Abstract
Ruthenium(II)-arene complexes have gained significant research interest due to their possible application in cancer therapy. In this contribution two new complexes are described, namely [{RuCl(η6-p-cymene)}2(μ-Cl)(μ-1-N,N'-naphthyl)]X (X = Cl, 1; PF6, 2), which were fully characterized by IR, NMR, and elemental microanalysis. Furthermore, the structure of 2 in the solid state was determined by a single crystal X-ray crystallographic study, confirming the composition of the crystals as 2·2MeOH. The Hirshfeld surface analysis was employed for the investigation of interactions that govern the crystal structure of 2·2MeOH. The structural data for 2 out of 2·2MeOH was used for the theoretical analysis of the cationic part [{RuCl(η6-p-cymene)}2(μ-Cl)(μ-1-N,N'-naphthyl)]+ (2a) which is common to both 1 and 2. The density functional theory, at B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) basis set for H, C, N, and Cl atoms and LanL2DZ for Ru ions, was used for the optimization of the 2a structure. The natural bond orbital and quantum theory of atoms in molecules analyses were employed to quantify the intramolecular interactions. The reproduction of experimental IR and NMR spectra proved the applicability of the chosen level of theory. The binding of 1 to bovine serum albumin was examined by spectrofluorimetry and molecular docking, with complementary results obtained. Compound 1 acted as a radical scavenger towards DPPH• and HO• radicals, along with high activity towards cancer prostate and colon cell lines.

Abstract
AbstractThe novel Schiff base ligand 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-{[(E)-(2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]amino}-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one (H-HHAQ) derived from 2-aminobenzhydrazide was synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, ES+-MS, 1H and 13C{1H}-NMR, and IR studies. The characterization of the ligand was further confirmed by single crystal analysis. The Schiff base ligand was complexed with metal ions like Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) to obtain the bis-octahedral complexes. The ligand and its metal complexes were also studied for their urease inhibitory activities. All the tested compounds show medium to moderate activities for the enzyme, whereas the copper based complex was found to be much more active against urease with an IC50= 0.3 ± 0.1 μM±SEM, which is even more potent than the standard thiourea. The IC50 of the cobalt complex was 43.4±1.2 μM±SEM, whereas that of the nickel complex was 294.2±5.0 μM±SEM. The ligand H-HHAQ and the zinc complex were inactive against the tested enzyme.

Abstract
Two new ruthenium(II) complexes of Schiff base ligands (L) derived from cinnamaldehyde and ethylenediamine formulated as [Ru(L)(bpy)2](ClO4)2, where L1 = N,N'-bis(4-nitrocinnamald-ehyde)ethylenediamine and L2 = N,N'-bis(2-nitrocinnamaldehyde)-ethylenediamine for complex 1 and 2, respectively, were isolated in pure form. The complexes were characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. The electrochemical behavior of the complexes showed the Ru(III)/Ru(II) couple at different potentials with quasi-reversible voltammograms. The interaction of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) using absorption, emission spectral studies and electrochemical techniques have been used to determine the binding constant, Kb and the linear Stern-Volmer quenching constant, KSV. The results indicate that the ruthenium(II) complexes interact with CT-DNA strongly in a groove binding mode. The interactions of bovine serum albumin (BSA) with the complexes were also investigated with the help of absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy tools. Absorption spectroscopy proved the formation of a ground state BSA-[Ru(L)(bpy)2](ClO4)2 complex. The antibacterial study showed that the Ru(II) complexes (1 and 2) have better activity than the standard antibiotics but weak activity than the ligands.

The structure of Cu(II) and Hg(II) complexes of bispyrenyl azine revisited. J Mol Model 2017; 23:124. Abstract
Azine ligands show preference for the antiperiplanar conformation, but their 2:2 ligand-metal complexes can exhibit a central N4M2 core in the most stable chair arrangement, as in the case of the model lithium complex, with the ligand displaying a synclinal conformation that is not stable in the free ligand. According to DFT calculations, complexation of Cu2+ with bis(1-pyrenyl)azine (1) affords a C2-symmetric [1·Cu2+]2 species with a planar central N4Cu2 core exhibiting a weak cuprophilic interaction. The pendant pyrenyl substituents are brought close and parallel to each other, therefore accounting for the π-stacking that is responsible for excimer fluorescence. In case of Hg2+, complexation by the same ligand affords a C2-symmetric complex with an essentially linear N-Hg-C coordination environment at every metal center and without intermetallic interaction. T-Stacking interactions between pyrenyl groups explain the overall rigidity required for enhancement of fluorescence. Graphical abstract The structures of 2:2 complexes of Hg(II) and Cu(II) with bispyrenyl azine are reported.

Abstract
AbstractA novel triply bridged dinuclear copper(I) complex: Cu2(μ-paa)(μ-dcpm)2(BF4)2·2CH2Cl2 [ paa = pyridine-2-carbaldehyde azine (C12H10N4) and dcpm = bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)methane(C25H46P2) ] has been synthesized and structurally characterized. Crystallographic studies of the complex showed that two copper(I) ions were bridged by one paa ligand and two dcpm ligands. The paa ligand adopted the Z configuration at the partially double N-N bond and the two copper ions have distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry. Because of the steric effect of dcpm, the pyridine rings of the paa ligand are obviously not on the same plane (the dihedral angle is 43.610). The interaction between neighboring ligands results in a N-N bond length (1.374(7) Å) contraction. The UV-vis spectra of the complex exhibited intense high-energy absorptions at λmax

Abstract
New hexa-coordinated ruthenium(III) complexes of the type [RuX(2)(EPh(3))(2)(L)] (E=P or As; X=Cl or Br; L=monobasic bidentate Schiff base derived from the condensation of benzhydrazide with furfuraldehyde, 2-acetylfuran and 2-acetylthiophene) have been synthesized from the equimolar amounts of [RuX(3)(EPh(3))(3)] or [RuBr(3)(PPh(3))(2)(MeOH)] and Schiff bases in benzene. The new complexes have been characterized by analytical, spectral (IR, electronic and EPR), magnetic moment, and cyclic voltammetry. An octahedral structure has been tentatively proposed. All the complexes have exhibited catalytic activity for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol, cyclohexanol and cinnamylalcohol in the presence of N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide as co-oxidant. All the new complexes were found to be active against the bacteria such as E. coli, Pseudomonas, Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus. The activity was compared with standard Streptomycin.

Abstract
N,N'-Bis(salicylidene)hydrazine (L(I)), a bis-2-hydroxybenzene-type ligand H2L, its tert-butyl derivative (L(II)), and the corresponding Zn2+ complexes of the type Zn2(LH)2L (Zn-I and Zn-II) were synthesized. The molecular structure of Zn-II was determined by X-ray crystallography at -170 degrees C. The photoreactions of the four compounds in solution were studied by time-resolved UV-vis spectroscopy using nanosecond laser pulses. A weak but strongly Stokes shifted fluorescence signal of the ligands L(I) or L(II) is suggested to be due to excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) from the phenolic hydroxy group to the nitrogen of the methine bond in analogy to the fast enol --> keto tautomerization of other 2-hydroxybenzenes. A transient with the maximum at 480 nm, bleaching at 370 nm, and a lifetime of 0.01-0.3 ms is attributed to the trans-keto tautomer, formed via internal conversion. The decay occurs via trans --> cis isomerization and proton back-transfer to the enol form. Quenching by water indicates a proton-catalyzed reaction. To account for similar fluorescence and transient properties in the cases of the Zn2+ complexes, a photoinduced tautomerism at one of the two free phenolic hydroxy groups is proposed. The rapid ESIPT followed by a relatively slow relaxation process is reversible.

Abstract
A series of dinuclear complexes of Mn(III), Fe(III), and Co(III) with two diazine Schiff bases, H2salhn and H2mesalhn, is reported. The Schiff bases are prepared by condensation reactions of hydrazine with salicylaldehyde (H2salhn) and with 2-hydroxyacetophenone (H2mesalhn) in 1:2 mol ratio. X-ray crystallographic characterization reveals triple helical structures of [Co2(salhn)3], [Co2(mesalhn)3], and [Fe2(mesalhn)3]. In each complex, three dinucleating O,N,N,O donor ligands provide three diazine (=N-N=) bridges between the metal ions and facial O3N3 coordination spheres around them. The ligands are twisted about the N-N single bond and coordinate to the two metal ions in a helical fashion to generate the triple helical structure. The dicobalt(III) complex of mesalhn2- is D3-symmetric, while the diiron(III) analogue is very close to being of this symmetry. On the other hand, the dicobalt(III) complex of salhn2- significantly deviates from the ideal D3-symmetry due to the large range covered by the twist angles of the three ligands. In the crystal lattice of these complexes, intermolecular C-H...O, C-H...N, O-H...O, C-H...Cl, and pi-pi interactions involving the complex and the solvent molecules lead to one- and two-dimensional supramolecular structures. The complexes [Fe2(mesalhn)3] and [Co2(mesalhn)3] are redox active and display two successive metal-centered reductions on the cathodic side of Ag/AgCl reference electrode. Weak antiferromagnetic spin-coupling is operative between the two metal ions in [Mn2(salhn)3] (J = -0.57(1) cm(-1)) and in [Fe2(mesalhn)3] (J = -2.82(4) cm(-1)).
