional mechanisms have been identified for the rhenium polyhydride complex ReH5(PPh3)2(pyridine) to jointly account for two consecutive coalescence events in the variable-temperature NMR spectra upon heating: lateral and basal three-arm turnstile rotation. The frequently cited pseudorotation in ReH5(PPh3)2(pyridine) (Lee et al. Inorg. Chem. 1996, 35, 695) turns out to be a three-step process including two lateral three-arm turnstile steps and one basal turnstile step in between. The new fluxional mechanisms discovered in this work may also exist in other transition metal polyhydrides.

Abstract
Transition metal catalyzed [3 + 2] annulation of imines with double bonds via directed C-H activation offers a direct access to amino cyclic motifs. However, owing to weak coordination and steric hindrance, trifluoromethylated ketimines have been an unaddressed challenge for TM-catalyzed annulations. Here, a rhenium-catalyzed [3 + 2] annulation of trifluoromethylated ketimines with isocyanates via C(sp2)-H activation has been disclosed. This approach provides an efficient platform for rapid access to a privileged library of CF3-containing iminoisoindolinones and polyamides by utilizing challenging CF3-ketimines as the annulation component. The capability of gram scale synthesis, the post-functionalization of the cyclization adduct, the derivation of complex natural molecules and the facile synthesis of polyamides highlight a diversity of synthetic potential of the current methodology.

Abstract
A method for the preparation of nitridorhenium(v) complexes of the form (SSS)Re(N)(L) (where SSS = 2-mercaptoethylsulfide and L = PPh3 and t-BuNC) has been described. These complexes react with Lewis acids allowing for the isolation of adducts. The lack of a significant steric profile on the SSS ligand combined with enhanced nucleophilicity of the nitrido group does not allow for the effective formation of frustrated Lewis pairs with these complexes and as a result these species are poor catalysts for the hydrogenation of unactivated olefins.

Abstract
A practical and sustainable synthesis of substituted quinolines was achieved through the annulation of 2-aminobenzyl alcohol with various secondary alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, or nitriles, under hydrogen-borrowing conditions. Under the catalysis of well-defined rhenium complexes bearing tridentate diphosphinoamino ligands, the reaction proceeded efficiently (31 examples were isolated with yields up to 96 %) affording a variety of quinoline derivatives.

Abstract
A cobalt-catalyzed C(sp3)–H oxygenation reaction to furnish aldehyde was herein reported. This transformation demonstrated high chemo-selectivity, and tolerated various methylarenes bearing electron-withdrawing substituents. This reaction provided rapid access to diverse aldehydes form methylarenes. Notably, TFA/TFAA was used for the first time as a mixed solvent in cobalt-catalyzed oxygenation of benzylic methylenes. A Co-catalyzed C(sp3)–H oxygenation reaction to furnish diverse aldehydes from methylarenes in TFA/TFAA is reported. This transformation demonstrated high chemo-selectivity, and tolerated with various methylarenes bearing electron-withdrawing substituents.![]()

Abstract
Abstract
The production of hydrogen from renewable resources is still a major challenge in our way to reach a foreseen hydrogen economy. Abstracting the hydrogen contained in alcohols by means of acceptorless dehydrogenation reactions has emerged as a viable method with high potential. This is particularly true when applied to bio-based alcohols such as ethanol, glycerol or sugars, whose hydrogen extrusion is covered in this contribution. A general overview of the development of aceptorless alcohol dehydrogenation reactions and its potential implementation into future biorefineries are discussed.

Abstract

Several
hydride Mn(I) and Re(I) PNP pincer complexes were applied
as catalysts for the homogeneous chemoselective hydrogenation of aldehydes.
Among these, [Mn(PNP-iPr)(CO)2(H)] was
found to be one of the most efficient base metal catalysts for this
process and represents a rare example which permits the selective
hydrogenation of aldehydes in the presence of ketones and other reducible
functionalities, such as C=C double bonds, esters, or nitriles.
The reaction proceeds at room temperature under base-free conditions
with catalyst loadings between 0.1 and 0.05 mol% and a hydrogen pressure
of 50 bar (reaching TONs of up to 2000). A mechanism which involves
an outer-sphere hydride transfer and reversible PNP ligand deprotonation/protonation
is proposed. Analogous isoelectronic and isostructural Re(I) complexes
were only poorly active.

Abstract
Direct α-alkylation of amides and the synthesis of C3-alkylated 3-hydroxyindolin-2-one/2-substituted-2-hydroxy-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one derivatives from 2-oxindole/1-teralone were reported using primary alcohols in the presence of Ru-NHC catalyst in a one pot condition under the borrowing hydrogen method. In the case of inert conditions, 2-oxindole/1-teralone exclusively forms the C3-alkylated product. Whereas, allowing this reaction mixture to occur under an air atmosphere predominantly forms C3-alkylated 3-hydroxyindolin-2-one via domino C-H alkylation and aerobic C-H hydroxylation. This Ru-NHC catalyst is easily accessible, air stable, and phosphine free. Using this method, synthesis of 2-oxindole based natural products such as Donaxaridine was accomplished.

Abstract
The first Re-catalyzed [4 + 1] annulation of azobenzenes with aldehydes was developed to furnish 2H-indazoles via isolable and characterized cyclic Re(I)-complexes. For the first time, the acetate-acceleration effect is showcased in Re-catalyzed C-H activation reactions. Remarkably, mechanistic studies revealed an irreversible aldehyde-insertion step, which is in sharp contrast to those of previous Rh- and Co-systems.

New iridium catalysts for the selective alkylation of amines by alcohols under mild conditions and for the synthesis of quinolines by acceptor-less dehydrogenative condensation. Abstract
A novel family of iridium catalysts stabilised by P,N-ligands have been introduced. The ligands are based on imidazo[1,5-b]pyridazin-7-amines and can be synthesised with a broad variety of substitution patterns. The catalysts were synthesised quantitatively from the protonated ligands and a commercially available iridium precursor. The catalysts mediate the alkylation of amines by alcohols under mild conditions (70 °C). In addition, the synthesis of quinolines from secondary or primary alcohols and amino alcohols is reported. This sustainable synthesis proceeds through the liberation of two equivalents of water and two equivalents of dihydrogen. The investigations indicate that catalysts suitable for hydrogen autotransfer or borrowing hydrogen chemistry might also be suitable for acceptor-less dehydrogenative condensation reactions.
