Abstract
The attributes of good solubility and the redox-neutral nature of molten salt fluxes enable them to be useful for the synthesis of novel crystalline actinide compounds. In this work, a flux growth method under an inert atmosphere is proposed to explore the valence diversity of uranium, and a series of five uranium silicate structures, [K3Cl][(UVIO2)(Si4O10)] (1), Cs3[(UVO2)(Si4O10)] (2), K2[UIV(Si2O7)] (3), K8[(UVIO2)(UVO2)2(Si8O22)] (4), and Cs6[UIV(UVO)2(Si12O32)] (5), were synthesized using different metal halide salt and feeding U/Si ratios. Crystal structure analysis reveals that the utilization of argon atmosphere that helps to avoid possible oxidation of low-valence uranium generates a variety of oxidation states of uranium including U(VI), U(V), U(IV), mixed-valence U(V) and U(VI), and mixed-valence U(IV) and U(V). Characterization of physicochemical properties of representative compounds shows that all these uranium silicate compounds have bandgaps among the range of 2.0-3.4 eV, and mixed-valence uranium silicate compounds have relatively narrower bandgaps. Density functional theory calculations on formation enthalpies, lattice energies, and bandgaps of all five compounds were also performed to provide more structural information about these uranium silicates. This work enriches the library of variable-valence uranium silicate compounds and provides a feasible way to produce novel actinide compounds with intriguing properties through the flux growth method that might show potential application in relevant fields such as storage media for nuclear waste.

Abstract
Dinuclear perchlorate complexes of uranium, neptunium, and plutonium were characterized by reactivity and DFT, with results revealing structures containing pentavalent, hexavalent, and heptavalent actinyls, and actinyl-actinyl interactions (AAIs). Electrospray ionization produced native complexes [(AnO2)2(ClO4)3]- for An:An = U:U, Np:Np, Pu:Pu, and Np:Pu, which are intuitively formulated as actinyl(V) perchlorates. However, DFT identified lower-energy structures [(AnO2)(AnO3)(ClO4)2(ClO3)]- comprising a perchlorate fragmented to ClO3, actinyl(VI) cation AnVIO22+, and neutral AnO3. For U:U and Np:Np, and Np in Np:Pu, the coordinated AnO3 is calculated as actinyl(VI) with an equatorial oxo, [Oyl═AnVI═Oyl][═Oeq], whereas for Pu:Pu, it is plutonyl(V) oxyl, [Oyl═PuV═Oyl][-Oeq•]. The implied lower stability of PuVI versus NpVI indicates weaker Pu═Oeq versus Np═Oeq bonding. Adsorption of O2 by the U:U complex suggests oxidation of UV to UVI, corroborating the assignment of perchlorate [(AnVO2)2(ClO4)3]-. DFT predicts the O2 adducts are [(AnVIO2)(O2)(AnVIO2)(ClO4)3]- with actinyls oxidized from +V to +VI by bridging peroxide, O22-. In accordance with reactivity, O2- addition is computed as substantially exothermic for U:U and least favorable for Pu:Pu. Collision-induced dissociation of native complexes eliminated ClO2 to yield [(AnO2)(O)2(AnO2)(ClO4)2]-, in which fragmented O atoms bridge as oxyl O-• and oxo O2- to yield uranyl(VI) and plutonyl(VI), or as oxos O2- to yield neptunyl(VII), [Oyl═NpVII═Oyl]3+.

Abstract
Uranyl compounds with tetrahedral oxoanions demonstrate a significant structural and topological diversity. Complexes of transuranium elements with such anions are not equally well-represented in the literature. To answer the question about the structural similarity in a series of An6+ complexes with XO42- anions, we synthesized and studied 10 new U, Np, and Pu chromates with outer-sphere organic cations. The structural analysis and comparison with the literature data shows that the Np and Pu complexes are generally based on the same structural blocks as the uranyl compounds. Moreover, the chromate anion does not show any unique structural role as compared to the sulfate and selenate ions. As a result, the neptunium and plutonium chromates contain 1D and 2D structural units similar to those found in the uranyl sulfates and selenates. The templating role of the outer-sphere cations in the actinyl complexes with tetrahedral oxoanions is also not evident, and there is no clear correlation between the nature of the outer-sphere cations and the topology of the structural units.

Abstract
A study of neptunium (Np) chemistry in the complex oxo-selenium system has been performed. Hereby, two sets of precipitation experiments were conducted, investigating the influence of the initial oxidation state of selenium using SeIVO2 and H2SeVIO4 with NpV in alkali nitrate solution, keeping the ratio of Np/Se constant. Surprising results were observed. Five novel neptunium and selenium bearing compounds have been obtained by slow evaporation from aqueous solution. The novel NpIV phase K4-x[Np(SeO3)4-x(HSeO3)x]·(H2O)1.5 (1) crystallizes in green-colored, plate-shaped crystals and was obtained by adding SeO2 and ANO3 to a NpV stock solution. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals one-dimensional chain structures composed of square antiprismatic NpO8 polyhedra linked via four trigonal pyramidal SeO3 and HSeO3 units. Raman spectral analysis supports the presence of both selenite and hydroselenite due to the presence of corresponding modes within the spectra. The addition of selenic acid to a NpV stock solution resulted in the precipitation of elongated rose prisms of K2[(NpO2)2(SeO4)3(H2O)2]·(H2O)1.5 (2), Rb2[(NpO2)2(SeO4)3(H2O)2]·(H2O)2 (3) and K9[(NpO2)9(SeO4)13.5(H2O)6]·(H2O)12 (4) as well as light red plates of Cs2[(NpO2)2(SeO4)3] (5). To our knowledge, this is the first report of NpVI selenates. All four structures show two-dimensional layered structures with alkali cations acting as charge balancing counter cations. Hereby the layers of compounds 2 and 3 are found to be orientational geometric isomers. Distinctly different phenomena are made responsible for the phase formation within these systems. The kinetically driven process of NpV disproportionation led to the formation of the NpIV selenites in the SeIV-based system, whereas the oxidation of NpV by reduction of nitrate in acidic conditions is responsible for the formation of the NpVI selenates in the SeVI system. The influence of air oxygen is also discussed for the latter reaction.

Abstract
An anionic Pd₁₅-oxo-cluster [Pd₁₅(μ₃-SeO₃)₁₀(μ₃-O)₁₀Na]⁹⁻ has been synthesized. It is the result of an unprecedented self-assembly of Pd(2+) and Na(+) cations, SeO₃²⁻ and oxo anions. It has been found for the first time, that selenito groups can give rise to supramolecular interactions in the solid state with palladium atoms, through the selenium electron lone pairs.

Abstract
Dark-red crystals of the new compound Li(4)[(UO(2))(10)O10(Mo(2)O(8))] (1) have been obtained by high-temperature solid-state reactions. The structure of 1 (monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a = 7.9426(4) A, b = 19.9895(9) A, c = 10.0796(5) A, beta = 90.575(2) degrees, V = 1600.24(13) A(3), Z = 4) consists of a framework of U and Mo polyhedra with Li+ cations in the channels. The framework contains seven-polyhedra-wide uranium oxide tapes interlinked by dimers of edge-sharing [4 + 1]-distorted MoO(5) polyhedra. The U-O tapes are parallel to the a axis, and their planes are oriented parallel to (021) and (02) so that they are cross-linked within the framework. The core of the tapes consists of unprecedented one-dimensional arrays of cation-cation-bonded uranyl ions. The arrays are constructed from eight-membered cycles with uranyl ions linked through two- and three-center cation-cation interactions.

The inner-sphere mechanisms of the disproportionation reactions of U(V), Np(V), and Pu(V) ions have been studied using a quantum mechanical approach. The U(V) disproportionation proceeds via the formation of a dimer (a cation-cation complex) followed by two successive protonations at the axial oxygens of the donor uranyl ion. Bond lengths and spin multiplicities indicate that electron transfer occurs after the first protonation. A solvent water molecule then breaks the complex into solvated U(OH)2(2+) and UO2(2+) ions. Pu(V) behaves similarly, but Np(V) appears not to follow this path. The observations from quantum modeling are consistent with existing experimental data on actinyl(V) disproportionation reactions.

Abstract
Three new palladium compounds, PdSeO3, PdSe2O5, and Na2Pd(SeO4)2, containing selenium oxoanions of both Se(IV) and Se(VI) have been prepared under mild hydrothermal conditions. PdSe2O5 and Na2Pd(SeO4)2 both possess one-dimensional structures. Within the structure of PdSe2O5, [PdO4] square planar building blocks are joined together through diselenite, Se2O52-, anions, and form a zigzag chain along the c axis. In Na2Pd(SeO4)2, [PdO4] units are connected by two selenate, SeO42-, anions, and extend along the a axis to form a [Pd(SeO4)2]2- chain. Na+ cations reside in the space between the [Pd(SeO4)2]2- chains and act as counter cations. Unlike above two compounds, PdSeO3 exhibits a layered structure. In the structure of PdSeO3, [PdO4] units are connected to each other by corner-sharing and form a zigzag chain along the b axis. The chains are further joined together by tridentate selenite, SeO32-, anions to form layers in the [ab] plane that stack along the c axis. Crystallographic data: (193 K; Mo Kalpha, lambda=0.71073 A): PdSeO3, monoclinic, space group P21/m, a=3.8884(5) A, b=6.4170(8) A, c=6.1051(7) A, beta=96.413(2) degrees, V=151.38(3) A3, Z=2; PdSe2O5, monoclinic, space group C2/c, a=12.198(2) A, b=5.5500(8) A, c=7.200(1) A, beta=107.900(2) degrees , V=463.8(1) A3, Z=4; Na2Pd(SeO4)2, triclinic, space group P, a=4.9349(11) A, b=5.9981(13) A, c=7.1512 (15) A, alpha=73.894(4) degrees, beta=86.124(4) degrees, gamma=70.834(4) degrees, V=192.03(7) A3, Z=1.
