Abstract
There has been broad attention to the recognition and detection of ions and organic small molecules due to their essential roles in environmental systems. However, dual-functional probes have seldom been developed for sensing organic constituents and lanthanide ions. A new 3D pillared Zn(ii)-organic framework [Zn3(L)(DCTP)3]n (1) (L = 1,4-di(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)butane and H2DCTP = 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid) was hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized, and features a unique 3D 4,4,4,6-connected framework containing approximately 9.99 × 9.78 Å2 cubic channels. 1 displays excellent thermal and pH stability and can act as a novel "turn-on" fluorescent probe for highly selectively sensitizing Tb3+ ions through an "antenna effect". Furthermore, 1 is a dual-response fluorescent sensor for monitoring acetylacetone and Tb3+ ions with rapid response times (within 1 min), low limits of detection (LOD) (5.02 × 10-6/1.15 × 10-8 M, separately) and great anti-interference ability and recyclability towards the analytes. The related sensing mechanisms for detecting analytes are also investigated in detail.

Abstract
Three novel inorganic-organic hybrid materials [Co(btp)2(W5O16)(H2O)] n (1), [Cd3(btp)6(PW12O40)2(H2O)6·6H2O] n (2), and [Ag3(btp)2(PMo12O40)·1.5H2O] n (3) (btp = 2,6-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)pyridine) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), elemental analysis and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The most striking structure feature of compound 1 is a 3D polycatenation framework, interpenetrated by a 2D 4-connected sql topology layer and a 3D 6-connected rob topology framework. Compound 2 exhibits a rare meso-helices 3D network with different chiralities crossing coexistence. Compound 3 also holds a 3D framework formed by linking terminal oxygen atoms of [α-PMo12O40]3- anions and silver ions in a 2D metal-organic layer. Compound 1 displays antiferromagnetic behavior. The luminescence, electrochemical and photocatalytic properties of compounds 1-3 have also been investigated. Compound 3 exhibits significant electrochemical activity for the reduction of H2O2 while compounds 1 and 2 show efficient photocatalytic activities for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB). Furthermore, the three compounds display luminescence behaviors in the solid state.

Abstract
With the employment of high-throughput methods, the system Bi3+/4,8-disulfonyl-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H4DSNDC)/H2O/additive (HNO3 or NaOH) was systematically investigated under hydrothermal reaction conditions. The influence of the molar ratio of the starting materials, pH, and reaction temperature and time was investigated in more than 500 reactions. The product formation is highly sensitive toward small changes of the synthesis parameters, but six new bismuth sulfonatocarboxylates were reproducibly obtained starting from clear solutions of the reactants. All compounds were structurally characterized from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Fully deprotonated linker ions are found in [Bi6O6(OH)2(H2O)4(DSNDC)] (1), [Bi2(OH)2(DSNDC)] (2), [Bi8O7(OH)2(H2O)2(DSNDC)2] (3), and [Bi7O5(OH)3(H2O)4(DSNDC)2]·4H2O (4), while the presence of larger amounts of acid or short reaction times leads to compounds with noncoordinating -COOH groups, [Bi2(OH)2(H2O)2(DSNDC)(H2DSNDC)] (5) and [Bi6O4(OH)4(H2O)12(H2DSNDC)3]· xH2O (6), respectively. The inorganic building units (IBUs) in all six structures differ substantially from each other; the IBUs found in 2 ({Bi2(OH)2}), 5 (BiO8 polyhedron), and 6 ({Bi6O4(OH)4} cluster) have been reported in the literature, while new IBUs are observed for 1 (chains of composition {Bi3O3(OH)}∞), 3 ({Bi16O14(OH)4} cluster), and 4 ({Bi7O5(OH)3} cluster). Systematic variation of the reaction temperature and time indicated their distinct influence on product formation. Hence, in situ powder X-ray diffraction measurements at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron, Hamburg, Germany, employing synchrotron radiation were carried out. In all studied in situ reactions, compound 6 is first observed and subsequently transformed to 1, 2, 4, and 5, depending on the reaction time and temperature as well as concentration of the starting materials.

Abstract
The reaction of 2-hydroxyl-4-carboxylbenzenesulfonic acid (H3L) and rare earth (RE) metal nitrates together with two N-heterocyclic ligands gives rise to the formation of 38 complexes, namely, [La(H2L)2(ox)0.5(H2O)4]n·2nH2O (1-La) (ox = oxalate), [RE2(H2L)2 (ox)(H2O)12]·2(H2L)·8H2O (2-RE) (RE = Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy), [RE(SO4)(H2O)7]·(H2L)·3H2O (3-RE) (RE = Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu and Y), [RE(L)(H2O)3]n·nH2O (4-RE) (RE = Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), [RE(L)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)]n (5-RE) (RE = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho and Y, 2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine), [RE(L)(1,10-phen)(H2O)]n (6-RE) (RE = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, 1,10-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), and [RE(L')(1,10-phen)2(H2O)]n (7-RE) (RE = Gd, Tb, Ho, Er, Yb and Lu, H3L' = 2-hydroxy-3-nitro-4-carboxybenzenesulfonic acid), which have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, PL, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1-La, 2-RE and 3-RE present zigzag chain, di- and mono-nuclear structures, in which H2L- acts as a counterion and monodentate and μ2-bridging monoanions. For the three species, light RE metal cations tend to induce the formation of oxalate while heavy RE metal cations tend to induce the formation of sulfate. Complexes 4-RE and 5-RE exhibit layer structures incorporating helical chains, in which the L3- trianion presents μ3 and μ4 coordination modes. Complexes 6-RE containing light RE metal cations show layer structures incorporating helical chains, while complexes 7-RE containing heavy RE metal cations have helical chain structures supported by the bridging of in situ generated L'3-. Remarkably, the in situ generated oxalates in 1-La and 2-RE, as well as the in situ generated L'3- in 7-RE, also play a crucial role in determining the structures of these complexes. Structure evolutions make these complexes present various luminescent emissions. Complexes 3-Tm, 3-Yb, 3-Lu, 3-Y and 4-Lu exhibit ultraviolet emissions from 354 to 370 nm. Complexes 1-La and 6-La present blue emissions at 442 and 463 nm. Complexes 2-Eu, 2-Tb, 5-Tb and 7-Tb exhibit characteristic red and green emissions while the complex 5-Y presents a green emission at 501 nm. Meanwhile, complexes 2-Nd, 3-Yb, 4-Yb, 5-Nd, 6-Nd, and 7-Yb show near-infrared (NIR) emissions. Moreover, 2-Eu, 2-Tb, 5-Tb, 7-Tb and 5-Y show longer luminescence lifetimes from 390.47 to 1211.57 μs.

Abstract
Water-dispersible upconversion nanoparticles (β-NaYF4:Yb(3+),Er(3+), UCNP) coated with a thin shell of a biocompatible copolymer comprising 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulphonsulphonic acid (AMPS), which we will term COP, have been prepared by multidentate grafting. This capping is remarkably resistant to strong acidic conditions as low as pH 2. The additional functionality of the smart UCNP@COP nanosystem has been proved by its association to a well-known photosensitizer (namely, methylene blue, MB). The green-to-red emission ratio of the UC@COP@MB nanohybrid exhibits excellent linear dependence in the 7 to 2 pH range as a consequence of the release of the dye as the pH decreases.

Abstract
Poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) doped with Tb-based imidazole derivative coordination polymer {[Tb(3)(L)(μ(3)-OH)(7)]·H(2)O}(n) (1) (L = N,N'-bis(acetoxy)biimidazole) was synthesized and its photophysical properties were studied. The L'(L' = N,N'-bis(ethylacetate)biimidazole) ligand was synthesized by an N-alkylation reaction process followed by ester hydrolysis to produce ligand L. Polymer 1 and ligand L' have been characterized by (1)H NMR and IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, PXRD and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Coordination polymer 1 is the first observation of a CdCl(2) structure constructed with hydroxy groups and decorated by ligand L in lanthanide N-heterocyclic coordination polymers. In the 2D layered structure of 1, each Tb3 metal center is connected with three Tb1 and three Tb2 metal centers by seven hydroxyl groups in different directions, resulting in a six-membered ring. After doping, not only the luminescence intensity and lifetime enhanced, but also their thermal stability was increased in comparison with 1. When 1 was doped into poly(methylmethacrylate) (1@PMMA), polymer film materials were formed with the PMMA polymer matrix (w/w = 2.5%-12.5%) acting as a co-sensitizer for Tb(3+) ions. The luminescence intensity of the Tb(3+) emission at 544 nm increases when the content of Tb(3+) was 10%. The lifetime of 1@PMMA (914.88 μs) is more than four times longer than that of 1 (196.24 μs). All τ values for the doped polymer systems are higher than coordination polymer 1, indicating that radiative processes are operative in all the doped polymer films. This is because PMMA coupling with the O-H oscillators from {[Tb(3)(L)(μ(3)-OH)(7)]·H(2)O}(n) can suppress multiphonon relaxation. According to the variable-temperature luminescence (VT-luminescence) investigation, 1@PMMA was confirmed to be a stable green luminescent polymer film material.
