Abstract
The amphiphilic siderophore imaqobactin was isolated from the Arctic bacterium Variovorax sp. RKJM285, a strain isolated from marine sediment collected from an inlet near Clyde River, Nunavut, Canada. The 2D structure of imaqobactin was determined by a combination of LC-HRMS, MS/MS, and NMR spectroscopic methods. The absolute configuration of the depsipeptide core was determined by Marfey's analysis, and the relative configuration of the 4,7-diamino-3-hydroxy-2-methylheptanoic acid moiety was determined by NOESY and selective NOE experiments. The photoreductive properties of imaqobactin were tested and are discussed. Initial tests for antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity of imaqobactin were also performed, identifying moderate antimicrobial activity.

Abstract
The use of amidoxime-functionalized polymer fibers as a sorbent for uranium has attracted recent interest for the extraction of uranium from seawater. Vanadium is one of the main competing ions for uranium sorption as V(v) species, however, vanadium is also present as V(iv) in seawater. In the present study, the interactions of V(iv) with amidoxime and similar ligands were explored. Attempts were made to synthesize V(iv) complexes of glutaroimide-dioxime, a molecular analogue of polymer sorbents. However, V(iv) was found to react irreversibly with glutaroimide-dioxime and other oxime groups, oxidizing to the V(v) oxidation state. We have explored the reactions and propose mechanisms, as well as characterized the redox behavior of the vanadium-glutaroimide-dioxime complex.

Abstract
Interaction between iron(II) and acetohydroxamic acid (Aha), alpha-alaninehydroxamic acid (alpha-Alaha), beta-alaninehydroxamic acid (beta-Alaha), hexanedioic acid bis(3-hydroxycarbamoyl-methyl)amide (Dha) or desferrioxamine B (DFB) under anaerobic conditions was studied by pH-metric and UV-Visible spectrophotometric methods. The stability constants of complexes formed with Aha, alpha-Alaha, beta-Alaha and Dha were calculated and turned out to be much lower than those of the corresponding iron(II) complexes. Stability constants of the iron(II)-hydroxamate complexes are compared with those of other divalent 3d-block metal ions and the Irving-Williams series of stabilities was found to be observed. Above pH 4, in the reactions between iron(II) and desferrioxamine B, the oxidation of the metal ion to iron(III) by the ligand was found. The overall reaction that resulted in the formation of the tris-hydroxamato complex [Fe(HDFB)]+ and monoamide derivative of DFB at pH 6 is: 2Fe2+ + 3H4DFB+ = 2[Fe(HDFB)]+ + H3DFB-monoamide+ + H2O + 4H+. Based on these results, the conclusion is that desferrioxamine B can uptake iron in iron(III) form under anaerobic conditions.
