Abstract
To study the potential of Keggin-type polyoxometalate anions to act as halogen bond acceptors, we have prepared a series of 10 halogen-bonded compounds starting from phosphomolybdic and phosphotungstic acid and halogenopyridinium cations as halogen (and hydrogen) bond donors. In all the structures, the cations and the anions were interconnected by halogen bonds, more often with terminal M=O oxygen atoms than with bridging oxygen atoms as acceptors. In four structures comprising protonated iodopyridinium cations capable of forming both hydrogen and halogen bonds with the anion, the halogen bond with the anion is apparently favored, whereas hydrogen bonds preferentially involve other acceptors present in the structure. In three obtained structures derived from phosphomolybdic acid, the corresponding oxoanion has been found in its reduced state [Mo12PO40]4-, which has also led to a decrease in halogen bond lengths as compared to the fully oxidated [Mo12PO40]3-. The electrostatic potential on the three types of anions involved in the study ([Mo12PO40]3-, [Mo12PO40]4-, and [W12PO40]3-) has been calculated for optimized geometries of the anions, and it has been shown that the terminal M=O oxygen atoms are the least negative sites of the anions, indicating that they act as halogen bond acceptors primarily due to their steric availability.

Abstract
The presence of oxo-ligands is one of the main required characteristics for polyoxometalates (POMs), although some oxygen ions in a metallic environment can be replaced by other nonmetals, while maintaining the POM structure. The replacement of oxo-ligands offers a valuable approach to tune the charge distribution and connected properties like reducibility and hydrolytic stability of POMs for the development of tailored compounds. By assessing the reported catalytic and biological applications and connecting them to POM structures, the present review provides a guideline for synthetic approaches and aims to stimulate further applications where the oxo-replaced compounds are superior to their oxo-analogues. Oxo-replacement in POMs deserves more attention as a valuable tool to form chemically activated precursors for the synthesis of novel structures or to upgrade established structures with extraordinary properties for challenging applications.

Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POMs) are polyatomic anions that comprise transition metal group 5 (V, Nb, Ta) or group 6 (Mo, W) oxyanions connected together by shared oxygen atoms. POMs are fascinating because of their exclusive and remarkable characteristics. One of the most interesting features of POMs is their capability to function as an electron relay by performing stepwise multi-electron redox reactions while maintaining their structural integrity. Functionalization of POMs with amino organic compounds results in organoimido derivatives of polyoxometalates, which have aroused interest due to augmentation of their properties. Comprehensive study has shown that the synthesis methodologies to obtain desired organoimido derivatives of POMs by employing various imido-releasing reagents have progressed drastically in recent decades, particularly the innovative DCC-dehydrating technique. These organoimido functionalized POMs have been used as major building blocks to develop unique nanostructured organic-inorganic hybrid molecular materials. Many conventional organic synthesis processes such as Pd-catalyzed carbon-carbon coupling and esterification reactions have been performed with organoimido functionalized POMs where the presence of POM triggered the reaction process. Thus, investigation of the reactivity of organoimido derivatives of POMs foreshadows the intriguing future of POMs chemistry.

Abstract
Density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory have been enacted to investigate the effects of donor and acceptor on the first hyperpolarizability of Lindquist-type organo-imido polyoxometalates (POMs). These calculations employ a range-separated hybrid exchange-correlation functional (ωB97X-D), account for solvent effects using the implicit polarizable continuum model, and analyze the first hyperpolarizabilities by using the two-state approximation. They highlight the beneficial role of strong donors as well as of π-conjugated spacers (CH=CH rather than C≡C) on the first hyperpolarizabilities. Analysis based on the unit sphere representation confirms the one-dimensional push-pull π-conjugated character of the POMs substituted by donor groups and the corresponding value of the depolarization ratios close to 5. Furthermore, the use of the two-state approximation is demonstrated to be suitable for explaining the origin of the variations of the first hyperpolarizabilities as a function of the characteristics of a unique low-energy charge-transfer excited state and to attribute most of the first hyperpolarizability changes to the difference of dipole moment between the ground and that charge-transfer excited state.

Abstract
Concomitant deprotonation and metalation of hexadentate ligand platform (tbs)LH6 ((tbs)LH6 = 1,3,5-C6H9(NHC6H4-o-NHSiMe2(t)Bu)3) with divalent transition metal starting materials Fe2(Mes)4 (Mes = mesityl) or Mn3(Mes)6 in the presence of tetrahydrofuran (THF) resulted in isolation of homotrinuclear complexes ((tbs)L)Fe3(THF) and ((tbs)L)Mn3(THF), respectively. In the absence of coordinating solvent (THF), the deprotonation and metalation exclusively afforded dinuclear complexes of the type ((tbs)LH2)M2 (M = Fe or Mn). The resulting dinuclear species were utilized as synthons to prepare bimetallic trinuclear clusters. Treatment of ((tbs)LH2)Fe2 complex with divalent Mn source (Mn2(N(SiMe3)2)4) afforded the bimetallic complex ((tbs)L)Fe2Mn(THF), which established the ability of hexamine ligand (tbs)LH6 to support mixed metal clusters. The substitutional homogeneity of ((tbs)L)Fe2Mn(THF) was determined by (1)H NMR, (57)Fe Mössbauer, and X-ray fluorescence. Anomalous scattering measurements were critical for the unambiguous assignment of the trinuclear core composition. Heating a solution of ((tbs)LH2)Mn2 with a stoichiometric amount of Fe2(Mes)4 (0.5 mol equiv) affords a mixture of both ((tbs)L)Mn2Fe(THF) and ((tbs)L)Fe2Mn(THF) as a result of the thermodynamic preference for heavier metal substitution within the hexa-anilido ligand framework. These results demonstrate for the first time the assembly of mixed metal cluster synthesis in an unbiased ligand platform.

Abstract
The functionalization of polyoxometalates (POMs), especially with an amino group to yield organonitrogenous derivatives of POMs, is an efficient approach to the enrichment of their structures and the diversification of their properties for various applications. The mechanism for the formation of organonitrogenous-derivatized hexamolybdates was explored by investigating the monofunctionalization of the [Mo(6)O(19)](2-) ion with methylamine using the density functional theory (DFT) method. The calculations show that the direct imidoylization of hexamolybdate with methylamine is both kinetically and thermodynamically unfavorable. However, this imidoylization was found to take place readily in the presence of dimethylcarbodiimide (DMC), for which the free-energy barrier was calculated to be +32.5 kcal mol(-1) in acetonitrile. Moreover, various factors controlling the efficiency of the imidoylization were examined. The calculations show that [W(5)MoO(19)](2-) has a relatively lower reactivity than [Mo(6)O(19)](2-), and that the imidoylization of [W(6)O(19)](2-) is an unfavorable process. With respect to the effect of carbodiimides, it is found that the catalytic activity is directly proportional to the electron-withdrawing effects of the substituents. As to the reactivity of R-NH(2) , the computation results indicate that the free-energy barriers of the substitution reactions are linearly correlated with the basicity constants (pK(b)) of the amino groups. It is noteworthy that the introduction of the proton dramatically decreases the free-energy barrier of the imidoylization of [Mo(6)O(19)](2-) catalyzed by DMC to 24.3 kcal mol(-1) in acetonitrile.

Abstract
The novel chain compound [Cu(Phtfac)(2)(NITpPy)](n) (where NITpPy = 4-pyridyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide and Phtfac = 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenylbutane-1,3-dione) was synthesized and characterized structurally, magnetically and by EPR. The compound contains two non equivalent Cu(II) ions, Cu1 and Cu2, located at inversion centers and bridged by a NITpPy ligand coordinating Cu1 through the pyridine donor atom, and Cu2 through a N-O group, resulting in a head-to-head chain structure. The chain exhibits an unusual spin topology with two alternating pairs of magnetic coupling constants. The magnetic behavior was modeled considering a 16-membered ring with alternating exchange couplings. The best fit parameters indicate a ferromagnetic (J(1) = 29.4 cm(-1)), and antiferromagnetic (J(2) = -4.6 cm(-1)) couplings and an average g = 2.05, corresponding to a ground state with three parallel and one anti-parallel spin for each Cu(2)NITpPy(2) unit. DFT calculations allowed assigning the ferromagnetic coupling to Cu-O-NITpPy and the antiferromagnetic coupling to Cu-N(Py)-NITpPy. Single crystal EPR spectra display only one resonance for most field orientations, as a consequence of the collapse of the signals of the different spins produced by the exchange interactions. The observed g-tensor of this resonance is related to those expected for the Cu(II) and radical ions. Comparison of this compound with other Cu-NIT radicals chains bearing different substituents in the organic radicals, highlights that the beta-diketonate ligand plays an important role in determining the final architecture. Moreover, we show how a knowledge of the spin density distribution in the initial building blocks is essential to rationalize the magnetic behavior of the resulting product.

Abstract
The dipole polarizabilities, dipole moments, density of states, and second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of organoimido derivatives of hexamolybdates have been investigated by using time-dependent density functional response theory. This class of organic-inorganic hybrid compounds possesses remarkably large and eye-catching molecular second-order NLO response, especially [Mo(6)O(17)(NC(16)H(12)NO(2))(FeNC(10)H(9))](2-) (7) and [Mo(6)O(17)(NC(16)H(12)NO(2))(NC(6)H(2)(NH(2))(3))](2-) (6) with static second-order polarizability (beta(vec)) computed to be 15766.27 x 10(-30) esu and 6299.59 x 10(-30) esu, respectively. Thus, these systems have the possibility to be excellent second-order nonlinear optical materials. Analysis of the major contributions to the beta(vec) value suggests that the charge transfer (CT) from polyanion to organic segment (D-A) along the z-axis plays the key role in NLO response; the polyanion acts as a donor (D) whereas organoimido acts as an acceptor (A) in all the studied systems. The computed beta(vec) values increase by incorporation of an electron acceptor (-NO(2)) at the end of the phenyl ring of the organoimido segment. Furthermore, substitution of amino (-NH(2)) or ferrocenyl (-FeC(10)H(9)) at the outer side of polyanion and an electron acceptor (-NO(2)) at the end of the phenyl ring in organoimido segment simultaneously is more important to enhance the optical nonlinearity. Orbital analysis shows that the degree of CT between the polyanion and organoimido segments was increased when ferrocenyl donor was introduced. The present investigation provides important insight into the remarkably large NLO properties of organoimido-substituted hexamolybdates.

Abstract
Three novel mono-functionalized arylimido derivatives of hexamolybdate bearing the strongest electron-withdrawing nitro group, (Bu(4)N)(2)[Mo(6)O(18)([triple bond]NAr)] (1, 2 and 3), have been synthesized for the first time by an improved reaction of octamolybdate ion and 3-nitroaniline hydrochloride, 2-methyl-4-nitroaniline hydrochloride and 2-methyl-5-nitroaniline hydrochloride respectively with DCC (N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide) as a dehydrating agent. Complete assignments were achieved for the title compounds by elemental analysis, IR, (1)H NMR, UV/visible and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. The preliminary antitumor activity test indicated that the title compounds have some effects on the cellular growth inhibition of K562 cells.

Abstract
The reaction of a quaternary ammonium salt of the tin chloride-substituted polyoxometalate, [PSn(Cl)W11O39]4-, with a variety of n-nucleophiles including primary, secondary, and tertiary amines and a tertiary phosphine, yielded tin-centered Lewis acid-base adducts, [PSn(Cl)W11O39]4--n-nucleophile; with more nucleophilic secondary amines such as diisopropylamine, apparently some [PSnN[CH(CH3)2]2W11O39]4- was formed as a minor product. The compounds were identified by 1H, 119Sn, 15N, 31P, and 183W NMR, ESI-MS, and elemental analyses. The key connectivity of the Sn-Cl center with the amine was clarified by the observation of 3J Sn-H couplings (Sn from the polyoxometalate cluster and H from the amine moiety) in a 2D 119Sn-1H heteronuclear multiple-bond correlation NMR experiment. This new, rather simple synthetic method was also utilized for preparing amino acid-polyoxometalate hybrid compounds.

Abstract
Two novel organic-inorganic hybrid compounds based on Anderson-type polyoxoanions, [Cu2(bpy)2(mu-ox)][Al(OH)7Mo6O17] (1) and [Cu2(bpy)2(mu-ox)][Cr(OH)7Mo6O17] (2), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, and X-ray powder diffraction. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 have been established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which reveals the presence of 1D chains constructed of alternating Anderson-type polyoxoanions and oxalato-bridged dinuclear copper complexes for both compounds and extensive hydrogen bonding that plays an important role in the formation of the 3D supramolecular network structures of 1 and 2. To elucidate the electronic properties and magnetic properties of the metal ions (Cu2+ or Cu2+ and Cr3+), EPR studies and magnetic susceptibility studies have been performed, respectively. The results are consistent with the structural feature of these compounds.

Abstract
Representative members of a new family of covalently bonded charge-transfer molecular hybrids, of general formula [(eta5-C5H5)Fe(mu,eta6:eta1-p-RC6H4NN)Mo(eta2-S2CNEt2)3] +PF6- (R: H, 5+PF6-; Me, 6+PF6-; MeO, 7+PF6-) and [(eta5-C5Me5)Fe(mu,eta6:eta1-C6H5NN)Mo(eta2-S2CNEt2)3]+PF6-, 8+PF6-, have been synthesized by reaction of the corresponding mixed-sandwich organometallic hydrazines [(eta5-C5H5)Fe(eta6-p-RC6H4NHNH2)]+PF6- (R: H, 1+PF6-; Me, 2+PF6-; MeO, 3+PF6-) and [(eta5-C5Me5)Fe(eta6-C6H5NHNH2)]+PF6-, 4+PF6-, with cis-dioxomolybdenum(VI) bis(diethyldithiocarbamato) complex, [MoO2(S2CNEt2)2], in the presence of sodium diethyldithiocarbamato trihydrate, NaSC(=S)NEt2.3H2O, in refluxing methanol. These iron-molybdenum complexes consist of organometallic and inorganic fragments linked each other through a pi-conjugated aryldiazenido bridge coordinated in eta6 and eta1 modes, respectively. These complexes were fully characterized by FT-IR, UV-visible, and 1H NMR spectroscopies and, in the case of complex 7+PF6-, by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Likewise, the electrochemical and solvatochromic properties were studied by cyclic voltammetry and UV-visible spectroscopy, respectively. The electronic spectra of these hybrids show an absorption band in the 462-489 and 447-470 nm regions in CH2Cl2 and DMSO, respectively, indicating the existence of a charge-transfer transition from the inorganic donor to the organometallic acceptor fragments through the aryldiazenido spacer. A rationalization of the properties of 5+PF6--8+PF6- is provided through DFT calculations on a simplified model of 7+PF6-. Besides the heterodinuclear complexes 5+PF6--8+PF6-, the mononuclear molybdenum diazenido derivatives, [(eta1-p-RC6H4NN)Mo(eta2-S2CNEt2)3] (R: H, 9; Me, 10; MeO, 11), resulting from the decoordination of the [(eta5-C5H5)Fe]+ moiety of complexes 5+PF6--7+PF6-, were also isolated. For comparative studies, the crystalline and molecular structure of complex 10.Et2O was also determined by X-ray diffraction analysis and its electronic structure computed.

Abstract
Electronic spectrum of organoimide derivatives of hexamolybdates have first been calculated within the time-dependent density-functional theory in conjunction with Van Leeuwen-Baerends (LB94) exchange correlation potential, statistical average of orbital potentials (SAOP), and gradient-regulated connection potential (GRAC), respectively. The GRAC yields much better agreement with experiments for the excitation energies comparing with both LB94 and SAOP. The analysis of transition nature indicates that there is a significant difference between the diagonal and the orthogonal substituted derivatives. The static and dynamic third-order polarizabilities are calculated using time-dependent density-functional theory combined with the sum-over-states method. The results show that these derivatives possess remarkable large molecular third-order polarizabilities, especially for system 8 with -17882.6 x 10(-36) esu. This value is about 250 times that for the C(60) molecule. Adding the organoimide segment to the [Mo(6)O(19)](2-) can substantially increase the nu value. This variation can be traced to the different electronic transition characteristics between the derivatives of [Mo(6)O(19)](2-) and [Mo(6)O(19)](2-). For our studied systems, increasing the conjugation length and diagonal substituted are efficient ways to enhance the third-order polarizability. Thus, the organoimide derivatives of hexamolybdates may comprise a new promising class of nonlinear optical materials from the standpoint of large values, small dispersion behavior, and high transparency.

Abstract
A kinetically controlled trans bifunctionalized organoimido derivative of hexamolybdate, (n-Bu(4)N)(2){trans-[Mo(6)O(17)(NAr)(2)]} (Ar = 2,6-dimethylphenyl) 1, in which the two 2,6-dimethylphenylimido groups are bonded to hexamolybdate at the trans positions, has been successfully synthesized in ca. 60% yield under mild reaction conditions. Its trans structure has been confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. In the crystals, cluster anions of 1 self-assemble into a 3D netlike structure via two different kinds of C-H...O hydrogen bondings, in which 1D supramolecular rectangular channels containing tetrabutylammonium cations form along the a axis. Compound 1 has also been characterized by (1)H NMR, IR, and UV-vis spectroscopic studies. UV-vis-near-IR reflectance spectroscopy measurements reveal the compound's nature of semiconductivity with an optical energy gap of 2.55 eV.
