Abstract
Multidimensional, conjugated building blocks have been formed through the axial coordination of polyynes to the central Ga atom of tetraarylporphyrins. Electron deficient pentafluorophenyl substituents in the meso-positions provide more stable σ-acetylide complexes to Ga than analogous structures with tert-butylphenyl groups. Mono-, di-, and triynes have been used, including a pyridyl endcapped diyne that allows for formation of porphyrin triads through coordination of the pyridyl ligand to a Ru porphyrin.

Abstract
Abstract
A series of bis(phenylacetylido)(porphyrinato) E(IV) (E=Si, Ge, Sn) derivatives were obtained by reacting lithium phenylacetylide with the corresponding bis(chlorido)(porphyrinato) E(IV) precursors. Crystal structure determinations demonstrated that the trans-coordinated acetylide ligands deviate from their expected ideal geometry. Density functional theory calculations and comparison of the packing of the molecules among the homologous series of Si(IV), Ge(IV) and Sn(IV) revealed causes for the deviation from the simple valence shell electron pair repulsion model. Fluorescence and phosphorescence of these organometallic group 14 derivatives were studied and the results are compared to the literature-known properties of the related bis(chlorido)(porphyrinato) E(IV) compounds (E=Si, Ge, Sn). The first crystal structure of a porphyrinato Ge(IV) compound with σ-bonded acetylide ligands is reported.

Abstract
Time-dependent density functional theory calculations have been employed to characterize the inter-macrocycle interactions introduced when two tin(IV) porphyrins are axially covalently bonded via an ethynyl linker. The effect of changing the relative orientations of the two metalloporphyrin macrocycles is explored, with particular attention given to electronic states at energies up to the Soret-correlated states in the dimer. Expansion of the Gouterman four orbital approach for the monomer to an eight orbital approach in the dimer produces a satisfactory analysis. The results are used to examine the feasibility of using such linked structures in photon harvesting schemes.

Abstract
Recent advances in the chemistry of main group porphyrin complexes are surveyed. New, unprecedented structural types for porphyrin complexes which have been revealed from the recent reports of boron and tellurium porphyrins are described. Advances in the preparation and reactivity of Group 14 (silicon and tin) and Group 15 porphyrin complexes are discussed. A systematic variation in the out-of-plane distortion (ruffling) of light element Group 14 and 15 porphyrin complexes has become apparent now that a significant number of structurally characterized examples are at hand.

Abstract
Reactions of tin porphyrins with vicinal diols were investigated. Treatment of (TTP)Sn(CCPh)(2) or (TTP)Sn(NHtolyl)(2) with pinacol and 2,3-diphenylbutane-2,3-diol afforded diolato complexes (TTP)Sn[OC(Me)(2)C(Me)(2)O] (1) and (TTP)Sn[OC(Ph)(Me)C(Ph)(Me)O] (2), respectively. Both complexes underwent C-C cleavage reactions to give (TTP)Sn(II) and ketones. Reaction of (TTP)Sn(CCPh)(2) with 1 equivalent of o-catechol generated (TTP)Sn(CCPh)(OC(6)H(4)OH) (3), which subsequently transformed into (TTP)Sn(OC(6)H(4)O) (4). With excess catechol, disubstituted (TTP)Sn(OC(6)H(4)OH)(2) (5) was obtained. (TTP)Sn(CCPh)(OCHRCHROH) (R = H, 6; R = Ph, 8) and (TTP)Sn(OCHRCHROH)(2) (R = H, 7; R = Ph, 9) were obtained analogously by treatment of (TTP)Sn(CCPh)(2) with appropriate diols. In the presence of dioxygen, tin porphyrin complexes were found to promote the oxidative cleavage of vicinal diols and the oxidation of alpha-ketols to alpha-diketones. Possible reaction mechanisms involving diolato or enediolato intermediates are discussed. The molecular structure of (TTP)Sn(CCPh)(OC(6)H(4)OH) (3) was determined by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
Several iron(III) complexes incorporating diamidoether ligands are described. The reaction between [Li(2)[RN(SiMe(2))](2)O] and FeX(3) (X=Cl or Br; R=2,4,6-Me(3)Ph or 2,6-iPr(2)Ph) form unusual ate complexes, [FeX(2)Li[RN(SiMe(2))](2)O](2) (2, X=Cl, R=2,4,6-Me(3)Ph; 3, X=Br, R=2,4,6-Me(3)Ph; 4, X=Cl, R=2,6-iPr(2)Ph) which are stabilized by Li-pi interactions. These dimeric iron(III)-diamido complexes exhibit magnetic behaviour characteristic of uncoupled high spin (S= 5/2 ) iron(III) centres. They also undergo halide metathesis resulting in reduced iron(II) species. Thus, reaction of 2 with alkyllithium reagents leads to the formation of iron(II) dimer [Fe[Me(3)PhN(SiMe(2))](2)O](2) (6). Similarly, the previously reported iron(III)-diamido complex [FeCl[tBuN(SiMe(2))](2)O](2) (1) reacts with LiPPh(2) to yield the iron(II) dimer [Fe[tBuN(SiMe(2))](2)O](2) but reaction with LiNPh(2) gives the iron(II) product [Fe(2)(NPh(2))(2)[tBuN(SiMe(2))](2)O] (5). Some redox chemistry is also observed as side reactions in the syntheses of 2-4, yielding THF adducts of FeX(2): the one-dimensional chain [FeBr(2)(THF)(2)](n) (7) and the cluster [Fe(4)Cl(8)(THF)(6)]. The X-ray crystal structures of 3, 5 and 7 are described.
