Abstract
The L-cysteine-functionalized silica (SG-Cys-Na+) matrix was effectively loaded with silver (I) ions using the batch sorption technique. Optimal Ag(I) loading into SG-Cys-Na+ reached 98% at pHi = 6, 80 rpm, 1 mg L-1, and a temperature of 55 °C. The Langmuir isotherm was found to be suitable for Ag(I) binding onto SG-Cys-Na+ active sites, forming a homogeneous monolayer (R2 = 0.999), as confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. XRD analysis indicated matrix stability and the absence of Ag2O and Ag(0) phases, observed from diffraction peaks. The pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.999) suggested chemisorption-controlled adsorption, involving chemical bonding between silver ions and SG-Cys-Na+ surface. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated, indicating higher initial concentrations leading to increased equilibrium constants, negative ΔG values, positive ΔS values, and negative ΔH. This study aimed to explore silver ion saturation on silica surfaces and the underlying association mechanisms. The capability to capture and load silver (I) ions onto functionalized silica gel materials holds promise for environmental and water purification applications.

Abstract
The polyethyleneimine-modified polymers, polystyrene-divinylbenzene-based (TAs) and polymethacrylate-based polymers (TAm), were used as palladium scavengers to eliminate residual palladium species after palladium on carbon-catalyzed Sonogashira-type coupling reaction. Since both TAs and TAm indicated relatively favorable elimination abilities toward residual palladium species in the reaction mixture, the affinities of TAs and TAm for palladium species were used as supports for palladium catalysts. The TAm-supported palladium catalyst (Pd/TAm) indicated better catalyst properties for the chemoselective hydrogenation compared to those of the corresponding TAs-supported palladium catalyst (Pd/TAs). Aromatic benzyl ethers; aromatic and aliphatic N-Cbzs; and aromatic carbonyl groups were smoothly hydrogenated in the presence of 1-5 mol % of Pd/TAm in MeOH or 2-PrOH. In contrast, the hydrogenation of aromatic ketones was selectively suppressed in morpholine which act as appropriate catalyst poison and solvent. Furthermore, Pd/TAm-catalyzed chemoselective hydrogenation was applicable to continuous-flow reaction.

Abstract
Although a thiourea-immobilized polystyrene sorbent has been reported to exhibit high Ag+ sorption capacity (135mg/g), it is not stable under the acidic conditions commonly employed for desorption. In this research, we synthesized novel thiourea-immobilized polystyrene (TA-PS) nanoparticles to be highly acid resistant via a two-step procedure from polystyrene nanoparticles: acetylation and the subsequent immobilization of thiourea. We investigated the influences of pH, contact time, and initial concentration of AgNO3 solution on the Ag+ sorption of the polymer nanoparticles and estimated the maximum Ag+ sorption capacity to be 190±5mg/g at a pH of 6. The sorption performance did not significantly decrease in tap water containing competing ions. The sorption kinetic data were well fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Overall, the TA-PS nanoparticles exhibited a high Ag+ sorption capacity and high selectivity against alkaline and alkaline earth-metal ions. In particular, their high acid resistance allows them to be used for long time periods in sorption-desorption processes.

Abstract
In this paper, a new resin (PIDTR) containing acyl and thiourea chelating groups was synthesized and its adsorption performances and mechanism to Cu(II) were investigated by adsorption tests, BET, SEM, FTIR and XPS analyses. Equilibrium data were fitted well with Langmuir model with the maximum adsorption capacity of 1.1608 mmol g-1 for Cu(II) at pH 5.0. The regeneration and reusability test showed that the adsorption capacities decreased from 0.917 mmol g-1 to 0.88 mmol g-1 after five cycles of adsorption and desorption. The thermodynamics showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. The adsorption dynamic demonstrated that two stages in the adsorption process: liquid film diffusion and chemical adsorption. The studies of SEM indicated that Cu(II) ions were adsorbed on the surface of PIDTR. FTIR and XPS analysis further proved that Cu(II) ions were chemisorbed on the surface of PIDTR by formation of CuN, CuO and CuS bonds with the breakage of NH, C=O and S=C bonds in PIDTR.

Abstract
With the increased prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria infections, there is a pressed need for innovative antimicrobial agent. Here, we report a benign ε-polylysine/silver nanoparticle nanocomposite (EPL-g-butyl@AgNPs) with polyvalent and synergistic antibacterial effects. EPL-g-butyl@AgNPs exhibited good stability in aqueous solution and effective antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative (P. aeruginosa) and Gram-positive (S. aureus) bacteria without emergence of bacterial resistance. Importantly, the nanocomposites eradicated the antibiotic-resistant bacteria without toxicity to mammalian cells. Analysis of the antibacterial mechanism confirmed that the nanocomposites adhered to the bacterial surface, irreversibly disrupted the membrane structure of the bacteria, subsequently penetrated cells, and effectively inhibited protein activity, which ultimately led to bacteria apoptosis. Notably, the nanocomposites modulated the relative level of CD3+ T cells and CD68+ macrophages and effectively promoted infected wound healing in diabetic rats. This work improves our understanding of the antibacterial mechanism of AgNPs-based nanocomposites and offers guidance to activity prediction and rational design of effective antimicrobial nanoparticles.
