Abstract
An unprecedented Pt-catalysed cyclisation of N-tethered 1,5-bisallenes in the presence of oxygen nucleophiles is reported, where formation of 6- or 7-membered rings is driven by the choice of nucleophile and the mechanism dictated by the nucleophile and the electronic properties of the bisallene. The reaction in the presence of alcohols gives preferentially vinyltetrahydropyridines with an extra alkoxy group and Pt-H as the active species in the catalytic cycle, while formation of di- and tetrahydroazepines with an extra hydroxyl group is favoured when water is used as nucleophile, via nucleophilic attack/carbocyclization as the favoured pathway. The products obtained are frequently found in the core of natural products with important biological activities, so understanding this complex mechanistic behaviour and exploiting this new methodology will have a big impact in organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry.

A practical aminocyclization of 1,6-enynes
with a wide variety
of substituted anilines, including N-alkyl anilines,
has been achived by using cationic [JohnPhosAu(MeCN)]SbF6 as a general purpose catalyst. The resulting adducts can be easily

Abstract
A mechanistic DFT study of the gold(I)-catalyzed alkenylsilylation reaction of a silyl-tethered 1,6-enyne system is reported. A novel pathway involving bistriflimide counterion-assisted rearrangements of carbocation and silyl cation intermediates corroborates the experimental observations. The results suggest the important role of the counterion in modulating the reactivity of cationic intermediates in gold catalysis.

Abstract
We report herein experimental and theoretical evidence for an aromatic Cope rearrangement. Along with several successful examples, our data include the first isolation and full characterization of the putative intermediate that is formed immediately after the initial [3,3] sigmatropic rearrangement. Calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory predict reaction energy barriers in the range 22-23 kcal/mol for the [3,3]-rearrangement consistent with the exceptionally mild reaction conditions for these reactions. The experimental and computational results support a significant enthalpic contribution of the concomitant pyrazole ring formation that serves as both a kinetic and thermodynamic driving force for the aromatic Cope rearrangement.

Abstract
1,6-Enynes with electron-donating substituents at the alkyne undergo gold(I)-catalysed single cleavage skeletal rearrangement, whereas substrates with electron-withdrawing substituents evolve selectively to double cleavage rearrangement. Theoretical calculations provide a qualitative rationale for these effects, and suggest that bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-5-enes are involved as intermediates. We provide the first X-ray structural evidence for the formation of a product of this class in a cycloisomerisation of a 1,6-enyne.

Abstract
A tandem gold-catalyzed cycloisomerization/Suzuki cross coupling sequence involving arylethynyl-N-methyliminodiacetic acid boronates is described. Combining the mildness of homogeneous gold catalysis with the versatility of N-methyliminodiacetic acid (MIDA) boronates, this tandem two-step method enables the rapid assembly of various aryl-substituted heterocycles without having to isolate or purify any heterocyclic MIDA boronate intermediates. Another major advantage of this method is that a wide range of heterocycles bearing different aryl groups may be made from a single MIDA boronate alkyne precursor.

Abstract
During continuing studies with a novel oxidative gold oxyarylation reaction, arylsilanes were found to be competent coupling partners, providing further evidence for an intramolecular electrophilic aromatic substitution mechanism. While providing yields complementary to those of the previously described boronic acid methods, the use of trimethylsilanes reduces the observation of homocoupling byproducts and allows for facile intramolecular coupling reactions.

Abstract
A complex of commercial [Ir(OMe)(cod)](2) and 4,4-di-tert-butyl-2,2-bipyridine (dtbpy) catalyzes the Z-selective, dehydrative silylation of terminal alkenes, but not 1,2-disubstituted alkenes, with triethylsilane or benzyldimethylsilane in THF at 40 degrees C. Yields and Z-stereoselectivity were significantly improved by 2-norbornene, in contrast with other sacrificial alkenes. The reaction is compatible with many functional groups including epoxides, ketones, amides, alcohols, esters, halides, ketals, and silanes. alpha,beta-Unsaturated esters were unreactive. The reaction probably proceeds through a Heck-type mechanism.

Abstract
An enantioselective gold(I)-catalyzed intramolecular [4 + 2]-cycloaddition of allenes and dienes is reported. The reactions allow for the asymmetric synthesis of trans-hexahydroindenes and pyrrolidine products using C(3)-symmetric phosphitegold(I) and ortho-arylphosphoramiditegold(I) complexes as catalysts, respectively.

Abstract
Gold and rings: The gold(I)-catalyzed addition of aldehydes to 1,6-enynes gives 1,3-dienes, by a cycloaddition/fragmentation process. 1,5-Enynes react with aldehydes and ketones by the 5-endo-dig pathway to give the corresponding cycloadducts.

Abstract
This tutorial review covers recent developments in catalytic carbocyclisation of functionalised alkynes with external nucleophiles catalysed by gold, platinum and other electrophilic metals. Substrates of such reactions require a tethered functionality to react with the alkyne to complete a carbocyclic ring. We classify the reactions according to the tethered functionalities to illustrate the diversity of the carbocyclisations; these substrates include: (1) alkyne-alkyne, (2) alkyne-allene, (3) alkyne-alkene, (4) oxo-alkynes and (5) oxo-diynes and triynes. Besides their mechanistic interest, these reactions meet atom economy criteria because complex and functionalised carbocyclic products are easily assembled in a cascade sequence from readily available alkynes and nucleophiles.
