Abstract
We show that countercations exert a remarkable influence on the ability of anionic cobaltate salts to catalyze challenging alkene hydrogenations. An evaluation of the catalytic properties of [Cat][Co(η4 -cod)2 ] (Cat=K (1), Na (2), Li (3), (Dep nacnac)Mg (4), and N(n Bu)4 (5); cod=1,5-cyclooctadiene, Dep nacnac={2,6-Et2 C6 H3 NC(CH3 )}2 CH)]) demonstrated that the lithium salt 3 and magnesium salt 4 drastically outperform the other catalysts. Complex 4 was the most active catalyst, which readily promotes the hydrogenation of highly congested alkenes under mild conditions. A plausible catalytic mechanism is proposed based on density functional theory (DFT) investigations. Furthermore, combined molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and DFT studies were used to examine the turnover-limiting migratory insertion step. The results of these studies suggest an active co-catalytic role of the counterion in the hydrogenation reaction through the coordination to cobalt hydride intermediates.

Abstract
Dehydrogenation of ammonia borane to well-defined products is an important but challenging reaction. A dinuclear ruthenium complex with a Ru-Ru bond bearing a diazadiene (dad) unit and olefins as non-innocent ligands catalyzes the highly selective formation of conjugated polycondensed borazine oligomers (BxNxHy), predominantly B21N21H18, the BN analogue of superbenzene.

Abstract
The sigma amine-borane complexes [Rh(L1)(η2 :η2 -H3 B⋅NRH2 )][OTf] (L1=2,6-bis-[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)ethyl]pyridine, R=Me, Et, n Pr) are described, alongside [Rh(L1)(NMeH2 )][OTf]. Using R=Me as a pre-catalyst (1 mol %) the dehydropolymerization of H3 B ⋅ NMeH2 gives [H2 BNMeH]n selectively. Added NMeH2 , or the direct use of [Rh(L1)(NMeH2 )][OTf], is required for initiation of catalysis, which is suggested to operate through the formation of a neutral hydride complex, Rh(L1)H. The formation of small (1-5 nm) nanoparticles is observed at the end of catalysis, but studies are ambiguous as to whether the catalysis is solely nanoparticle promoted or if there is a molecular homogeneous component. [Rh(L1)(NMeH2 )][OTf] is shown to operate at 0.025 mol % loadings on a 2 g scale of H3 B ⋅ NMeH2 to give polyaminoborane [H2 BNMeH]n [Mn =30,900 g/mol, Ð=1.8] that can be purified to a low residual [Rh] (6 μg/g). Addition of Na[N(SiMe3 )2 ] to [H2 BNMeH]n results in selective depolymerization to form the eee-isomer of N,N,N-trimethylcyclotriborazane [H2 BNMeH]3 : the chemical repurposing of a main-group polymer.

Abstract
The primary phosphines MesPH2 and tBuPH2 react with 9-iodo-m-carborane yielding B9-connected secondary carboranylphosphines 1,7-H2 C2 B10 H9 -9-PHR (R=2,4,6-Me3 C6 H2 (Mes; 1 a), tBu (1 b)). Addition of tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (BCF) to 1 a, b resulted in the zwitterionic compounds 1,7-H2 C2 B10 H9 -9-PHR(p-C6 F4 )BF(C6 F5 )2 (2 a, b) through nucleophilic para substitution of a C6 F5 ring followed by fluoride transfer to boron. Further reaction with Me2 SiHCl prompted a H-F exchange yielding the zwitterionic compounds 1,7-H2 C2 B10 H9 -9-PHR(p-C6 F4 )BH(C6 F5 )2 (3 a, b). The reaction of 2 a, b with one equivalent of R'MgBr (R'=Me, Ph) gave the extremely water-sensitive frustrated Lewis pairs 1,7-H2 C2 B10 H9 -9-PR(p-C6 F4 )B(C6 F5 )2 (4 a, b). Hydrolysis of the B-C6 F4 bond in 4 a, b gave the first tertiary B-carboranyl phosphines with three distinct substituents, 1,7-H2 C2 B10 H9 -9-PR(p-C6 F4 H) (5 a, b). Deprotonation of the zwitterionic compounds 2 a, b and 3 a, b formed anionic phosphines [1,7-H2 C2 B10 H9 -9-PR(p-C6 F4 )BX(C6 F5 )2 ]- [DMSOH]+ (R=Mes, X=F (6 a), R=tBu, X=F (6 b); R=Mes, X=H (7 a), R=tBu, X=H (7 b)). Reaction of 2 a, b with an excess of Grignard reagents resulted in the addition of R' at the boron atom yielding the anions [1,7-H2 C2 B10 H9 -9-PR(p-C6 F4 )BR'(C6 F5 )2 ]- (R=Mes, R'=Me (8 a), R=tBu, R'=Me (8 b); R=Mes, R'=Ph (9 a), R=tBu, R'=Ph (9 b)) with [MgBr(Et2 O)n ]+ as counterion. The ability of the zwitterionic compounds 3 a, b to hydrogenate imines as well as the Brønsted acidity of 3 a were investigated.

Abstract
Under mild conditions (room temperature, 80 psi of H2) Cp*Rh(2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl)H catalyzes the selective hydrogenation of the C═C bond in α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, including natural product precursors with bulky substituents in the β position and substrates possessing an array of additional functional groups. It also catalyzes the hydrogenation of many isolated double bonds. Mechanistic studies reveal that no radical intermediates are involved, and the catalyst appears to be homogeneous, thereby affording important complementarity to existing protocols for similar hydrogenation processes.

Abstract
AbstractMesoporous SBA-15 silicate with a high surface area was prepared by a hydrothermal method, successively modified by organic melamine ligands and then used for deposition of Pd nanoparticles onto it. The synthesized materials were characterized with infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), nitrogen physisorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-OES). The catalyst was effectively used in the Mizoroki–Heck coupling reaction of various reactants in the presence of an organic base giving the desired products in a short reaction time and with small catalysts loadings. The reaction parameters such as the base type, amounts of catalyst, solvents, and the temperature were optimized. The catalyst was easily recovered and reused at least seven times without significant activity losses.

Abstract
In the study, activated carbon (AC) supported palladium/cobalt (Pd/Co) nanocatalyst was synthesized to achieve hydrogen release from dimethylamine boron (DMAB). Nanocatalyst were produced by the reduction of Pd2+ and Co2+ cations by the ultrasonic double reduction method. Analytical studies of the synthesized nanomaterials were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. In this research, nanomaterials exhibited high catalytic activity and reusability, and great performance at low temperatures and concentrations. For the dehydrogenation reaction of dimethylamine borane, TOF and Ea were calculated as 379.5 h-1 and 75.86 kJ mol-1, respectively. The PdCo@AC nanocatalyst can be used as a promising catalyst for the hydrogen production reaction from DMAB.

Abstract
In this paper, we present platinum/ruthenium nanoparticles supported on Vulcan carbon (PtRu@VC) as a nanocatalyst for the dehydrogenation of dimethylamine-borane (DMAB) in aqueous solution under mild conditions. PtRu@VC nanocatalyst was fabricated using the alcohol-reduction techniques which is a facile and effective method. The prepared PtRu@VC nanocatalyst exhibited a good stabilization and an effective catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution from the DMAB dehydrogenation in water at room temperature. The composition of PtRu@VC nanocatalyst was investigated using different analytical techniques inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), powder X-ray diffraction (P-XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A monodispersedPt/Ru metals distributions on VC (as supporting material) were revealed by TEM and HR-TEM analyses. The mean particle size of PtRu@VC nanocatalyst was found to be 3.15 ± 0.76 nm. XPS analysis for PtRu@VC nanocatalyst showed that almost Pt-Ru metals were found to be the metallic state. Catalytic experimental results showed that PtRu@VC nanocatalyst has a high catalytic activity with an excellent turn-over frequency (TOFinitial) value of 14926.2 h−1 (248.77 min−1) in the dehydrogenation of DMAB in water at room temperature. Additionally, in the paper, we report some different kinetic data obtained from different experimental parameters of temperature, catalyst and substrate concentrations conducted for DMAB dehydrogenation in water catalyzed with PtRu@VC nanocatalyst.

Abstract
Abstract
Magnetic particles were prepared by a hydrothermal method and then successively covered by Metal–Organic-Frameworks MIL-101-NH2 with a high surface area. This was followed by deposition of Pd(OAc)2 on Fe3O4–NH2@MIL-101-NH2 particles. The final catalyst was characterized with FT-IR, nitrogen physisorption, thermogravimetry (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), wide-angle X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The prepared magnetic catalyst was effectively used in the Heck coupling reaction in the presence of an inorganic base. The reaction parameters such as the base type, amounts of catalyst and solvents, temperature, and substrates ratios were optimized. The catalyst was then magnetically separated, washed, and reused 7 times without losing significantly catalytic activity.

Abstract
Several metal nanoparticle based catalysts have been synthesized for
catalyzing the hydrogen production process by hydrolysis of methylamine-borane
(MeAB). However, there was only one study that catalyzes the producing of hydrogenvia the methanolysis of MeAB, and it was
carried out by our research group. For this reason, in this work, a new catalyst
system entitled by single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) supported bimetallic
platinum-ruthenium nanoparticles were developed and called as PtRu@SWCNT. These NPs
were characterized by several techniques (XRD, XPS, Raman, and TEM), and they were
performed for the methanolysis of MeAB with high catalytic activity. The prepared
PtRu@SWCNT NPs were also tested in the methanolysis of MeAB at different parameters
including different temperatures, catalyst and substrate concentrations, and
reusability performance. Experimental results revealed that the new PtRu@SWCNT NPs
had excellent catalytic activity and reusability for removing of hydrogen from the
methanolysis of MeAB at ambient conditions. According to the obtained data, the
turnover frequency is 136.25 mole H2/mole PtRu × min, and the
activation energy (Ea) is 17.29 kJ/mole. More than 99% of conversion was observed at
room temperature.

Abstract
The σ-amine-borane pincer complex [Rh(PONOP)(η1-H3B·NMe3)][BArF4] [2, PONOP = κ3-NC5H3-2,6-(OPtBu2)2] is prepared by addition of H3B·NMe3 to the dihydrogen precursor [Rh(PONOP)(η2-H2)][BArF4], 1. In a similar way the related H3B·NMe2H complex [Rh(PONOP)(η1-H3B·NMe2H)][BArF4], 3, can be made in situ, but this undergoes dehydrocoupling to reform 1 and give the aminoborane dimer [H2BNMe2]2. NMR studies on this system reveal an intermediate neutral hydride forms, Rh(PONOP)H, 4, that has been prepared independently. 1 is a competent catalyst (2 mol%, ∼30 min) for the dehydrocoupling of H3B·Me2H. Kinetic, mechanistic and computational studies point to the role of NMe2H in both forming the neutral hydride, via deprotonation of a σ-amine-borane complex and formation of aminoborane, and closing the catalytic cycle by reprotonation of the hydride by the thus-formed dimethyl ammonium [NMe2H2]+. Competitive processes involving the generation of boronium [H2B(NMe2H)2]+ are also discussed, but shown to be higher in energy. Off-cycle adducts between [NMe2H2]+ or [H2B(NMe2H)2]+ and amine-boranes are also discussed that act to modify the kinetics of dehydrocoupling.

Abstract
A series of new carbazole-based N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands have been synthesized in a simple and facile synthetic route and subsequently used in a Pd/carbazole-based NHC catalytic system, which was found to be effective in catalyzing Heck reactions to provide substituted stilbene derivatives in good yields. Several bioactive stilbenes, including pterostilbene, pinosylvin, trimethoxy resveratrol, and resveratrol, were synthesized in good yields, and a 10 mmol scale-up was also performed for trimethoxy resveratrol. The synthetic application was also extended by performing a double-tandem chemoselective Heck reaction followed by Miyaura borylation in a one-pot procedure to give single-step access to synthetically useful stilbenyl boronate esters. Similarly, a unique triple-tandem protocol of a chemoselective Heck reaction/Miyaura borylation/Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction sequence was performed for the one-pot modification of biologically relevant molecules.

Abstract
This study reports on one of the best heterogeneous catalysts for the dehydrogenation of dimethylamine-borane (DMAB). This new catalytic system consists of highly monodisperse Pd and Ru alloy nanoparticles supported by poly(N-vinyl-pyrrolidone) (PdRu@PVP). The prepared heterogeneous catalyst can be reproducibly formed using an ultrasonic reduction technique for DMAB dehydrogenation under mild conditions. For the characterization of PdRu@PVP nanomaterials, several spectroscopic and microscopic techniques were used. The prepared PdRu@PVP nanomaterials with an average particle size of 3.82 ± 1.10 nm provided an 808.03 h-1 turnover frequency (TOF) in the dehydrogenation of DMAB and yielded 100% of the cyclic product (Me2NBH2)2 under mild conditions. Furthermore, the activities of catalysts were investigated theoretically using DFT-B3LYP calculations. The theoretical results based on density functional theory were in favorable agreement with the experimental data.

Abstract
A new boron-boron dehydrocoupling strategy was established, providing convenient access to some diborane(4) compounds starting from simple borane adducts under mild conditions. In contrast to the traditional pathway using a reducing reagent, the reduction from BIII to BII was paradoxically initiated by the addition of the oxidation-reagent iodine. A reaction pathway for this unusual reaction was proposed based on quantum-chemical calculations.

[Rh(κ2-PP-DPEphos){η2η2-H2B(NMe3)(CH2)2tBu}][BArF4]
acts as an effective precatalyst
for the dehydropolymerization of H3B·NMeH2 to form N-methylpolyaminoborane (H2BNMeH)n. Control of polymer molecular weight is
achieved by variation of precatalyst loading (0.1–1 mol %,
an inverse relationship) and use of the chain-modifying agent H2: with Mn ranging between 5 500
and 34 900 g/mol and Đ between 1.5 and
1.8. H2 evolution studies (1,2-F2C6H4 solvent) reveal an induction period that gets longer
with higher precatalyst loading and complex kinetics with a noninteger
order in [Rh]TOTAL. Speciation studies at 10 mol % indicate
the initial formation of the amino–borane bridged dimer, [Rh2(κ2-PP-DPEphos)2(μ-H)(μ-H2BN=HMe)][BArF4], followed by the crystallographically
characterized amidodiboryl complex [Rh2(cis-κ2-PP-DPEphos)2(σ,μ-(H2B)2NHMe)][BArF4]. Adding
∼2 equiv of NMeH2 in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution
to the precatalyst removes this induction period, pseudo-first-order
kinetics are observed, a half-order relationship to [Rh]TOTAL is revealed with regard to dehydrogenation, and polymer molecular
weights are increased (e.g., Mn = 40 000
g/mol). Speciation studies suggest that NMeH2 acts to form
the precatalysts [Rh(κ2-DPEphos)(NMeH2)2][BArF4] and [Rh(κ2-DPEphos)(H)2(NMeH2)2][BArF4], which were independently synthesized and shown to
follow very similar dehydrogenation kinetics, and produce polymers
of molecular weight comparable with [Rh(κ2-PP-DPEphos){η2-H2B(NMe3)(CH2)2tBu}][BArF4], which has been doped
with amine. This promoting effect of added amine in situ is shown
to be general in other cationic Rh-based systems, and possible mechanistic
scenarios are discussed.

Abstract
We report the preparation and full characterization of a series of hydroxyl functionalized 1,2,3-triazolylidene-based PEPPSI complexes 2a-c and their catalytic application in the Suzuki cross coupling reaction of aryl chlorides/amides with boronic acids. Under basic reaction conditions, complexes 2a-c show a notable increase in their catalytic efficiency compared with two ether-wingtip functionalized PEPPSI analogues (3 and 4) and a commercially available NHC-Pd complex (5). The catalytic results suggest that deprotonation of the hydroxyl group in complexes 2a-c plays an important role in the overall process. Deprotonation of the alcohol moiety of complexes 2a-b with sodium tert-butoxide allows for the isolation of metallacycles 6a-b, which are proposed as the active species of cross coupling reactions.

Characterization of B-H agostic compounds involved in the dehydrogenation of amine-boranes by group 4 metallocenes. J Mol Model 2016; 22:294. Abstract
For over a decade, amine-borane has been considered as a potential chemical hydrogen vector in the context of a search for cleaner energy sources. When catalyzed by organometallic complexes, the reaction mechanisms currently considered involve the formation of β-BH agostic intermediates. A thorough understanding of these intermediates may constitute a crucial step toward the identification of ideal catalysts. Topological approaches such as QTAIM and ELF revealed to be particularly suitable for the description of β-agostic interactions. When studying model catalysts, accurate theoretical calculations may be carried out. However, for a comparison with experimental data, calculations should also be carried out on large organo-metallic species, often including transition metals belonging to the second or the third row. In such a case, DFT methods are particularly attractive. Unfortunately, triple-ζ all electrons basis sets are not easily available for heavy transition metal elements. Thus, a subtle balance should be reached between the affordable level of calculations and the required accuracy of the electronic description of the systems. Herein we propose the use of B3LYP functional in combination with the LanL2DZ pseudopotential for the metal atom and 6-311++G(2d,2p) basis set for the other atoms, followed by a single point using the DKH2 relativistic Hamiltonian in combination with the B3LYP/DZP-DKH level, as a "minimum level of theory" leading to a consistent topological description of the interaction within the ELF and QTAIM framework, in the context of isolated (gas-phase) group 4 metallocene catalysts.

Abstract
Detailed experimental and computational studies are reported on the fundamental B–H and P–H bond activation steps involved in the dehydrocoupling/dehydropolymerization of primary and secondary phosphine–boranes, H3B·PPhR′H (R = Ph, H), using the [RhCp*(PMe3)Me(ClCH2Cl)][BArF4] catalyst.
We report a detailed, combined experimental and computational study on the fundamental B–H and P–H bond activation steps involved in the dehydrocoupling/dehydropolymerization of primary and secondary phosphine–boranes, H3B·PPhR′H (R = Ph, H), using [RhCp*(PMe3)Me(ClCH2Cl)][BArF4], to either form polyphosphino-boranes [H2B·PPhH]n (Mn ∼ 15 000 g mol–1, PDI = 2.2) or the linear diboraphosphine H3B·PPh2BH2·PPh2H. A likely polymer-growth pathway of reversible chain transfer step-growth is suggested for H3B·PPhH2. Using secondary phosphine–boranes as model substrates a combined synthesis, structural (X-ray crystallography), labelling and computational approach reveals: initial bond activation pathways (B–H activation precedes P–H activation); key intermediates (phosphido-boranes, α-B-agostic base-stabilized boryls); and a catalytic route to the primary diboraphosphine (H3B·PPhHBH2·PPhH2). It is also shown that by changing the substituent at phosphorus (Ph or Cy versustBu) different final products result (phosphido-borane or base stabilized phosphino-borane respectively). These studies provide detailed insight into the pathways that are operating during dehydropolymerization.
