Abstract
Single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformations provide more avenues for phase transitions, which have piqued great interest in crystal engineering. In this work, a 3D Co(II)-based coordination polymer (CP), {Co2(OH2)8(btec)}·4H2O (1), (where (btec)4- = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate) undergoes SCSC transition upon heating at 180 °C to afford an anhydrous phase [Co2(btec)] (1'). Room-temperature water-vapour induced semi-reversible SCSC transformation of 1' involves condensation of two water molecules coordinating to the metal cluster, yielding a new framework [Co2(OH2)2(btec)] (2). These SCSC transitions were accomplished through a sequential bond breaking and new bond formation process which was accompanied by colour changes from orange (1) → violet (1') → pink (2). All materials were structurally elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and further established by various analytical techniques. According to SCXRD data, all the frameworks possess octahedral geometries around the cobalt(II) sphere. SCXRD studies further revealed that 1 is a polymeric architecture with a binodal 4-c sql topology while 1' and 2 possess (3,6)-c kgd and (4,6)-c scu 3D nets, respectively. By virtue of multitopicity exhibited by the tetracarboxylate, the coordination number of the linker around the Co(II) sphere increased from four (in 1) to eight (in 1') and then decreased to six (in 2). Most interestingly, permanent porosity could be observed for the dihydrate 2, originated from potential void space as substantiated by dinitrogen (N2) sorption isotherm. These porous frameworks were active catalysts for the aerobic epoxidation of the model substrate cyclohexene using molecular oxygen (O2) as the final oxidant in the presence of the sacrificial i-butyraldehyde (IBA) reductant. For using the dihydrous phase 2, cyclohexene and various other olefins were catalytically oxidised to their corresponding epoxides with up to 38.5% conversion and 99.0% selectivity. The catalyst 2 can be expediently recycled in four runs without significant loss of activity. This research demonstrates that a little innovation in the active-site-engineered organic-inorganic hybrid materials can significantly enhance the catalytic performance and selectivity of coordination polymer-derived heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract
Two 1D coordination polymers (CPs) with general formula [M(L)(H2O)(AcO)]n, (M = Co (1) or Cd (2), AcO = acetate anion and L denotes l-phenylalanine based ligand), were synthesized and fully characterized by various spectroscopies (UV-vis, FTIR, and NMR), thermal techniques, magnetic measurements (for 1), and single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction studies. They can be described as "ribbon-like" 1D polymers constructed through a zigzag arrangement. The polymeric structure is developed due to the coordination mode adopted by the amino acid ligand, classified as μ3-N1O1:O1:O2, which simultaneously links three metal centers. This moiety also plays an important role as a magnetic coupler between metal centers in the cobalt system, which shows a weak antiferromagnetic interaction. Both CPs have also been used in the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexene with molecular oxygen (O2) as an oxidant. Under mild conditions, both compounds demonstrated remarkable catalytic activity, with the cobalt system being more efficient than the cadmium analogue (conversion: 73 and 58% and selectivity for the major product, 2-cyclohexanone: 63 and 55%, for 1 and 2, respectively). Leaching experiments and the results obtained using a radical quencher are consistent with a radical-mediated mechanism for the Co compound. The presence of the superoxide radical was also confirmed using EPR spectroscopy and DMPO as a spin trap, which was further validated by DFT calculations. The activity observed for the Cd analogue is attributed to the organic scaffold assisted by the templating effect of the metal ion.

Abstract
A new two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer (CP) [La(C18H14N3O6)2(H2O)(OH)]n has been prepared from a 1,2,3-triazole linker and lanthanum nitrate hexahydrate in DMF. The La-CP was characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, highlighting the binding motif at La ions and the fact that the material contains channels with entrapped solvent. The CP showed good catalytic activity for the oxidation of a wide variety of olefins (linear, cyclic, aromatic, and functionalized alkenes) to aldehydes. Mechanistic studies show that the oxidation reaction proceeds via a non-free-radical mechanism. The catalyst could be recovered and reused five times without major changes in activity for the oxidation of styrene to benzaldehyde.

Abstract
A chromium-containing metal-organic framework (MOF), MIL-101 (Chromium(III) benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate), was used to catalyze the one pot, three component synthesis of some 2,4,5-trisubstituted imidazoles under solvent-free conditions. The advantages of using this heterogeneous catalyst include short reaction time, high yields, easy and quick isolation of catalyst and products, low amount of catalyst needed, and that the addition of solvent, salt, and additives are not needed. This catalyst is highly efficient and can be recovered at least 5 times with a slight loss of efficiency. The structure of the metal-organic frameworks (MOF) was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (HNMR) were performed to confirm some of the synthesized products. Experimental data indicated that the optimum amount of catalyst was 5 mg for benzil (1 mmol), 4-chlorobenzaldehyde (1 mmol), and ammonium acetate (2.5 mmol), and the synthetic route to the various imidazoles is performed in 10 min by 95% yield, an acceptable result rivalling those of other catalysts.

Abstract
Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous crystalline solids whose frameworks are constituted by metal ions/nodes with rigid organic linkers leading to the formation of materials having high surface area and pore volume. One of the unique features of MOFs is the presence of coordinatively unsaturated metal sites in their crystalline lattice that can act as Lewis acid sites promoting organic transformations, including aerobic oxidation reactions of various substrates such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, and sulfides. This review article summarizes the existing Co-based MOFs for oxidation reactions organized according to the nature of substrates like hydrocarbon, alcohol, olefin, and water. Both aerobic conditions and peroxide oxidants are discussed. Emphasis is placed on comparing the advantages of using MOFs as solid catalysts with respect to homogeneous salts in terms of product selectivity and long-term stability. The final section provides our view on future developments in this field.

Abstract
The aerobic oxidation of cyclohexene was done using the heterometallic metal organic frameworks (MOFs) {[La2Cu3(μ-H2O)(ODA)6(H2O)3]⋅3H2O}n (LaCuODA)) (1) and {[La2Co3(ODA)6(H2O)6]∙12H2O}n (LaCoODA) (2) as catalysts, in solvent free conditions (ODA, oxydiacetic acid). After 24 h of reaction, the catalytic system showed that LaCoODA had a better catalytic performance than that of LaCuODA (conversion 85% and 67%). The structures of both catalysts were very similar, showing channels running along the c axis. The physicochemical properties of both MOFs were determined to understand the catalytic performance. The Langmuir surface area of LaCoODA was shown to be greater than that of LaCuODA, while the acid strength and acid sites were greater for LaCuODA. On the other hand, the redox potential of the active sites was related to CoII/CoIII in LaCoODA and CuII/CuI in LaCuODA. Therefore, it is concluded that the Langmuir surface area and the redox potentials were more important than the acid strength and acid sites of the studied MOFs, in terms of the referred catalytic performance. Finally, the reaction conditions were also shown to play an important role in the catalytic performance of the studied systems. Especially, the type of oxidant and the way to supply it to the reaction medium influenced the catalytic results.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of distinctive porous crystalline materials constructed by metal ions/clusters and organic linkers. Owing to their structural diversity, functional adjustability, and high surface area, different types of MOF-based single metal sites are well exploited, including coordinately unsaturated metal sites from metal nodes and metallolinkers, as well as active metal species immobilized to MOFs. Furthermore, controllable thermal transformation of MOFs can upgrade them to nanomaterials functionalized with active single-atom catalysts (SACs). These unique features of MOFs and their derivatives enable them to serve as a highly versatile platform for catalysis, which has actually been becoming a rapidly developing interdisciplinary research area. In this review, we overview the recent developments of catalysis at single metal sites in MOF-based materials with emphasis on their structures and applications for thermocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and photocatalysis. We also compare the results and summarize the major insights gained from the works in this review, providing the challenges and prospects in this emerging field.

Oxidation reactions are a key technology to transform hydrocarbons from petroleum feedstock into chemicals of a higher oxidation state, allowing further chemical transformations. These bulk-scale oxidation processes usually employ molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant as at this scale it is typically the only economically viable oxidant. The produced commodity chemicals possess limited functionality and usually show a high degree of symmetry thereby avoiding selectivity issues. In sharp contrast, in the production of fine chemicals preference is still given to classical oxidants. Considering the strive for greener production processes, the use of O2 , the most abundant and greenest oxidant, is a logical choice. Given the rich functionality and complexity of fine chemicals, achieving regio/chemoselectivity is a major challenge. This review presents an overview of the most important catalytic systems recently described for aerobic oxidation, and the current insight in their reaction mechanism.

Abstract
Heterometallic 3d-4f inorganic polymers were prepared using 3,5 pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H2PDC), {[CuLn2(PDC)2(SO4)2(H2O)6]·H2O}n (Ln: SmIII, CuSmPDC, EuIII, CuEuPDC, GdIII, and CuGdPDC). These catalysts are active in the aerobic oxidation of cycloalkenes under solvent-free conditions, with a conversion for the oxidation of cyclohexene of 71% after one hour of the reaction, and a TOF value of 1438 h-1 for CuSmPDC. On the other hand, the oxidation of cycloheptene and cyclooctene exhibited slightly lower conversions of 52% and 47%, and TOF values of 1053 and 159 h-1 after 1 and 6 hours of the reaction, respectively. The radical mechanism for the oxidation reaction of cyclohexene was assessed by Raman and EPR spectroscopy. The first evidenced the formation of Cu-O2 adducts and the second permitted is to observe the presence of the oxygen centered radical species, which act as initiators of the reaction chain to generate the products. An increase in the temperature of the reaction correlates with the adduct formation, and with the enhancement of the oxidation reaction.

Abstract
We report herein a new cobalt(II/III) mixed-valence metal-organic framework formulated as [CoIICo2III(μ3-O)(bdc)3(tpt)]·guest 1, where bdc = benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate and tpt = 2,4,6-tri(4-pyridinyl)-1,3,5-triazine, which can be used as a redox-active heterogeneous catalyst for selective oxidation of cyclohexene on the allylic position without destroying the adjacent double bond. Two oxidants were chosen to demonstrate this result. For using tert-butyl hydroperoxide, the conversion rate is 63% and only allylic oxidation products ( tert-butyl-2-cyclohexenyl-1-peroxide, 86%; 2-cyclohexen-1-one, 14%) are found, whereas if using O2 as oxidant, a total conversion of 38% is achieved and also only the allylic oxidation products (cyclohexenyl hydroperoxide, 72%; 2-cyclohexen-1-one, 20%; and cyclohex-2-en-1-ol, 8%) are found. The absence of any adduct on the double bond may be due to the unique radical chain mechanism triggered by the mixed-valent [CoIICo2III(μ3-O)] centers.

Abstract
Heterogeneous single-site catalysts consist of isolated, well-defined, active sites that are spatially separated in a given solid and, ideally, structurally identical. In this review, the potential of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as platforms for the development of heterogeneous single-site catalysts is reviewed thoroughly. In the first part of this article, synthetic strategies and progress in the implementation of such sites in these two classes of materials are discussed. Because these solids are excellent playgrounds to allow a better understanding of catalytic functions, we highlight the most important recent advances in the modelling and spectroscopic characterization of single-site catalysts based on these materials. Finally, we discuss the potential of MOFs as materials in which several single-site catalytic functions can be combined within one framework along with their potential as powerful enzyme-mimicking materials. The review is wrapped up with our personal vision on future research directions.

Abstract
This Concept is aimed at describing the current state of the art in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as heterogeneous catalysts for liquid-phase oxidations, focusing on three important substrates, namely, alkenes, alkanes and alcohols. Emphases are on the nature of active sites that have been incorporated within MOFs and on future targets to be set in this area. Thus, selective alkene epoxidation with peroxides or oxygen catalyzed by constitutional metal nodes of MOFs as active sites are still to be developed. Moreover, no noble metal-free MOF has been reported to date that can act as a general catalyst for the aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary aliphatic alcohols. In contrast, in the case of alkanes, a target should be to tune the polarity of MOF internal pores to control the outcome of the autooxidation process, resulting in the selective formation of alcohol/ketone mixtures at high conversion.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with constricted pores can increase the adsorbate density of gas and facilitate effective CO2 separation from flue gas or natural gas due to their enhanced overlapping of potential fields of the pores. Herein, an MOF with constricted pores, which was formed by narrow channels and blocks of functional groups, was fabricated from the assembly of a methyl-functionalized ligand and Zn(II) centers (termed NPC-7-Zn). Structural analysis of the as-synthesized NPC-7-Zn reveals a series of zigzag pores with pore diameters of ∼0.7 nm, which could be favorable for CO2 traps. For reinforcing the framework stability, a solvothermal metal metathesis on the pristine MOF NPC-7-Zn was performed, and a new Cu(II) MOF (termed NPC-7-Cu) with an identical framework was produced. The influence of the reaction temperatures on the metal metathesis process was investigated. The results show that the constricted pores in NPC-7-Zn can induce kinetic issues that largely slow the metal metathesis process at room temperature. However, this kinetic issue can be solved by applying higher reaction temperatures. The modified MOF NPC-7-Cu exhibits significant improvements in framework stability and thus leads to a permanent porosity for this framework. The constricted pore structure enables enhanced potential fields for these pores, rendering this MOF with high adsorbate densities for CO2 and high adsorption selectivity for a CO2/N2 gas mixture. The adsorption kinetic studies reveal that CH4 has a faster diffusion rate constant than CO2, showing a surface diffusion controlled mechanism for CO2 and CH4 adsorption.
