Abstract
Five compounds, [Zn2(bpe)(BPTA)2(H2O)2] ⋅ 2H2O (1); [Zn(bpe)(BPTA)] (2); [Cd(bpe)(BPTA)H2O] (3); [Cd(BPTA) (bpmh)] ⋅ 2H2O (4); and Cu2(BPTA)2(bpmh)3(H2O)2] ⋅ 2H2O (5) were prepared employing 2,5-bis(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)terephthalic acid (2, 5 BPTA) as the primary ligand and 1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethane (4, 4' bpe) (1-3) and 1,2-bis(pyridin-3-ylmethylene)hydrazine (bpmh) (4-5) as the secondary ligands. Single crystal studies indicated that the compounds 1, 3 and 5 have two-dimensional layer structures and compounds 2 and 4 three-dimensional structures. The luminescence behaviour of the compounds 2 and 3 were explored for the sensing of metronidazole in aqueous medium. The studies indicated that the compounds can detect metronidazole in ppm level both in solution as well as simple paper strips. The Cu compound 5 was found to lose the coordinated water molecule at 100 °C without any structural change. The coordinatively unsaturated Cu-centre were examined towards the Lewis acidic character by carrying out the Ullmann type C-C homocoupling reaction of the aromatic halide compounds. The compounds, 4 and 5, also have the Lewis basic functionality arising out the =N-N=, aza groups. The bifunctional nature of the coordination polymers (CP) was explored towards the Chan-Lam coupling reaction between phenyl boronic acid and aniline derivatives in the ethanol medium. In both the catalytic reactions, good yields and recyclability were observed. The present studies illustrated the rich diversity that the transition metal containing compounds exhibit in extended framework structures.

Abstract
Two organic-inorganic hybrid zinc phosphites incorporating 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (TIMB) molecules were synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal methods and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXD). Interestingly, the solvent ratio of water to dimethylformamide induced the formation of a new compound of Zn2(TIMB)0.5(HPO3)2·3H2O (1) and our previously reported structure of Zn2(TIMB)0.5(HPO3)2·H2O (2). Additionally, their dehydrated crystals (1a and 2a) were prepared through heat treatment at 150 °C. SCXD and powder X-ray diffraction showed that all four compounds share the same framework formula of Zn2(TIMB)0.5(HPO3)2 but exhibit a huge difference in their inorganic components and final structures. In 1 and 1a, the inorganic units formed two-dimensional zincophosphite layers, while in 2 and 2a, they formed one-dimensional chains. The inorganic parts of 1 (1a) and 2 (2a) were bridged with TIMB linkers, resulting in 3D structures with rectangular and tubular windows, respectively. Furthermore, 1 was coated on the screen-printed carbon electron as a hybrid material, displaying excellent performance while having a linear relationship with an R2 value of 0.99 within the concentration range of 10-10 to 10-6 mol/L for detecting tryptamine (Try) molecules. Moreover, the results showed that 1 exhibits an ultralow limit of detection of 5.43 × 10-11 mol/L and high specificity toward Try over histamine, ascorbic acid, uric acid, and glucose. The synthesis, structural diversity, stability, and sensing ability are also discussed.

Abstract
New copper compounds, [Cu(C14H8O6)(C10H8N2)(H2O)] (1), [Cu(C14H8O6)(C10H8N2)(H2O)]·(C3H7ON)2 (2), [Cu(C14H8O6)(C10H8N2)(H2O)2]·(C3H7ON) (3), [Cu(C14H8O6)(C10H8N4)] (4), and [Cu(C14H8O6)(C10H8N4)]·(H2O) (5), were prepared employing 2,5-bis(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)terephthalic acid (2,5-BPTA) as the primary ligand and 4,4'-bipyridine (1-3) and 4,4'-azopyridine (4-5) as the secondary ligands. Single-crystal studies indicated that compounds 1-4 have two-dimensional layer structures and compound 5 has a three-dimensional structure. Compounds 1-3 were isolated from the same reaction mixture but by varying the time of reaction. The framework structures of compounds 1-3 are similar and may be considered as polymorphic structures. Compounds 4 and 5 can also be considered polymorphic with a change in dimensionality of the structure. Compounds 1-3 can be formed through a single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation under a suitable solvent mixture. The Cu center was explored for the Lewis acid-catalyzed cycloaddition reaction of epoxide and CO2 under ambient conditions in a solventless condition and also for the synthesis of propargylamine derivatives by three-component coupling reactions (A3 coupling) in a DCM medium. The Lewis basic functionality of the MOF (-N═N- group) has been explored for the Henry reaction (aldol condensation) in a solventless condition. In all of the catalytic reactions, good yields and recyclability were observed. The magnetic studies indicated that compounds 1 and 4 have antiferromagnetic interactions and compound 5 has ferromagnetic interactions. The present studies illustrated the rich diversity that the copper-containing compounds exhibit in extended framework structures.

Abstract
Seven new inorganic-organic coordination polymer compounds have been synthesized and their structures are determined by single-crystal structure determination. The compounds were prepared by the sequential assembly of a [Cu6(mna)6]6- moiety in the presence of a Mn salt and a secondary amine ligand. Of the seven compounds, [{Cu6(mna)6}Mn3(H2O)(H2O)1.5]·5.5H2O (I), [{Cu6(mna)6}Mn3(H2O)(Im)1.5]·3.5H2O (Ia), [{Cu6(mna)6}{Mn(BPY)(H2O)}2{Mn(H2O)4}]·2H2O (III), and [{Cu6(mna)6}{Mn(BPE)0.5(H2O)2}2{Mn(BPE)(H2O)2}] (IV) have a three-dimensional structure, whereas [{Cu6(mna)4.5(Hmna)1.5}{Mn(BPA)(H2O)2}{Mn(H2O)}]{Mn0.25(H2O)3}·7H2O (II), [{Cu6(mna)6}{Mn(4-BPDB)0.5H2O}{Mn(H2O)2}].{Mn(H2O)6}·6H2O (V), and [{Cu6(mna)4(Hmna)2}·{Mn(H2O)3}2]·(4-APY)2·6H2O (VI) have a two-dimensional structure. Some of the prepared compounds exhibit structures that closely resemble the classical inorganic structures, such as NaCl (Ia, III), NiAs (I), and CdI2 (IV and VI). The stabilization of such simple structures from the assembly of octahedral Cu6S6 clusters and different Mn species and aromatic nitrogen-containing ligands suggests the subtle interplay between the constituent reactants. The compounds were examined for the multicomponent Hantzsch reaction, which gave the product in good yields. The compounds, II and VI, on heating to 70 °C change color reversibly from pale yellow to deep red, which suggests the possible use of these compounds as thermochromic materials. The present study suggests that the Cu6S6 octahedral clusters can be assembled into structures that resemble classical inorganic structures.

WATER RESEARCH 2022; 218:118406. Abstract
Rapid urbanization, industrialization and population growth have accelerated the amount and variety of emerging contaminants being released into the aqueous environment, including endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs). The introduction of these compounds constitutes a threat to human health and the environment, even at trace levels. Hence, new water treatment technologies are urgently required to effectively remove EDCs from water. The currently available technologies used in water remediation processes are expensive and ineffective, and some produce harmful by-products. Calcium-based metal-organic frameworks (Ca-MOFs) are porous synthetic materials that can potentially be applied as adsorbents. These MOFs are hydrolytically stable, biocompatible and low-cost compared with conventional porous materials. The structure of Ca-MOFs is maintained even though calcium metal centers in the structure can easily coordinate with water. Ca-MOFs and their composite derivatives have the potential for use in water purification because these biocompatible adsorbents have been shown to selectively extract a significant quantity of contaminants. This review highlights the potential of Ca-MOFs to adsorb EDCs from aqueous environments and discusses adsorbent preparation methods, adsorption mechanisms, removal capacity, water stability and recyclability. This review will support future efforts in synthesizing new biocompatible MOFs as an environmental treatment technology that can effectively remove EDCs from water, thereby improving environmental and human health.

Abstract
Reaction of 2,2′-bipyridine (2,2′-bipy) or 1,10-phenantroline (phen) with [Mn(Piv)2(EtOH)]n led to the formation of binuclear complexes [Mn2(Piv)4L2] (L = 2,2′-bipy (1), phen (2); Piv− is the anion of pivalic acid). Oxidation of 1 or 2 by air oxygen resulted in the formation of tetranuclear MnII/III complexes [Mn4O2(Piv)6L2] (L = 2,2′-bipy (3), phen (4)). The hexanuclear complex [Mn6(OH)2(Piv)10(pym)4] (5) was formed in the reaction of [Mn(Piv)2(EtOH)]n with pyrimidine (pym), while oxidation of 5 produced the coordination polymer [Mn6O2(Piv)10(pym)2]n (6). Use of pyrazine (pz) instead of pyrimidine led to the 2D-coordination polymer [Mn4(OH)(Piv)7(µ2-pz)2]n (7). Interaction of [Mn(Piv)2(EtOH)]n with FeCl3 resulted in the formation of the hexanuclear complex [MnII4FeIII2O2(Piv)10(MeCN)2(HPiv)2] (8). The reactions of [MnFe2O(OAc)6(H2O)3] with 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bipy) or trans-1,2-(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bpe) led to the formation of 1D-polymers [MnFe2O(OAc)6L2]n·2nDMF, where L = 4,4′-bipy (9·2DMF), bpe (10·2DMF) and [MnFe2O(OAc)6(bpe)(DMF)]n·3.5nDMF (11·3.5DMF). All complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Desolvation of 11·3.5DMF led to a collapse of the porous crystal lattice that was confirmed by PXRD and N2 sorption measurements, while alcohol adsorption led to porous structure restoration. Weak antiferromagnetic exchange was found in the case of binuclear MnII complexes (JMn-Mn = −1.03 cm−1 for 1 and 2). According to magnetic data analysis (JMn-Mn = −(2.69 ÷ 0.42) cm−1) and DFT calculations (JMn-Mn = −(6.9 ÷ 0.9) cm−1) weak antiferromagnetic coupling between MnII ions also occurred in the tetranuclear {Mn4(OH)(Piv)7} unit of the 2D polymer 7. In contrast, strong antiferromagnetic coupling was found in oxo-bridged trinuclear fragment {MnFe2O(OAc)6} in 11·3.5DMF (JFe-Fe = −57.8 cm−1, JFe-Mn = −20.12 cm−1).

Abstract
We report the synthesis and structural diversity of Zn(II) metal-organic framework (MOF) with in situ formation of tetrazole ligand 3-ptz [3-ptz = 5-(3-pyridyl)tetrazolate] as a function pH. By varying the initial reaction pH, we obtain high-quality crystals of the noncentrosymmetric three-dimensional MOF Zn(3-ptz)2 , mixed phases involving the zinc-aqua complex [Zn(H2O)4(3-ptz)2]·4H2O, and two-dimensional MOF crystals Zn(OH)(3-ptz) with a tunable microrod morphology, keeping reaction time, temperature, and metal-ligand molar ratio constant. Structures are characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy. We discuss the observed structural diversity in terms of the relative abundance of hydroxo-zinc species in solution for different values of pH.

Abstract
In this study hydrothermal method was used to synthesize MIL-53(Al) (MIL stands for Materials Institute of Lavoisier). Plackett–Burman (P–B) as an experimental design method was applied to investigate the effect of synthesis and activation conditions on specific surface area, relative crystallinity, and production yield of MIL-53(Al) synthesis. Some parameters such as ligand-to-metal molar ratio, synthesis time, synthesis temperature, calcination temperature, and calcination time were selected as the variables. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) technique was used in order to estimate the specific surface area of samples while the relative crystallinity of the samples was estimated by comparing their X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) pattern. The morphology of the samples was investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The yield of final products was determined based on organic ligands. The results revealed the significant effect of synthesis temperature on BET surface area, particle size, yield, and crystallinity. The calcination temperature has significant positive effect on BET and crystallinity. Also, the negative significant effect of molar ratio on yield was concluded from the results. However, negligible effect of synthesis and calcination time on the properties of prepared materials were observed. Furthermore, separation capability of a selected sample for carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) was measured. Pure gas adsorption data were successfully fitted to Langmuir, Sips, and Toth models. The selected sample provided high adsorption capacity for both gases. The binary adsorption of gases was also investigated based on extended Langmuir equations and the ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) models. Comparing the experimental and models data indicated good agreement between the IAST model and experiments. Finally, high CO2/CH4 selectivity of 7.6 was obtained experimentally for the CO2/CH4 molar ratio of 0.2/0.8.

Abstract
In the last few decades, supramolecular chemistry has been at the forefront of chemical research, with the aim of understanding chemistry beyond the covalent bond. Since the long-range periodicity in crystals is a product of the directionally specific short-range intermolecular interactions that are responsible for molecular assembly, analysis of crystalline solids provides a primary means to investigate intermolecular interactions and recognition phenomena. This article discusses some areas of contemporary research involving supramolecular interactions in the solid state. The topics covered are: (1) an overview and historical review of halogen bonding; (2) exploring non-ambient conditions to investigate intermolecular interactions in crystals; (3) the role of intermolecular interactions in morphotropy, being the link between isostructurality and polymorphism; (4) strategic realisation of kinetic coordination polymers by exploiting multi-interactive linker molecules. The discussion touches upon many of the prerequisites for controlled preparation and characterization of crystalline materials.
